The place is disgusting, infested with cockroaches (big ones!) and mostly falling apart, not to mention the beds that hurt to sleep on and the pillows seemingly filled with baked beans. How it has 4 stars is crazy, it wouldn't get 1 star if a UK inspector visited it today. Didn't last the full stay, checked out early, and the owners rudely told us where to shove our refund request

This is no longer a 4* property. The rooms are tired and in need of renovation. The cleanliness is fine for the rooms and what I generally seen around the rest of the complex. We used this complex for a stag do. Stag do’s & Hen parties seem to be the main stay of the present business. I found the staff to be friendly & helpful. The entertainment was ok but not necessarily to my taste. I didn’t eat in the complex so I can’t comment about the restaurant.

We came for the Northern Soul event for the first time. We enjoyed our stay, it was very relaxing and good value for money. The position of the hotel was great with an easy walk to the old town. Staff were excellent all round. Loved our room overlooking the avenue with the sun streaming in. Happy days. Thankyou we will be back .

A large complex. Our studio was adequate. The wifi was very intermittent and only really worked in the bathroom. The cable channels offered very little in english and pictures broke up regularly.
Staff did attend quickly to any requests. This was a budget holiday so I guess you get what you pay for and did represent decent value for money

Arrived very late at night and our room was very unclean (pubic hairs in bathroom, dirty bedding sheets and a unclean kitchen) also had a strong smell of cigar smoke, and loud music from the bar below this was at 1am. After complaining to the reception we were told there was no manager on until the morning so eventually the following day got moved. Next room was slightly better but not the cleanest room I've stayed in. Also my partner had an accident on the baloncy falling through the plastic balcony chair hurting his back and the only apology we got was a fruit basket. Wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. Stay away!

Overall hotel is good value. only slight negatives were the cleanliness of rooms, seemed as if cleaner only gave it a very quick once over, and the pool area had some very drunk people towards the end of the day and these people were not spoken to or controlled by any staff.

Very well worn, family hotel

In need of desperate refurbishment & lots of maintenance, pool VERY cold not heated, NOT enough sun beds and you have to pay for lounger cushions!!!! Remember to get up early and reserve your sunbed , as no rules apply , they leave from 6.30am onwards , how crazy !!!

We went to Albufeira for a stag weekend. Hotel was in an excellent location. The hotel itself looked smart and clean throughout. There was always staff on hand to help you out. I think we booked one of the cheaper rooms as the beds were pretty hard but it was a stag weekend after all so that's no great shakes.

Only a couple of points:

- why have a diving board and not be allowed to use it?
- as a recommendation maybe have waiter service pool side

Would definitely stay there again though without a shadow of doubt!

We returned to this hotel again for the second year running. We find the hotel very comfortable and clean. Rooms are cleaned every day and bedding and towels changed and are very spacious. We used the self catering kitchen in our room and found a great range of food at the local supermarket.The facilities are just what we need and the staff are so friendly and helpful and will sort out any problems you may have.The hotel was busier this year than when we stayed there at this time last year but the standard was still very good. We booked trips through the hotel and enjoyed them. The hotel is in a great position, inbetween the old and new towns, there are many local shops and eating places and of course the supermarket. The hotel has a courtesy bus to the old town several times a day, the road train stops just near the hotel and the hop on and hop off bus, stops at the hotel, we used all of these methods of transport on several occasions during our stay. The only negative thing i could say about this hotel is the pool is very cold, but after a while you do get used to it, and that was the only negative comment i had last year as well, but it doesnt stop us going back. We are hoping to go back again next year for the third time.

Our experience

We spent a very pleasant 2 weeks and had nothing but friendliness from the front-of-house Staff, all of whom went out of their way to make our stay brilliant. Being in the Winter/Spring and \"out of season\", the Hotel was quieter than in the \"Season\", but that suited us perfectly. We had a view over the (empty) Swimming pool, and made use of the Minigolf which caused an immense amount of laughter, and no little frustration when my wife \"fluked\" the occasional hole-in-one! The room was more than adequate for our needs, and the beds were comfortable, but not luxurious.
The food was reasonable, our being on Half Board, with the Breakfast being totally adequate, and the Dinner being reasonable, both in variety and quality, but I had to remark to the Assistant Manager the the bay-Maries were not always hot enough to keep the food as hot as they should be. This was our ONLY concern, and there were improvements made.
I do NOT recommend the Travel Shop nearest to the Hotel, as the Staff told lies when a comment was made about a Historical Tour that was very poor, and the lies were followed by further unpleasantness. The SHACK at the top of the Strip was excellent, however.
We intend to return to Portugal again in the near future, but would appreciate a golf Course that was more reasonable in price than the ones in Villeneuva! £80.00 is too much, being out of season as it was.

The hotel was generally good but desk staff were very inexperienced and unable or unwilling to follow through for guests requests. It might be alright if you are from Spain but not too helpful for non speaking Spanish guests. Room was good except that the only chair to sit upon was a hard backed kitchen chair. Not very relaxing for extended stays. It was a good location for accessibility to restaurants, bars, etc. No beach access but great pool area.

Touristy hotel with pools etc

I stayed for one night in Oct 2015 on a 4 day trip through Portugal starting in Albufeira. Being autumn and non tourist season the hotel room was very cheap. I'm not sure how much more it costs during summer but its an older dated hotel and rating accordingly. OK I guess for a few days in the warm summer sun.

Good choice when travelling with children

The Paraiso is a big hotel so be prepared for a lot of walking to and from the room. The pool area and the outdoor pool are excellent ( this time of the year \"October\" it was not crowded which was great. The hotel is getting old and serious maintenance needed if they are going to keep the 4 * - but no complains from our side as we certainly did not pay 4* price for the stay. The staff is not very knowledgeable and too few at check in and check out times - \"not my area \" seems to be a standard phrase. Signes could be better as there are several elevator ares for different floors. More up to date snack restaurants / restaurants - smaller with a better priced choises is needed especially for the children. Selling melted and re frosted icecream at the pool bar is not an option. Overall we loved the activities for the children.

Brill hotel easy check in rooms kitted out with full kitchen towels changed daily if ur in the room the maid will come back pool good size loads of loungers u can rent towels or mattresses for them brilliant snack bar at pool holiday reps doing things for children all the time entertainment at night staff printed off my boarding passes hotel has little shops inside it u can walk to strip in new town and hotel does courtesy bus to and from old town which is good not sure if all inclusive is a bonus seen signs it was only till 11pm in the bar and cocktails u had to pay food not expensive we were here in end of September I'd say during high season this hotel would be very busy tho no wifi was a down side

Beware of this Hotel

If you are a non smoker do not stay at this hotel people were smoking on the balconies where ashtrays were provided on the balconies and corridors. The smell and taste of tobacco was so bad it was on the curtains and bed linen. We asked reception if it was a non smoking hotel she stated it was but everyone smokes. We had the room fumigated by the housekeeper
The first room we were given was dreadful it was overlooking a concrete wall and the dome to the entrance of the hotel the wall was so close to the window
you could only see the wall and dome. We obviously moved rooms and got the tobacco infested room.
We asked the receptionist the rating of the hotel to our amazement she replied 4 Star which is a joke
We informed her that the previous night we had stayed at the Porto Nova hotel in Tavira which was also 4 star a lovely hotel with a good breakfast included and was much cheaper. She stated it was owned by the same company and sister hotel to the Paraiso. Unbelievable.
I am amazed Hotels.com even market this Hotel as 4 Star I think it rates as a 1 Star Hotel.
On check out I asked to speak to the manager to which she replied HE's not here yet.
I asked for the Complaints Book which caused a panic with phone calls being made. I put a full report in the complaints book never to return.
This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed

In the middle of it all

The hotel is perfectly situated between old and new town if you want the restaurants and bars. The hotel itself is a little dated but makes up for it with the staff (especially the entertainment team). As a big hotel and part all inclusive part self catering there was confusion with rules of restaurants etc and if you don't like to queue occasionally to get a drink you might get frustrated but in general it did exactly wanted it was there to do. The only other issue was sometimes sunbed hoggers! Rule of thumb is you cant reserve however some do despite only appearing at the afternoon! Enjoy!

Great family hotel.

We had a self catering apartment which was clean and spacious and suited us perfectly. The hotel staff were very accommodating and when we had checked out and left a toy behind, they went to find it for us....and found it. We didn't eat at the hotel, only the snack bar but the menu looked inviting. The facilities for young children were great. Our 3.5 year old was kept entertained with the pool and mini club!

Hotel was ok but not what I would call 4 star

Hotel needs updated. Balcony was full of cobwebs, obviously had not been cleaned before we got there or while we were there. Kids play park was also covered in cobwebs. Good that there was an indoor pool as we had a bad day, swim caps were supposed to be worn when in this pool but there was no one to enforce this so some people didn't. Location was good.

Had a lovely 8 night stay at the hotel in April.The staff were very friendly and helpful, the rooms were clean and comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked with equipment.The pool and area was very nice with plenty of sun beds. The only thing i would say is that the pool was freezing cool but that didnt stop us enjoying our swims. The hotel is inbetween the Old and New towns, both of which can be accessed by either the free bus from the hotel or the road train. Beautiful surroundings, and we went on a trip booked at the hotel and it was lovely and very well organised.

Great family hotel in the heart of Albufeira

Really enjoyed our little family retreat to Paraiso de Albufeira. Weather wasn't fab all days but you can still find plenty of activities to keep little ones occupied. Easy walking distance to both Old town and the Strip along with close transport links including local land train. Hotel perfect for family breaks.

The location of the hotel is central to the Old town, Beach, Shops & the Strip. The hotel itself was had very few guests and I feel I could have been offered a room on the front of the hotel rather than one over-looking the car park. Staff were a little defensive when I asked and they could have been a flexible with a room swap considering the time of year and volume of guests

Pleasant place to stay overall

Stayed 9 nights in room on sunny south side. Very pleasant and comfortable on the whole.

Greatly disturbed on two occasions when football teams stayed overnight in rooms adjacent, or very close, to ours; extremely noisy with shouting and door-banging from late afternoon and throughout the night. Staff were sympathetic and tried to help as best they could, but little was eventually achieved.

Stayed 4 nights in 1 bed apartment and thoroughly enjoyed the hotel facilities and entertainment provided every night. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the location was good for both the old town and the strip. Will definitely stay here again.

Fantastic place to stay at with my young kids. Rooms were clean, free kids club, friendly staff, excellent location, 20 mins walk from beach, strip and old town. Free bus to old town/ beach. Resort has plenty to offer and variety. Clean towels, nice outdoor pool (not heated) and play area for kids, bring your swim cap for indoor pool use (heated). Only issue was bathroom had no lock on it (for safety??). We had a self catering apartment.

Very disappointed!

Fighting on first night there. Was advised by reception to go and sort it out. Very noisy at night only one night where there was no noise! Very disappointed! We have been before and the standards were like a five star hotel. So sad that this place has deteriorated soooooooo much! Would not recommend it or visit it again

To start, the sofas on the beds are less than 2 cm thick, no room service, the pool has a serious stench as the sewers run close by and are exposed in some areas. The water is temperature is sub zero.

They requested a deposit for the iron and rental of a lock for the rooms safe plus another deposit

The television is miniature, the soundproofing terrible and the food no comment. (Restaurants close by so).

Other than that, nice reception area and entrance rest of the hotel outdated. Gym, sauna etc. are not part of the hotel, a separate daily rate has to be paid. There is no ventilation and more stench.

Overall you do get what you pay for. I did enjoy my stay as stayed outside the hotel most of the time.

For what you pay, you do not get much for your money. Everything is nickled and dimed. Could not even get a towel for the swimming pool without paying a fee. I would not stay at this hotel again, nor would I recommend it to anyone. Also, hotels.com did not reserve the appropriate room sizes for my party of 14. When we arrived, the hotel could not accommodate us and 4 of our guests were forced to stay at an entirely different hotel. Needless to say, we were very disappointed.

This hotel was just ok

Staff were polite but not very friendly, rooms were clean & useable but not exceptional as the tv was ancient with limited chanels available. The indoor pool is very small and was extremely crowded as the weather was bad. The pool was also very cold as was the jacuzzi. The hotel did not offer a great deal for families re entertainment during the day and what was available cost a great deal. The spar which was separate was also exspensive at 50 euros a session. We did go at the end of March which was the beginning of the season so might be better later in the season.

The front. reception and bar are lovely with the outside pools and complex great for everyone and would probably be a 4 star but the bedroom we stayed in was a 4 star in the 1980's, really dated with a poor shower. The fridge had to be unplugged at night for the noise off it. If you like a long lie you won't get one in this hotel as the cleaners are round 8.30am and are really noisy with moving furniture and hovering in the rooms around you! The bar is quite expensive aswell, we never tried the restaurant. The hotel is in a good location as its between the old town and the new town

Hotel was very clean and well situated. Fairly quiet and seems to be family friendly. Room was cleaned every day the apartment was well equipped and beds comfortable. Our apartment was a little too near the hotel bar. The staff all seemed friendly both in the hotel and its shops.

Lovely Hotel... shame about the miss-advertising

Hotel itself is lovely, perfect location directly between the old town and the new town (strip)! I stayed in a spaceous 1 bedroom appartment which had 2 full bathrooms (one of which was en-suite). The outdoor pool is beautiful and the indoor pool/jacuzzi was just as nice. The major let down for me was being ripped off when using the hotel telephone booth in reception. On the phone it says 20cents per unit - which i thought to be fairly reasonable... turned out a call for 13 mins to the UK cost me 34 euros which i obviously wasn't too impressed about. When I spoke to the reception desk they could not even tell me what 'a unit' is and how the call come to that amount. The reception staff wasn't very helpful and would not/could not explain why they did not advertise the prices of telephone calls accuratley so that holiday makers could make an informed decission. Furthermore, my sister who lives in Portugal and speaks fuent Portugese tried to speak with the Hotel Manager to explain what the problem was! She was told to 'think about starting a discussion with him as she needed permission to even visit me at the hotel'. Basically he wasn't threatening to deny her visiting me at the hotel if she continued to persue a conversation about the mis advertisement. All in all it gave me a sour taste in my mouth for the remainder of my stay. Everytime i walked passed reception the staff were smirking and whispering under there breath! Quiet unpleasent :/
