Hi. The hotel does not deserve its stars; it is old-fashioned (but that doesn't bother me). It's just dirty, with peeling wallpaper and dirty walls. The non-smoking room smelled of cigarettes, and the air conditioning was not cleaned, so it smelled bad.

Breakfast was okay, but the staff were loud and argumentative with each other, making it difficult for hotel guests to eat breakfast in peace. On the other hand, the beds were very comfortable.

The location was great, the staff was nice, the beds were comfortable. The breakfast was ample, but only 'okay' not amazing. I thought the price was pretty reasonable all things considered. My room had no view, and was small, but not terribly so. In general I thought it was a good place, and if it hadn't been rainy/cloudy I think the view at breakfast would have been quite nice. One thing I did note was that the room breakfast was in was in a very family-style setup and many of the tables were quite huge. For anyone traveling alone or with only one other guest, it can be kind of awkward if you don't get one of the few smaller tables.

Good location, if you don't mind older style rooms

Room is showing signs of aging, and be aware like most hotel beds in this part of the world, they are quite stiff.
Location and view is hard to beat though for the price as well.

They do have a shuttle bus to the nearest MRT station, but it's a 15 minute walk otherwise which is fine for most people.

Passing hotel with fantastic breakfast

The main reason we picked this hotel was due to the proximity to my parent's house. Everything was in working condition, but the hotel definitely shows its age and doesn't seem to be updated much. It still leverages physical keys (instead of key cards), which I haven't seen in hotels in a while. The light fixtures in the room was losing some of their paint. The caulking around the sink had mold on it. The wifi was barely useable. But if you are looking for something basic, everything works including the AC.

The best part of the hotel is the breakfast. It is a very full spread with a mixture of Asian and Western breakfast items. You also get a fantastic view from the restaurant on the 12th floor.

Firstly,we stayed 2nights at this hotel’s new suites, overall is quite ok except for bitten by bugs,we guessed, because one of my husband ‘s leg was full of very itchy red spots and some on my leg too.btw the worst part came when we moved to old wing (due to full house of new wing while we need to extend). As a double room, it is small, old , seems like dirty dusty and moldy, dark..still using a key to open instead of access card, simply like last century.Bathroom is very small, stained bathtub etc.definitely not worth to pay so much for this kind of room.

3 nights at Riverview during New year eve...

The location of the hotel is just at the river side. You can enjoy the beautiful river view during the breakfast on TOP of the hotel. It is also within 5 minutes walk to the 西門町. The hotel also provide shuttle bus to MRT station every 1/2 hour.
But the hotel looks a bit old and still using door key...!

Room furniture is a bit old fashion and the overall appearance was further degraded by the dirty toilet in which there are so many dark spot on the toilet wall. Bed is sagging and very flat pillow just make you uncomfortable for the whole night.

We stayed here for 7 nights in total. Hotel feels more like a 3-star hotel rather than a 4-star hotel.

Quite disappointed initially because the toilet is so small. Rooms are not soundproof and this Chinese family woke us up one morning as they were talking loudly along the corridor. In the end, I had to go out and tell them to lower down their volume (Super annoyed at that time).

Hotel is about 10 to 15minutes walk away from Ximending but quite a distance from Ximen MRT. Shuttle Services are available but requires 30minutes before reservation.

Quite little equipment in the fitness centre but all equipment are in good condition.

Staff are friendly, welcoming and polite.

No doubt that the Hotel is kind of old, rooms are kind of dusty but it is still a good budget stay. Will probably go for other 3-star hotels instead next time :)

No consieige service, front desk people are rude

The front desk people are rude and not helpful. We arrived before the 3:pm check-in time. I need to make a local call to order a car for going to the airport the next day. The refused to make a call for me, but tell me to make the call after I checked in or use the pay phone. I don't have the local money for the pay phone and this is such a simple request that they turned me down. I will not go back, nor recommend any of my friend to book this hotel. It is far from the subway station and is not conveniently located.

When we first checked into the hotel, they gave us a wrong room which is new and big and bright. When they found out that they have given us wrong room, they wanted us to move out - this to a small and old and shabby room. The bathroom is so small that they have to put the bathroom floor towel and bath towels together on top of the toilet cistern! Not very hygienic, right? The sink area is also small, cannot put any toiletries.

When we were having breakfast on the 12th floor, the staff would gather together and talk loudly and do not give a care about guests eating there! This is so irritating.

Will definitely not be going back to this hotel again.

Clean and convenient hotel. Quick check-in and easy upgrading of room. Staffs are all very kind, helpful and friendly too. They even provide free shuttle service to the nearest XiMenDing Station every 30 minutes. Convenient stalls and local hawker stall and shop also very closed to hotel.

2nd stay was disappointing

Stayed at Room 1112 initially and found bites all over ourselves. We suspect bugs in the premise (bed bugs or other insects) after a day stay and informed the front counter. When we got back in the evening, the front counter said that they did not find anything and HOPED that we will not get new bites. Unsatisfied with the uncertain tone of the counter staff, I threatened to stop payment for the hotel bills. It was then he promised to get us a new room.

Room 807 was in no way better than Room 1112, in fact it was a downgrade! The top portion of the wallpaper looks like it was soaked in water and the room was way smaller than the previous one (smaller tv, smaller bathroom counter, no temperature switch for airconditioning, tv with hazy channels etc). I decided to just take it as I just wished for no bed bugs/other bugs.

Bad gym, not good enough for a 4-star

I stayed here for a total of 6 nights, and had my room changed from a run-down room at level 4 to a better one at level 10. Generally satisfied with the rooms and the service, but not with the Fitness Room. All that was functional a single threadmill in the nicely furnished room. The other three equipments (yeah they only had 4 equipments) were non functional and the pedals/handles even dropped out when we tried using them. In short, please do not say you have a gym room when it is barely one.

Smoke gets to your room

We had 2 rooms on the 11 th floor. In the middle of rhe night we could amoke from other room guesta smoling.
I think main land chinese love to smoke in the middle of the night and they do mot comply to the no smoking floor rule.
Walls are thin and can even hear the door open and close next door.
Air con does not isolate the smoke when others in the floor smoke .
what a waste to a very decent 4 star hotel .

As we expect this hotel rated themselves as 4 stars hotel will have good facilities and good services, but overall we thought the room photo showed on the website are exaggerate, that we arrived at the hotel room and was disappointed us. Although we call to front desk to ask and check about the room, they stated the room we choose will be smaller than others as we booked the room through the Expedia. It's ridiculous. Under this situation, the hotel staff still couldn't change the room for us.
Apart for the room, I would like to appreciate the executive housekeeper whom kept apologize to us and send the fruit for us as amenity.
Therefore, we would not suggest this hotel to others and will not come again.

They take series for client's booking as they have already kept a room when we check-in. However, if they can provide a better late check out time would be better as my flight was at night so I asked for a late check out to 14:00 but they just delay to 12:50 as usually at 12:00.

I lost my passport in the taxi from Taipei Main Station to the hotel. The front desk staffs help me locate the taxi driver by reviewing the security camera, and worked with the Taipei police to track down the taxi. A big thank you to the hotel front desk staffs for getting my passport back.

We landed in Taipei at around 8:30pm, and ended up at the nearest station, XImen Station, at maybe like 11:30pm. We were worried that they wouldn't let us check in after midnight, so we were kind of in a hurry to get there. We showed up at about 11:45pm, and the staff was completely nice and understanding.

One of the staff has pretty good English, and the rest seemed to be good enough to get by (better than some of the other locals, but not great). They always greeted me with a smile, and were very friendly.

The room was larger than I was expecting. Our bed was basically two twin beds pushed together. The room certainly felt a lot cleaner than the town around us. Sometimes the shower drain was a little slow, but sometimes it wasn't... I'm not sure what makes the difference.

When we checked out, we asked them to have a taxi to the airport ready for us. Since we don't speak Chinese, they got a taxi all lined up for us, and had the fare already figured out, NT$1200.

the room was great. My daughter and I had an executive twin. The breakfast buffet was great. I loved the steamed vegies fro breakfast and hot soy milk plus the fresh fruit and other items so anyone could find a good meal. I think the absence of a gym is a big problem when you are supposedly a four star hotel. It has been closed a long time time I found out and is not just temporarily closed. I also had a hard time contacting the hotel. I wanted to arrange a shuttle from the airport. I called and emailed and never got a hold of anyone. I also left my toiletry kit in the bathroom and I won't bother to try to call them for it. Some of the staff at the front desk does not speak english well and we were sent on a wild goose chase from bad directions because his english was not good but he pretended to understand. I was skeptical because he didn't seem to understand but there was no one else at the desk at the time to ask either. Very clean rooms though and I loved the location. Night market was very fun and near our event venue. If they fixed the gym and picked up the phone or answered emails, I would have been satisfied.

Terrible & feel cheated experience stay

Booked a double twin. Feel cheated when checking in the room, as the room sizes not according to what as stated in the web,only 230sf instead of 323 sf. The merely put in a double twin bed in a single room.

Very old hotel, room look old as well, aircon don't seem to work, make a complaint but issue never addressed. Not a 4 star hotel as stated.

Front desk staff was not helpful atall during my checking time and also when we file a complaint. Citing no senior around to handle my situation.
Four of us have to put a night in the super small room. No Chioce as we had paid the money to Expedia.com .

The manager also didn't come to see us at 9am as promised. Only see us after numberous complaint made. And offer nothing except telling me that they will give a discount? So unprofessional n insulting for him to think that money can solve everything.
Only after we demand a change of room and he reluctant to change it for us.
File a complaint to Expedia for providing wrong info n contain element of cheating issue but after 3 days also no news from expedia.

Is a very bad experience for me in taipei due the Expedia wrong information. Thanks to Expedia for my bad experience.

We stayed in this hotel for 5 nights. We are highly satisfied with the hotel services provided by the staff. The hotel is very clean and tidy during our stay although the hotel is rather old.

However, the breakfast is not very delicious but in fact we could find various good breakfast nearby so it does not matter to us. The main problem for this hotel is, it is far away from the train station and it takes about 15 to 20 minutes for walking.

Generally speaking, we like this hotel.

Stayed for 4 nites. Hotel a little old...think they nd to do some renovation soon... it only took us 10 mins to walk to Ximending shopping district, so that makes it okie to stay in this hotel again^^ as its quite convenient. As for breakfast... can't make it... or should i say not to our liking... hence we go out eat breakfast daily after trying for the first day. The service was okie... but one porter, he's very attentive & always never fail to bid us farewell when we go out or greet us when we return. He will rush to get the lift ready for us & bow when the lift door is closing. That definitely leaves a very good impression to me & my family ^^! With some renovation^^, I bet this will be a even better hotel to stay^^!

Every was great except for cigarette smoke that you have to endure during the night when inconsiderate people smoke in their room or common corridor despite the no smoking rules in hotel. The hotel could place very stern warning in the room and possibly install sensitive smoke detector to trigger alarm when cigarette smoke are detected.

The hotel is about 10 Mins walk to Ximen Subway, I was rather disappointed with one of the front desk staff (Sunny Chung). I wanted to go to a place with is not walkable from their MRT, so I seek her help to check for me which is the nearest station so that I could take a cab from there. I even gave her the shop name and seek her help to check. Initially her first response was, (is really far and there is no MTR nearby, just take a cab from the hotel without even bother to check). I was rather disappointed with her service and request to speak to the front desk manager, she immediately help me check online. Indeed there was a train station nearby. Her face was very reluctant to help which I am rather surprise given taiwanese were very helpful and nice people.

Another incident, I requested for a morning call on 13 Dec @6.30am but it didn't happen.

The hotel looks old on the outside as it has been around for quite sometime. However, the rooms have been refurbished before and it has the typical hotel standards, clean and comfortable. The room design is very basic and it is not trendy or modern. Air-con is cooling enough and the toilet flush is very strong that you can hear the toilet upstairs flushing. Walking distance of 5-7 minutes to Xi Men Ding where shopping is cheaper to Shilin night market. Breakfast is provided, typical hotel breakfast offerings in Taiwan, considered not too shabby. There is a breakfast shop behind the hotel is you feel like having something different and local in taste.

Three girlfriends - found hotel great!

The hotel had three single/twin beds which was what we wanted. The room was clean and worked well for our purpose. We enjoyed the daily buffet breakfast which kept our energies fueled for our Taipei adventures. Had problems with cigarette smoke on the floor, but the staff readily installed air ventilators to dissipate the smoke smell I'm the halls.
Only downside is the service at the ground floor restaurant on our last evening, when we decided to have a \"quick\" dinner before leaving for the airport. The service was super slow, except for when we asked for the bill. Otherwise, good experience!

The staff service was polite.but the hotel was pretty far away from ximending at first I thought it was near cos of e reviews but when we walked with my family n kids it was quite far! At least 10mins! N it was so hot !! E hotel was so dusty that I actually nearly had a asthma attack n I couldn't take it that I had to book other hotel on my third day of struggle at night .i told e manager that e room was very dusty that I almost had my attack n having difficulties in breathing but he couldn't care less as I asked for a refund as we checked out 3days earlier.we shrugged his shoulders and said no we couldn't refund u if u want a refund ask from e online operator that we bought e rooms from.i was very unpleased with his service n response.but I really couldn't stay any longer cos my breathing was getting worst.esp at night slping in e room.after I checked in into ECFA it was perfect! I got my breathing smoothly back n recovered after e first night stay,as I was

Good and friendly sevice but the room is small.

The service is good but the room is too small for us. We like the service and kindness of the people in the hotel. If the facilities may be much better, it will be better for us to evaluate this hotel. It's not too far to go around Taipei. I will stay again.

Excellent hotel with amazing service

This hotel was fantastic. The rooms are clean and the location is very convenient, close to many stores and the train station. The staff including the bellhops were so friendly and nice. They were always willing to help us with directions. They were also very polite in welcoming us every morning and evening.

Transfer hotel in the same day

Nice hotel with helpful and friendly hotel staff

Overall experience was good. Hotel was clean.
Hotel staff was very helpful to our queries and needs. Always greeting us upon seeing our arrival and departure.

The only disadvantage is the walking distance from MRT station (nearest Ximen) to hotel was alittle too far (my feel) especially after a tiring day with lots of shopping bags. Walking distance takes about 10mins.
Pillow was alittle bit too soft which makes sleeping alittle uncomfortable.

Staff was great service rendered was excellent.

Was quite disappointed when they changed my room from 11th storey to 6th storey, claiming it was an upgrade with 2 queen size beds. The problem is that I was alone. Staff was great service rendered was excellent.

Good service but terrible room cleaniness

Convenient place to live, near the station. Warm welcoming and good services of hotel staff. The room is old but comfortable. But the bathroom is pretty filthy and towels are dirt and have blood (really terriable!).

Hotel was a bit of walk from Ximending but nice part was the river view was spectacular. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout lobby and restaurant.
We have triple room with 3 beds which was nice though the room's condition was worn out. Slight noise as our room overlook the river. Overall, it was pleasant and acceptable for the price compared.

Very ideal hotel

I can say, I will return to stay with this hotel again in future though the room size is a big small, but it's acceptable for two persons, location is good near to Xi Men Ding area, staffs are helpful.
