this hotel seems recently updated and the interiors and rooms are really nice in this hotel class. Rooms look nice and are well-equipped and clean (and quiet). The exteriors could use a bit of paint to make it look more friendly and less like a dead building in a dead zone. The exterior might dissuade people to stay there, while it is really a nice, modern hotel on the edge of Bordeaux that I will remember next time I'm in the area.

We stayed in Novotel Bordeaux Lac for 5 days and had a lovely time! Our room was comfortable and clean, the food at the hotel restaurant was very nice, the staff kind and helpful and our 9 year old son also enjoyed the games room which had an XBox and a bar football. Highly recommended!

Booked an Executive room which was meant to have a queen bed, we had a double bed and the room was very poor the bathroom was grubby the water drained too slowly when showering so ended up with a bath half full of water when showering. Not a very good experience. The downstairs check in area was very good though very clean and modern which made the room feel more of a let down.

The property is very nice, suitable for travellers with a car. There's a convenient tram line to town center next door. Breakfast is fantastic. Staff is polite, english speaking and accomodating. All systems work well -- A/C, water pressure, sink draining. Comfortable beds. Rooms size is adequate. Excellent choice for staying in Bordeaux with good value for the money.

Great hotel with outdoor pool which we really appreciated in the hot weather. Good location close to tram for easy access into Bordeaux. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Room comfortable and cleaned daily. Good variety of breakfast. Ate dinner in restauratant one evening but was not impressed with food and did not eat there again. So many good restaurants in Bordeaux to choose from. Late check out agreed at no extra charge. Would recommend this hotel and stay there again.

A simple basic accommodation. The check in person at reception (an older gentleman ) was sort of unhelpful and rather rude. The others were very helpful especially an young man.
Room could use vacuuming.
Otherwise, fairly clean. The toilet continued to flush. Got it fixed after five days.
The room faced a wall rather any lake view.

I found the Hotel easy accessible from the Motorway although we usued it for just an overnight transit stop My family really liked this Hotel . The staff were brilliant . Just one concern that shook me and made us rightly complain to the Reception desk . My 14 year old grand .daughter woke around 2 am to find a strange man in her room startled she challenged him , he mumbled something and let himself back out of her room. Reception were very apologetic and at a loss as to how he could enter another room that is opened by using a magnetic card. !! ??

An easy hotel if you want to bring a car.

A great hotel given it is part of a chain. Good location if you are bringing a car with you as the parking is free and easy. Simple to walk 5 mins or Less to tram stop into the city as they run every 10 mins. Staff were super and the breakfast wad good as well. The on site restaurant is good as well if you don't want to go into town. Pool lovely too.

Nice hotel at the Lake, great for having pet

Lovely hotel, he had really stay and what was really convenient for us was location of the tram next door. If you ever visit this hotel than make sure to go for a day trip to Bordeaux town centre, tram would cost you only 1.70€ each way but it’s worth it every penny as Bordeaux is one of most beautiful town we have pleasure to visit.

When we check-in my kid was offer a gift to choose in the box at the desk, i really thought the staff at Novotel Bordeaux Lac was really thoughtful, my kid never forgot that moment and he still mention how nice the hotel was and the staff treated us, we also love the football table x2 you had there my kid always love playing if he was not swimming at the pool, also the whole family love the free photo booth had plenty of laught and lovely memories, this is what a hotel should be family friendly cannot fault it !. Me and my famiIy would stay here again anytime.

Great stopover in Bordeaux

We use Novotel all the time. This time stopping over en route to Spain. We had a lovely evening with a dip in the pool and decided to eat at the hotel. It was busy and felt more like a restaurant than a hotel with the added benefit of evening entertainment with a couple singing live.

The main problem was the traffic on the road to the hotel - dont travel on this road between 5pm and 7pm.

Brilliant hotel for what we needed and used it as a pit stop enroute to Spain and back from London. Very good amenities including a swimming pool. Handy transportation of a tram to centre which is about 15 minutes. Very warm welcome by staff and customer care is brilliant. On our way down to Spain we stayed 2 nights and had a minor misunderstanding with the hotel and the manager compensated it by upgrading us to a better room and few other benefits on our way up from Spain when we are staying another 2 nights. Defo recommend.

Having stayed in several Novotel's over the years, this was the best experience of them all. We chose this as an excellent base to explore Bordeaux (beautiful) and the surrounding area and knew that the excellent buffet breakfast would keep us going most of the day. What we hadn't expected was for the hotel itself to be so lovely, situated on the lake, and the pleasant family vibe throughout our stay. Brilliant facilities, stylish decor, immaculate, great pool, great transport links and that fine buffet breakfast which we all loved. Best of all though were the entire staff - from front desk to bar/restaurant through to the cleaners - all super friendly, polite and helpful. What more can you ask? A terrific week's stay - our two kids (11 and 13) loved it - and would recommend to anyone.

Lovely helpful hotel next to 2 lakes

My husband and I went to Bordeaux for our youngest son's wedding. We were a party of 14- my three sons, their children and wives. The hotel was super, next to two lakes, one having free sailing activities and a beach. Just a minute down the road we found trams and busses running into Bordeaux and many other places until late and only 1.5 euro a trip. The buffet breakfast was also very good. The staff could not have been more helpful. All in all we have a wonderful 7 days. This hotel really caters for children of all ages.

Perfect for my family!

With my family it was the perfect place.... young and energetic staff who were extremely helpful. Facilities were excellent and well maintained. Food was great, we had breakfast there each morning. Bordeaux Lac area is a bit sterile, but we chose it for its convenience. It was very easy to get into the Medoc, where we were visiting wineries, and, with the Tram, getting downtown for dinner or sightseeing was very convenient.

I was given the most appalling room, really old and shabby, nothing like the nice ones in the pictures. After I asked to change they gave me a slightly better one. The bar and restaurant are both very expensive but the commercial centre nearby has options for breakfast, lunch and dinner so I suggest to go there if you want to stay local. Hotel is very close to the tram so easy trip into town.

10 minute tram ride to city center

Were looking for a hotel we could park our car and ride into the city from. This was perfect. Easy to get to from the autoroute, very clean,very friendly and helpful employees who spoke excellent English. Restaurant was very good for both dinner and breakfast. Would highly recommend.

Very nice hotel, the check in took a little longer than usual so they could do with additional staff on the reception desk. The rooms are very clean and the restaurant has a reasonable selection of food for a quick bite. If you're traveling through to Spain this is a very good stop off as it's close to the motorway.

As ever, Novotel is great for families. They do the essentials very well and the staff are always very helpful. Nice pool area. The bar and restaurant have a good range of food to suit families.

One small negative: Bordeaux experienced some very warm nights while we were there and the air conditioning in the room didn't cool the room sufficiently to allow a comfortable night's sleep.

Nice quiet location. Very easy to get into Bordeaux as the tram stop is just outside. The hotel definitely needs some TLC, as the rooms are shabby. The rooms are also small for an out of town location. Breakfast is good and communal areas are well maintained. Room cleaning is not to a high standard.

Great hotel for a stop over or to visit the town.

Have stayed here many times as an overnight stopover. Prefer to upgrade my room as I like a little added comfort after a long drive but the standard rooms are really ok. The breakfast is one of the best. Really good continental varied breakfast or a cooked breakfast is available which would suit most people. Evening meals served in the restaurant. I particularly like the chicken Caesar salad.
Staff welcome is good and the rooms are kept very clean with good quality towels in the bathroom. Added bonus is the tea/coffee making facilities in room.
I would highly recommend this hotel and just a few minutes drive or bus ride in to the beautiful town of Bordeaux if you are lucky enough to have a few days spare.

We used this hotel as a stopover on our road trip to and from Portugal. The staff were very friendly and provided excellent service. The hotel is not too far from the centre of Bordeaux and in a great location if you're travelling through through as it's not too far from the motorway. The hotel also has a pool if you want to cool off from the summer heat.

Perfect location for a visit to Bordeaux

We have had many pleasant stays in other Novotels in both France & the UK. On entering the corridor where our room was located we were struck by the 'tiredness' of the carpets and general appearance. Likewise, whilst our room was very clean, the decor was somewhat 'tired' - having said that, the thick artex type wall coverings throughout the hotel would be a devil of a job to get rid of.... Now the positives. The location is perfect - right on the lac, and is in a much better site than the nearby Marriott or Pullman hotels who look as though they date from the same era. Furthermore, the hotel is about 50m from a tram stop. The 15 minute ride into Bordeaux centre takes about 15 minutes, and costs €1,50.The hotel surroundings are lovely, with well kept gardens and pool. The staff are extremely helpful & friendly, and readily helped us by providing bowls and heating up food for our young child. The breakfast was superb, with choices of different breads, fruits, cold meats, sausages, bacon, scrambled eggs, cheeses, pastries, cereals, tea, coffee, chocolate - basically, anything anybody could want - in unlimited supply. In summary - yes, the 'accommodation block' could do with a bit of a freshen up, but in terms of location and service, it was perfect. Recommended.

When we arrived, the receptionist told us our room was not ready despite the fact that it was 6pm. When we got to our room, the toilet smelled of urine and the air conditioning didn't work (it was 34 degrees). So we went to the swimming pool, which also stank of urine. The one good thing is that they have a games room for the kids and the air con there worked.

Restaurant closed for renovations, bar closed for renovations, lobby entertainment area for children closed for renovations... Amazed that Expedia sells this uninformed. Never experienced anything like it and would expect a refund to be considered given more that half the services we paid for we're not provided for! I've never complained about accommodation before!

It's very close to the exhibition buildings which is quite convenient. From the outside it looks quite old and the gardens / pool not well maintained. Inside however has been renovated and the bathroom looks new and modern. It's not my favorite hotel but still pleasant enough. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They organized the taxi for me early in the morning.

expensive food!

nice example of chain hotel, good when travelling with children. However, the food and drinks were very expensive (large beer over 7 euros). Supper and drinks for 2 adults and 2 kids totalled over 99 euros, although the food was delicious.

Good option, but need some maintenance

It is a good option, but the hotel needs some maintenance!!! Great service at the bar.
