This is my second time staying at this establishment and I can honestly say the staff is well attentive to guests needs even during new ownership and renovations. They keep the hotel clean and safe and are always available to answer any questions you may have. Alfonso and Andrea are the perfect duo with an amazing team supporting them. I really enjoyed my stay at the Ethnic Thematic Hotel. The vibe is different from the typical tourist hotels—it feels cultural, colorful, and full of personality. The staff was friendly and made me feel right at home. The rooms were comfortable and had that unique local touch that makes you feel like you’re actually in Cartagena, not just passing through. The location is perfect too, close to the action but still peaceful enough to relax. If you want a stay that feels authentic and memorable, I’d definitely recommend this place.

The room HAD NO WINDOWS. How is this even possible safety wise? Not even possible to know to time of day. Perfect location but stay away if you don't want a no window room. It was not mentioned in the room info. This is an issue. Personnel super friendly but the physical aspect of windowless rooms is not acceptable.

This was an affordable option within the walled city. However the room was much smaller than I imagined and there was no soundproofing. If you are not staying up until 2:00-3:00 am and like to sleep this place may not be for you. Sounds like the other guests were in our room and hearing other have sex is an awkward experience. Some street noise, but mainly from the other guests. No window in the room was a surprise as well.

My Ethnic Thematic Hotel review
I found the Ethnic Thematic Hotel to be a well run hotel. The location was close to everything. The wi-fi signal was strong. The bathroom was small and the shower was tiny and the water never got hot. The water was warm but not hot. The room was cleaned daily. The room safe was large enough to fit my laptop and it's operation was interesting. The room had a refrigerator. The TV stations were local so there were no English speaking stations. Breakfast was a 1.5 block walk and I found the breakfast fulfilling. There is a sister hotel in Bocagrande that has a pool and is available for your use. I enjoyed my stay there and I would recommend this hotel.

This property is in the heart of the action. Great staff and friendly. There are vendors immediately outside of the building. However, they’re just trying to make a living. So I try to spend $5-15 to them just support. The room is nice. And the bathroom is small, with hot water not as consistent. However, I’ve stayed 3 nights and will stay again. Good place to stay whether solo like or in groups.

This is my second time at the property it’s a great place in the the center of town close walking everywhere. There is a safe in the room, card access into the hotel and staff at the front desk. The only downfall is if you don’t want to party don’t come there cause the clubs are right across the street and you can hear the music all night long.

Excellent place to stay within the Walled City. The location is perfect! Shops, restaurants, and nightclubs all in walking distance. The free breakfast is not on site at the hotel, but it’s about a 2 minute walk to the cafe where it’s served. The staff was very friendly and attentive to anything I needed. The room was very clean, the bed was comfortable, and the A/C worked without any problems. The bathroom however was a little tight, but I was able to manage. The only problem I ran into is there is no electrical outlet in the bathroom. I definitely plan on staying here again on my next visit to Cartagena.

I couldn’t stay in the room. A very strong scent of black mold was present. I checked in, got my access card and room key, looked in the room, and after smelling mold, I never went back until the day before checkout, where I checked out early so I wouldn’t have to go back there the same day of my returning flight to the United States. You can verify with the people working. They will confirm that I never stayed/slept there. Records on the fob access card will also show that it was never used either. I am highly allergic to mold and it was impossible for me to stay in the room. I told the female receptionist when I checked out the reason (mold) why I was not able to stay there.

This tiny hotel (and I mean tiny lol) is actually in one of the BEST locations within the walled city! Right outside its doors is ALL of the hustle and bustle of this historic part of Cartagena. Everything is within walking distance (the clubs, bars, restaurants, KFC, Subway restaurant, currency exchanges, ATMs etc). On the inside of the hotel it is relatively quiet BUT the rooms away from the street are like little prison cells meaning NOW WINDOWS! So it's a tiny room with a tiny bathroom, a bed, a tv (with no cable lol) and a functioning AC unit (thankfully). The in-room safe is just for show as it doesn't work. If u are in room 7 or 8 you will be disturbed by the front desk persons' conversations as that are is literally in front your doors. So if they are on the phone or playing their music or have friends hanging with them it will be like they are in your room hanging with u! If u are a light sleeper, this hotel is NOT for u. Also there is basically no privacy. U cannot lock your door from the inside. It locks when u close it but anyone having a key can just open it and enter as the door chain doesn't work lol Anyone outside will also hear everything going on in your room. So in summary, it's a clean hotel (except for the overwhelming smell of cigarette smoke left in the room by previous guests), ok staff, some of whom speak ENG. No elevator only stairs. Strong wifi but it went down on my last day there and never came back so that sucked.

This is centrally located in the tourist area of Cartaegna. It’s a great starting point! You’re close to everything including tour offices, restaurants/bars, shops and can walk everywhere.

I liked the location and the customer service of the staff. When I arrived i had to be relocated to another hotel in boca grande because the hotel had no power. This costed me several dollars transporting back and forth to the walled city. The following day i just so happened to be walking by ethnic thematic hotel and the power was restored so i was able to move back in. It was a major inconvenience but i made it work. While I was at ethnic, there was no hot water for my shower. I took the good with the bad. Location and staff were great.

If you’re looking for the best location, it’s hard to beat. That being said, the rooms look way worse than the pictures. The walls are full of stains, the bathroom smells horrible and the shower’s drain was blocked. And obviously no hot water. The staff isn’t very friendly, the place is just cold. It looks like a dorm. But, the location is great…. So it all depends on what you’re looking for.
