Wonderful views over the water with balcony from a spacious apartment. Great access to the water and the city. A swim/sauna/jacuzzi was welcome at the hotel on very early arrival from airport. Luggage happily stored on my behalf on request.

Good room with great views of the harbour but travellers should know that this is really not a proper hotel, much more a residential block renting out suites. There is no bar or restaurant, a very basic reception service, no breakfast. You really are self catering which is fine so long as you know what to expect.

Hotel is in great location for downtiwn and Viaduct Basin - plenty of shops and place to eat. Staff we dealt with were lovely and helpful. Gym and pool were good. My only thing I needed was a full length mirror in room so could check out attire as we were going to wedding. Otherwise stay was good, no complaints.

I was unsure what to expect after reading mixed reviews. Sure the room decor was a bit \"tired\" but I understand that renovations are being carried out. It was acceptably clean but not spotless. However 10/10 in all the important things. It had the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on, plenty of hot water and great water pressure. Viaduct, supermarkets and great range of eateries all within a few minutes walk. Same goes for buses. Every staff member I met was friendly, courteous and obliging. I wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

The 1st room on the 2nd floor, the bath had a large piece of the white emamel missing and the tiles had mold. Do we changed rooms to the 3rd floor and room was excellent. I believe they are now renovating the lower floor rooms. The heated pool and spa were excellent plus easy walk to all of Auckland. Yes, I would stay there again.

Room 220 really needs immediate maintenance. There’s mould on the bathroom ceiling and in the tiles and grout, along with peeling paint, a dirty shower curtain, cracked tiles, and even tape on part of the rotten floor. It’s disappointing, especially given the rate — around $200 per night when booked directly. The room is small and hasn’t been properly maintained for years (I know since I’ve stayed here before), which is a real letdown.
On the positive side, the location is fantastic — very close to the city centre. However, you do get some street noise, so light sleepers might find it disruptive. The staff were very friendly, and I appreciated the gym, pool, and in-room kitchenette.
Overall, the hotel has potential, but the cleanliness and maintenance issues really need attention. I wouldn’t value this room at more than $150–$160 per night in its current condition.
Just a little tip if you’re coming with a car parking is a lot cheaper in the parking building close to the Rydges hotel 2 mins walk away.

Clean room and great location and facilities. Only minor item was that the housekeeping staff did not refresh our towels and coffee/tea milk during our two night stay despite having a sign on the door to make up the room and having personally requested the staff to help with these two items.

We had a lovely stay here. We picked it because it was walkable distance to Skycity theatre. The room was nice enough with a big comfy bed. The grouting in the bathroom could use a good scrub and quite a few stains on the carpet. Overall it was a good place to stay for a night if going to an event as we didn't spend a lot of time in the room anyway and everything else looked clean. The shower has great water pressure too.

It is the sole hold up on check out.

I had a good experience staying at the chancellor this weekend, I had no serious issues pop up. Check-in/out was easy and quick. I pre booked parking so having a space secured was nice, the car park was better than many others I have seen at similar price ranges around Auckland city and easy elevator access (usually). I wasn’t expecting a bond of $250 but I got my refund right then and there on checkout so no harm no foul. The elevator went out during my stay but they had specialists there fixing it and had it sorted asap. My room was clean and tidy and had all the amenities you would think of wanting. Some damage to the tiled areas in the room but nothing major and it didn’t affect my experience so again no harm no foul. The bed was cozy and the view of the skyline (perfect view of the sky tower) really was awesome. I’ll also mention the room was well soundproofed with windows and balcony doors closed and the blackout curtains let me get some good sleep after a night out on the city (everything available within 15 min walk through town). To wrap up, 3.8/5 stars can recommend the chancellor queen studio room (city view) especially if you can get a deal on the price $330 for two nights stay was worthwhile for a guy wanting a weekend getaway.
