There are no plates or bowls spoons or knives. the TV did not work when we arrived the shower curtain is far too small and short Consequently the water goes everywhere. the apartment needs to be decorating. It looked old and well used.

The property had no kitchen facilities - 2 wine glasses, 2 glasses and 2 cups plus a kettle. No plates or cutlery. Very tired decor and the shower door didn’t shut properly. It was a clean room and comfortable bed.

The resort is a bit run down. The floors squeak when you walk but the worse thing was the bartender. He was making \"jokes\" about gullible Americans. He knew we were from America and the jokes weren't funny. We found him to be very rude. Otherwise, the staff we encountered were okay.

Despite the age of the facility Accor Wairakei Resort is still one of my favourite hotels in NZ.
Always a pleasant greeting from professional staff.
Location is perfect for travelling as is 12 minutes drive north of Taupō so you are ahead of other traffic first thing in the morning.
BP is across the road for fuel etc.

While the staff was great the property is tired. The carpet in our room was thread bare and ripped. The A/C in one of our rooms was non functional and the water shut down for a period of a few hours one afternoon.

We were in a large, ground floor room in the Tauhara wing. Lovely big room with
lots of space and a pleasant outlook. Only negative was it was opposite housekeeping and they wete noisy. Would stay here again but in a different room. Lovely pools, grounds and outlook.

Clean room, great amenities! Kids enjoyed the basketball and tennis courts. We all enjoyed the heated (very warm) pool. Park like setting, but close to downtown Taupo and all the tourist destinations. Loved our stay! Would recommend!

This hotel has had a real uplift since the change in management. Everything feels a bit cleaner and fresher, and the staff — especially in the restaurant and the cleaning staff— are incredibly friendly and welcoming.

The restaurant itself has a lovely, refined atmosphere, set in a space with a stunning timber ceiling. With continued upgrades and refreshing of the facilities, this resort has the potential to become a truly top-tier hotel.

The villa was not as clean as I would expect.

Extra bed that I requested was terrible and I didn't get a good night's sleep at all on the pull out mattress. Really not what I expected and what was displayed on Hotels.com site.

Staff was very friendly, but the request to provide a better bed fell on death ears and I didn't get any rest.

We had heavy rain, and the front door could not be accessed without feet being soaking wet. This is due to the guttering not being maintained.

Other than that the pools were nice.

I won't however recommend this and if I could will request my money back.

Long awaited trip and rest didn't turn out as I have planned it.

The room was clean but in tired condition and needed refurbishment. Stayed twice in a week in different rooms (we had booked both stays ahead), both had similarly tired furnishings. We have stayed here in previous years, there are other rooms that have newer furnishings. The difference isn't made clear in the room descriptions but on reflection, the price is probably indicative.
No airconditioning/heatpump to cool the room. There was a ceiling fan which we ran on the low setting all night when sleeping; this was adequate during our stays.
The sport facilities are great - a nicely heated swimming pool, tennis court, basketball hoop, gym and kids' playground all in good condition, not forgetting the golf course too. Good for a quick run to the prawn farm and Huka falls too, if you're moderately fit.

We've stayed here a lot over the years but this will be our last. The rooms have always been run down but the facilities made up for it. This year even our kids got out of the pool as it was so gross and dirty. The food selection was minimal and expensive. The staff were great and friendly though

Where to begin? I suppose we start at check in, why not? We got lucky and pulled up before it got silly. There were only two employees there - Inese Lords (more on her later, a little light in a dark place) and another older woman. I was grateful to miss the rush, as we had plans an hour later, but it was the first clue that this \"resort\" (and I will continue to use these intentionally disparaging quotes, because it's crystal clear that Accor's idea of a resort is an eternity away from mine and my wife's) was going to be an incredible disappointment.

My second clue was provided after visiting the bar and asking for a draft beer. The young woman there kindly (and with some deserved embarrassment) explained that I'd have to wait for her manager, since she didn't know how to operate the taps. No shade, it's not on her, it's on this property's atrocious management for staffing her at the bar with apparently zero training. Someone working with her attempted to help, but proceeded to fill a pint glass with ice before pouring, at which point I realized that I was out matched with ignorance. Fortunately, Mr. manager arrived and properly poured a pint (at the dear price of 16$NZD, what a joke!).

My third clue (and let's be honest here, the mystery was solved by now) was when we came back after dinner to find that our room (504 in the Wairoa room) had a busted fuse box! Every time we tried to turn on the lights, the breaker tripped, leaving us in darkness!

The room was very clean and comfortable. Staff were mostly friendly but some were not. Food was reasonably priced, although they weren't transparent with breakfast charges. They tried to charge for breakfast we didn't have. The facilities were good but the pools needed a bit of a spruce. Some things were overdue for an upgrade. Good value for money, overall.

The Thermal Pool was the only good thing.
King size bed with only 2 pillows, one extra in the cupboard. One top sheet and thin duvet you could spit thru, no extra bedding in cupboard. Air con was either hot or cold, nothing consistent. Fridge rattled and clanged all night. Room decor was tired. Too much door and corridor noise. Restaurant was pretty ordinary, unwashed side salad with no dressing. Most of the menu was deep fried offerings. Will not go back.

great pools, spas, tennis, squash, gym, great staff. what I didn't like so much was the very low and very soft beds, very small fridge that drinks rolled out of all the time, thin single-ply toilet paper, bulk soap and shampoo dispensers instead of toiletries, a microwave would be an added benefit too. but despite these things, the staff were amazing, and the overall facility was amazing too. I market it down from and 5 to a 4 because of those things mentioned, but the rest is 5 out of 5, all the way.
