The hotel is very grand on entrance and the check in staff helpful and friendly. Our room was large and spacious, but on the ground floor straight onto a street. Hotels,com are great deals, but you never get a great room. Dinner in the Garden Restaurant was nice but for 5 stars you would expect much better. The breakfast was great with extensive options and freshly prepared hot breakfast. Beds very comfortable. Overall a nice stay. Just not sure it’s worth the price.

Poor staff only in the bar as they seemed short staffed. For a 5 star hotel is was not very good. But we still had to pay £7.00 service charge for every round of drinks. So 2 drinks cost us £24.00 but had to wait about 20 minutes for each round!

Was good to upgrade the room for a beach side-on very. Room was clean and spacious. Breakfast was included and was very filling. We ate in the restuarant the first night and had great food. Would recommend the steak! Staff were very friendly. Also used the outdoor and indoor pools. They were nicely appointed and the outdoor pool was larger enough to feel that you were getting some excercise done, not just messing about in the water. Being on the sea front with the beach nearby and also the town and theatres with in easy walk meant the hotel was in a good location.

Just across from the sea which made it a really relaxing break. Breakfast was great, with a lot of options available. You could choose from continental, English or both types of breakfast. The stay was fine. Bit of a dated room and slow service at the bar. Room had those annoying curtains that don’t close properly so the room is bright at sunrise 😂
Beautiful location, great breakfast but the reason for the poor review is that I was silly enough to leave my toiletries behind And oh boy what a pain to retrieve them. Had to call four times and email twice before they sent them on. Just super disorganised.

It's been about 15 years since I last stayed and I was slightly disappointed this time. The lamp on our dressing table did not work nor did the vanity mirror light in the bathroom. Also found a few curly hairs in the bathroom.
The Spa is looking quite run down. Peeling paint, missing tiles and mouldy grout in the pool. Mould on the step. Generally did not feel very clean.

An amazing weekend at the Grand - was there for our wedding anniversary that coincided with the Airbourne. Staff on the whole were amazing - the service was a bit intermittent at times, but it was a busy weekend for them so totally understand how difficult it is to get the resource right. Concierge service excellent. Room not as expected. Maintenance work (noisy) from next door before 9am. No pre warning. Waited half an hour to be served in bar both before and after dinner and ten minutes at breakfast after being sat at an unmade up table. Dirty crockery left on table from previous users in bar. Coffee served in chipped cup. In the end left early.

Check in was very good with friendly staff. Valet parking very helpful “Tony” was remarkably helpful.
We originally booked a classic room. This was an attic room nowhere near as the measurements described on Hotel .com site. This room had a stale smell. We requested upgrade which was accommodated. Deluxe room although without any views was clean and airy. There was no fridge which is a must for my medicines. The housekeeping provided us with a small fridge . When plugged in we found the electric sockets where the TV was, were not working . We had to ask for shower caps Duty manager Bronwyn was very helpful and she herself sorted that out
The evening meal in the Garden Grill was not to standard even the service meant to be silver service was not 5*
Next day we wanted to use the pool & spa and found no Robes. Which were given to us after considerable wait.
Our floor was very noisy with Children. The coffee was only decaf no normal tea bags. The best thing about the stay was Breakfast Very good. I would stay there again but expect better comfort probably will book a more superior room.

This is an impressive grand old hotel with professional, friendly staff. We really enjoyed its position on the seafront and its two pools.

However, parts of the hotel are very dated and staff were overwhelmed at breakfast, which meant service was slow and detracted from overall experience.

The bed was too soft and pillows old and flat. The bathroom was a museum piece! For these reasons, we felt it was very overpriced.It needs alot of money spending on it to modernise it.

There are a lot of positive about the Grand. However were left with a rather bitter taste in our mouths after the upgrade/room bump and felt the staff were trying to fob off a room likely rejected on a regular basis for its noise issues and undesirable location by the bar seating. That being the case after hearing it was our 10 year wedding anniversary. I also heard the staff offering other guests wake up calls and talking them through the facilities as they checked in. We didn’t get the same helpful little rundown which further made us feel like we for some reason weren’t valued guests.

I think for the price of the stay the Grand could definitely do better for its gusts. It’s the most expensive hotel in the area by a good deal and I assume this is based purely on the presence of the spa facilities. So unless you desperately want to use the pools or spar or money is no object, I would look elsewhere and save yourself some spending money.

It’s a historical building - lots of character and grand looking! Close to the beach and seven sister cliffs.
Some staff were super helpful, others were not.
The building is old and some areas need work (ie. pool had missing tiles on the steps. Ceiling is peeling in areas.) it’s old but still nice.
The doormen were all wonderful and very helpful!

Didn’t expect what I saw the room is big but it’s full of flies and insects which I never experienced anywhere in other hotels, the bed was uncomfortable and found a pillow dirty and had to call to let them and come and bring a new pillow and they bought a pillow with case and the zip is damaged and doesn’t zip up. And next day the room attendant came to clean the room I expected them to put new towels which they haven’t left the bathroom with dirty towels honestly it was a big shock for us and never go back there

I liked the parking guy He was very helpful and saved us a parking space instead of us parking on the street. At breakfast however we were unimpressed. The front of house was surly and unwelcoming and the junior staff not empowered to make decisions themselves as when we asked to be moved away from the dirty dishes stand it was a case of \"I will have to ask my supervisor first' so we left. The room was three quarters empty.

Great property, amazing location as it is right at the beach. There is parking onsite, however, it gets full quickly. That said, there is ample parking around the hotel. The breakfast was okay, not great. The hotel is dog friendly and they had kept treats and bed for the dog in the room.
Only downside is that the sea facing rooms dont have an aircon and in 26C heat, that was something which was needed.

The Grand is a fine hotel but I was concerned about the overall service provided. Our room, although very clean, had an unpleasant musty smell. We raised this with the hotel but it was not adequately dealt with. Our room was not cleaned on one occasion and towels not replaced on another. Service in the bar was slow. On the positive side staff were generally friendly and attentive and service at breakfast was very good.

we arrive quite early wanting drinks in the bar which wasn't a problem,
but it was really really slow service and there wasn't many people about to be honest

Even tried sitting on the patio Service was even worse

we thought we made a serious mistake booking this place for our wedding anniversary, which is 39 years

we got our room and got changed for the evening

as the evening started different staff arrived and things changed.

We had a fantastic evening meal a brilliant piano player during the meal.
(I believe his name is Roy.)

All the food was spot-on to be honest and then we left there and discovered there was a jazz band in the main bar which was absolutely brilliant as well

in that main bar there was more efficient staff that looked after us very well so the evening made up for the slow service in the day
so all in all really enjoyed it was quite expensive though but it is the grand hotel Eastbourne
there was certain members of staff that are amazing
they've been there in a long long time would return for them

Room 102 - Very Unfriendly !

ROOM 102 - NOISY Pigeons, From 4.30am onwards, despite continual \"shooing away!'. No Double glazing.
They don't seem to be around in the Quad during the middle part of the day - when I took the picture.
BLACKOUT - Ineffective due to shape of window recess.
BATHROOM - Insufficient shelf space around sink.
QUIET ROOM REQUESTED - So in addition to Pigeons, a lot of noise from room above(bumping & banging), largely due to old floorboards - Should be upgraded as each room is refurbished.
A Hook on the inside of Bathroom Door would be nice, as would a Larger TV.
FINALLY - Room Service Tray, nice & large, but didn't really fit comfortably onto Desk or Round Table, & actually resulted in a spill !
These problems are readily VERIFIABLE, I have not exaggerated any of my concerns.
Most if the PROBLEMS are not too difficult to remedy, or work around, particularly if accurate accounts/problem areas are recorded for EACH room, and born in mind when matching Visitors Requirements.
However, the Noise issues & inadequate BLACKOUT Blind, are areas which require URGENT attention.
The staff were friendly and helpful and the dining experience was pleasant, It's just rather a shame that in terms of the Room, this lovely old Hotel, at which I have had many pleasant experiences in years gone by, she does seem to have lost her halo at the present time.
It would be nice to hear that these problem areas are being rectified, so that I would feel comfortable about staying there again in future.

We reserved a table for our ladt morning only to find it had been taken by a single person keen to film/ photo his experience - our reservation was of no concern to the staff.

Massive hotel. Service is ok. Only concierge is helpful even though they have to do multi tasks. Such as parking allocation, helping guests with their luggage to their room and at check out.

I booked a classic superior room according to Expedia but upon check in, the reception said it was a class room in their booking system.

The room size and layout of two rooms have a lot of difference. But the reception gave me 2 rooms to choose but none of them would look similar to what I booked.

At the end, I chose the classic room because it had air con in the room and it was modern and clean. And it was ok.

The Grand hotel is fine with people looking for old fashion hotels and don’t mind overpriced room rate. But one need to be aware of the dated exterior and renovation is underway. The front desk staff somewhat not as the same par as when it’s in busy check in time, they don’t want to spend too much time with you if you have problems. To be fair, there were only 2 ladies at check in desk.

The Hotel is wonderful with as many of the original features on display. The rooms are spacious and in keeping with a period hotel. Excellent bathroom, comfy bed. The windows are old single glazed sash windows and rattle in the wind. However a couple of stratigicly placed teaspoons stopped the rattles. Breakfast is amazing something for everyone. The staff are amazing as the guest is their most important focus. All reflected in the price. Top marks

We stayed only for one night for husband birthday
And I booked to stay in the classic queen bed bedroom but the bed was not a queens bed it was to single beds pushed together to make a big bed with a zip in the middle of the bed to join it together it was a very bad night sleep we both did not sleep as we both keep sliding in to the middle of the bed on to the zip in the middle it was a very big dip in the middle of the bed it was not comfortable and both did not sleep plus there was mad marks yellow marks on the walls I would say from water leaks plus we had to very bad dirty tea spoons in room so we could not have a coffee when we arrived we had to go and get them to change them plus we had no hot water when we arrived and they had to sort that out as well
The room is not 5 stars it was more of a 2 maybe a 3 star
But the hotel is under going work on out side and on stairs
But the pool area was nice and used that
The breakfast was nice
But everything closes at 9.00pm
And if u are a person how likes luxury and a good night out then this hotel is not for u as restaurants close at 9.00pm and drinks bar around just after 11pm there is not night live no music or shows or and entertainment
So if u want to relax and go to bed early then this place is what u are looking for if u are not looking for luxury and a good night sleep

The room we opted for was rated as De Lux which we thought was rather over the top. The bed in the room was designated a double bed but in fact it was the smallest double we have ever tried to sleep in. Also the absence of a refrigerator was also unusual in a room designated De Lux. The food was reasonably good but rather over priced and the wine was riidiculously over priced. Having lived in South Africa for over 30 years we were aware that a bottle of Robertson Sauvignon Blanc would cost around around R150. Obviously transport costs would inflate the price but we would not have thought it would jump from R150 to R1080 plus 12.5% service charge. I would mention that Robertson wine was not particularly highly rated as it was seen as just an average every day drink. Many apologies for appearing to be rather negative in our assessment of this hotel.

Stayed here with wider family, the staff are welcoming and being able to use the facilities before check in time is really helpful when the party is travelling from different places. The rooms were clean and the lounge area was spacious with a good menu. Breakfast food was good quality but service was slow and limited ‘help yourself’ item options (possibly it was busy and there was a lack of restocking). Overall we would stay again.

I had a fabulous stay! I was in recovery from a gastricoperation and had very tricky food requirements. The staff were extremely helpful and went above and beyond to ensure I had meals that met all the requirements (dairy free, gluten free and no acidic or spicy foods). The chef made me tasty alternatives and i enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea that catered to all my dietary requirements. A special mention of Chantelle, who at every dinner service ensured that my meals met all my requirements numerous times. My stay was relaxing, in the perfect location. I would stay again thanks to the impeccable service of the staff!

Came here for a weekend getaway with my husband and a few friends. We paid extra upon arrival for a room upgrade.

Pros: the valet was amazing, friendly and helpful. The hotel has a convenient location with sea views and proximity to the seven sisters walk. Overall positive experience

Cons: it’s just not a 5 star hotel, while it is certainly grand, it was more of a 3 star experience from general upkeep and offerings. The breakfast was not very good and the amenities are outdated.

Regretfully, for the rating of the hotel and the price, the quality overall was disappointing.
Breakfast cooked was not hot. Wait time between courses on one night was lengthy. Needed more staff to cope better.

The hotel decoration was beautiful and very clean. The room was perfect and when we had an issue the staff were very efficient and moved us to a new room. The hotel was very quiet except for a bit of noise during one day when scaffolding was being erected outside the new room we were in, this was due to repairs taking place so couldn’t be helped. We had a superb breakfast each morning with lots of choice.

Classic hotel that truly lives up to the name!

Beautiful classic hotel that is grand in all aspects not just name. Aside from the opulent surroundings, the service was excellent - responsive and helpful staff. The breakfast (the only meal I had at the hotel) was absolutely outstanding. Super comfortable bed and room also - two nights of great sleep even though I don't normally sleep well away from home. Will be back with the whole family!

Beautiful building and comfy bed and room

Amazing hotel and grounds. Plenty of parking out of season so no need to pay to pre book. We stayed in a superior room which looked newly renovated. The bed was comfy and everything was high quality. Breakfast in the morning was also very nice and good quality, and all ordered and served with table service. There was also a self serve continental buffet. Staff all friendly and helpful, making it a pleasurable experience overall.

This is my favourite hotel full stop! It’s always a complete delight staying here. Fantastic hotel, beautiful rooms with extremely comfortable bed, superb service and wonderful, attentive staff all set in a remarkably beautiful building by the sea. It’s completely unique and never lets its standards drop. Highly recommended!

Really enjoying staying albeit for one night while seeing a comedy night . Lovely staff and great bed . The breakfast was really exceptional as was our waitress . Great building and setting reminded me of Hotels of a long time ago . Recommended

The room was rather small for such an expensive hotel. I can understand that if you don't pay the extra for a sea view, you don't get a sea view. But the view from the room of a rather inspiring courtyard wasn't great.
