Hostal Veracruz is clean and safe. Single rooms are small, cozy and functional, with private bathrooms and air conditioner. The rooms combine modern furnishings and fixtures with the traditional architecture of the building. The hostal is centrally located in the Puerta del Sol area; a great location, especially for solo travelers, with countless restaurants, bars and cafes and shops nearby, and within walking distance from major attractions such as the Prado Museum, El Retiro park, and the Royal Palace.

We stayed there twice in two weeks. Overall was a good stay. The second stay, our room was out of WIFI service. Needed to work and was unable to work because wifi was out of range. Depending what side of the Hostal you stay on, the street noise can go into 330am. Good staff and great area.

Great location, but bare bones

The hotel was easy to find and I’m glad there was an elevator, but our room was on the fourth floor so we did have to walk up around twenty steps. The room was small but enough room to lay out our suitcases which was nice. I wish there was a few more hooks in the washroom or in the room in general to hang more items. I didn’t like having to go ask the reception to use the hairdryer every time but I am glad they provided one. They even helped us to boil water so I would say the counter staff was very nice and pleasant. Their doorbell is very annoying and rings at all hours of the day when new people check in or when patrons forget their keys maybe. I would prefer if the doorbell wasn’t so loud to wake me up! The street noise is very very loud since they are below a bar that has live musicians all night but when you close all the shutters including the wooden shutters it is less noisy, but you will get no natural light this way. However I think with the location this is unavoided. People often forget to close the lobby door behind them but I think it’s crucial for safety to close this! Maybe the signage on the ground floor could be more obvious.

Small rooms with a lot of value

Great location! Right off Sol Plaza, so I could see the Christmas tree going up from the balcony. The room was small, but clean and was bright. Bathroom sink was tiny and hard to use. Toilet was fine for me, but I could see someone else bigger having issues. Shower was good. At night you can hear partiers until 5am, which is probably true for anywhere with bars nearby, but it's not too loud. I wore ear plugs to drown out any remaining noise with the windows shut. Overall, great value for the price and views.

The room was extremely small, did not look like the pictures shown. The parking the hotel had a deal with was closed, and there was no help with a partial reimbursement. Our air conditioner was linking on our bed, they did fix this. The staff were nice, but the room was horrible. It was close to everything, but it was so loud at night we couldn’t sleep.

This is clearly a two-star \"hostal,\" so understand what you are getting before staying there. It is one floor of rental rooms (3rd floor) in a very old building with two other different hostals on the 2nd and 4th floors and a common first floor entrance to all three. The room was very small and very low-end, the paint on the window frames was peeling, and the white towels were old and rough and brownish as if washed in rusty water with stains. We found no remote for either the TV or the AC, and the person at the desk left immediately after our late check in. There is no resemblance between what we got and the pictures of rooms on the actual Hostal Veracruz website.

Having said that, the room and its relatively newish bathroom were clean, and I believe the room was safe. The location in Madrid Centro next to Puerta del Sol is excellent though somewhat noisy. Taxis cannot access the hostal directly so you have to walk a block with your luggage, which surprised us but is no big deal.

We were charged almost $250 dollars for our one night, which is absurdly overpriced. For people on a budget willing to pay no more than maybe $125 and not looking for something remotely 4 or even 3 star it works, and again the location is excellent. There are probably other hostals in the neighborhood which are actually \"nice.\" But it was not what we expected or led to believe based on the Veracruz website and we would never pay that price for a place like that and would not choose it again.

The hostal is overrated and overpriced. The room was so old with below average condition, however my booking was for a superb double room. To pay such an amount of 137 USD for one single night I think I should be accommodated in a hotel not a hostal. Hotel.com should provide and investigate more accurate information about the properties announced as the photo and the review refelect completely different image

This hostel had a great location, close to major sites. Restaurants around every corner, close to supermarkets and no more than a 20 minute walk to El Retiro park, great statues and place to relax and row a boat!
Staff was pleasant, and despite being in a fairly busy area, noise was minimal, beds were comfy and the hostel was clean.

Horrible experience. The staf feel that they do not care about the guest. Only cleaners where friendly. The room was small but we did not expect large space as it's a hostel. Straight away at the entrance you are getting hit by the smell of horrible etheric oils that you use in saunas & damp. At the beginning we thought that they running sauna on a side as well as a separate business. Later we discovered that they used this to cover the smell of damp as they are drying all bedding and towels in a small room that was next to our room. Suprise they do not use dryer. Also the towels was super stinky and dirty that we was scared to use as after drying skin you was stink like a drirty old cloth. The only positive was location. Oh the safe box is weird box with whole and it you wish to use it you have to ask reception for the locker.

It is a hostal in a building that houses other two hostals.
Th entire hostal has a very strong air fresher smell that was too much for me and gave me a sore throat. Although the hostal is a non smoking one, it is surrounded by restaurants and bars where people smoke, so the cigarette smoke gets in. The rooms are very tiny, with a good size bed, but it is hard to get our clothes in an out your luggage as there is not much space to place your bags but on the bed. My dad hit his head against the TV while getting situated in the room as the space between the bed and the wall where the TV is mounted is very small. The showers are good size but the sinks are extremely small and the space for the toilet is very tiny, my mom is slightly overweight and the space was too tight for her. The bathroom had a spider web and I took a picture of it. In our bedroom the balcony door did not seal close and over night we had all the noise of the bar just outside as well as all the smoke from the cigarettes. There is a front desk person and we asked for help but the person in charge that night said she could do nothing. We basically could not sleep that night and decided to leave the next day although we had booked 4 nights. Otherwise the location is great, very central, but I would not recommend this hostal unless you are ok with smoke and noise at night.

Great location, decent rooms, very good price. I would give this place a 4.5/5. The reason I won’t give it a 5 is because the bedsheets didn’t seem very clean and there were questionable stains. Also there are a lot of bars below the hotel and all along the street that are open very late at night; due to that it was hard to get good sleep. However I knew that this area was going to be loud. If you planning to drink late and party this hotel is perfect

The room was very clean and good for a few nights stay. The location was perfect, in the centre of Madrid next to the public transport. The hostel is on the third floor and was next to a few bars so was a bit noisy at night time. The only thing that I would say that could be improved is that because we were two people sharing a double room, it would have been better if we were given a key each so that we did not have to rely on each other coming and going.
Overall I would stay again as the price and location was worth it.

This property is perfectly situated in the center of the city. Plaza Del Sol is a few steps away as is the metro. Our room was small but clean and had just what we needed. We expected the noise as there are many bars and restaurants nearby. Madrid is as busy at 3 in the morning as it is at 7pm. If you sleep lightly, consider earplugs. A/C in room. We loved this place and will probably return.

First of all: really nice customer service! Friendly and helpful. Location is great too - you are in the center of everything! 2 min from metro ( if you travel to different cities too), walking distance to all attractions. Tons of restaurants and stores around.
Rooms are very clean, but very small and simple. One thing to remember: It's the center of Madrid, nightlife is very loud! So if you don't plan to go out, be prepared, take ear plugs and sleeping aid. I really liked my stay.

Nice efficient room in a fantastic location

Fantastic location less than a 5 minute walk from the Sol metro / cercanias station. You can stop by the Statue of the Bear and the Strawberry Tree in Puerta del Sol on your way to the Hostal. Upon checkin, the person behind the desk was extremely pleasant and chatted for a bit while explaining to me the rules of the hostal. You get the passcode for the front door, the key to the hostal itself, and the key to your room. The room was pretty small, but sufficient with a private bathroom and balcony overlooking a busy sidestreet. There's plenty of life in this area! Oh yeah, the wifi is FAST here. This isn't a given at all hostals in Madrid. I tested the speed at 65.0 mbps download and 72.9 mpbs upload. You might want to bring soap and shampoo, as the couple of packets of shower gel were just barely enough. The remote for the AC took a while to figure out, but it was worth it on a hot summer day in Madrid. It took a bit, but the room did cool down and I was very glad AC was available. All in all, this was a nice visit. Not fancy, but definitely nice enough (and cheap enough) for a place to rest while spending time in Madrid.

Great Location but Very Noisy at night

If you are a light sleeper stay away as it gets very loud all night (or till 5am). There is a bar by the building and you could hear people sometimes fighting or just plain loud because of too much drinking. I knew this through other reviews before I booked this hotel, but I proceeded anyway as it is within my budget.
The most important thing for me is cleanliness, Location (close to metro, not far from city Centre and walkable to landmarks) and free WiFi.
3 minute walk from Sol Station Metro to Hotel. Hard to find hotel name. The Hostal door is beside Museo del Jamon.
There is a buzzer downstairs to call reception and person will let you in.
Elevator can only fit 2 persons and 1 luggage.
Reception are quite nice, friendly and willing to help, just ask what you need.
Room is tiny but clean.
Bathroom is also clean, there is a tub and shower.
If you need a hair dryer just request from the front desk. Their toilet paper feels like... paper. I suggest bring flushable wipes as theirs will hurt your bum. Overall, it was good but I don’t think I’d stay there again. I would book another hotel close to metro and more quiet at night. I thought the noise wouldn’t bother me, but it did.
