Garbage collection, restaurants and bars, and alleyways accentuate people talking, screaming, laughing and accordian playing, all until 6:00 am every morning for the two nights I stayed there. No air conditioning required open windows which made it even worse.

The room was ok a bit small but clean. The check in process was good. There was a problem with loss of water after second day there. They offered to move us to another hotel affiliated with them, which was nearby but, only For one night and we had two more nights to go. But the water was fixed later the next day.

Excellent value for money, clean, good location and friendly staff. Hairdryer in the room, free safe with hand soap and shower gel. On check out you can leave your bags in the main hotel that’s part of the hostel. Excellent Irish bar opposite and some good restaurants close by. I would definitely stay here again. The rooms are on the small side but was perfect for a city break. To improve a kettle and coffee/tea would be nice and extra pillows.

The hotel was a nightmare as no information was provided in advance. Guides and directions should have been emailed when booking was confirmed. No car access and parking is a far walk. Then trying to communicate and ask for help with staff was difficult. Tried calling and then said he’d send info over via text instead of telling us on the phone so we drove two 25 min laps around Barcelona bc I it’s so difficult to get to where you need to go.
Room was so small, sheets and towels weren’t changed and we didn’t even get extra toilet paper.

It was not what we saw online. We did not get any sleep because the neighborhood was filled with people partying past 5am and the room was not soundproof. When we got to our hostel door there was a very large mound of smelly trash that looked like a fire hazard. Accommodations were sub-par.

Recommended location in heart of Madrid

Location, location, location. Frequent travellers, looking for comfort, cleanliness and the all important location. El Pasaje delivered on all. If you are in the city to see and experience the city then this if for you. Firm, comfortable bed, aircon, mini-fridge, safe, wifi, great shower. Everything you need. Within moments from the Hostal you have vibrant bars and restaurants but from our 'city' room, at the back of the property, we had undisturbed sleep. Within comfortable walking distance of all the major sights. Easy check in at Victoria 4, over the road. Staff friendly and helpful (very good English speaking, apologies for our lack of Spanish). Most helpful when we had a pre-booked taxi issue, nothing to do with the hotel, but the gentleman on reception (sorry, didn't get his name) was great at speaking to the driver etc for us. Gracias. If you want a swanky room with a great view, then look elsewhere, but if you want great value for money, clean, comfortable, in the heart of Madrid, then we would recommend this hostal.

Perfect for travelers not looking to spend a ton but still want privacy. Room is small but it's all you need. Hotel staff are friendly and helpful, just across the street. Hostel was quiet and clean, basic amenities but what you would expect at a hostel. Close to so many things, we walked everywhere. Plenty of bars within a block. I would stay again.

Very good reasonable priced hotel on a pedestrian street in the center of Madrid.

Small hotel run in conjunction with a second small hotel. Where I stayed was only rooms but the check in hotel was a very short distance away and also was the place in the morning for breakfast. My room was clean, the bed comfortable and the air conditioning did work. Also a nice little elevator. When I checked in, the people offered someone to help take my bag over to the hotel sleeping rooms and hence to my room, and since I am older, this was very appreciated. The breakfast itself was ample with a lot of choice in a buffet format. The coffee was especially good. The street this is located on is a very small pedestrian street but with several quite neat bars and restaurants where you can eat outdoors at night and sip an inexpensive wine. Several of the buildings have very beautiful exterior tile work that illustrates some of the people of the area and themes. The location is quite good for going to other places but is very much its tiny private area. This is by far one of the nicest places I have stayed in in the center of Madrid that is not too expensive.

All in all the service was good and it was a fair price for our stay. I traveled with my husband and we stayed at the place 3 nights and had much fun. However, the room was rather small and stuffy. There was a window you could open, but we kept it closed because of the noise from the street. Since it is a very centeral location, you can't really open the window for more than a few minutes. The ladies at the desk were nice and helpful,but the room wasn't so clean when we entered : The garbage in toilets wasnt emptied ans was full with someone else's trash, and there were used eye contacts near the sink. When we called the reception about it she came to clean it right away.

I sent a message to the Hostel; they didn't bother to reply with the consequence I had to move rooms after one night. There was no Manager on site. The amount charged for the second night was five times that for the first night (and that was expensive for a hostel) - absolutely no justification. Breakfast - poor - was at a local restaurant; - no facilities on site.

This hotel is horrible! No one was there when we arrived but the door was wide open. We waited for several minutes before being able to reach the front desk staff— who took 15 MINUTES— to arrive. They were totally unapologetic and proceeded to slowly type in our passport details manually. The process took close to 15 more minutes just for one passport. We finally went upstairs and said we would pick up our passports later. The rooms were in bad shape. Ours had twin beds instead of a double and the front desk didn’t make any offer to fix it when we complained. Our friends’ room wouldn’t open and they had to go back downstairs and get help from the front desk. The shower door in our room was also broken and barely closed. The last straw was that we made a local call— after being assured that it would be free— and the front desk then tried to collect .15 euro from us. We refused and they were quite rude saying the previous staff was uninformed, as though that is our problem! Wouldn’t stay here again despite a very nice location.

Great location, small but comfortable room

We stayed at Hostel El Pasaje during our 2015 trip to Spain prior to our camino frances. We loved the central location, within steps of Puerta del Sol. nearby lots of shops and restaurants. So during our trip back to Spain for another camino, we stayed in Hostel El Pasaje when we arrived in Madrid, then again after we completed our camino before we caught a plane for the US.

We stayed at the Hostal on entry and then exit from Spain. On entry they had overbooked and we were taken to an very inferior room in a nearby building. We believed a partial refund or upgrade to their associated hotel should have been offered. Reception at the hostal spoke little English but we found that reception at the associated hotel spoke good English. Rooms were very cramped and the breakfast was heavily overpriced. Rooms were clean and fairly modern with good WiFi.

Moved down the road, slept above a discoteca.

There was an issue with the hotel and I was moved to another room in a building down the road. Unfortunately that one was right above El Sol discoteca, so I enjoyed some thumping dance music until 4am. There was also no window in the room which made it feel like a large, claustrophobic closet, though that's more normal in Spain than elsewhere. The wifi also did not work well at all.

The staff was friendly and the location within the city is excellent, but those other issues made it a bit less enjoyable.

Great Location but Beds are Bad

We stayed here in November this year for a couple nights. The location is great. The price was decent but we spent an additional night at Hotel Europa on the way back from Barcelona and it was a teeny bit more expensive but SO much better and worth it. The beds are what killed it for me at El Pasaje. I didn't sleep a wink and everytime someone came and went you'd hear the door slam and jump. We actually overpaid the Saturday night. It cost us $180 that night and then $50 the Sunday night. For that kind of cash we could've stayed at Hotel Europa and I would've slept like a baby. I'm sad I didn't have a better experience.

Very good location with warm front desk service. Due to flight delay, we reached technically the next day of our reservation. It should have gone as a no-show. However, when called from Madrid airport arrival lounge, the receptionist lady assured thought they are full house, will accommodate us. On arrival at hotel, she put me one of their sister hotels next door.

We had a wonderful 4 nights in Madrid. On arrival to the Hostel El Pasaje we were told that we were in the sister hotel (Hotel Victoria) across the road. We checked in to find a nice spacious modern room with balconette overlooking the street which was filled with bars and eateries. The location is superb and is highly recommended. We took the subway from the airport with our cabin cases and although having to change twice it was very convenient and cost 5euro p.p. Our only dissapointment was with the breakfast which served in the next door restaurant, we found the waiters dour even unpleasent and the breakfast itself very basic and miserly - coffee, small juice and 1 slice of toast.

The location of the hotel is great: in the heart of the city, few minutes walk from Sol metro station and with many nice bars and restaurants around. The window in the room didn't close properly so there was a lot of noise in the evening. The breakfast was very basic: a pastry, coffee/tea and glass of juice, bit disappointing. The room was quite cold and the bed was not very comfortable.

This hotel is in a great location. The room was fine, but very cold. The bathroom nicely renovated. The staff are nice, but are never around. It is hard when you want to check in or out an no one is there. I was told this is because the hotel doesn't have enough staff, so it's not their fault. They also do not speak the most basic English. I am not an English snob. I do think travelers should not expect locals to speak English. However, I would expect that if I stay in a highly touristy area that my hotel would be able to say words like credit card and towel without having to call a translator. Considering the amount of competition in the area, I would stay somewhere else.

Hidden gem; the perfect hub for sightseeing!!

Considering the price ($56/night!), we were THRILLED with this little hotel!! The rooms were very basic--similar to a \"business hotel\" in Japan--but spotlessly clean and well-maintained. The beds were \"comfortable enough\" (not 5-star, but we slept very comfortably), and as 2 women travelling alone, we always felt very safe & welcome in this area. The free wi-fi signal was consistently strong, and the staff went out of their way to be very helpful & friendly. To top it all off, the location is prime...literally a block from Puerta del Sol, and smack-dab in the middle of so many attractions. Very easy walk to Plaza Mayor & Mercado de San Miguel, and just a little further (still pretty easy) to Museo del Prado & the Palacio Real de Madrid! Overall, I can't say enough about this place, and would highly recommend it to anyone (as long as you're not looking for luxury accommodations)!!

Overall would have said excellent but a bus load of kids were very noisy way into the night 2 or 3 am. Also the deliveries and night workers are very noisy, singing loud, talking loud , clanging cans etc. and the office is closed, ring a bell for service. They stored the luggage but can't check in until 2 pm. Very excellent location. 2 min to metro and renfe train also at the same station. 10 min train ride back to shmartin station . Lots of restaurants and shopping nearby.

Had a great stay here, since it's in a very convenient part of Madrid for tourism. Right near the major metro stop for Puerta del Sol, and walkable to a good deal of sites. Room itself is pretty basic, but very clean and they are related to the Victoria 4 hotel nearby if staff isn't at the desk or you need to check luggage. Breakfast is in a nearby cafe and the included one is a pastry with a drink, but it looked like you can pay a couple more Euros for a better one if you want. Outside of that, the only real issue of note is that this neighborhood is right in the middle of a bar district. If you want do a typical Madrid night of drinking until 4 AM and stumble upstairs, then this is the place. If not, be aware and note that they have VERY good glass on the windows, so you won't hear nearly as much if they're closed.

First off this is a Hostal and not a hotel but the only difference is the very clean rooms are a little smaller without some conviences of a hotel. (The only thing missing was an Iron and WI-FI). The hostal is close to Grand Via's shopping and the metro station is 2 minutes away, with numerous restaurants and bars very close. The hop-on hop-off tour bus stops less than a minute away. My only complaint is the bed was not as comfortable as it could have been. I would definitely stay here again.

Close to all you need for a wonderful mini weekend

The hotel is a little bit less than normal standard hotel, but works very fine for a weekend. It is not in the room you would like to be on a trip to Madrid. It is minimal service at the hotel and the persons we met din not speak any english so we could not ask for any information about the town/places to visit from them. There is some noice from the town life outside the windows in the evening but after a whole day with new impressions you do not notice this. The hotel was perfect situated in terms of what the city had to offer of in regards to shopping and the tourist attractions. We took a tourist bus right outside of the hotel taking us around the old town of Madrid and afterwards we took a walk to the places we wanted to have a closer look at. This is how central the hotel is. Just a perfect weekend!

Amazing location in a very lively neighborhood

Even though this is a three star hotel it is very well maintained and clean. The rooms are small but comfortable. This is not a place for someone who wants a very luxurious stay but is very functional. The neighborhood is lively but be warned that on Friday and Saturday night the bars in the neighborhood go all night. The good thing about this hotel is that it is located on a pedestrian lane so there is no car traffic so it tends to be quieter than other hotels in the neighborhood. If you have a choice, skip breakfast. There are much better options close by.

Superb budget hotel

This hotel is in an excellent location about 200m from Plaza de Sol. The hotel is small but very clean and modern inside. All rooms have air con and a tv and although our room was a little small it was really comfortable and well maintained.
The only hassle we had was a 10 min wait for the receptionist when we were checking in but that made sense later when we realised that she was also the cleaner.
Would highly recommend (but if u want a quieter stay ask for a room at the back of the hotel as there are pubs and cafe's out the front which stay open til 4am)

New smallish, comfortable rooms, associated with Hotel Victoria nearby. Excellent location near Plaza del Sol: not near anything in particular, but easy walking distance to almost everything from the Palais Real to the art museums. Metro stop nearby. Very active neighborhood. Lots of restaurants nearby, and night life, if you like that sort of thing. Big shopping district to the north with great paseo. Hard to get to by Metro from aeroport, because must change twice. We took a cab from the end of the aeroport line. I could not get the free wifi to connect to my Nook.

We stayed for 10 days in this hotel and found it met our needs very well. Charming and modern, with very small room and small bathroom (shower only, & very thin towels changed daily). The room was kept scrupulously clean. A/C worked fiercely (options were either on full blast or off), but blanket kept us cozy. We were VERY thankful for double-glazed windows that kept out 90% of the very boisterous carousing on the street below (which lasted every night until 3 or 4 am). Location is great - just 2 blocks from Sol Metro station (the very center of Madrid), surrounded by friendly cafes and cervezerias. TV but no wifi. Wifi available 1 Euro for 15 min. around the corner. Overall good value for the money. Be prepared to speak Spanish if you want more than basic info. Staff are very friendly but English is limited.

Perfectly located near to the centre of Madrid (Sol), el Pasaje is just down a side street. Spotless room, a little on the basic side but definitely value for money.

Breakfast is in the restaurant opposite, plenty of fresh fruit, yoghurts, cereals etc too, though don't expect hot English breakfasts.

The only slight negative was some street noise until around 2-3am as Madrid partied away into the early house. A few bars on the same side street meant a little noise, but on upper floors this isn't enough to put me off going back. If i'm ever in Madrid again, I would consider staying here.

La struttura non è recente, ed il letto a molle non era molto comodo. Ma la stanza era abbastanza pulita ed in ordine. Purtroppo mentre eravamo lì, l'ascensore si è guastato e arrivava al terzo piano, noi eravamo al quarto.
La colazione era sufficiente.
Sicuramente il valore aggiunto è il fatto che uscendo dall'hotel eravamo a Puerta del Sol, in pieno centro.

El lugar esta bien ubicado, las instalaciones se encuentran bien, lo único que realmente me molesto es que como es zona de bares y estos cierran a las 6am cada mañana nos despertaban azotando las cortinas de los bares, fue muy molesto no poder descansar.

La ubicación es excelente, la limpieza es buena. El baño muy incómodo por lo pequeño, el jabón que proveen está terrible, muy malo, pero bueno, compramos shampoo y listo. La atención del personal es nula. El teléfono para llamar a recepción no sirve o no contestan. Queríamos almohadas extra, ya que las que hay estaban muy incomodas y tuvimos que ir a pedirlas, nos dieron hasta el 3er dia. Un punto muy malo es que es terriblemente ruidoso. Imposible dormir

Buena ubicación

El hotel está ubicado muy cerca de la puerta del Sol, lo que hace que sea muy fácil acceder al metro y recorrer la ciudad con facilidad , también hay muchos lugares para comer y beber.
Le hace falta más limpieza sobre todo en la regadera.

Rimelig i Madrids matoase

Et hotell midt i smørøyet i Madrid til en rimelig penge.
Kun to ting som dro ned, at Air conditionen ikke virket og at Wifi’en var dårlig.
Ellers er dette et utrolig bra alternativ.

Einfache Unterkunft, MITTEN im Zentrum. Alles vorhanden, was man für einen kurzen Städtetrip braucht und die Unterkunft liegt direkt in Sol neben der Metro. Allerdings ist es auch extrem laut nachts und die Betten quietschen.
Sehr freundliche Mitarbeiter und 24/7 besetzte Rezeption.

Im Zentrum, ordentlich, ausreichend.

Kleines ordentliches Zimmer mit Fenster in einen Lichtschacht. Leider war das Bett sehr klein und wackelig. Das Hotel hat keine eigene Rezeption und wird von einem Hotel in der Nähe mit verwaltet. Die Lage im Zentrum macht alles fußläufig erreichbar. Die Anreise mit einem Auto ist nicht empfehlenswert.

L'hôtel El Pasage présente un bon rapport qualité-prix . Nous avions une chambre donnant sur une cour intérieure , qui avait l'avantage d'être calme . Il est rattaché à l'hôtel Victoria à quelques mètres où on prend les petits déjeuners . Il est proche de plusieurs restaurants . Son emplacement à 200 mètres de la Puerta del Sol et de sa station de métro en fait un point de départ idéal pour les nombreuses visites des différents monuments et musées de Madrid . Le personnel de la réception est avenant , mais parle peu français . La garde des bagages le jour du départ est offerte .

Calidad precio muy bien. Hay mucho ruido por la noche pero es el centro de Madrid y es normal, cantábamos con ello. Es para quien quiera estar justo en el centro con todo el ambiente.

Las habitaciones son diminutas. El bańo es exageradamente pequeńo e incómodo. El precio por habitación no se ajusta al ofrecimiento. Es demasiado caro.

Fantástico servicio del personal, muy amables todos. El show de flamenco del restaurante La Carmela muy recomendado. El hostal limpio y tranquilo. Está en pleno centro. El aire acondicionado funciona bien. Muy recomendado a pesar de lo sencillo del lugar.

Hostal de tres estrellas limpio y el personal de Recepcion muy amable llegamos a las once de la noche tuvimos un pequeño problema en la habitación y en cuestión de minutos viendo que no se solucionaba el problema, nos cambiaron de habitación. Personal muy amable y resolutivo, con toda seguridad regresaremos. Gracias por la amabilidad del equipo de recepción
