Great and central location to where we were attending. Good value for money. It is a little tired and needs a little work ie water damage to bathroom door which makes it very difficult to open, dishwasher a little bit falling apart. Staff were very obliging, friendly and helpful. Would stay again

The first room we were in had a moldy smell, a lopsided fridge, a dirty terrace and several pieces of broken or missing furniture. We were asked to be moved to a different room and we're. While the room didn't smell and the fridge want lopsided, there was still broken or missing furniture

Good location and spacious rooms, with a wide range of facilities including a dishwasher and washing machine. The beds were clean, but the room itself was not very clean, so if you’re looking for a spotless place, this may not be the best choice.

The towels we received were dirty and unwashed! Nearly all the towels had marks that indicated they were used prior and just folded and set out for the next customers! We complained and were given new towels. The cleanliness of the room isn’t great. Marks on the couch as well.

First room we got smelt like it had just been dried out from a water leak. It smelt really really musky, the ceiling hatch baorder was swollen and falling apart. Parts of the kitchen floor tiles were cracked and would rock and move around when walked on. The tv screen was taped up to hold it together. We quickly asked to change rooms. The next room was slightly better. Still slightly musky. You could see big smears on the walls from where it had been cleaned. There was an ironing board but no iron, had to borrow our friends room iron. The shower door leaked pretty bad. After 2 showers the floor was soaked. After inspection, the seals on the door may aswell not have been there. Our friends room was again, slightly better but still not great. Their fridge didnt work and kept beeping as to say the door was open when it wasnt. They had the same experience with the shower door. The whole hotel smelt musky from the entrance, down the hallway and into the rooms. Maybe the air conditioning unit for the building is broken. Overall the stay was very underwhelming and for the price paid, i expected better. Wouldnt stay here again.

Dissapointing hotel, advertised as 4 star.
Room in very poor condition with broken furniture, broken and loose floor tiles, bathroom door handle fell off, missing lever in the sink plug so would not drain etc. Mould in the shower and thick dust on the skirting and headboard light strip. The hotel had aranged for a potential buyer to vue our room during our booked stay. The buyer and presumably the real estate agent let themselves into our room, without even knocking. I am waiting to hear back from management about this. There are a few parking spaces for guests in the basement. There was disagreement between hotel staff about which were the spaces owned by the hotel. Risk of getting towed by using the wrong space. One space is in front of, and blocks a fire hose.
The only food option I saw is a small vending machine at the entrance. Many homeless/intoxicated people in the road outside. Did not feel safe.

Nothing we I arrived my booking had been cancelled were given 2 1 bedroom apartment mine had no tv and was extremely old. I had booked a 2 bedroom apartment with balcony very disappointing manager blamed Wotif for the cancellation. Very disappointing worst accommodation I have had during my stay in NZ.

Booked two rooms for me and a buddy. He got there first and checked him in however they had already booked someone else in the room. Head to find a new one. Then our rooms weren’t next to each other. Granted I got an upgrade. However no cables or remotes for the tv. So it didn’t work. When they brought a cable only came on for 2 minutes then didn’t work for the rest of our stay. Was lucky we were heading out most of the time.

It appears whilst I had a soft service each day of my stay nothing was ever topped up. I had no shower gel for the entire stay. The washing machine not working was a disappointment but I will say thank you to the Front Desk Team for offering to wash and dry and return it to me Free of Charge. That did help a Lot.

Recent reviews had rated the property in a dim light and here are the facts

1) Reception was helpful and responsive (you will see its consistent)
2) Make sure you book/arrange parking when you book or you risk having nowhere to park. Also the onsite parking really doesnt suite large vehicles - so travel small
3) The property has overwhelming smells of air fresheners - possibly trying to mask other smells or lack of ventilation
4)Television was broken - we didn't bother to report it
5)The unit was supposed to be a self-contained unit ,but the dishwasher was broken - and you could tell it had been out of service for a long time
6)The shower was dirty and full of mold - unhygenic and disgusting
7)The bed was missing legs, so if you sat on it it fell over
8)Beds had no mattress protectors and no fitted sheets
9)Booking for 4 people - Towels for Two
10)A sofa bed was advertised - but there wasnt one

The place was fairly clean overall - and some of the bad reviews rung true

We didnt pay a fortune, so is it a case of you get what you pay for? Noting that other people have raised the same issues and the usual \"Thanks for your important feedback\" type response and then no apparent action seems to be the reality.

I even pre-empted things by messaging the hotel before we came - but no such luck.

The team there is super friendly and helped us at the drop of the hat - perhaps management needs to focus on getting the place up to scratch (its advertised as a 4 star, 3 stars at best)

The property was secured by both a 24 hour front desk and a key locked internal and external door, so I didn't feel unsafe in the property, but I didn't feel safe being out past 8 or 9 at night without taking a cab back to the property. This should be considered when booking the hotel. It's a very handy location to town and busses.

In saying that the room was huge, the beds and bedding comfortable. Good access to electrical ports and lighting. Furniture was a little damaged.

The hotel info said that there were instruction manuals for devices which there were not, and that there was daily housekeeping, which there was not. I did not pay full price for the venue, so unsure if this was expected or not. There was not communication around it either way. The TV didn't work but this was not critical for me.

I was fine with this experience for the cost, but i would not have been happy with this experience at full price.

The room is large and spacious. It is quite basic but has the necessary facilities. Staff are wonderful and accomodating. 24 hr reception is good and they dry your clothes for free. I don’t recommend the hair dryer so take your own. Beds are comfortable. The area is fantastic and so close to the sky tower. The stay was incredible value for money. Parking was cheap and available.

I would not stay here again. Our room had a washing machine you could not use, no dishwashing liquid, no dishwasher tablets, you couldnt adjust the shower head, the shower pressure was useless, the extra bed we paid for an extra guest was very very poor, 3 out of the 4 legs for the couch they fixed/attached/were ply wood and the bedding in one bed had a stain on it.

The staff were nice, it was close to shops, Queen st and a 5min walk to the sky tower

I had stayed at this property for 14 days and within the time I stayed there the service was terrible. There was no cleaning, i had paid for parking but still unable to get into my parking. I'm extremely disappointed as I had paid alot to stay here and the apartment was not cleaned daily and was met with alot of issues.

My room didn't have a TV. Unbelievable. It was sold as having one.
You can't book a carpark because as the hotel says they only have a few parks so its first come, first served. What a crazy system.
I did get an assigned car park, but when parking it was taken. Back and forth to reception to get it sorted, Shambles is a word that springs to mind.

The good: The property was mostly clean (touched on later) with decent amenities and plenty available around the location.

Being right in the center of the city was really awesome, making it easy to find places to eat or things to do, which helps considering there is no food available onsite.

The room had its own washing machine and a dishwasher which were nice touches, but unused by us. 2 sachets of washing machine powder were provided.

The parking was nicely sized, with a good amount of room available, but only 7 total parks available on a first-in-first-served basis. These cannot be booked in advance of your stay.

The bad: The room we stayed in had multiple broken tiles in the bathroom and kitchen, making it dangerous to have no shoes, or even just socks on, in the room. There was also a lot of missing grout in a lot of the tiles, and some times were lose underfoot.

There was no dishwasher powder provided, so we weren't able to make use of the machine.

Our parking was cancelled on our cards by the second day, even though we had purchased parking for the entire stay.

When the room was serviced we had less towels. No bath mat, no face cloths, no hand cloths were replaced and we had to request these from reception. These were delivered quickly to the room however, so service was great when issues were brought up.

Our shower had red fungus growing in the seals, door and silicone. We requested some cleaning products to remedy this, which were provided.

Great stay, everything was good. Except when the elevator stopped working and we got stuck inside for 30 mins. On board phone did not work when we tried calling for help. Had to ring from personal phones, and was eventually rescued by local firefighter service. So other than it was great.

Arrived and found the was an issue with my booking, Navya was very helpful bu upgrading my room. I also needed an extra night which was organised without any problem. Great convenient spot to stay in the city close to all amenities & restaurants. The rooms are very quiet & front of desk staff are very friendly & helpful. The Hotel Room was very spacious & has a very fully equipped kitchen including a dishwasher. Bathroom also comes with washing machine & dryer with a nice added touch. The hotel room could do with a better deep clean as the corners of rooms had built up dust & dirt. With the floors needing better attentive care for the upkeep. TV wasnt working well with half of the TV having lines (Staff need to be more attentive to rooms for next check in) & we paid an extra person fee but only got minimum towels. Overall, it was a cheap local city place to stay & id happily stay there again as a lower end budget.

We arrived about 7 in the morning and asked if we could leave bags there. Can't check in til 3pm.

The receptionist was amazing he checked to see if room was ready and allowed us to take our bags to the room, freshen up after 27 hrs flight and even gave us recommendations for breakfast.
We will definitely stay here again when visiting our family.

The room we were in smelt like cigarettes, we had no plugs that worked by the bed to charge our phones and the lamp did not work either. The bathroom had no body wash or shampoo & conditioner as well. The last time I stayed at the hotel it was stunning, all power sources worked and had a very pleasant stay. I won't be back for a while.

Had to wait 15 minutes at reception before anyone attended. No instruction for the lifts or entry to rooms. No contentional breakfast supplied as per advertised. Faulty connections to TV and no signal or reception.

I had two bookings, three nights total, I reported my room was not clean and had a broken dishwasher (no cleaning items) to the front desk three times and in writing during my stay, The response was there is no Manager available until after we checked out. After putting my complaints in writing housekeeping came and made beds and emptied one bin and left towels - they did nothing about the mess in the bathroom reported day 1, left no toilet paper it was empty, left rubbish in the other bins, the leaky kettle, boogers still on the wall and tomato on table (both there before our arrival) and left all the dishes next to the broken dishwasher and nothing for us to clean or dry them with. After reporting it all again in writing they came and washed the dishes and dried them with our face cloths, banging and crashing in the kitchen making us uncomfortable for reporting it. Terrible service and no apologies or refund offered, not even a message from the Manager when they came in the next day.

The price was very reasonable for 1 night.I think there meeds to be sone updates, like tge sink in our room was cracked, not a little 1 a huge 1, the carpets were dirty the curtains were broken and the drainage in the shower was very bad. The outside was a little dirty.. But I am happy to say the staf wete georgous and very welcoming.

This property was old and rundown. The walls had stains all over them. The AC didn’t work. Opened the windows, but the sound outside was extremely loud. Even with the windows closed, the sounds were still present though more muted. Parking cost an extra $30. Recommend using that money and springing for a better hotel just 1 mile down the road.

I recently stayed at VR Auckland City Hotel, and unfortunately, my experience was far from pleasant. They offered me a room on the 9th floor , upon entering the room to my surprise the room was not cleaned and it was all dirty leftovers left by the previous occupant. Then they offered me another room on the 2nd floor. The bathroom was cramped, with poor water pressure in the shower, and the amenities were very basic for the price.

The Fan was broken and the TV remote had no batteries

The staff was not particularly helpful or friendly, I expected much better quality and service.

Overall, I would not recommend VR Auckland City Hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable, pleasant stay. It was a disappointing experience, and I won’t be returning.

Issues with the aircon meant our apartment was like. Sauna. When we told reception she didn’t really care, maintenance had a look and he didn’t do anything either. Freezer also not working and the shower needed a bloody good scrub!
