Alma Vida was an amazing place to stay during our visit to Manuel Antonio/Quepos. The property and grounds were gorgeous and they had three beautiful pools. Breakfast was included, which we got every morning and was really good. It is also really close to a lot of restaurants, bars, and shops, which you can walk to. We also saw a lot of animals on the property, including iguanas, agoutis, and monkeys.

The rooms are spacious - great for small families. The staff are very helpful, and the hotel is within walking distance of a lot of great restaurants. Rooms are very clean. However, the hotel breakfast is not great, and there are long waits to get food unless you are there when it opens. Our hot water didn’t work the last 2 days, even though someone tried to fix it. And the bathroom flooded when we didn’t completely compress the flush button one night, and the toilet was running (not overflowing - just running). Also, our TV didn’t work. There are a lot of stairs, so not suitable for guests with difficulty walking.

Nice pool, staff friendly and also convenient and pro active. I really enjoy my room, was big, clean and with a nice balcony with a view on the jungle. Parking is easy and close to everything. Good breakfast too. Only little details, it has no yoga or meditation class as they say on the website. It’s sad, because the yoga studio is really beautiful.

Great location for walking to several restaurants. The atmosphere of the property was very lush and tropical despite being close to the road. Monkeys in the trees were such an exciting treat to see. One thing to consider is you get ur steps in since there are a few. Good exercise so felt I kept fit for the 4 nights. The three different pools were a nice feature as well.

Rooms were comfy. AC worked great and beds were comfy.
Included Breakfast at the restaurant was delicious.

Restaurant across the street “El Avión” was a fun dinner. Food was good with variety.

Pretty good spot! Quiet villas surrounded by well manicured gardens and pools. The breakfast has an amazing view and such a good vibe! The hotel is pretty much in the centre of the action and still maintains a peaceful atmosphere .We got upgraded to a duplex room so happy about that but there were several geckos inside of it chirping all night. Saw parrots and agoutis on the property, and several monkeys across it. Clean rooms and fresh sheets everyday and perfect a/c :)

This is a great location, with several restaurants nearby. The staff were almost all helpful, but one or two seemed annoyed to be asked any questions.
If you need ADA or have trouble with stairs, I wouldn’t recommend Alma Vida. The hotel has steps everywhere and is located in a hilly area.
The onsite restaurant is fantastic (vegetarian fare) and the staff were awesome.
The property lost power several times during our week long visit, but never more than an hour. We also lost water usage for about 12 hours.
We used two of the pools several times. They were kept at a refreshing (cool not cold) temp, but are in need of some repairs.
The exterior of the facility is well maintained, but the interiors feel a bit dated and could use better maintenance. On our last day we also discovered a large opening in a nook that led from our room to what appeared to be an older staircase to the room above. Had we found it earlier in our stay we likely would have asked for a different room, as it felt like easy access to our room.

I give the hotel 2 stars. It looked like the hotel was about to close. Had a pool bar but looked like it had been closed for a long time. The menu in the restaurant was vegan. It showed healthy on the website. 1 large bath towel per person. No hand towel, no washcloth. Nowhere to put your toiletries in the bathroom. Advertized yoga classes but was no longer offered. It’s unfortunate because the hotel looked like it had a lot of potential.

We initially had to move rooms as there was such a large gap between the door and the outside that there were lots of ants and crickets in the room. The rooms are also very small and there was no hair dryer or hand towel. There was a generator on the roof of our room so it was also very noisy. The staff were friendly and very helpful and the pool was nice. Breakfast was also good especially if you need dairy or gluten free options.

Unfortunately, the rooms are mouldy. We are told that that’s what you get in Costa Rica. We had switched rooms and even went to look at a couple others and they all were in similar state. I’m very sensitive/allergic to mold, so it was less than ideal to say the least. The second room that we stayed in some renovations, as there was paint or caulking on the mirror and countertop.
Breakfast was fair at best. It was served at a vegetarian restaurant in front of the hotel. Honestly, I don’t think they know how to cook eggs and bacon.
The staff were very friendly and pleasant to deal with. Location is great. Right near the restaurants. Not too far from the beach.

The property is BEAUTIFUL. Friendly staff. For the basic rate you have your own private cottage. Great price. Centrally located to most attractions. There are large gaps in the doors and windows and you are in a tropical setting, so creepy crawlers can get in. It is important to know there are no TVs in these rooms and no refrigerators, but they were able to upgrade me to have same for an additional fee. Free classes (yoga, etc) you can register for and free breakfast at restaurant in hotel...not bad! Also has vegan options.

I’m surprised to see this hotel described as “exceptional.” In our experience, it was average at best. While the rooms were acceptable and staff generally helpful, there were several issues.

Restaurant service was poor. On our first night, a hot drink was forgotten despite asking three times. Breakfast was consistently unreliable: although there are only four options, portions and items varied daily, things were often missing, and service was very slow.

The rooms were poorly thought out and not particularly child- or adult-friendly. In our room, rebar was protruding from the floor, which felt unsafe and unacceptable (photos attached). Cleanliness was also lacking, despite the hotel promoting a zen, yoga-friendly atmosphere.

Overall, the hotel has potential but needs better upkeep, more attention to detail, and a clearer sense of identity. For us, it was a 5/10.

Stayed 2 nights, great location 15-20 walk to the beach but all downhill no clear side walk a bit dangerous with traffic not recommended in the dark. Walking back up hill is doable but can also taxi uber or bus . Restaurants close by went to YOLO great salad Live music .also went to Agua Azul had the panko Seared tuna highly recommend it was amazing.
Room is decent no safe which I don’t like. Pool is nice and warm. Breakfast was good as well fresh made to order. Staff are very nice and very helpful. I would stay again and recommend.

The rooms were cleaned regularly and spotless and the staff friendly, but what really stood out was the abundant nature. I saw more wildlife here than on all of the nature tours I went on put together. I saw 3 different types of monkey, iguanas and lots of birds including the striking fiery-billed toucan.

We had a very disappointing stay.

Upon check-in, the first room we were given had a strong and unpleasant smell. After talking to the front desk, we were moved to another room, but the situation did not improve. The second room had extremely poor hygiene. The bed sheets were dirty and had visible blood stains. The shower drain was not working properly, causing water to back up in the shower area.

The overall cleanliness of the hotel is a serious concern, and the breakfast was also very poor.

Because of these issues, we decided to cancel our second night and booked another hotel.

We would not recommend this hotel and hope the management takes hygiene and maintenance issues more seriously.

The restaurant was great. Healthy and fresh ingredients. Great coffee and cacao desserts. The yoga classes are also amazing. Beautiful place to relax and enjoy a yoga session. Instructors are very nice and accommodating. Grounds of hotel are clean with lots of wild life.

I booked a basic single but was pleasantly surprised with a complimentary upgrade to a Deluxe Double. The room was spacious, spotless, and had a balcony overlooking the yoga deck and walking trail (currently closed). Even though it was right in the center of the property, it still felt private and relaxing.

The location of the room was excellent — less than a minute to the yoga deck, pools, and restaurant. It was so convenient that I could leave my things by the pool and quickly return to my room to shower, grab something, or get ready for the next activity. The hotel itself is also in a great area: about a 15-minute walk to the beach, 1 minute to the bus stop, and just a few minutes to several great restaurants.

Staff were one of the highlights. Everyone was kind and helpful, with Henry and Matthew at reception standing out for their friendliness and knowledge of tours and activities. They even arranged for security to turn on the lights at the yoga deck so I could have a small incense ceremony — a thoughtful touch that made my stay memorable.

During the early wet season the property was quiet, though I imagine peak season could be livelier given the central location. Fortunately, the rooms are well insulated, so noise would likely be tolerable. The only thing I missed was having a fridge for medicine or leftovers. Overall, a wonderful stay — comfortable room, perfect location, and truly exceptional staff. Highly recommend Alma Vida for a memorable stay in Manuel Antonio.

I would HIGHLY recommend this hotel for so many reasons. We live it so much that 4 days later we returned to this hotel again! I also will not even consider another place when returning back to Costa Rica. Kenneth at the front desk BOTH times was so pleasant and made the experience just perfect.
