Smaller size rooms but very comfortable. So glad windows opened & were constructed well to keep busy street noise down. Close to a lot of things to eat & see.
Had a waterfront room & enjoyed watching the bay activity & the lighted bay bridge.
Will recommend to friends & will choose Hotel Griffon again.

I can’t rate the amenities or cleanliness of the hotel as they cancelled my reservation. But I can rate the staff and the manager as being horrible. Although I called twice and asked to speak to the manager the week before my arrival to inform them that I would not be arriving on the day I was supposed to however would be the day after due to business changes, they took that as cancelling the entire reservations although I never said the word cancel once in either conversation I had!! Nice listening skills from the staff.
If the manager Ann would have returned my call as I had asked this wouldn’t have happened. But she chose not to.
This is horrible customer service. As much as the hotel may be a beautiful place to stay. I wouldn’t waste your time god forbid you have some sort of issue that you would need a manager for.

Great location. Surprisingly quiet for an SF hotel. Staff super friendly and helpful. Room had a nice shower and a reading nook. Just beware the super mushy spring coil mattress and enormous, firm pillows. I slept ok, but your mileage may vary. Would stay here again if I was in the city for anything going on near the south end of the Embarcadero.

I booked a group of 6 rooms for business and the staff charged all first nights to the booking credit card instead of everyone’s individual cards, creating an expense report problem. One of the desk staff didn’t understand the problem, a second staff member passed the buck to the hotel manager claiming he couldn’t help. A third person (Sammy) understood the issue and tried to help. Hotel management eventually helped resolve the issue, but there are staff training problems that must be addressed so this doesn’t happen to other guests.

I loved the hotel, the design, the location, the restaurant, and the people who work there; they were very attentive. Perhaps the only thing to improve is the bed; the bed was sagging. Besides that, everything was excellent!

I have stayed at the Hotel Griffon many times over many years, and it continues to consistently stay the same. It's a little gem of a hotel in San Francisco and it is always a pleasure to stay there. Room rates are competitive, it's very conveniently located, the staff is superb, and I've never had less than an excellent experience at this hotel. Can't say enough good things about it!

This is a smaller boutique hotel with all the amenities you need and an outstanding location! The staff was great in the hotel and at Perry's across the hall. We had a great time walking through all the shops at the ferry terminal and strolled through the financial district and Union Square. Our view of the Bay Bridge was amazing and we'll definitely be back.

The only reason I’m giving it 3 stars is for the comfy bed. The lack of parking and the accessibility was bad. But I guess it’s San Francisco. Access to lobby from parking was not ideal for me. Parking was very poor. If I would have known this I wouldn’t have stayed there. The bathroom shower head splashed water everywhere even the toilet and floor. The staff checking in were clear as to parking and lobby access to get to my room. I don’t think I will stay here again

Location was perfect for activities near the pier and ferry rides. The area felt safe. Lots of places to eat including one restaurant right in the hotel and others in the same building.
The room was small but perfect for solo travel and clean. Shower head had great pressure. Also had a larger than normal fridge and a filtered water refill station in the lobby. The luggage storage was convenient and allowed me to venture out into the city to kill time before my evening flight.
There were no windows my room, so rent a room with a view of you don’t like to feel claustrophobic. That would have been the 5th star. Otherwise great stay.

A very mixed experience. Rooms good for price - slept well - but most guests may want different pillows than the super firm and huge that are their standard. Because my review time is limited I’ll get to the point - while a few of the front desk staff were great (Sammy and Glady - not sure of spelling) several others not good at all. No one seemed to work longer than a few hours, several were curt and made no effort to be helpful or provided wrong info. Example: it was raining so I asked front desk if they might have umbrellas and was told no. In fact each room has an umbrella, but I was just checking in and didn’t find umbrella until after I needed it . Staff should known this

Worse was rudeness - about 10.30 on Feb 12 I asked front desk man about travel to airport and was told to look up on Internet myself All I can say is that at most hotels certain questions come up every day and front desk should offer some assistance - perhaps with caveats for some uncertainties. A travel tip.- the $25 amenity fee gets you stale croissants if you come at say 9am because they don’t replenish after first setting out. Lastly I note for anyone who likes to swim laps - there is a fantastic 25 meter pool. This alone would make me go back - but knowing that there are some problems that the hotel could fix without even spending much money - care in hiring staff, some training, freshen up the breakfast pastries etc.

Location! Location! One block from the water, easy to walk to the ferry building and up and down the waterfront. I stay here quite a bit. The rooms are always immaculate. The beds are comfortable. The water pressure in the shower is good. But most of all the staff is always very pleasant to deal with.

Our room was very clean and comfortable! Staff were super nice and helpful too, and the location was fabulous. I wish we'd had more time to make full use of amenities like the gym. The only things I'd like to see to make this a perfect spot are a microwave in the room (but yay for the fridge!) and a wider range of complimentary breakfast options. Thanks Hotel Griffon!

Arrived to check in early evening and no one at front desk to help. Waited for ten minutes and tried calling but no answer. Room very small, odd smell, floor super slanted it could make one dizzy. Walls paper thin. Little to no natural light, windows are distorted glass. DirectTV was nice. Location fantastic.

Had to call for the front desk person in order to check in. He lacked in customer service skills. There was no fee information nor was I provided or offered a receipt. I presented a different card for check-in and stated twice that I wanted to use a card that was not on file. He swiped my card, but nothing showed up on the card reader. At home, I checked the charges and the room was put on the card I used for booking the room. There is also a very high $200/night deposit hold on top of the room charge. When I inquired why it's so high, I was told so we don't trash the room. There is no parking and off site overnight parking was not easily found. The hotel is renovated, but quite old. The floors in the room slope badly. Rooms are very small, but have what you need. I would not likely stay here again.

This is a very nice hotel and its location is awesome. You are basically at the Ferry Building and within walking distance to lots of things to do. The restaurant Perrys is connected and has elevator/stair access which is super nice with great food and a lively atmosphere. The rooms are quiet and very clean and nice. They do have a water filling station and ice machines but no in room fridge. I would absolutely stay here again!!!!!

Instead of just giving us another room as we already had one for the first 3 days of our stay. They decided on their own to check us out thus releasing the 200 usd they kept as deposit (which will take 14 days to show up in my account) and then they took another 200 usd deposit for the new booking.
The new room they gave us was in front of the elevator and it was terrible. Whoever was coming or talking or making sound was fullly heard in the room.

Perry’s restaurant makes too much noise you can’t even sleep.
The hotel has secret charges that you need to be very careful. 25 usd for coffee that doesn’t always exist and some pastries that if you give them to your pet it will not.touch them.
Instead of helping the visitors coming late in the hotel with some parking slots so they can go and get some rest they urge them to go to a private parking which is the most expensive around the area by far (100 usd vs 35-40usd).
In conclusion not a good choice.

Hotel Griffon is conveniently located across from the pier and surrounded by some good restaurants. Just be prepared to pay at least $38 a night for parking because there is no parking on site. The room was clean but small, we didn’t have any view. A couple of negatives during our stay was, the TV didn’t work and the elevator wasn’t working the night we got there.

The breakfast was a few regular pastries that you can grab on your way out to a real breakfast. I called ahead and asked for an early check in. I actually received an email offering it. When I arrived I was told a previous guest had a late check out and the room wasn't ready. Staff seemed really indifferent, unapologetic and basically said \"oh well.\" The room was so so, sofa bed uncomfortable. No parking on the premises. I won't be staying here again.

It should be told upfront that you might not get the room cleaned. When coming back to the room at the end of the day finding the room had not been cleaned, was a bit unnerving. Did choose to get clean towels and forget the whole room cleaned. This went on for the 3 days.
Had to request to have the room cleaned until leaving. Was not informed that a request to clean the room was needed shouldn’t that be a requirement everyday. That information should have been told at check in.

Clean but a bit tired. Very thin walls, you can hear everything in the hallway and other rooms (like a baby crying at 1am). Direct access to the rooms through the restaurant mae it not so safe (anyone can wander in) and evening staff who checked me in was not friendly:(. And no window unless you upgrade (window opens to central air vent which is shared with restaurant.

Place is eclectic but feels like Harry Potter Hotel. Elevator stopped working the first night. People are very friendly room is clean but very old updated but still very old Floor slant one way and then they also slat another way so when you’re in the bathroom, taking a shower, the shower door just stays open, but if you look past everything it’s kind of cool And it’s clean and the people are nice

The hotel was super cute. We had a comfortable night here! Modern retro, comfortable lobby, I was upgraded to a suite. Great room with a living room that was large and comfortable bedroom. The star was that it had a deck!

I couldn’t give more than 3 stars because there were a few negatives. Biggest negative was there’s no valet parking and no parking on site at all. Also no room service. Other Negatives were a very small bathroom and inflexible policy for late check out. I was denied an additional hour as they only allow one person per floor a courtesy.

We’d consider staying again if our schedule aligns.

Old drafty rooms. Room was directly above the restaurant on the warf side, which is a nice view, but someone came to riffle through the restaurants recycle bins, and was throwing glass bottles from their bins into the back of a truck for hours in the middle of the night.

This is a really nice place. It's a 1920's era hotel in excellent condition so the rooms aren't large but they're definitely adequate. All sorts of dining, shops, the ocean, and a trolley line are in walking distance. The trolley stops at all sorts of attractions. The hotel staff is very pleasant, efficient, and accommodating.

The location is perfect for Embarcadero walking and FiDi nearby - that's basically the only plus.

The stink is noticeable in the lobby and bad in the room. In the elevator you feel asphyxiated. I didn't mind the tiny room because they were pretty clever arranging everything. Only one outlet in the bedroom; it's an older building. The bathroom fans are loud - especially in specific acoustic spots at the sink and shower. The staff try, but I think they know what kind of place they work.
My room keys stopped working at 10am, even the new key reception gave me didn't work so maybe it's a suddenly wonky electronic lock?

Next time I'll try elsewhere.
