What a wonderful place for a family to stay we brought our three kids and our granddaughter and we’re able to use the family suite on the top of building. The three bedroom apartment with a fully functional kitchen was fantastic for our family to relax and enjoy the city of Barcelona.

cleanliness and location, yes. our room was cleaned and towels where replaced everyday and the location is perfect, access to the train station and walking to most of the places. this is a budget hotel, if you are looking for one. no fluffy towels, decor sub par just a nice clean bed to go back too to refresh, elevator may or may not work. we had a power outage and of course our building has no power, but next door, accross, city lights, street lights, everyone surrounding has power except our bldg. need to update their pictures because it is really outdated. so it looks fancy on the picture but rely more on recent pictures by people who stays there. didn't do much on ours because we had the big construction in front of us, which we are already aware off booking this hotel. nothing new on that. hoping the update or construction going on, can make this building better. i had the city front, the view would be great if no construction

This place had mold in the rooms, absolutely nothing like the pictures. It’s a complete scam, I went to look at my room and left instantly and they refused to give me a refund. You could see cockroaches on the ground, I saw one and I left immediately I didn’t even care to argue for a refund I felt like it wasn’t even safe breathing the air in that building

At the time we were there, they were doing work on the facade, so there wasn't a balcony view as such, and the workers, while discrete, were present outside our window. This hotel is in a great spot for getting to lots of cool stuff. That also means that it's in a popular area where lots of people are, so you take the good with the bad. I would love to see it once it's renovated.

Staff were rude, when asked to have toiletries the staff said this was not his job. They assigned me to a bedroom I did not choose since they were overbooked. I barely slept. The second day we were transferred to the type of bedroom we ordered. This bed had flies that bit me throughout the nights. Horror stay.

The location is great for Barcelona. It is right in the Catalunya place. Transportation is right outside.
We wish the windows would block more of the outside noise. There were concerts in the square every night and one of them went until 2 am on a Tuesday night. We sleptterribly that night. The elevator needs to be faster and larger. We ended up taking rhe stairs most days.

Solid destination, as it is right by Las Ramblas, so there is access to shopping centers, restaurants, and the metro. The front desk was super nice and welcoming and are willing to give out recommendations for checking out the city. Even though the place is right by las ramblas, the rooms are secure behind thick walls, so I didn’t hear a thing outside. Overall, terrific hospitality!

Great potential, but a long way to go

The hotel's stuff is helpful and friendly. The rooms are clean and the location is amazing, right by Las Ramblas. However, the hotel desperately needs a renovation. The elevator only fits two people and is very slow which can lead to a long wait to get inand out, especially with luggage. The rooms are not very nice and welcoming, the windows don't open, the floor is visibly old and the portanble air-conditioning is so abnoxiously loud to the point it's difficult to sleep with it on. The plumbing is so old you vividly hear the bathroom and showers above yours when trying to sleep. There is no lobby, you walk into a short hallway leading to the reception desk and elevator. The outside wall of the hotel is under construction so there is no view of the city at all from the only window at the room.

This property is in poor condition, smelled like urine and smoke and sewer back-up. I booked via Travelocity only to arrive and be told that my room didn’t include a bathroom. I ended up paying an extra $15 per day for a toilet. The room was tiny, Every time you exit you must turn your key in to the front desk. Stains everywhere, weird and slow elevator, otherwise 125 steps to the 4th floor. Buyer Beware!!!!

The property was clean, the service was good, it was in a good location and was safe. This place is for those who appericate a clean room with no frills. There was construction on the front of the building and was unable to open the windows. It felt as though we were in a cave. We were lucky to have a room with a private bathroom.
This is basiclly a glorified hostel, with s hotel price. Google the name, it will come up as \"An Un Assuming Hotel\".

The only two good things were the other staff members who were really cheerful and tried to help… and the location which is really central.

The staff were super friendly. The room was very clean. We were given a very good recommendation for a restaurant- excellent tapas . There was an issue with the door lock and it took a day to fix, but they were very responsive and dedicated to making sure I was satisfied. I will stay there again next year

Got to the hotel early and asked to keep my backpack in their storage room (with other peoples luggage) until check in time. They allowed me to do so and when I came back to check in and all of my luggage was stolen. There is a camera in front of the room which the receptionists claimed was off. They didn't do anything to help me retrieve the bag. Don't stay here.

The location of this hotel is fantastic. Quick access to metro and buses and plenty of food options within a couple minute walk. That said, it is a very busy/active area, if you are looking for quiet area this is not the place.
We had a wonderful visit. Checkin was great. Staff helpful with suggestions on places to see. Checkout super fast.
The rooms are a little tired. Some of the tile and details need a little tlc. Appreciate the in room ac it helped sleep cooler at night.

There is no parking if you want a hair dryer you have to go back to reception every time

The most unbelievable is a big cockroach in my room.
And the they notify me that exterior wall renovation is on going .

To stay or not to stay again?

Excellent location. Right in the heart of city Center.
Room was a good size. Staff were very friendly and more than just helpful. Common area was large and used by some of the guests.
The building is covered with mesh and scaffolding meaning that the balconies are not useable. Unfortunately that was one of the main reasons for booking this hotel.

Perfect! The cleanliness and friendliness, despite being an old building was just awesome. I loved the authentic charm and the chill vibe along with the BEST location in Barcelona. Plus, I was steps away from the most delicious vegetarian restaurant… Teresa Carles. If you are looking for a modern and swanky hotel, look elsewhere. But if you want an efficient room that meets all basic needs in a superb location, stay at Hotel Monegal.

I had a very bad experience that could have been made right … I have travelled the world extensively over the last 50 years and this was one of the worst customer service issues I have ever faced. In the end, the hotel only marginally made the issue right. They should have refunded the premium I paid for what they did not provide!

I wanted, and paid a premium, for a room with a nice view. When I arrived, I found the hotel being restored, and my “view” blocked by the restoration. The hotel realized they had failed to inform me. I had travelled for 24 hours and arrived at 17:00, and decided to work to resolve the next morning. I looked on line, and a internal room was 40pct less than I paid. The hotel only offered me a 20pct discount. But I wanted a view. They offered me a full refund on the remaining three nights, but not a discount on the night I stayed, despite the room not being what I had paid for. So not only did I have to find a new place and move, taking significant time out of my limited vacation days, but I ended up paying a premium for a non premium room.

They said they would process the refund but did not; two days later, I contacted Expedia, and in 10 minutes the refund was processed.

I am due a 40pct refund for the night I stayed. This hotel deserves the lowest rating for failing to meet their commitment.

We enjoyed our stay.

The location of hotel is perfect, very central, within walkable distance from all major attractions and entertainment.
The hotel is unfortunately under construction and the view is restricted by the tarmac. Saying that, it still has a beautiful view of Pl. Catalunya as it’s a see-through. We stayed on the top floor and can even see La Sagrada Familia. Our room had a long beautiful balcony as it’s a central room. Yes, the hotel itself is very old and it needs a proper refurbishment inside and out, but it didn’t affect our stay, we definitely enjoyed it. However, I would highly recommend to buy some ear plugs as it’s quite noisy outside due to the roadworks.
The real credit to the hotel is their friendly reception staff, who accommodate all your needs! Thank you for your everyday smile! :) The hotel also has a small lounge and a kitchenette on the 3rd floor with a view on Montjuic (beautifully illuminated when is dark), with tables and chairs where you can eat your food that you can warm in a microwave. You can borrow an iron, a kettle and a hairdryer at the 24hr reception. The bathroom has some toiletries and towels. The hotel is also offers a free luggage storage service.
Don’t expect a 5 stars hotel, but it’s in a very convenient location, with a great staff and definitely has a lot of potential.

We had a great experience. Mom and son trip. We felt safe. Many of the things we wanted to see were at walkable distance. Metro was five min, taxis across the street.McDonals right next to us, Starbucks less than 5 min, subway across the street and many more options. I had my doubts because many people warned me about pick pockets at the Rambla st but I felt safe. I had my phone on a lane yard, my purse shoulder cross. The people at the check in and che out were friendly, and they helped with directions. All around my son and I had a good experience.
