Checking in, we encountered lack of customer service from the young gentleman who served us . We felt we weren’t welcomed into the hotel, Instead of checking the system properly . He had given us one key for one room when I had booked 2.

The second room is gave us Room 705 . There were so many issues with this room, including the broken AC I had complained to the receptionists thrice about this issue & I was not given another room yet any further support other than the words “I’ll reset the AC” knowing it wasn’t working at all from the time we checked in (3pm Saturday) to the time we checked out (10am Sunday). I was finding it very hard to sleep knowing there were no air circulation, very hot and stuffy in the rooms without the AC .

Our toilet paper holder was no where to be found, we had toilet paper just sitting on the toilet & the room smelt like pure chlorine it gave my sister a migraine . No further action was provided to these complaints .

We arrived around 9pm to check in and were asked for a credit card and photo ID. Without warning, the receptionist scanned and photocopied both my passport and credit card, which immediately raised alarm bells. When I questioned it, she said she’d delete the scanned email, but I found the whole thing very concerning and unprofessional — there’s no reason to copy full card details instead of using a secure chip-and-pin system.

The air conditioning in our room was also broken. Despite calling reception three times during the night, we were told it was controlled remotely and they’d try to fix it, but it never worked. The next day, with the room temperature sitting above 26°C, we called again and were finally moved to a new room where the AC worked properly.

The area around Queen Street felt a bit rough at night, with quite a few homeless people about, though that’s not the hotel’s fault. We did appreciate being offered a free late check-out until 11am, but overall, this wasn’t a pleasant stay. I wish we’d read other reviews beforehand — seems we weren’t the only ones to face AC issues and other unusual problems here.

The concierge made things quite difficult when I arrived. There was a cold acknowledgement of my arrival and instantly I was met with scepticism as to my belonging there. I was clearly judged on my appearance. He demanded my physical identification and when it was clear that I had none, he offered no other option but to deny accomodation. After a while he decided that a photo of my ID would suffice but by then I was already deflated. The room \"looked\" nice, but there were no robes, no slippers as promised in the offer. We had to cook our dinner in the oven because there was no frying pan. When we asked for one, they sent this up with an employee who told us not to use the oven because it's not good👀. When we asked why the range hood wasn't working he said that it only works when you use the job, not the oven. Next things there's a loud hum coming from the bathroom and when we enquired about that we were told that it only made a sound because we had the range hood on. Lies. That humming sounded all night and disturbed our sleep. Absolutely disappointed! Worst stay in a long while. And I've stayed in many different places!

I like VR Queen St as it's close to a bus stop, entry is flat and accessible with a walker. My room was very clean and serviced daily. 3rd time I have stayed there.

great layout, big room with sitting area, big bathroom & a kitchenette. they even give you dish soap & dishwasher soap, because yes, there's even a tiny dishwasher in the room. great location. we stayed here for 3 nights at the beginning of our trip, and came back for the last day of our trip.

great room with a kitchenette. even had the world's cutest little dishwasher, and they provided dishwasher soap, as well as dish soap for hand-washing. There was sufficient dishware for our needs. The room was very spacious, clean & comfortable.

On hotels.com side - Wasn’t entirely clear which room I’d booked on check in - pictures that had made me select my stay didn’t quite match what I was given sizewise, but staff were able to help and room was lovely. Beds super comfortable, and plenty of shops and eateries near by, with an easy enough walk into town

Good central location near University, close to Pier and downtown, is walkable (10-15 minutes), bus stops are also nearby. Was clean and front desk was always staffed. We stayed during off season, so noise was not an issue, but if the street had lots of noise, it might be an issue for some

The air conditioning power and user control needs improvement but I noticed a bunch of fans sitting in the hallway so I suspect they're aware of the issue and doing their best to resolve that. We simply brought one into our room for the night. Also, the body wash ran out in the shower which was a bummer. The king bed was actually two single beds pushed together but we found that to be really comfortable, we both had such a good sleep. The lady at reception was great. Overall, for the price, we were happy.

Place was great. One thing I didn’t was that two beds were pushed together to make one, which made the bed not the comfiest. Overall pretty good location, about a 30-40 minute walk to the viaduct and there’s lots of food options near by.

Everyone was really friendly and helpful bar one staff member.
Also do be prepared to pay a ‘damages’ bond on check in that you will be refunded after your stay.
Overall a convenient place to stay for a couple nights for the price.

I was very disappointed with the fact that I had to ask for so many things that should have been there In the kitchen area the oven had no instructions how to use it also their oven tins for cooking with, on the hob their were no saucepans or frying pan. Their were no oven gloves to lift things out of the oven. When it came to a few bits of washing up their was no liquid or mops or drying up cloths. I also had to ask for a tin opener. Two days before my departure I booked a car to take me to the airport and an early morning call for 6 am The night before my departure I checked with reception that everything was on their list for the following morning.Fortunately I arose early but their was no call to my room as requested. The whole experience was a great disappointment

Clean, central, one staff member a bit rude.

A nice hotel in a central location. Clean, small kitchen available in room. Check in staff person was friendly. Later on, we were locked out of our safe and the evening staff person was not happy with us (kind of rude) saying she couldn’t help us at the moment as she couldn’t leave the front desk, but no was there at the time. We were leaving early in the morning and I went down an hour later and then she came to help (no was at the desk at that time either). She made us feel like we put her out and then she talked down to us about not using the safe.

Near top of hill on main road into CBD, so easy 15/20 minute walk to CBD/waterfront but take bus or taxi to avoid walk up hill.

one of the female receptionists were really not helpful and kinda rude, I checked in the evening at 3rd Jan 2025. I was struggling with the WIFI as it was connected, but can't access the internet. The log in screen popped out only on the reception area, but not in my level (level 3). When I was trying to talk that to the receptionist, first I have to wait 2 minutes before she hang up her mobile phone and stop giggling. Her phone conversation, from what I heard, seemed a private/random chat. And when I explained to her, she said \"OK, come down to the receiption area and use the WIFI there\". My god, does she realise the customers books a hotel nor for going to the lobby to use the hotels' WIFI? She also said, \"talk to the receptionist tomorrow when I am not in charge\".

The second day when I talk this WIFI issue to another male receptionist, he solved the problem by just resetting the router and he literally described what the issue is and how he can solve the problem.

I was disappointed by the beds, they were supose to be double bed, but it was just two single beds stuck together and was very uncomfortable. The spec was much smaller than expected. The shower was disappointing as well, the shower head was very outdated.
