A Well-Deserved Break at Luna Hotel da Oura

I recently stayed at Luna Hotel da Oura with some good friends, and it was exactly the break we all needed – and at a fantastic value for money. Our two-floor apartment was a total win – spacious, comfortable, and with not just one but two balconies. The view from the top floor was incredible, stretching across the town and right down to the sea. Perfect for enjoying a morning coffee or an evening drink while soaking up the sunset.

The layout was ideal for socializing too – plenty of space for when friends from the other rooms wanted to pop by for a drink and a game of cards before heading out for the evening. It was the perfect spot to unwind and catch up in style without feeling crammed in.

The rooms themselves were well-appointed, with comfortable beds and blackout curtains that made it easy to catch up on some much-needed rest. The pool area was another highlight – plenty of loungers, a nice little bar serving cold drinks, and a laid-back vibe that made it easy to forget about the outside world.

Location-wise, it’s close enough to the lively strip if you want a taste of the nightlife, but far enough away to enjoy some peace and quiet. We dipped into the buzz of the bars a couple of nights but were always happy to return to our spacious, comfy base with that stunning sea view.

For what we paid, it felt like a steal – great facilities, loads of space, and a brilliant location. Would absolutely stay again and recommend it to anyone looking for a well-priced break.

We enjoyed our stay at the Luna Hotel da Oura. The rooms are very large. A few things need to be repaired in the room we had. The towel bar fell off and the bottom dishwasher rack needs to be replaced. Other than a couple of things, the hotel was very good. Easy walking to The Strip but a little farther to Old Town. Very nice hotel. The young man at the front desk was very accommodating and helpful.

Hotel is in a good location and whilst it has all the amenities required to make it four star, you will be sorely disappointed by your room if you’re expecting four star comfort. The rooms haven’t been updated since the 80’s and are extremely depressing
If they’d spent as much time on the accommodation floors as they have on the ground floor then it would be a half decent hotel
Basically they’ve put lipstick on a pig !

Beautiful hotel in a great location. 30-min walk from Albufeira old town and 15 minutes from Oura Beach.

If you are planning on going to the beach, bring your own towel! They charge 30€ if you bring the towels from the room to the beach. Then, when we asked for beach towels, the person at the front desk said we couldn’t get them until the spa opened at 10. At 10, we went to the spa (which was still closed). We then went back to the front desk only to find out the towels were there she whole time and not at the spa at all. They then charged us 1,50€ per day per towel and asked for a 10€ deposit for each. For whatever reason, the person at the front desk was making it very difficult to get towels.

The towel experience left me with a bad impression of the staff, but otherwise, the hotel is great!

I loved the suite because it was large & very comfortable. The price was amazing however they charged for pool towels & the use of the safe! Walking distance to a grocery store. A bit far from the Old Town of Albufeira however we did walk it once. An Uber was 4 Euros. Close to a few good restaurants as well! 2pools also which was nice! Outside pool not heated. I do recommend this hotel!

The room was comfortable but a bit dated. The blowdryer was one of the boxed units attached to the wall (circa 1970), but it worked fine. Lobby was really quite nice. I would have used the indoor pool sauna and jaccuzi but you are required to wear a bathing cap...which I dont have. You also have to rent pool towels to use at the indoor and outdoor pools

We are a family of four (two adults, two teenagers) who are fairly well travelled. We were really looking forward to our stay at The Luna having travelled some of Portugal and Spain before arriving. Sadly, we were quite disappointed. Upon arrival at 3:55 pm we were told we couldn’t check in until 4:00 pm and then were told at 4 that our room wasn’t ready. The front desk were unkind, often telling to refer to the hotel paper they provided if we had questions. Things felt very controlled (don’t ask for towels to be replaced) and dated. Additionally, it was noisy with many young adults partying and no control over noise. Consider different accommodations if you’re a travelling family.

Okay but not what it used to be.

We have visited this hotel before in 2019 and stayed in a lovely room on the top floor. We arrived and check in appeared at first to be easy, we were sent to our room what I believed was going to be the same or similar to what we’ve stayed in previously , we soon noticed that this was not the room we had booked & paid for it was just a standard twin room. We returned to reception and were told there are only twin rooms remaining, after me being fairly persistent that we were not having a twin room as we had paid for a studio room which is advertised as having a double and a single bed. We were made to feel like an inconvenience for wanting a double bed, we were eventually given a room with a double bed, I am still not believing this is the studio room we paid for and just a standard double room.
After we were settled in the room we did enjoy our stay. The hotel now seems to attaract a different crowd to what it used to, there is multiple stag/hen dos staying here during our stay , understandably theses are loud which is fine but the walls are very thin and when they’re returning from nights out at 4/5am it does mean we are having a disturbed nights sleep. Also leaving alcohol bottles and rubbish by the pool, playing loud music. Both of which break the hotels own rules but there is nobody to police this.
The restaurant was only open for breakfast which we didn’t try. There is a shop across the road and only a short walk in to town & beach so it’s a good location.

Pleasant hotel with a view

Not a 4 Star Hotel

Starting with the most obvious, no 4 star hotel charges extra for using the safe (3 euros per day) which is advertised as being included in the room on both hotels.com as well on their own website. This is completely false advertising and honestly very CHEAP on behalf of management for the room rates they charge during the summer. While the lobby has been upgraded, the remainder of the facilities and rooms and furniture have been largely untouched since the 1980's and the windows lack any form of noise reduction quality and you can easily hear people, motorcycles and buses if your room is facing the street. Even the laundry facility is old and they only have 1 machine per floor which is not nearly enough for a hotel that size. The pool is extremely basic and they only provide a vending machine for snacks and drinks (no alcohol allowed by the pool and not sold either)... definitely not 4 star quality.

The entire stay wasn't bad though as the room itself was fairly clean and the location of the hotel was fine if you want to stay near the strip. Theres also a very good market, breakfast spot and laundry place all within a few minutes walking as well, so that was helpful during our stay.

That said we'd look to stay elsewhere when we return to the Algarve.

The hotel ia brilliant they are on top covid constantly cleaning down including sunbeds.

The cleaners came daily with freah towels etc.

The beds and bedding are so comfy and allowed us to chill out and sleep unlike some hotels.

We visited the bar once which was nice.

The bathrooms could do with modenising but was still in giod working order.

Nice resturants nearby and the supermarket across the roundabout is brill including the coffee shop that cost us €2.20 for two lattes and two cakes.

Reception clerk at the front desk in the morning was very patient and helpful. Our room had a kitchen, fridge, dishwasher which was very useful. Also self- serve laundry was easy to use. It is very close to the grocery store. The room itself was a bit older. A bit of a walk from any beach. The pool closed early 7pm and did not offer rose service. we did enjoy the spacious gym. Airport shuttle service was 40€ comparable to Uber.

Well located property to a selection of shops, restaurants and beaches. We got a duplex room, which was really appreciated, but I guess some people who are less mobile may not have liked that surprise. Restaurant was small and intimate, very nice for the half board choice that we made. There was a good selection of fresh food and fruit for breakfast, so we all found something we liked, local style/healthy or if you prefer, the usual chips at dinner. Pool area was great - nice and clean and really caught the sun, and there were always loungers available, even though the hotel was fully booked.

Property was great, very clean. Loads of amenities within the hotel, pool was lovely and clean! Location was very central, being 5 minutes away from the main strip of bars, clubs and restaurants and the beach being only a 10/15 minute walk.
Local supermarket was right opposite and few fast foods within a 5 minute walk.
Area was really safe, even to go out at night.

Only thing was they couldn't find my booking straight away on the system and one of the staff members wasn't really helpful or welcoming. Until her manager came and done her best to help us, and although check in is at 4pm, on these circumstances was allowed to check in early

Overall, great hotel! Would definitely come back!

Stayed here in July just for 3 nights on a girlie weekend. Room was clean and comfy, friendly staff. The fridge didnt work in my room but i never reported it so can't comment on how fast things take to get fixed. Good vibe around the pool and reasonably priced beer and food.

Great location. Must try Mother India and fat cats. 5 minutes walk to the stripe. Pool had no bar but this was not a miss as the pool was very peaceful. You can use the connecting hotels pool that has a bar, this can get noisy at the weekend though with the hen and stags.

Very quiet when we arrived but filled up at weekend with stag and hen parties as we left. The pool area shown in photo is all newly refurbished with new chairs. Decking and pool also looked very recent fear it would be very crowded and noisy if the hotel was full. Our room was fine but needs updating the kitchen was a bonus but someone had used the worktop as a chopping board so it had a lot of cuts in it.
We were told the room had a double bed unfortunately it was 2 singles pushed together that moved independently as you slept, reception told us that it what they
call a double bed. All the rooms are like that? A twin room 2 single bed are not a double bed whatever “they” want to call them?

A perfect location if you want to be equidistant to sea, shops, old town and beach. Approx, 15 min walk to all.

15 min walk downhill to beach, 15 mins to old town, quiet hotel. Needs updating was built in the 70’s and not changed since then. Room was not serviced daily we had to ask for towels after 4 days. In the 7 day stay the bed was made once and the room was not cleaned at all even though we asked a couple of times. Would not put me off going again though.

Staff were very friendly, from check-in to check out. Pool was warm. Jacuzzi and sauna was spot on. Food was brilliant. Room was nice - studio flat with all the amenities required for self catering, although we didn't use most of them - we booked bed and breakfast and as we'd hired a car, we chose to eat out on most days.
The weather was really nice too. Great hotel at great price and would definitely recommend.

Did not really like the area the hotel was in but it was only a 20 min walk from the old town which was nice. Would definitely use this hotel again. The area in general is not great for using a childs buggy or wheelchair as there are issues with the cobbled footpaths.

Great space, lots of room. Sea view. Friendly check-in. Location good, would recommend using Uber to get around.

Our stay was brilliant, lovely clean hotel and bedrooms! Staff were friendly and helpful. Perfect location, not noisy at night at all, 5 min walk from new town and 15 min walk from old town which was ideal, taxis are very cheap anyway! Towels were changed and beds were made everyday which was nice! Overall we had a very enjoyable stay!
