Convenience store right next door and an historical hawkers food market only 4 mims walk away with over 80 different stalls.
Marco and his team are friendly and polite, the facilities are well maintained and the for Singapore it's good value

Overall very clean but the bathroom/shower area had a bit of mildew in the grout. Understandable considering the humidity in Singapore. No window which made it very hard to tell what time it was. The location was fantastic with it being very close to a hawker centre and next door to a Cheers convenience store.

Recommendation: Search for another hotel! You will not get lucky or satisfied in this one.

Hotel is close to a an Underground station from where you can go to the City that is really good. The hotel is really a basic hotel. Reception is really small and all the hotel is really old-school and the furnite not the newest one and also not in the best condition.
The room is really shaby so it does not feel clean. The room is smelling bad and not healthy. In the bad there is a mildew (mold / mould) in the bad that is really unhealthy and discussing.
The biggest problem was the not working shower. Even after 2. attempts to sort it out with the receptionist there where no change.So i had to book myself a new hotel to get a shower.

This is a no-frills hotel in a quiet suburban section of the city. The famous Tiong Bahru Market with the huge selection of eating vendors is just a 5 min walk. The area has become increasingly gentrified for the expatriate community. Besides local eateries there are quite a few cafes or bistros for this community. The premises is clean and relatively newly refurbished which is a plus point. However, there were no mini fridge or a closet like other Hotel 81, and the oft criticism of this chain hotel rooms being used by the hour for adult purposes was quite evident on this property. It is in at a dead-end street and is quiet and secluded.

This was a last minute booking after Travel cancelled our reservation at the 11th hour.
The hotel was gerenally good but the was a few areas of cleaning that was needed like the window ledge was very dusty. Also the shower needs a proper cubicle so that the entire toilet area is not wet after someone has a shower.
The management and staff were very helpful and accommodating.

Great hawkers market down the road for a big cheep breakfast or lunch with the locals. Located in a slightly more suburban area with less tourists so better vibe plus lovely helpful staff and 24 hour convenience store underneath run by a really friendly fellow. Rooms are not big on western standards but normal for Singapore and great value. If you have a ton of luggage may be a problem though. Everything was clean with nice crisp linen on a firm but good mattrice and WIFI worked fine. A bit of a walk to MRT but good for us to burn off all of the wonderfull food we consumed. We walked to China town several times and even did a big walk to Gardens By the Bay via China Town and the CBD but opted to catch the MRT back. If you do not do walking the MRT is about 400m away so will need to consider the bus or taking a Taxi either to the MRT or your destination. Taxis are reasonably priced and honest though.

I think I would say typical for Singapore large enough for a bed and little space around it. The bath room allows for the 3 S’s of male grooming with little to no movement. Nice and quiet in an old part of town, food was not difficult to get, and the atmosphere in the place was pleasant.

Rooms are a bit small, but liveable. It can be noisy during the day as the cleaners are around, however very sleep-friendly at night.

While the facilities and WiFi were good, the beds are the worst beds I have ever slept on in a hotel (and I have stayed at many hotels so I don't say this lightly!). They are hard and covered in plastic, which makes the sheets slide off. I had a terrible sleep and was happy to check-out after 2 nights. Also the air con cannot be turned off manually, only can adjust the temperature which was annoying. However, the foodcourt and restaurants close by were good. If they can upgrade the beds I would rate it average overall.

the bathroom is terrible, tiny and ill equipped.
the staff stole my universal adaptor then lies about it.

Whilst handy having a shower on the toilet, not really practical.. Plastic covers on bed make it impossible to keep sheets on the bed. The bed softness is similar density to concrete with a yoga mat. No soft furnishings make it very loud.

I travel to Singapore regularly mainly for business. I normally stay around Chinatown and pick an economical hotel in that area. I read the reports and reviews on Hotel 81 Osaka and they read well so I booked there for a week. I was terribly disappointed and consider their indication of the hotel is certainly misleading. Location is good being in one of the older districts of Singapore but the quality of the room, facilities etc. leaves a lot to be desired. I certainly am one patron who will not be going back there.

Hotel 81 Osaka is located about 4-5 km from the center of the city but the cab ride is relatively cheap of under S$20 including tax etc. it is about 3mins walking distance to number of restaurants from selections of Italian, Chinese, Japanese and cafés, which are all just around the corner. Delicious Chinese congee for breakfast, pizza and pasta fir dinner and Italian gelato fir dessert. The firont desk was attentative and is open 24hrs.

Unwilling to control rule-breaking guests

I understand the challenges of running a hotel for guests with a very wide variety of cultural and economic backgrounds, but Hotel 81 was very unhelpful when asked to enforce simple rules like no smoking. With the design of their ventilation system, smoke in one room quickly spreads, yet hotel staff seemed unwilling to confront rule-breakers for the sake of the comfort of other guests. This was disappointing, even if understandable.

They also had serious problems with maintenance - a faulty smoke alarm went off in the middle of the night and it took over 12 hours to stop the incessant and loud beeping.

You can't expect too much with budget hotels, but I've stayed here many times without issue so these problems were unpleasant surprises to me.

Room tiny with en suite wetroom , no cupboards, wardrobes or hangers, hence nowhere to put your clothes, had to keep them in my suitcase all week, and nowhere big enough to open the suitcase flat other than on your bed! No iron available either! No lounge, no dining room, no pool, literally just a front door a small reception area and your room. It was clean but the bed covers had cigarette burns in them and the sheets had holes. The mattress was really hard and covered in a hard vinyl/plastic. The sheets were not fitted and just slid off the vinyl in the night so you woke up sleeping on the plastic itself! Wi fi was unreliable and kept logging you out. after logging in 5 times it locked you out for the rest of the day! Staff were polite and helpful but never moved from behind the reception desk. Air conditioning was good, but the room had no opening windows.

Clean budget hotel with terrible beds

This hotel is reasonably well located with about a 10-15 minute walk to the orton park metro (subway) station on the edge of Chinatown. The train from the airport will take you to this station after changing but not if you arrive after 11.30pm.
There is a small variety store just 2-3 doors away which is open 24 hours.
On the same block about 5 doors away is a very good bakery/restaurant which is great for breakfast but they do not open until 11am.
The staff at the hotel are very helpful but when we arrived at after midnight I asked the desk clerk if there was an ice machine as I was having an achilles tendon problem.....no there wasn't and when I asked if the all night vartiety store had ice she replied no. The next day I went into the variety store for something else and discovered they did indeed have ice.
The guy running the store was nice enough to let me store the opened bag if ice in his freezer as there is no fridge at the hotel.
The bed mattress is made of plastic so that after the slighest turning during the night the sheets ride up leaving the plastic exposed making for an uncomfortable nights sleep.
Singapore is an expensive city and this is a budget hotel but I would not stay here again mainly because of the issue with the bed mattress.

This was our 2nd of 4 hotels that we stayed at during our trip to Singapore. Previously we stayed at the Fragrance Hotel Viva and as I said in the review for that hotel it was bad. This one though was pretty ok. The price was the same, around $95, which is about the cheapest you can find for that area of town. It was smack in the middle of China Town too which was great because there are tons of great restaurants you can go to if you like Chinese food. It's also just a short cab ride away from several malls. The cabs in Singapore are cheap too so it's not a big deal.

The hotel itself was much cleaner than I thought. The lobby was big enough for you to sit down and not feel crowded by other guests checking in or out. The rooms were tiny, of course, but very clean. They all had a Japanese flavor to them, hence the name of the hotel. The bathroom was tiny with the shower head placed in front of the toilet. The TV was bigger than most hotels of that size and got more channels than the TVs at Fragrance. The only thing I didn't like (other than the size) was the leather like coating on all the mattresses. They didn't use fitted sheets so the bottom sheet slid around a lot and got out of place.

Overall not bad considering the price and location. Prefect for the budget traveller and if you don't mind small spaces.

I must say the hotel is centrally located in a quiet spot and within easy reach by bus and subway from famous area like China Town, City, Orchard Road and Marina Bay Sands. Eating out is not a problem as they are only a min away. The room floor though is a little bit not clean with sands left behind during my whole stay. There is not even a bed side chest for putting small belongings. Overall, It is a pleasant stay with well response hotel staff. I will still consider next time compare to the price.

A nice little hotel quite close to the MRT light railway station at Outram Park (400m) so very easy to get around from here.

The hotel is only a few years old and so still in good condition. My room was quite small as expected - enough for a double bed and space to walk round it but not much else. My room had a small cupboard for a single suitcase, a Wall mounted tv and a tea point. The bed was firm but ok.

The small bathroom contained a basin, wc and shower head and is \"wet room\" style ie the bathroom <is> the shower cubicle, and everything gets wet, but the towel rails and toilet roll holder are high enough to stay dry. Those used to a shower recess with curtains or screen should go barefoot, but it dried out quickly.

Check in is 2pm which won't suit early arrivals but the staff let me keep my suitcase in a small room until I could check in. The small reception counter was staffed round the clock by one or often two people, even very early in the morning. They were efficient and professional. Not overly friendly but that's not a criticism. They are approachable and helpful if you need them otherwise they just leave you alone. They lent me a plug adaptor and made a phone call for me. Room staff were quiet and left the room tidy.

The bad: the a/c was stuck at 22C - ok during the v.sticky day but at night got a little too cold. Tv reception was bad. No restaurant but a small 7/extols next door and several restaurants just outside and a local food hall is just up the road

its clean and convineance.. but too small. overall good. dont mind stay in this hotel again
