Staff is very attentive however there is very little options for dining and no transport after 630pm with no options for taxi / I was also disappointed that we were not allowed in the onsen areas due to very small tattoos however we were stilled charged the “bath fee” for resort without being allowed to use the areas . I feel a discount should be made for guests the refuse service to these areas or allow for them to book private times. Charging guests for resort fees when they do not allow them to use the area isn’t acceptable - again staff was very pleasant amd we enjoy the area even with upgrading g to mt Fuji lake view without any view due to rain - we are happy with the hotel but still disagree with extra charges for bath and resort fee since we were refused entrance / we were also charged very large tourist tax which was not informed until check out my Expedia bill said we would pay Y76000 our final bill was over Y108800 because of bath fee and tourist fees
I wish to look to be refunded for the bath fees or please consider policy changes for other guests when they are refused entrance - charging your guests then not permitting them to enjoy these areas is in quality service I expected

A comfortable and well-run hotel with good service and a pleasant lake view. The Japanese-style breakfast was very good, though not outstanding. The free shuttle to Odawara Station was very convenient, and the room was spacious and comfortable. Overall a solid stay, even if the atmosphere felt more like a large hotel than a unique experience.

This hotel was WOW! We went to Japan and stayed at 4 different hotels and this one was my favorite one. Service was a 100000/10 food was great, views were unbelievable amazing. Keep in mind this hotel is located on a rural area so you are about 20 min away from the little town and everything closes at 8. Meaning you are unable to get into public transportation or taxi after that time. We had to walk 30 min to get back to the hotel. Nothing major, you really don’t hav to leave this hotel because it is stunning

The Prince Hakone Lake Hotel Ashinoko is a high quality hotel directly located at the shores of the Hakone Lake and in walking distance of the cable car. It has a big parking lot and a beautiful Onsen. Our lake view room was clean & spacious with a good view of Mt. Fuji. Two restaurants are onsite.

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The staff was friendly and accommodating, and our room was spacious, clean, and comfortable with a beautiful view of Lake Ashi. The location is lovely albeit a bit more secluded/farther away, right by the lake, with Mount Fuji visible on clear days. The hotel feels a bit dated (think 70s charm) but is well maintained and slightly upscale.

There’s a free shuttle to Odawara Station, but taxis must be booked in advance through the hotel. The dinner buffet was solid—good variety and tasty food. Nearby attractions include Hakone’s small aquarium and zoo (about 5 minutes away), and the famous floating torii gate and shrine, which is around a 20-minute walk through the woods. Go early—the lines get long!

The Prince went out of their way to make our stay absolutely perfect. My husband and I were extremely satisfied with everything. Our BBQ dinner (which you need reservations for) was our highlight for sure. We had the whole place to ourselves. Great food, incredible service and an incredible view. Again, we loved everything.

We had a lakeside room in one of the towers and it was great. The views from the balcony were amazing and we were lucky enough to even get a glimpse of Mnt Fuji on a clear day, along with some of the local flying squirels!
The buffet food at the grill restaurant was great and the Onsen was a great experiance too!
A great property we would highly recommend if you want a relaxing few days away from the hussle and bussle of the cities!

Beautiful stay by Ashinoko lake

We stayed for one night in this hotel. Overall we had a great stay. The hotel is located in a very beautiful remote spot, just by the lake. We had a family room with lake view. The room was very spacious and spotless clean, however the furniture and decor were slightly outdated. We enjoyed the hotel amenities especially its beautiful onsen. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The only drawback was that everything was closed at 18:30 when we arrived, so we had to have dinner at the hotel, and had to finish within half an hour the extremely overpriced buffet dinner as they closed at 19:00.

I will start with my critic feedback first: the bathroom was like airplane bathroom. The entire room is so good, it has everything what you need ,
Including the clothes to go to Olsen, but the bathroom is very dated, small and crampy.
Staff is 5/5. They want to make sure you are happy and comfortable - their hospitality is a role model for others.
Location - the best! Walkable from Tori gate
View - the best! Of the lake Ashiniko
There are 3 hotels nearby , including a buffet place, where chef would come to you to explain the food for non jap customers, amazing.
Overall , I think it’s a great hotel if you are not too bothered about bathroom.

The property itself is undeniably beautiful—nestled right by the lake with serene views and a peaceful atmosphere. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and the food was reasonably good. However, all of that is completely overshadowed by one major issue: the discriminatory ban on tattooed guests using the onsen.

Nowhere in the hotel rules or booking information was this restriction disclosed. Had I known, I would have never booked this hotel. Being refused access to a key amenity that is part of the experience—especially in a hotel of this caliber—is incredibly disappointing and feels exclusionary.

It’s 2025. This kind of outdated policy should either be reconsidered or clearly communicated upfront. Beautiful setting or not, I won’t be returning—and I hope others take this into consideration before booking.

Great Hotel with Beautiful Views

The hotel offers a shuttle service that picks you up from the train station, which is convenient. However, it doesn’t provide any guidance for visiting Mount Fuji, so we had to navigate on our own using the Hakone Travel Pass. It would have been much easier if there had been a tour guide or tourist bus that took us directly, even if we had to pay for it. Another area for improvement is the internet, which was a bit unreliable and sometimes cut out at night.

The room was comfortable but could use some improvements. It featured an electric kettle and a fridge, which were great for enjoying tea in the evening. The onsen was excellent, with wonderful hot spring water, although the facility could benefit from some updates and a bit more attention to its decor.

Overall, the experience was great. The hotel offers stunning lake views with a glimpse of Mount Fuji, but if you want a closer view, the hotel doesn't provide any services to help with that. As foreigners, we were unable to rent a car, so we had to rely on local transport in Hakone, which made getting around a bit slower. Still, everything was overall very good.

Our accommodation was wonderful with friendly and helpful staff. However, the price tag of their Japanese style restaurant was overly priced. For example, a small plate of tempura was around $25 USD. We ordered our dinner a La carte and was 19,000 yen, around $122 USD. If we had done a set menu, average price would have been over $120/pp. The highlight was a 3 minute walk to the doorway to the view of Mt. Fuji, about 1800 yen/pp. we had great opportunity for pictures!

Overall a nice stay

We stayed here at the end of our Japan trip. The service was incredible, everyone was hopping up to help whenever we needed. Huang at the bell service specifically was very helpful to us. She helped us from start to finish. Food is expensive and there really isn’t another breakfast or dinner option around as most restaurants nearby close at 3-4pm. The food was good but not sure about value there. The room was spacious and there was a king bed which is hard to come by in Japan so we enjoyed that. The decor is definitely dated but from what we saw, majority of the clientele are older folks so they probably enjoy it. Atmosphere was very relaxing and we saw Mount Fuji everyday of our trip from the lawn of the hotel. There’s a free shuttle from Okawara Station, just be sure to book in advance on their website and there’s also a free shuttle to and from the town area of Hakone each day which was fabulous. Overall a nice stay.

Truly five star accommodation in an immaculate setting. The level of service is actually six star. The hot springs (Onsen) were well kept and stocked with soaps and lotions and grooming aids.

This property is very dated and there are no inexpensive options for dinner. You had to pay $75 a head for dinner or nothing at all. The gift shop only had limited snacks. The bus service to town was limited as well so my kids hiked about 6 miles to get a pizza for the family. The hot springs were an additional fee. The location was beautiful but I would stay in town instead
The hotel cost was extremely expensive for such an old dated hotel.

Gorgeous and spacious room. Very inviting onsen area, even in the pouring rain. Nice touch that outfits are provided to walk to the onsen, and it was a long distance from my room. Expensive but delicious meal at the French restaurant. Breakfast was plentiful but they need more than one coffee machine; there was always a line of people waiting. The hotel has beautiful grounds and landscaping, with great views of the lake, which I saw only through windows, sadly, as it never stopped raining during my whole visit. :-(

It is a little out of the way but the hotel provides a free shuttle to and from the train station and a free hourly shuttle to the nearby town which is absolutely fabulous. beware if you dont have your own car.

The place is isolated and the public transportation is not frequent. This leaves you trapped in the evenings because the busses stop around 5 and there are no restraunts nearby. They provide some expensive meals there if you book in advance.

The room had a great view, but the room was more of a 2 star quality.
There is no air-conditioning and there are mosquitoes. suffer in heat or in bites.

it does have a view of mount Fuji. Did not get to try the onsen.

2 stars because hotel did not meet expectations for the price

A very nice resort. However, our stay was based on it's great location near a ropeway that allowed us to enjoy gorgeous views of Mt Fuji on a perfectly clear morning. We appreciated the front desk staff member who filled out all the necessary paperwork to get out luggage shipped to our Kyoto hotel. Since we arrived late, we decided on room service which provided a broad menu of what we discovered was quite delicious food. The next morning, the breakfast buffet had delicious selections.

The hotel is very remote from the city. There is a free hotel shuttle to the next small town which you could get some snacks. The hotel is beautiful and quiet and the staff are very friendly and helpful.

Good retro feel but pricey

Historical hotel with Frank Lloyd Wright/ space ship architectural reminders. If you get lake view room & weather cooperates, gorgeous view of Mt Fuji. Food quality in both French & Japanese restaurants high but also prices! Rooms were very spacious but also dated & high. Onsen bldg was newer, outdoor rotenburo was a delight. We had a rental car but limited shuttles available. If looking for a relaxing, retro stay I would recommend but not for budget hearted.

Very helpful staff, they welcomed us and provided maps for the surrounding area as well as different activities to do with times included. The hotel was very spacious and included a Onsen which I regret not trying out, although I was told it was very relaxing and a great experience. The view outside my room overlooked the lake giving us a great view. There is also a couple restaurants in the hotel I had a course meal that was very delicious and the staff in the restaurant was very accommodating and helpful. Would stay here again if I come back to Hakone

Enjoy Lake Ashi

The hotel is well located for lake views, view of Mt Fuji and access to Hakone Round Course. They provide great facilities and services with complimentary buses to/from Odawara Station and Mota Harkone and excellent hot springs facilities.
Access to shopping and alternate eating opportunities is a little restricted.
