The main hotel seemed nice on arrival, staff polite and happy to help. Buffet Breakfast was well organised with time slots and good variety of well booked food. The rooms needs modernising and look tired and a little outdated but the main issue is that we got bitten within the room and following GP appointment on our return have been advised that they are “bed bug” bites. We have advised the hotel of our room number and hope they deep clean and destroy mattress and bedding. We have ok return used smoke bombs and sprays to ensure that we haven’t brought any bed bugs home with us in luggage or on clothing. Access to the theme park was easy but it’s a shame as out of season that lots of rides weren’t open, with shorter access times

Fantastic themed hotel very close to the park. But AVOID going in October half term. It was so overcrowded it made the stay very difficult. Queues for the breakfast just to get into the hall were so long that we gave up and missed breakfast on one day. Book earlier slots for a chance to eat and still get into the park early. Also the queue to enter the park was about 45mins to get let in at 10:30. They should make it earlier so you can enjoy more than one ride before the queues become so long. Some rides had 3 hour waits. We gave up on a couple after queuing for an hour and not moving much. I’ve been out of school holidays and it is amazing but avoid the school holidays. The hotel is just too big with so many people to cater for. The evening dinner had half an hour standing queue to get to the buffet. Food was excellent though. It is a great hotel and really fun but I would probably look at staying outside the park and visiting if I go with kids in the holidays again. Queueing 45 mins to get in early and have a shorter wait time queueing doesn’t add up so it really isn’t a benefit being in the park. Maybe a cheaper hotel nearby and spend the money on Express Passes would have been better. Shame as it’s a really fun hotel!

Room was nice, the hotel itself is themed amazingly. The main buffet was a bit of a scrum with huge lines but ultimately staff worked with urgency and got people through. Very much organised chaos. Reception were excellent, they had our room ready when we arrived at 9am and offered us a late checkout too. Proximity to the park is also a huge plus.

For a four star hotel I would have expected more in room amenities, like a working extractor fan, amenity kits in the bathroom, a second pillow, but overall as a place to crash after a long day in the park it worked quite well.

I booked this hotel mainly because park entrances were included, but to my surprise, only one of the two parks advertised (Ferrari Land) was open. Even the open park had maybe 15% of the attractions running. I understand it might be seasonal, but this should have been clearly disclosed at the time of booking, not something to find out after arriving.

We had a fantastic time at the PortAventura Gold River Hotel. We stayed in the Wild West area—it was incredible! The setting was so immersive, the kids were thrilled, and everyone we met was super friendly. I highly recommend it for a fun family getaway!

Good hotel with direct access to park

Check in was slow as room wasn't ready even until about 4pm so we had to wait at the lobby for about an hour which was a bummer as we had rushed to end our half day tour by 3pm.

Hard to figure out where our room was from the map as we had to head outdoors and identify the right building.

Dinner timing is a little restrictive as need to prebook a timeot and it's difficult to get the time slot you want on the first day since those who stayed the night before would have done it way earlier.

Direct park access was great though, so I would recommend still because of that.

Reception staff were not helpful at all, provided with a room with poor air condition I asked to be fix but nothing changed. requested for a taxi reservation and they inform me that they did the reservation, but they did not, and I ended up wasting 40 min waiting. the hotel serve a dinner which ends at 10 PM and after 10 there is no other food option but the bar which served only one type of sandwich on that night, tried to order food from outside but the hotel did not allow the driver to come in! their first justification was that the hotel policy don't allow ordering food from outside restaurants, because the hotel provides food and drink! then when I asked them so if I show up coming from outside with food would you stop me and not allow me to enter the hotel? they said no! they just did not have a proper justification for not allowing the driver to come in, I agreed to go to him myself but because of the heavy rain condition I asked for a golf cart to take me at the gate and of course they refused!

the hotel has another strange policy, if you have the VIP reservation then you are allowed to enter the park at the day of your check in even prior checking in time which is at 3. but if you arrive before 3 you will be paying a luggage storage fees if you left your luggage with them to enjoy the VIP access! couldn't the hotel provide a luggage storage for VIP reservations!

When we were allocated the room at 4.30 pm we discovered that the room had not been cleaned. We finally received the room at 5.30 pm. The room was very nice, although no hot drink facilities - it was in the Callaghan Hotel. The food at the evening buffet was awful. The hotel was super crowded and chaotic - it felt more like a public space than a hotel.

Hotel is very pretty, check in was easy, room was ready early. Very close to the parks. Rooms were clean, spacious. Pool area was really lovely. I would stay again at this hotel. Only a few negatives. For a 4* hotel i would expect a kettle and somw tea and coffee, maybe a few biscuits. There was no kettle, not even a bottle of water. Breakfast was included in our stay and had some tea there, the food selection was ok, but did not cager to vegetarians at all. No veggie alternatives. The buffet dinner was just ok, not much selection, and nothing for vegetarian. Check out was easy, just leave and take your key card to get into the park. Reception staff were helpful and ordered us a taxi to vila seca to get the train to Barcelona. I will come back to this hotel.

This is a super busy hotel BUT it all runs smoothly, staff are very helpful, it’s a very well run operation.
Rooms are a tad old fashioned BUT I think they are still good value for money and they are cleaned every day.
The buffet is so busy BUT very slick, lots of food options, well cooked too. Lots of healthy options and for dinner there is a cold water dispenser which was appreciated.
The hotel access to the theme park is such a benefit as I heard that at the main entrance there were huge queues. Also, we loved that we could be at the pool and then in the park and then back to the pool so easily.
Everything is so convenient here and well managed. It’s definitely a kids holiday, the only slightly annoying thing are the pool rules. No hats, sunglasses, t shirts, balls floats etc. for kids wearing a hat in the pool is essential I think so my son did burn his shoulders even with factor 50 on!!! It didn’t spoil the holiday and we still had the best time.

The only inconvenience was the lack of a supermarket within walking distance or any dining options other than those in the parks or the buffet restaurant at the hotel which became boring after eating the same food every day. We stayed in city hall. It is very convenient for access to the park and the wild west theme is very well done. Access to the theme parks is also really easy.

I wouldn't stay here again for 2 reasons. 1. The layout of the rooms surrounding a central atrium means that sound travels. During the day not much of an issue but hearing kids screaming in the central areas at 11pm at night was irritating.

2. The food is ok as is the variety for one day. The issue is the food stays pretty much the same throughout the stay albeit maybe a different topping on pizza.

Food in general across the parks was not great but I guess to be expected.

If heading out of the resort you need a car. Nothing is close by. A

Unfortunately didn’t recognise Expedia gold member status and when I spoke to different staff including a manager they said they never heard of such benefits which was disappointing. Convenient to parks and clean.

Food - we went full board - breakfast was ok decent selection. However, avoid dinner in buffet at hotel it was poor selection and no drinks available (not even water) you have to buy wine or beer. Exchange your voucher for one of restaurants in park or the la Liga one just outside.

Fantastic hotel, we stayed at the Callaghan building but used the main hotel for check in and meal times. It was spotless, staff were friendly and everyone in our family loved the theme. This is our 3rd year to PortAventura and second year staying at Golden river. The hotel is stunning and very clean in the common areas.
We had booked double and twin beds but we had two doubles, this also happened last year so we were particularly careful when booking this time to book twin beds as one of ours sons is an autistic adult. They kindly upgraded us to a family room which was so nice. The room was spacious and had a kitchenette with a microwave and a large fridge which was great as we our boys like to have their favourite drinks and snacks.

Aircon is very good and the shower is very powerful (too powerful as I worry about water waste).
The room was cleaned every day which was lovely.
We ordered a wheelchair because due to an injury I was unable to walk long distances or climb any stairs but this hotel is excellently adapted to those needs. The dropped the chair off to us and picked it up at the end of our stay for a €9 a day and €20 cash deposit.
Unfortunately the buffet etiquette disappointed me this year, I felt it was over crowded and too many children unsupervised making a mess. I appreciate it’s a theme park but some rules need to be in place for eg, children under 10 should have an accompanying adult. They push in, take too much food and waste it and make an incredible mess. I saw two small children take sweets with their hands, I saw an older child struggling to pick up fruit one at a time ?? Adults can be equally rude pushing in front.

Great Hotel during offseason

We wanted to stay on site to attend Ferrari Land and Portaventura. Due to it being offseason, there was not a shuttle. Ferrari Land is about a 15 minute walk from the hotel but has direct access to Portaventura. This allowed us to get on Uncharted very quickly and beat the rush. Overall, really enjoyed the entertainment and thought the price was great value.

Hotel overall is fine but dinner service is like the Wild West and make sure and eat fast. Park operations are amongst the worst that I have experienced globally….and I’ve been to a lot of theme parks. They heavily promote express pass and it shows….2 hour queues with one train on is unacceptable. Sadly I will not be rushing back.

After reading many reviews, we decided to visit the Gold River Hotel and it was first class on all levels. I have previously stayed at Disneyland Paris Hotels with my family and this is every bit as good. The quality of the food is excellent. They offer various slots for breakfast and evening meal, which suited us perfectly. Having unrestricted access to the park is ideal as we found queue times to be busy during the day but come back about 9PM and the ride queues are all very short. We had a connecting family room, which was very comfortable and spacious. I would highly recommend this hotel.

No gold exclusive membership benefits applied :-(

The hotel would not apply any of the gold exclusive benefits that you get with hotels.com. We didn’t even ask about the room upgrade. It was not given.
And the 20% off in the food was not applied at the restaurant because they didn’t know about it. We showed them the booking with the discount, and they refused to apply.

The hotel in Sevilla the night before applied a late check out as it was possible. And also brought us the bottle of bubbles to the room, all without even asking. As it was given at the time of booking.

This is an expensive property to stay in but choose this purely for the theme park. Very disappointing them park only open until 6pm, this not reflected in reduction in price for off peak season. Also park really busy so had to purchase fast pass tickets for an additional é270, no real benefit of staying in hotel. No entertainment after 6pm. Wallet was stolen in hotel and staff extremely unhelpful. Very disappointed, overpriced

Best themed Hotel ever! Must Stay!!!

This hotel is incredible. From the moment you walk through the doors you are transported into a different world. The theming of this hotel is just insane. The swimming pools are amazing and the walk to the theme park takes about 60 seconds.
The service was a bit hit and miss but that was purely down to the fact of how short staffed they were. But that wasn’t the staffs fault. Some nights they were so rushed off their feet it was not good. But they did their best.
My advice is do not pay for half board to have the buffet included in your stay. It’s so expensive and the quality is not as good as the on site restaurant which was really nice food!
If you’re coming to Portaventura you simply have to stay here. Yes it might be a bit more expensive but you get what you pay for. A truly memorable experience!

Family holiday mid-Oct - amazing stay at Hotel Gold River - clean, comfortable and quiet. Service/staff were more than hospitable, although the reception can get busy at check-in times. PortAventura park entry is literally a 2min walk which the kids loved. we stayed half board for breakfast/dinner. Food was great and there was a wide selection there to please even our picky kids. The hotel is part of the PortAventura resort so is a little isolated form the town. We focused our stay on the park but did take a day out to visit Salou which only cost us 15euros taxi to the park and back. We would highly recommend this hotel.

Great Western Theme Hotel

Great hotel with some fantastic western theming. Good value for what you get considering we had a day's park access included for each day we stayed. Clean, comfortable and unique. This hotel is as close to staying in the wild west as possible, great fun. Made up of a number of buildings which make it feel like a western village, there is also numerous restaurants too. Only complaint was our particular room could have had better sound insulation, noise of people walking in room next door could be heard and babies calling their parents.
Free parking at the hotel is a great benefit and direct theme park access through a private entrance into the western theme part of the park is also really good. 100% would stay here again.

Extremely nice family room for 5 people and 1 child. There was a pantry and two bathrooms. Very clean and staff was very friendly. The hotel provides access to the Theme Park and one entry to Ferrari Land. We stayed for 4 nights at the hotel. The cleaners would clean up the room and replace towels and make up bed. Very impressed. There is a free shuttle bus that takes you to Salou town centre and back from 8pm onwards. They even provide taxi's to the airport however be careful of the drivers as they may not give you back the correct change! I would recommend Hotel Gold River to everyone going to Port Aventura Theme Park.

This is our 4th visit here over the last 7 years. As a family we love it here as you can do as much or as little as you like, Clean and safe and older children can go off on their own. Very few minor probs which did not spoil holiday (1. Could not get any pool towels, asked 3 lots of staff @ hotel) 2.Food not quite so good @ dinner as the past 3 visits, too much burgers, some food not hot enough) Apart from that it is a lovely holiday destination.

This was our second stay here as a family, the theming is fantastic and the kids love it. We we’re really disappointed on arrival to find our room was run down with exposed wires and broken aircon. We had only visited two months earlier and the room was far better. After a chat with reception we managed to get a new room the following day which was far superior, bright and airy with lots of space. Great family holiday

1. Waited in line for 20 min for someone to tel me I needed to go to other desk. No signage that explained this
2. Front desk agent lady asked for my voucher I explained it was Expedia booking pre paid . She said no and then told her to check write manager who said it was fine .
3. Bellman who we asked for assistance to store bags said he was alone and couldn’t do it. We awaited then noticed he was gone and helping others store bags . Wasn’t very personable .
4. When we came back for bags the bellman asked if we could see our bags after taking our baggage receipt . Bad organization in placement should be able to tell where bags are by ticket .
5. Went for pool towels and was told towels are reception . Bad service , guest shouldn’t have to run around for towels. They should be at the pool area ready when needed.
6. Asked front desk Denis about shuttles to airport. He explained they just pickup. He said we could pay driver. I asked if he could exchange Canadian dollars he said yes. Then when I arrived he said they couldn’t but Bus company would take cards. When bus came they said they didn’t take cards. I ran inside and told Denis and he said sorry I could go get cash from machine which charged me a fee for withdrawal.
My experience overall was very poor I would never advise to stay at this hotel simply because it not up to par on service and feels like your being taken at every opportunity.

Themeing of hotel is fab, check in was VERY slow, need more staff. Staff were very friendly when eventually got to talk to them. Would recommend this hotel for anyone visiting portaventura, good value for 2 days tickets included. Buffet at evening meal and breakfast was very nice, kids loved it.

We wouldnt stay again.

The theme park rides were amazing.
The hotel on the other hand we would not recommend.
The noise at night was out of control and the hotel was situated in an area that made it extremely hard to access. You cannot walk near the hotel and have to take a taxi just to get off the grounds - the staff were extremely rude and unhelpful with regards to this matter.
The food was poor and there was only 1 option other than buffet, which was noisy and manic.

Hotel is extremely close to the park, it took us around 2mins from walking out of our room to entering the park, very convenient to pop in and out all day. Rooms are very basic no plates,cups or cutlery but you have a microwave and fridge. The cleanliness was not 4* our room was provided with clean towels everyday when our they were left on the floor and our bed was made but the bathroom and floors were not cleaned everyday. Unfortunately my family and I were bitten alot in the bed and requested the bed to be changed which they did instantly but we were still bitten later that night.

Clean, Comfy, Short Walk to Theme Park, Isolated

We booked here because the other Portaventura hotels were unavailable, but we didn't realize how isolated the hotel was (we took the train to get there) if you don't have a vehicle, and thus you're trapped into spending money for expensive meals on site only (we ending up taking a taxi to one of the local towns for dinner). Also, there are no signs from the train station to inform you how to get to the hotel, which is odd, but the staff did transport us for free from the closest hotel to the train station to this one. Aside its gated, isolated location, the hotel was clean, the grounds are well kept, pools are nice, and the theme park back entrance is literally a 5 minute walk away. Oh, and this one plays non-stop country music on the grounds, warning, which we dislike unless its Dixie Chicks, Nanci Griffith, Hootie (Darius Rucker), Dolly or Johnny Cash (we didn't hear any of these people). You're welcome.

The staff could not be more rood, food if any available uneatable, they basically couldn´t be bothered to keep any of the restaurants open, if the Hotel manager didn´t care even a bit that there is no food available on-site as the place is in the middle of nowhere

Great family fun, 11 year old and 8 year old boys had a wonderful fun packed time. We sayed for seven nights. The cowboy themed hotel was fun, the rooms were cleaned everyday & were spotless. The piped country music outside was funny & the kids found themselves singing songs off by heart because they heard them so often! Half board was good value, it would have cost a fortune in the park everyday to feed everyone. Definitely get the express passes! saved us from queing in the heat of August. The worst queues were at reception, far too few people manning the desks. The park closes at 12pm, meant you could get to the park early and then go back to the hotel for a swim and lounge by the pool, dinner and then hit the park again. Ferrari land was great but you’d only spend a half day there & the waterpark was fine but a bit packed and overwhelming the day we went. We did a day on the beach in Salou and also a panoramic tour of Barcelona with Busplan which was a good whistle stop tour of all the sites in the city. We’d highly recommend PortAventura if a beach only holiday isn’t what you want.

Grrat hotel for Port Aventura.

Great themeing around the hotel. Rooms are meant to look old but are very clean. Breakfast was busy but good selection. Theme Park entry is included for all days (check-in and check-out) which is superb. It's about a five minute walk from reception - extremely handy.
Pools are nice but, as you'd expect from a family resort, full of noisy kids.
Pool bar/restaurant was a big dissapointment.
Overall prices for food and drink were not unreasonable.

Nice hotel but has issues

Nicely themed hotel in good location, but food and drink expensive. We were completely ignored at the pool bar/restaurant one afternoon. Waited for 15 minutes while several staff walked past completely ignoring us so got up and walked away never to go back. Ran out of toilet paper in hotel room one day as cleaner did not leave any, and black hairs found in our bed. Pool seemed very dirty and never saw it being cleaned. I personally would not go back here.

It was a nice clean hotel with good food and the easy access to the theme park was a bonus. The pool was excellent and the shuttle bus to Salou made a nice evening out.

Very bad hotel very dirty I found a cockroach on my bed and the room is very dirty , there is no water heater for tea or coffee and no pathroap and Slepares from the end the hotel is not recommended for any body it’s very expensive for nothing

Amazing hotel. Very close the park

We stayed at the gold river as a birthday present to my partner. The place is beautiful. The theming was done very well. The when you entered the park the theme continued which I thought was well laid out.

The park was literally 2 mins away from the hotel.

The pools behind the hotel was excellent -3 decent sized pools with plenty of sun loungers around.

When we got to the room the bed only had one pillow each, but a quick trip to reception and this was sorted with 10 mins.

Please note you there is not an iron in the rooms / reception do not have any to loan.

Checking was fast and efficent. The room key doubles up as your park entry card. We had a hire car and parking was also free. The security guard on the gate would check the boot on entry / exit to the hotel.

Overall a very pleasant experience.

Room smaller than described...

Be sure to read the fine print when staying at this hotel. You pay for a room with two beds and they have the option to give you one bed if desired. Staff unhelpful except to bring in a tiny rollaway for my 6'3\" brother.

Unhelpful Supervisor at Port Aventura

Expedia was helpful in trying to resolve hotel issues. Port Aventura supervisor was not. Booked a “Standard room with queen AND 2 twins ».
Received room with 1 queen and told I “didn’t pay enough for a room with a queen and 2 twins. Supervisor offered a “complimentary” rollaway. I book hundreds of rooms a year and have never had this issue.

Nice themed hotel directly connected to the park

Hotel was great however it is a little awkward to access if you come in by train/foot as there are no directions and the hotel grounds and entrance are fenced off. Other than the initial access issues we had a pleasant stay ;)

Good hotel for a theme park enthusiast

Good hotel, very helpful reception staff and ideal if you are a theme park enthusiast. The only reasons I have not given it full 5 stars are the room we had smelt of cigarettes and the hotel only offered to air it out no exchange. Which did not get rid of the smell in the 2 nights we stayed. Otherwise, good facilities except no free water available for the very hot days and nights.

Staff were not helpful. 1 thin flat pillow each had to ask for more. Very noisy throughout night , as we believe there was a dog in the next room as well as door slamming . Very dark corridor, couldn't see to get my key in the door and walked into pile of sheets left by cleaners. Not a good experience for what is meant to be 4*.

Good fun for families

We went with our two teenage girls and it was good fun. the theme park is open until midnight so we went every evening as it was cooler, less queuing and the rides are definitely more fun in the dark. Portaventura train station is on site so it was straight forward to go into Barcelona from the hotel, it took about an hour and 30 mins. If you go to the Aqua Caribe water park you can buy the tickets at the hotel for € 20 each but go from when the park opens as the queues are huge. The hotel is more aimed at French and Spanish tourists. The staff speak English but there are only four English speaking TV channels, three news and one sesame Street. You can't stream TV, films etc online from hotel wifi, however these are minor issues as why are you sitting watching TV anyway when there's a theme park next door? Salou has a beautiful beach, restaurants, shops and night clubs. We didn't go to the night clubs as we're ancient but we seen the youngsters coming home at 7 am looking very happy. The hotel runs a free evening bus service from10 pm into Salou, last bus is around midnight to come back. We would recommend hotel. Staff are friendly, food good, attention to detail in the buildings i.e wild west theme is better than anything we'd seen even in Florida, theme park is huge with some great rides. Good fun for all.
