Hotel if fine but deposit policy is a farce

Nothing at all wrong with the hotel, it's nice and comfortable and the room was clean and tidy. Pool is lovely too although we spent most of our stay out and about in town.
My gripe is that the deposit they require they insisted in paying in cash. The paperwork was not clear on this and I expected to be able to do this on a card and they money to be held on that until we left.
As a result this cleaned me out of the cash I brought on the trip, in fact I had to lend some off someone else, and then on the last day they hand it back to you. Not much good now I'm leaving!
Not sure if this was because we were an all male party but it was very unusual and the staff acted cagily when we checked in.

August 2025, family of 4 stayed in a two bedroom apartment on the second floor.
First time in Portugal I really didn’t know where to choose to stay, mixed reviews about the accommodation but I just went with it.

Lovely friendly staff, beautiful pool, great location and the apartment was clean, spacious, kitchen well equipped and the apartment cleaned daily. Some parts of the hotel could do with being modernised but it really wasn’t a big deal.

The safe was located beside reception and easy to access 24/7.

The pool had a mix of majority families and a few groups of girls and fellas in their 20/30s, no issues with unacceptable behaviour at all, everyone was just enjoying themselves. Some families there were saying it was their second or third year coming back.

There is a pool bar which serves drinks and snacks.

The strip was a 7 minute walk, the old town a 25 minute walk and the beach 15 min walk. Ubers between 3-4 euro so easy to get about if you don’t fancy walking.

So in summary an enjoyable stay at the Ondamar, good location, safe environment and lovely staff.

Came up on family friendly option but was full of noisy drunken stag do’s. The rooms were run down and dirty like most of the hotel - what food there was was overpriced and frankly disgusting. It’s a budget option so don’t be put off if that’s all you need but we found other, better places for the same price nearby

Hotel is very good, good location but check in took forever. Rooms are very spacious. Pool is a good size. Pints of beer/cider 5 euro a pint.

The hotel was a sad place to be, with zero atmosphere or ambiance. the check in staff looked unhappy, it was dark, everything was locked and most of the hotel isn't in use. It's noisy, because there there is hard surfaces everywhere, so the sound bounces.

The one positive, was the rooms. They had been renovated and looked \"fairly new\" but the bathrooms was still cheap, lacked light and nicer fixtures and fittings. The bed was comfy and the water was hot and we had a little kitchen area which is obviously good for longer stays.

We we told that they dont cater for groups, stag or hen parties, but that's all we seemed to find at the pool. Loud, drunk, youngsters, shouting and screaming. It was an uncomfortable place to be, so much so, we left immediately.

I can see the hotel looked like it was a great place to be, but it's just a sad, dark place with no life to it. I'm glad we were only staying for one night, because we couldn't wait to get out of there.

Do not go to this hotel

Do not stay in this hotel under any circumstances. We’d booked a room of 4 with 4 single beds around 6 months before our trip. We turned up and checked into the room and there were 2 singles and the other two “beds” were a leather sofa that didn’t even pull out as a bed and also a mattress on the floor.

When I went down to reception to complain, I was told there was nothing they could do. I even opened hotels.com and found other rooms on there and requested they put two of us in there and they said they couldn’t.

Firstly the beds are really uncomfortable and sleeping was tough enough but add stags parties into the mix having parties on their balconies until 7 am sleep became an added bonus. The complex overall needs some TLC as lots of minor things need fixing, door handles, lights switches and toilets to name but a few. The pool area is nice and clean the gardener does a great job of clearing loose leaves at 8 am every day with his exceptionally loud leaf blower but thats ok because he might wake up the stags party which finished an hour previous. The only dining option open at the time was the poolside bar all other indoor options were closed even though it is May, ordering a drink here became a challenge as they ran out of draft beer and when offered the option of a bottled beer this was taken however, this beer is usually served with lemon or lime inserted but regrettable neither fruit was available. The staff seem to be disinterested in the guests and rarely engage in a meaningful way when approached at the desk. Overall Ondamar although a nice building it needs some care and attention.

Great, comfortable stay

A group of us stayed for 3 nights and all of us were very happy with the hotel, the service we received and the excellent location.
The beds and umbrellas around the pool area seem to be recently updated, the entire hotel was spotlessly clean, reception staff were friendly and helpful. The beds were very comfortable (We stayed in the pool studios).
We did have some noise from other guests, and we could hear noise from other rooms, but it is to be expected due to the location, it is close to the strip. Whilst it is close to the Strip it is also far enough away that you can relax and feel remove from it.
Would highly recommend to anyone looking to stay in Albufeira!

We came close to the end of October. The indoor pool heater was broken which made even that pool not very enjoyable. And the outside temperature has not been great for swimming outdoors. The 2 bedroom apartment was clean and spacious for a family of 5. The beds were very uncomfortable and the noise was very loud from restaurants and bar near hotel till 2am. Which made it hard to sleep. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. It’s in a nice location.

We had a very negative experience at this hotel. All through the night people are out on their balconies drinking and being loud. People come back to the hotel late and are very loud in the hallways. We also had housekeeping come into our room twice with the do not disturb sign hanging. One time I was changing in the middle of the living room. No knock on the door. The other time we were gone and came in to the room being cleaned, which we didn’t want. We also had a broken hair dryer and were told they couldn’t replace it, it had to be repaired. We had to have a bedside lamp switched out three times because we kept getting broken ones. When we went for breakfast our final day, one person stayed behind to go later. When she went she was told that because the other people in the room went to breakfast already her food was already provided and she couldn’t have anything. Not even a cup of coffee! No one told us anything at breakfast. We said three people at the time! We asked to leave after the first night and be refunded so we could stay somewhere else. The manager refused. I would only recommend this place if you stay up late and are okay with noise. I would never recommend it otherwise.

Hotel was very good, staff in reception were polite. Rooms were very clean. My only comment would be that the security around the pool over the weekend stopping people playing with a light weight ball in the pool was a bit much! Overall we had a great stay and i would return.

The hotel was fairly basic but clean and well maintained. Not many of the facilities were open but that may be to do with the current Covid situation. The normal hotel I stay at in this area wasn’t open due to Covid but prefer the one I normally use. This hotel has a good location and staff are helpful.

Great location and great hotel if you’re just using it as a base. No double beds which was a shame and the lighting was terrible in the bedroom very small too. The air con didn’t work very well you were either freezing or roasting. Staff were grand, didn’t break their backs to help us but weren’t awful either. Hotel was fine really

Friendly staff and lovely hotel. Decor is slightly dated but cleanliness was brilliant. Can hire a pool towel for €10 that can be handed back for a new 1 after every day if needing to. Get money back once towel is handed in at end of stay. Large pool area and grass area for sunbathing. Location is ideal between both old town & new town. 15 minute walk at most but only €5 in taxi, reception can call taxi to collect at hotel entrance. They offer a free shuttle bus at various times throughout the day to old town. We will definitely be returning to this hotel in future.

This is our third year at ondamar and we enjoyed it! The pool bar food has improved on last year and the new addition of the mini golf course is fantastic! Hotel is in a great location in the middle of old and new town and this is always our go to hotel when we stay in albiferia

1. No pads on the sun beds, so were very uncomfortable.
2. Air conditioning could have been colder.
3. Lighting in the bathroom & bedroom was so dim that I struggled to see when getting ready to go out of an evening.
Other than those very minor faults I would stay there again.

2 bedroom apartment was very spacious and the pool area was very good. However the air conditioning in the bedrooms were terrible, the TV had only one English Channel, Sky News. Bar & restaurant all closed at 10pm, pool closed @ 7pm, 20 Euro’s 1 weeks WiFi which was wasn’t any faster than 3G. Hotel had no atmosphere at all, we wouldn’t stay here again.

Spent week here. 2 adults and 2 kids. Apartment was good size. Cleaned daily. Close to the Strip and 15 minute walk to old town or €4 in a taxi. Free shuttle bus to old town 3 times a day. 5 minutes to Albufeira shopping centre where there's a big supermarket. Not much of an atmosphere in hotel. Nobody in bar or restaurant. They had sign up saying there was parrot show on for kids. We went to the bar. We were the only ones there. Show never happened. €20 for WiFi for the week. Chinese across the road is great. Also restaurant nearby (Uzonj) did 3 courses for €10!! Overall it was fine and would probably use again.

We stayed over the Halloween break and really enjoyed our stay, was mid 20s temp. 2+2 so we decided to book a 2 bed apartment. On 3rd floor, overlooking pool. Apartment was big, decor was a bit dated but was clean. Two balconies with table and chairs. Beds were very comfortable and linen was changed during the week. Housekeeping came daily, very nice ladies. Kitchen was well equipped and all appliances were spotless. Only downside to the room was there was no safe infinity it as they are interested a room at reception and remote for tv was €20 deposit
Pool was lovely, nice size with plenty of beds. We did not eat at poolside bar but others did. Only downside was that there was no ice cream they said it was because it was end of season.
Inside pool was small, weather was good enough not to have to use it.
Indoor bar was nice but nobody was in it really. The games room was not open.
We got the courtesy bus down to the old town twice. Would be a long enough walk. The strip was closer and easy to walk to.
Few shops within 5 mins walk which was handy.
We found the staff very friendly and helpful.

Nice hotel in a decent location for the old or new town, decor and fittings are starting to show their age a bit and could do with an update. Staff were all really helpful particularly in the pool bar and reception. A bit of a mix of clientele with Families and Groups, which made some of the nights late on fairly noisy but I suppose that could happen anywhere. Pool was clean, beach was about 10-15 minutes walk away and was nice (if a bit rocky) so had a couple of days there, we had a 1 bedroomed apartment for 2 adults and 2 boys 10 and 13, the boys slept on beds in the living room a sofa bed with a trundle bed underneath which was fine for them.
Overall a good experience

I might be a tad harsh as we had a wonderful experience in Ibiza earlier on this year, and yet this stay was £100/head more expensive.
Couple of points worth mentioning:
- Good for family, not so much couples. Unless you enjoy people chilling by the pool being able to watch you get changed. All the small rooms are on the underground/ground floor.
- Friendly reception staff and very arranging
- Close to supermarket, walkable distance to Strip and Old town
- £20/week for wifi in your room, yet the connection is pretty poor
- Cleaning wasn't the best, very much did the strict minimum. Was also some confusion on the last day and they walked into the room at 8ish AM although check out is allowed till 12.
- Restaurant and bar in-house have no atmosphere whatsoever.

I stayed here last week with my boyfriend. It was in between old town & new town so ideal location. We spent a lot of time in old town. Weather wasn't the best so ate out loads.

Urban pizza old town - amazing all there dishes are - cocktails are Devine
Went to vilamoura for a day- nougat t'n was superb for cakes

Overall a very good basic hotel. Defiantly not a 4 star but a good 3 star. The room was a good size (1 bed apartment), dated furniture but that didn't bother us. Room was cleaned everyday with fresh towels, beds were ok, shower was powerful and warm, good size room. The hotel had a good indoor and outdoor pool, although everyone used the outdoor pool as it was warm in July of course. Pool was clean, the bar service basic food and good drinks, plenty of sin loungers, wasn't overt crowded. Staff were friendly when spoken to but would have been nice to be acknowledged a little more. Hotel was in a good location near a good size supermarket and a few local Spar shops. In between Old town and new town within a 15 minute walking distance. Beach was about 15 minutes too which was great. Plenty of bars and restaurants on The Strip in the new told. Can be quite livery over the weekend with stags but was a good laugh. Overall a good hotel, room for improvement but would stay here again for sure. Really good prices accomadation.

First I was met at reception at 9 on a Friday night by a lovely girl with an excellent manner so my first impressions were very good. I had a very big room and I found the Hotel very good and a great location. Reception always very helpful. Bar very quite but most hotel bars are and people tend to go out but if you had young kids it would be fine. I would recommend this hotel and I will be back, so overall very good experience

Það var aðeins einn stóll à svölunum sem er óásættanlegt, starfsfólkið gat ekkert gert. Við fórum og keyptum nýjan stól. Enginn tappi í baðinu og bara hægt að fara í sturtu. Ekki hægt að fá tappa.

Bon accueil, mais quelques points à améliorer.

Le nettoyage de notre studio n’a pas été effectué correctement. Nous avons demandé à l’accueil ce que comprenait exactement le service de ménage. Nous avons signalé que la table n’avait pas été nettoyée, le cendrier n’avait pas été vidé, et la vaisselle n’était pas faite. Seuls le lit avait été refait et un rapide passage de l’aspirateur semblait avoir été fait.

De plus, le pommeau de douche était cassé. Il serait utile de vérifier le bon fonctionnement de vos installations avant l’arrivée des clients.

L’état général du lieu est plutôt mitigé, avec de nombreux signes d’usure.

Les transats sont réservés par des serviettes dès 7h30 du matin, ce qui rend impossible d’en trouver un à 10h. Cela a limité notre capacité à profiter pleinement de la piscine avec notre bébé, faute de pouvoir trouver de l’ombre.

Le pataugeoire n’est pas nettoyé régulièrement, bien que des enfants y jouent. Un petit coup de filet serait apprécié.

Il serait également utile de placer un règlement dans les chambres pour éviter que des jeunes alcoolisés crient dans les couloirs à 2h du matin.

En ce qui concerne le rapport qualité-prix, je pense qu’il pourrait être amélioré. À ce prix, il est possible de trouver mieux ailleurs.

Cependant, nous avons tout de même passé un bon séjour malgré ces désagréments.

En hotel langt fra sin storhedstid

Jeg synes hotelet og værelset især var meget dårligt holdt det var mange år siden der vr brugt penge - tid på vedligehold.
Morgenmaden var meget basic og ikke særlig lækker - meget primitiv. Kolde æg og meget smagsløst.
Pool området fint - folk ligger håndklæder ud osv.... meget rodet.
Flinkt og sødt personale - meget hjælpsomt.
