The start of the stay was unfortunately not good. The water heater was not working; and we all took cold showers. And I had booked 2 Queen Size beds for my room; instead I got 2 Full Size beds in a super small room! I complained; but didn't hear back.

To my pleasant surprise, the next day the hotel fixed both the issues! I was provided a big room with 2 king sized beds. The heater didnt work well immediately; but did start working from Day 3.

Now for the good part... the location couldn't have been better! Everything is walking distance... literally 50+ restaurants within 5-10 min walk. The hotel is an old heritage mansion, with 3 beautiful courtyards, 2 swimming pools, and a jacuzzi. The staff is simply fantastic! Special callout to Hermom at breakfast service and Giovanni at frontdesk. My daughters wanted to go salsa dancing one night; and when requested, Giovanni personally went with them and dropped them off!

Stay here... even if it's a little on the pricier side.

The hotel is overall very nice. Our stay was pleasant however we had to switch rooms on our second night due to some issues (noise, TV not working, shower drain blocked). Something to note is that only the rooms on the newer, left wing of the building have openable windows and therefore natural light and ventilation.

Fabulous stay in Cartagena

Hotel Bantu was a fabulous home base for our visit to Cartagena! The staff provided a friendly welcome, and I appreciated their ability to speak with me in English and assist with local recommendations. The property is beautiful and inviting (as well as safe!), including a lovely daily breakfast and a comfortable, air conditioned room. The location was fabulous, walkable to key locations and many restaurant options nearby. I highly recommend a stay at Hotel Bantu.

The property was beautiful and tranquil. You would never you were in the middle of the historic center because it was so peaceful and quiet indoors. The staff were attentive, polite, and very pleasant. We loved Arnold and Jovani and the front desk! The decor and ambience of the hotel was exactly as we wanted and very authentic. Some opportunities were the daily breakfast: the options were very limited and the food is left out and unrefrigerated the entire time in very hot weather. I did not feel comfortable eating or drinking things that were warm. The spa experience was good, although it was more of a room with a curtain than a spa. My therapist, Gina, was lovely but there was nowhere to put my clothes. Also during the massage, you could still hear the music from the rooftop as well as some of the workers. It would have been nice if they were notified that clients were in session and should not be disturbed. Other than that, this was a perfect location and a beautiful experience! I will definitely return to Cartagena and Hotel Bantú!

Beautiful property with absolutely amazing and welcoming staff. The breakfast here was phenomenal, and the pool was a great escape from the heat. The hotel is located on a quieter street nearby everything that you would need - convenience stores, highly recommended dinner spots, and lots of rooftop bars. We would definitely stay here again!

Hotel Bantú was BEAUTIFUL, a work of art every detail of the hotel and our room was so beautiful and added to our stay in Cartagena. We are so happy to have booked our hotel with them in the heart of the walled city. We were in a great location, close to a lot of great bars, restaurants and shops. The included breakfast was delicious, coffee and water available all day. They have a locked gate that requires you to be buzzed in. The staff were so incredible with us, they were helpful with places to go, booking excursions like a guided tour on a chiva and a boat to the private islands of Rosario. They also allowed us a late checkout due to availability, and kept our bags at the reception while we continued to explore and shop. We had the best time at Bantu, and will definitely be back.

The hotel is located in a very quiet street, fine, dining, casual dining in a street food places are at a walkable distance. There are shopping options all around, It is also close to museums And five minute walk to Serrezuela mall.
The property conditions are excellently maintained, water pressure is great on shower, room has a TV and Breakfast has many delicious options.

I would give this property 10 out of 10 stars if I could. The staff was beyond helpful, friendly and eager for us to have an amazing experience in Cartagena. They were helpful with restaurant referrals as well as a day trip to the Rosario Islands. Breakfast in the courtyard garden was sublime. Encantador. Cerca de todo y a su vez alejado del ruido. Zona colonial antigua divina cerca de restaurantes buenos y no muy lejos de getsemani tampoco. (Se puede ir caminando). Varios espacios comunes amplios y hermosos, decorados con gusto y calidez, en un ambiente auténtico colombiano. Personal muy atento. Desayuno muy rico. Habitación suite amplia linda y cómoda. Recomiendo evitar las habitaciones que dan a la calle. Y atención en la elección del hotel con los espacios comunes en planta alta o baja. En el caso de Bantu cuenta con hermosos espacios comunes y pequeña pileta en planta baja y planta alta. Pero el calor en planta alta hace menos factible el disfrute de los espacios. Priorizar en la elección del hotel! Bantu es perfecto!

This hotel was perfect for us. From the minute we walked in we felt welcomed. All the staff are so pleasant and amazing. I was there for my birthday and they surprised me with a delicious cake and song in my room. It felt special. The hotel is beautiful and so relaxing. Breakfast was delicious and there were many options but the typical Colombian food was our favorite. The location is perfect and you can walk to just about all the tourist attractions and great restaurants. We will definitely be back soon.

Great continental breakfast. Lots of choices. Great service.
No ceiling on the bathroom shower, so you’re exposed to all the elements. It rained a lot while I was there , so rain came in. The mini bar/frig is well stocked. Nice pool, but I didn’t use it.

I will preface this review by saying I ultimately cancelled my reservation and did not stay overnight. Upon arrival around 4:15pm I was told my room wasn’t ready as they let a large group have late check out (check in time is 3pm). I was asked to wait 30 min so I sat in the lobby. As I waited a very large group came in and half were escorted directly to my room. After 45 min of waiting I had to request an update from staff who seem to have forgotten I was waiting. I was then taken to a room by a busboy without being told room number or given the key. When he realized I didn’t have a key, he left to retrieve it and that’s when I looked around. The room was tiny without any windows. The door to hallway was beautiful but did nothing to block out sound and the nail in the coffin for me was that the bed was wet when I sat on it. When I alerted the staff member he tried to explain they used some spray on the sheets but either way a guest should not be given a room with a wet bed. At this point there were enough things flagging that I decided I would be more comfortable somewhere else. When I told staff this and requested a cancellation they tried to offer a different room and then a different hotel in their network all together. I appreciated the gesture but after all the waiting I didn’t want to play musical hotels and decided to return to another hotel I had previously stayed. I think perhaps this hotel could be good if you are younger or want a more hostel like environment.

This was a beautiful property which was located within the walled city, very convenient to numerous shops and restaurants. The property itself was really remarkable and very well maintained, with the exception of a leak in the roof in our bedroom suite. The leak was not excessive and did not affect our use of the room, so it was not a big deal for us. The staff were very friendly and eager to help, especially German. There were two swimming pools and a jazuzzi, and the stay included a really lovely breakfast. Plus, the rooms are very well air conditioned! We would definitely stay here again.

The staff is excellent and very professional.
The location is very convenient because is in the downtown area and close too everything.

The roof pool was small with no shady areas; I’d love to see them put into use the small pool bar (abandoned) to create a more welcoming and family fun haven. The first night they have us a room with window to the street and it was too noisy. We changed rooms and it was perfect.

Checking was a little slower. Arrived at 4:00 pm and they have to check several times to make sure the room was ready. Also, Expedia should mentioned the documents required for checking in for minors. They are requesting passport and the stamp from immigration as well as vaccination records. Thanks I did have records digitally but at the beginning the staff wanted to see originals.
Other than that the hotel, staff, rooms were amazing!

The hot water was not working for three rooms, but they checked us in anyway and we were not informed until we found out on our own. We couldn’t take a shower during our stay. Ridiculous for an “upscale” hotel that is charging premium prices. When we asked the hotel to give us a reimbursement, they told us that only Expedia can do something about it. No ownership or accountability. Disappointing to say the least.

They over booked this property and insisted I stay in some random hotel across town. As a solo female traveler to South America, I put a lot of research and thought into where I was staying. I was already a little un-nerved about staying at Bantu. And after arriving and carrying my suitcase for blocks they informed me that they were over booked. With NO advance warning. I insisted on a full refund. They sent me an email (completely in Spanish), stating they refunded Expedia. I am

Very nice hotel. Tranquil and great attention. Jose was spectacular. Maria and Casey were great. Just an amazing staff. The food was great. Breakfast buffet generous with good variety. Room service was fast and delicious. One gripe was the jacuzzi seemed a little dirty. AC worked well in bedroom but the bathroom didnt have any which I didnt mind. Overall very relaxing and pleasant.

Beautiful property and the pool is a nice touch, the staff are all super nice and friendly. Check in was a bit of a pain and we waited over 2 hours to check in.

This hotel has it all. Great location, service, Awesome Restaurant unique rooms and a Historic setting. If you stay you will not be disappointed. We tried to stay longer but they were booked.

The bed was extremely comfortable and had six fluffy pillows (most hotels don't have good pillows). The location was good and the staff was very nice. However, my room had no window and was very very dark. Also the bath towels were scratchy and by the last couple days of my stay I was getting bath towels that were dingy gray and had holes.
