We only stated a few hours as we needed a place to stay until the first train to Paris. It was very convenient to the station. The attendant was very helpful and even opened up the breakfast before officially opening to let us get some coffee. On the whole, my impression was that, while dated, it was quaint. The hotel was quiet and clean. Everything was very acceptable.

It was not made clear that it is impossible to drive to the hotel
It is only possible to get within a couple of hundred meters round a complicated one way system.
It is then necessary to walk to the hotel to get directions to the public car park to which they direct guests- a real hassle .
Not made sufficiently clear - there is a bus station at the front of the hotel so you cannot drive there. Hotel has tired furnished and was allocated a room on the 5th floor - lift only goes to 4th - it says it’s a 4 star hotel but I don’t agree.

Check in was fine & the staff are friendly.
The bedrooms are tired and not particularly clean ( stains on the wall & dust on the skirting) . Decor is not grand but cheap.

Convenient for shops, restaurants & parking.

This was a very convenient hotel close to the city centre for shops and restaurants. The underground parking was secure, is by the Train Station, & is conveniently right opposite the hotel.The hotel was comfortable, has large rooms and had a lovely large modern bathroom. There was also a superb terrace where you can enjoy a drink in the sunshine. The down side was that our room directly faced a high building wall, so although it was a bright sunny day it was very dark. We had also booked this hotel because it stated there was a restaurant. However, this was not the case, although it did offer room service. Staff were pleasant.

Spacious rooms close to the Tours railway station.

We enjoyed the spaciousness of our suite - very unusual in Europe. We got a lot of space for our money. There were a few details that needed attending to, such as not quite enough light when the drapes were drawn, and old chairs that were uncomfortable (but there were a couple that were comfortable), but it was possible to block out early morning light, and this is an important feature when you want to sleep in. The bed was huge and comfortable. My husband used the sofa bed in the sitting room, and it did not quite work, but it was comfortable when he put the mattress on the floor! Do not be put off by whatever construction is slowly happening in the foyer, and the resulting peculiar approach to the lift. This looks as if it is temporary. While the Grand may not have on overall luxurious atmosphere as it likely had in its early years, it WAS very good value. We used the train a lot to go up and down the Loire Valley, and the location was excellent for that. The area around the station felt safe, so no need to be put off by the proximity to the station.

We love a hotel with some history and charm. It’s a stone’s throw from the train station. After an overnight flight , followed by train travel, the location was a blessing ! We had a warm welcome and we were pleased with an unexpected upgrade for our room. Dining and shopping are close by. The bed was very comfortable. A great value !

This hotel is a 1- or 2-star hotel at best. The conditions of the hotel were awful. Our rooms were not ready when we arrived to check in and the rooms had not been cleaned in years. There were layers of dust on everything, everywhere. The front desk lady told me she would be cancelling my reservation, but I have yet to receive the credit. Please stop lying to consumers about this hotel.

We stayed 3 nights here as a base to visit the chateaux in Loire Valley, very convenient to parking, and walking distance to the Old Town.
We changed room as the first one given to us had a very tiny toilet with no sink. That’s pretty normal in France but since the shower was on the other part of the room, it felt a bit strange.
However, the second room was much better and quieter too. It’s also more modern and brighter.
Good choice of breakfast and friendly staff.

Old fashioned hotel right in the center of town right opposite main train station. We had upgraded ourselves to premium and room was large. The only chair was however too low and useless. Good sound insulated windows.
No own garage but parking is available under the main square in front of hotel at special rate of 8€ per 24 hrs.
Breakfast room slightly too small for the number of people eating and service was lacking a bit specially on the Sunday.

The hotel presents itself as a 4-star when it’s truly a 3-star. The wifi didn’t work in our room. The pillows were awful. On the positive side, the bathroom appeared to be recently renovated, but the decor of the room was very outdated.

This hotel needs a total refurb. It was old, scruffy and had no amenities. We were shown into the bar which was a dingy room that looked like a dump site for all the surplus chairs etc. In being shown to our room we had to go through a room full of bicycles. We were put into a room in the loft that did not represent the picture of the room that I booked. I would NEVER recommend anyone to stay at this hotel

Perfect location for train travelors

Great location! Can’t beat the opportunity to walk off the train and be at your hotel.
Our room was ready and even had an upgrade to what we were expecting. The outside is beautiful old world charm and even though construction was going on , it was still beautiful. The interior needs some TLC, parts look tired and extremely
worn out. The breakfast at an additional cost was very nice and a good value. Some little things need attention, like a missing bolt on the toilet seat, wobbly bathroom faucet and confetti outside our door for 3 days before it was vacuumed. The WiFi was very unreliable as well.
For the price we paid , it was a great value.

The young staff at the front desk is nice and helpful though she cannot speak English fluently, but still try to help us find the parking area. The hotel is located in the central of the city and close to restaurants, shops. However the room carpet smell as there's a lot of leakage along the perimeter of the toilet that make the carpet stained and messy. Hope the management do proper refurbishment and improve the cleanliness.

Perfect for trainers

This was our first stop on our vacation, having flown into Paris and then transferring by the TGV to Tours. We decided to visit this town due to it's location among the chateaux and wineries of the Loire. Tired from the travel, it felt so good to see the hotel from the train terminal. A short walk and we were in, able to catch a quick nap and later a shower before going out to tour Tours.
The staff quickly checked us in and explained the amenities of the hotel, and she was so friendly and smiling you couldn't help but feel welcome. The hotel is dated, with an old elevator and worn carpets. But it is clean and trustworthy. They do allow pets, and we loved it when one the dogs was waiting with it's tail wagging at the top of the stairs. We heard no barking or other disturbances while we were there.
The clerk gave us a city map and diagrammed a walking tour, circling her favorite spots. The parts of Tours we visited were close, and we enjoyed the cathedral and the town square. The next day we had a full day booked excursion, which departed from the Tourist Office located across the square from the hotel, another plus.
The breakfast was buffet-style in a bright room and left us more than satisfied for the day. And we were able to drink a glass of wine after our day in the bar on site.
If we return to Tours we would stay here without hesitation.

Good location but a bit dated. Service was good although one of our rooms wasn't ready at check in (3pm). Breakfast is expensive at €13 per person and the organisation of the breakfast buffet could have been much better. All staff were very friendly and helpful.

Great hotel, maybe our 14th visit. In the centre of town and beside train, bus and tram stations.
We have always had superb service and the junior suite gave us plenty of room for this trip.

City centre old fashioned comfort.

30 metres from the railway station surrounded by decent restaurants. Our room was a good size about 4 metres by 4 metres with a king size bed. Much nicer than the ultra new 4 star we left. Staff are very helpful and speak good English. Only thing missing was a refrigerator in our room. Unlike the previous hotel we had china cups and glass wine glasses in the room. In its day it would have been the grandest hotel in town. Now best described as shabby chic.

Great Hotel close to train and tram stop

We have stayed in the Grand Hotel about 10 times now and would highly recommend it. The staff are always very friendly and accommodating and this trip we were upgraded to a much larger room than we had booked. The hotel is beside the Gare SNCF and a tram stop but is only a few minutes walk from the main shopping area and the old town of Tours. The bathrooms in the hotel have recently had an update and the beds are very comfortable. Also the air-conditioning is superb. The breakfast is good with a great variety including hot food which is sometimes missing in French hotels.

Good potential but lots if improvement needed

Good check in with upgrade on room. Unfortunately, some issues downside the stay. Toilets really too small, no shower protection with water splashing everywhere, Wi-Fi didn't work properly and disconnects several times, queen bed is in fact 2 singles with 2 mattresses with different firmness. Squeaky floor. But breakfast was good and diverse.

A grand hotel in the sense of big.

The hotel was a grand hotel next to the grand railway station. It has lost some stars and most glamour since then. It is not a big tourist hotel. The rooms have been redecorated recently in a 30.s style. Our superior room was large with very good bathroom. Bed comfortacble. The rection was good and arrival and departure was efficient.
Beaksfast was chotic. the tables are badly laid out so its difficult to get to the buffet. The buffet is very badly laid out in a L shape with the toaster at the corner. This means people waiting for toas block the whole buffet. Its amazing to see this in a hotel. The food was typical and staff friendly.
the WiFi was very poor/unuseable even in the reception area.
You very much get what you pay for.

Great Art Deco central hotel

A pit stop in the Loire brought us to Tours. Great town for an overnight stopover. The Grand is a little tired but a beautiful Art Deco hotel with some wonderful features. We had a lovely big family room and bathroom. Parking nearby and central to town so perfect all round.

The location is good but the facilities are too old. Not very clean. I would not recommend you to stay here. Compared to the price, it's not worth. But if you only stay one night, it's convenient to railway station. You may choose it just because of the location.

Nice hotel, but far too expensive during the week

It would have been really OK if we had paid 100 or even 120 Canadian dollars. $CA100 is the rate on the weekend, but on Mondays (and other week days, I imagine), it costs $CA200. Really excessive for the quality of everything. People were very nice though!

Good Hotel for the Price

We arrived on a Thursday at about midnight after driving and visiting Chateaus all day - we were exhausted. We couldn't figure out where to park so we called the front desk and they explained that we could park in the Indigo lot for the train station close to there, and we'd pay at the hotel for a cheaper rate (8 or 9 euros), for 24 hours which was great. The man at the check in was very nice, and he gave us free wifi passes after we asked, make sure you get one for each of your devices you want to use.

The room was good - we got one of the middle-priced ones with the two beds pushed together. The only complaints were that we were facing the train station and it was quite noisy and bright in the morning (we were getting up early anyway so it didn't matter.) The bathroom tile wasn't flush with the bathtub, but it was clean and the decor was decently modern. There was instant coffee in the room, but we only had one packet of caffeinated coffee (and 3 decaf) in the morning, so maybe check that before you go to sleep the night before if it's important to you :) The soap in the bathroom was 3-in-one hand/body/shampoo soap, so if you need specific conditioner/shampoo/body wash, bring that yourself. We didn't have the hotel breakfast because we wanted to go get pastries in a local place, so I can't speak to the quality of that.

All-in-all it was a clean, no-frills place to sleep for a few hours. Would stay again for the price and location.

Great location, nice hotel

The hotel staff were very kind, accommodating and bilingual. The location is fantastic, near the train station, next to a grocery store, and around the corner or a close walk to restaurants and shopping. Also across from the tourist bureau and tour van pickup. The room was clean, comfortable and quiet on the backside of the hotel. The bathroom was also newly remodeled. I would recommend for budget travelers, and I would also stay here again. Amenities like in-room coffee, ice in bucket, and room service dining available upon request.

A Grand Hotel well beyond its prime date

Good central location across from train station with a discounted parking rate nearby of 8 euros. Our room was on the 5th floor and the lift only went to the 4th floor, so suitcases had to be dragged up a winding set steep stairs. Bathroom was great and modern. Room was very small, with stained, peeling wallpaper, gouged desk and chair. Hallways needed cleaning and vacuuming. No tea or coffee in room. Would not stay here again.

Very convenient location for train travelers (2min walk from Tours station). Very nice and helpful staff. It's about 15-20 min walk away from the city's main restaurant strip.
The only drawback is the poor sound blocking from the old building materials. That seems to be a common problem in Europe. Not a major concern, I would still recommend this hotel to anyone.

Le Grand Hotel - A very pleasant place to stay !

The hotel is an impressive building right next to the main railway station
On arriving the desk manager was very helpful and informative and made us feel welcomed . The hotel lobby is large and a good representation of the hotels atmosphere. Our room was a three person studio and was very comfortable and roomy , the bathroom being approx 25m2 !
Whilst our stay was one night , it was extremely pleasurable . I will recommend to anyone

A Grand Hotel indeed

Le Grand Hotel Tours is a once-grand hotel that is showing its age. It has charm, a terrific location, and a competent, resourceful staff. We used the hotel as a base for visiting the many chateaus and other historic locations in the Loire Valley and it worked for us in that role. They were offering a discounted breakfast option ($10 vs. $13 normally) which was a very good value. Easy walking to Tours restaurant district, where places stayed open late, was convenient after returning from a day of sight-seeing.

One downside: the wi-fi is terrible. It is inconvenient, since you have to get a separate log-in for each device you wish to connect every 24 hours. Once connected, your connection can be dropped at any moment. I had more trouble with my Apple devices (iPhone and iPad) than my husband did with his Samsung Galaxy phone and laptop. The hotel staff are aware of this and said that they have asked the owners to improve the service.

The hotel is surprisingly close to the train station of Tours, which we found very convenient. The rooms were spacious, clean and tidy in rather old fashion. Service was good overall, while it would be even better if each of the rooms are provided with kettle for tea/ coffee making.

The hotel is big but has al quite a historical character. The breakfast is nice, staff is friendly. The room is basic, but comfortable. Good value for price. Do not follow GPS! The road and square in front of the hotel is closed to traffic but there is a parking garage just as you get to the square. Vinci Parking. You get a discount ticket from the hotel.

Don't be put off by the hotel being right by the train station and bus station. Didn't hear anything from our room. Super location.

Room was very large as well as bathroom. As comfortable as one would expect from 3 star. Staff friendly, helpful & patient despite my lack of French. Hated all the smokers right in front of entrance. Each time I went in & out there were at least 6 or more smokers that blocked the door & had to ask them to excuse me each & every time & then hold my breath walking past them. You cannot actually pull up to hotel & it is best to go in the car park for the train station. Parking $11 euros/day. Hotel gives you ticket to exit indicating you only pay $7/day but it us only for 1 day. You pay $11 for any days after the 1st day. Cannot comment on hotel restaurant as did not use. Plenty of restaurants in the area instead.

Dont rely on this hotels information.

Arrived at hotel having been promised by phone secure parking. Parking turned out to be in underground PUBLIC area. Felt unable to leave our car as it was full up with goods. Hotel refused to cancel our pre paid booking even though the front of the hotel was blocked by numerous drunks at 2.30pm. and the whole area was obviously unsavoury. Would never consider staying there. As we had phoned the hotel specifically about the parking would have at least have expected some refund.

Did not stay as no SECURE parking!

We booked on-line, then telephoned the hotel to reserve a Secure parking space. We were advised that it would cost E7 and there was no need to book in advance. On arrival at the hotel we found we had to drive down a pedestrian concourse to the front door to unload our baggage, and was advised that there was only parking in the underground STATION car park. As our car was full of Wine and food which we could not unload, we declined to stay. We are therefore claiming a refund as neither the website or hotel advised us of this difficulty, and also after observing a group of alcoholics crouched outside the hotel door!

Grand Hotel Tours

The hotel is very nicely situated right in the middle of downtown Tours. It is adjacent to the train station and a bus terminal. Restaurants and downtown shopping are right behind the hotel. Arriving by car can be difficult so we put the vehicle in the underground park and walked a few steps to the hotel. The hotel compted us for the overnight parking.The service was very good.

The location of Le Grand Hotel couldn't be more perfect. After arriving from Paris, I walked a few steps across a plaza from the train station. It is also located in an area where there are many shops and places to eat, so there is a variety of things to do and places to go. The receptionist, Pauline, was wonderful with suggestions and recommended a very good restaurant within walking distance. The hotel is European by decorating standards, so if you're expecting American spaciousness you won't find it. However, you will find the amenities expected in a larger hotel. My room was clean and the bed was incredibly comfortable. One note, remember to close the window at night as the street below can get noisy with vacationers having a good time. The window muffles the noise, so it is absolutely quiet. Really, a hidden gem that shouldn't be overlooked.
