The hotel is beautiful, in a school from the late 1800’s so felt like we were in a castle! Staff were very friendly. Restaurant had plenty of great options. The pool looked nice, we didn’t have time to use it and there were additional charges if you wanted to go. The room was nice but dirty in some spots and no fan working in the bathroom. Appreciated the tea tray with milk for the morning. Very walkable area with lots to see. Highly recommend the back walk behind the hotel up to the castle.

Bathroom had mildew around the shower, the shower was very old a d dated.

Booking through a 3rd party ie hotels.com incurred additional charges for parking £10 and spa / pool useage £20. I was made aware of the parking the evening before arrival.

Initially told I'd not paid for breakfast, which was incorrect and had to prove it with the booking.

No Aircon or fan in the room and a thick duvet.

I should have saved a fortune and booked the premier inn.

We had an unpleasant stay at this hotel in May 2026. We informed management of the situation and showed them the multiple bite marks. They assured us that a thorough check was completed and no bedbugs were found. One of us is medically trained and they dismissed his expertise.

I would not recommend this hotel to future travelers. The hotel is outdated, no AC , charges for parking , poor management, etc. It’s a great location but it comes with unwanted guests.

We enjoyed our stay here. The breakfast was excellent, and the staff were helpful throughout our visit. Our family room on the third floor was spacious and offered a lovely view.

The only downsides were that the decor felt a bit old-fashioned and there was no a/c, but overall, it was a good experience.

A hotel inside an old castle looks cool but rooms are nothing but modern or comfortable. Very old bathrooms,tall tub difficult to get in or out.Only soap available, no shampoo/ conditioner. We pay a high tariff for a king bed and found 2 twin beds together with sheets to make it look like a king bed.Dusty furniture and curtains, the hotel needs a serious upgrade. No elevator to floor 2 only stairs.A kind front desk gentleman(spanish) helped us with the suitcases to the room.Check out was awkward, young lady barely look me in the eye, had to ask myself if everything was fine to leave cause she just kept working in her computer while i was standing there.A property not worth a bit of such a high tariff

A convenient place to stay 5 minutes from the castle and 5 minutes from the town centre. The staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast on the second day however fell a little short they ran out of lots of things such a fruit and sausages and there was nothing to replace them with which was poor. If breakfast is advertised as between 7 and 10 then everything should be available whatever time you take it.

The outside of the hotel was nice but the inside was dirty. The staff was not friendly at check in. The bed was super uncomfortable and the pillows were hard as a rock. The breakfast area was unclean and the food was just okay. When we were at breakfast the maid had opened our room and did not close our door! We came back to an open room with all of our belongings just sitting out. The person down the hall saw this happen and informed us. One other room had no electricity all night. I was not happy.

From the very unhelpful reception to the worn out beds and sticky taped remote control, would not be my choice again. Having to push for service in the restaurant and seemed like everything was just too much for them. Very unhelpful. Maintenance guy was great and more helpful than everyone else.

Lovely old building. Very comfortable bed and pillows. Good size room. Bath was very nice. Breakfast was standard full buffet. Very fresh.
Tips:
We caught the train. From the station, it is a very short but steep walk.
Ask for a non-adjoining room in the top floor. Being an old building, the sound proofing leaves a fair amount to be desired.
Dinner was delicious but the portions of our curries were very modest.

Was a good value stay despite shortcomings. No elevator to floor 2 so that is where they placed our room. Older hotel that needs some updating. Took 5 min for hot water to arrive in shower. Mostly clean, quiet, and room was comfortable. Good location. I would stay in hotel again given I am a value shopper when looking for basically a place to sleep.

Loved our unplanned stay in this VERY dog friendly hotel just oozing with old school (!) character and in such a fantastic location too just minutes from both the castle and the town centre.
I did see some reviews mentioning tired room, old bathrooms etc but certainly the room we had was excellent. Very nice bed, big powerful shower and the dog loved his own dog bed and treats in the room. Such a nice touch and the staff were all friendly and welcoming too.
We arrived late and didn't have much chance to plan something to eat. Breakfast was very nice though and overall it was an excellent stay

The charm of an old school with modern conveniences. There was a surprising number of stairs involved in getting to the reception desk. That being said, there is a lift after a short climb.The location was perfect being on the main st leading to the castle, jail and church of the holy dude, all accessed with a 5 to 10 min walk. Great breakfast choices.

The check in was smooth plus staff were helpful, the pool / spa was good condition, everything open and well kept but the rooms were not 4 star standard , quite worn carpets , and bunk beds were old , the breakfast was not nice , very dry , had been left out on hot lamps for a while and should of been regularly replaced and regularly checked, scrambled eggs were awful , black pudding ,and sausages were dry and tasteless so not the 4 star quality in a Scottish hotel that we were expecting sadly . The 24 hour reception when called later at night was unmanned and no one answered when we wanted fresh water either so they shouldn’t say there is a 24 hour reception if no one is at reception.

The room was in need of a full refurbishment. There were cobwebs on the windows, mirror smeary, paintwork chipped and scuffed also the furniture the same. The bed was linked and uncomfortable, the pillows were hard. Clearly hadn't been cleaned from previous occupants as an apple was under a chair. The bathroom was stained, tiles cracked and the grout grimy. On a positive note, the breakfast was tasty but could have been hotter.

The rooms can do with a deep clean. From the sink to the skirting it was filthy. We had a family room, the top mattress was burst open, which you could see from the bottom bunk. The handle on the cupboard in the bunk bed room was broken off, not ideal as meant we couldn't use it.
There is an additional charge to use the swimming pool, I didn't know this until check in.
Breakfast was alright, however, there were no pastries the whole time were at breakfast, and there was still and hour left of breakfast service to go.
Although setting is good I wouldn't rush back to this hotel.

Good for an overnight but wouldn't stay any longer. Hotel is very tired in areas and could be doing with a refresh.

Additional charges for parking and use of leisure facilities weren't made clear at time of booking.

Would be nice to see some USB sockets in the room and more than the bog standard tv channels.

Only having a fixed shower head isnt great and the 3 in 1 shampoo/soap/shower gel was in short supply.

Bed was extremely soft with lots of roll together so not great.

Staff were lovely though and it's in a great location.

Complentary tea/coffee etc. in room not replenished. Used mugs not removed /replaced. Internet was great. A good variety of options for breakfast, although staff had to be asked to replenish items which were finished. Dinner menu disappointing and limited. More akin to a bar menu than a hotel restaurant. Leisure facilities were good.

Slightly disappointed as we stayed there 25 years ago and it is not as luxurious as it was then. It's starting to look at little worn. Having said that, the service was good, breakfast was reasonable and the room was a good size. The price was definitely reasonable, too.
We didn't take our car this time but, if we had, we would have been charged £10 a day for parking as we booked through a third party.

They didn’t have vegetarian sausages for breakfast however we return there many times and that was the first time they didn’t. Scrambled eggs were not good. Normally treat our dog like a wee princess but this time forgot her bed bowl and treats. Got sorted out with management and was very happy with the customer service. All the staff were lovely and will definitely be back again for the 10th stay. Really grateful

The staff at Stirling was amazing. Everyone was friendly, helpful, and kind. I want to give shoutouts to Ana, Cara, Amalee, and Declan in the restaurant.Their personal touches made our dinners memorable. Cameron, Bryony, and Joseph (aka a young Gerard Butler) were welcoming and helpful. We will definitely stay here again. The atmosphere of the hotel matched the surrounding neighborhood. It is just a short drive to the castle and a short walk to city shops. We loved Stirling!

We really enjoyed our time here. We didn’t realize when we booked here that they accept dogs and we really enjoyed meeting everyone’s pups! The staff was friendly and helpful and the pool and hottub were a huge bonus after walking a million steps a day up hill. The building is really unique and picturesque and we would definitely stay here again.

Arrived early to get car parked wasn’t expecting to check in, just to book the car In on the monitor at reception . However the reception had a room ready so we were able to take our bags up to our room. It was a Lovely spacious room - very comfortable bed, bathroom radiator was very warm during the night couldn’t turn it down, but bedroom was a nice temperature. Breakfast also very good no veggie sausage option and I didn’t ask, but plenty of other choices instead. Unfortunate that there is a car park charge unless you book direct with hotel and also if you want to use the spa facilities. However overall enjoyed the stay.

Hotels.com or the hotel do not give the correct information to its customers. Hotels.com do not say on the purchase (false advertising) that there is a £10 parking charge and a £10 charge for the gym. However if you book with the hotel direct you do not get charged this and you also get a bottle of wine in the room. This was feedback from the hotel and they also advised that hotels.com have this information.
So I was out of pocket for a false advertising cost by hotels.com or they do not let customers aware of this

The staff were friendly. Our room was very dirty and smelled of dog. The whole room needs an upgrade. The bathroom door was so dirty, it didn’t want to touch it.

We stayed here before, when visiting Stirling two years ago. We definitely won’t stay here again.
