Came here for the second time, this time with a friend. Definitely enjoyed the public baths as well as Yunessun/Mori no Yu next door.

Recommend at least two nights to fully enjoy the scenery and the amenities at the hotel.

Staff were once again extremely nice whenever we had questions. Definitely would come again if I'm revisiting the area!

I left feeling disappointed given the price point. At over $800 per night for two adults and two children, I expected a much higher-end experience.

While breakfast and dinner were included, both were buffet-style with a large selection of food and alcohol. The variety was impressive, but the overall food quality felt average and did not match what I would expect from a property charging premium rates. For this price, I was expecting restaurant-quality dining rather than a typical buffet experience.

The onsen was also underwhelming. It felt more like a standard public bathhouse than a luxury hot spring experience, which was surprising considering the nightly rate.

If the room rate were in the $400–$500 range, I would likely view the experience much more favorably. However, at over $800 per night, my expectations were significantly higher.

One final recommendation: skip the spa and massage services. The pricing was over $200 per hour, and the treatment felt more like a light touch session than an actual massage. In my opinion, it was not a good value and did not justify the cost.

Overall, the hotel was not terrible, but the value simply did not align with the premium pricing.

We had an amazing time at the Ten-Yu Hakone Property. Staff was helpful, we got very nice mountain facing rooms, and they gave us rooms together per our request. The rooms were super clean and beautiful. The dinner and breakfast buffet were excellent. we just wished we could have stayed longer. I would definitely recommend this property to everyone. I would give it 6 stars out of 5 if I could.

But there are a few things we really did not like.
If you try to call the reception, they hardly can speak English, always sorry, only Japanese.
Then we lost our bag in the bus and asked the hotel after checkout to help us claim the bag, they just send us a phone number for the bus station, I could look this up myself. And I even tried to call the bus station, but they only speak Japanese, that’s why I have ask the hotel to help us. Luckily our next hotel in Sapporo called the bus station and we got our bag back.
Finally the dinner is super Westernized. If you expect a full Japanese buffet, don’t go there, unless you want to eat Mac and cheese… and French fries…

We only stayed a few nights, but the experience was so good I wish we'd stayed longer. First the location is amazing. A beautiful property up in the mountains surround by nature and beautiful sky be it day or night. The staff are super friendly from the minute you arrive they usher you in, help you get checked in, and do a thorough job of explaining the amenties and features of the hotel. The rooms are fantastic, offering a mix of traditional and modern Japanese living. The open air bath on the balcony is a gamechanger.

We booked the room that included the dinner package and I would highly recommended it. The courses were fantastic one after another. Additionally breakfast is available and there's so much delicious food, I felt completely ruined for other hotels on my trip.

And lastly what is so amazing about this hotel is just how peaceful and serene it is. The environment encourages slowing down, relaxing, and enjoying the tranquility of the Japanese landscape. I found myself going out on the balcony each morning, meditating or reading a book with the just the ambience for sound. I'm a director and writer and I've decided I'll be booking this hotel to work on a novel I'm writing. I felt so inspired and in such a flow state while staying here.

If visiting Hakone this would be my top recommendation. Can't rave about it enough.

Our family of four decided to splurge on a night at this highly rated hotel recommended to us by family members. The hotel staff was truly excellent - Mika the hotel manager was attentive to all of our concerns such as noise from other guests, and her team provided unexpected but highly appreciated gestures such as arranging a shuttle to another Hakone Kowakien property. The dinner buffet was truly fantastic - it lived up to the word of mouth and online positive reviews. Our Maisonette room was very comfortable and having a private massage machine made it an unforgettable stay. The private balcony onsen was nice although I question why wooden planks/ fences were used instead of glass as most of the mountain view was obstructed when inside the tub (blinds are already installed and can provide privacy if desired). If we had to nitpick, it would be that the indoor and outdoor onsen areas seemed to be in need of refurbishment from years of accumulated sulphur and mineral deposits. Also, the welcome footbath in the lobby was sadly under repair during our stay so we didn’t get to experience this part of the perks that was in most Tenyu marketing materials. Overall, it was a memorable 4.5 out of 5 star stay.

The experience was wonderful, the food outstanding. I enjoyed the hotsprings and the use of the robes. The breakfast was next level in terms of selection and quality.
My only frustration was my package through Expedia included a food and beverage credit of 5605¥. Because of the credit, we bought 1 extra drink for me at the restaurant and a couple drinks at the store.
When we checked out there was no credit. When I asked the staff the said the credit was for the first drink we had at dinner - I explained that didn't make sense, we were told it was included, and the cost of those drinks (especially one being a non alcoholic beverage) didn't come close to the credit amount. The employee was polite but told us to pay. I felt that was false advertising and really put a damper on an otherwise great trip. We wouldn't have bought the extra drinks, we only did so to use our credits.

An Oasis just 80 kms from Tokyo! The hotel scenery envelopes you in lush trees, waterfalls, and rocks. What a delight! The two different Onsen are equally spectacular, but my favorite was the one with the waterfall. Yes, it is on the pricier end, but if you can make it work in your budget, I HIGHLY recommend this hotel. Staff are all friendly and helpful and the rooms are spacious. We had 3 people, so one of us had to “rough it”on a futon. So, three western beds would have been my first preference! Small detail however, as we had a magnificent time.

Highly recommend staying here if it’s within your budget!

If you have the Hakone Freepass, then head to Gora and the hotel has a very convenient shuttle bus stop there that runs every 20 min. Upon arriving staff greeted us, took our luggage, and coordinated check in. After check in, staff immediately escorted us to the room with our stuff while telling us highlights of the property, such as where the onsens were and where breakfast was.

The room itself was great. It’s nice and clean. They have yukatas in the room but you need to request for kids size. Obviously the best part is having your own personal tub on the balcony with hot spring water and cold water to adjust to your personal comfort. Shower pressure was good and they provide body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and 2 kinds of lotions. The beds were very comfy with plush pillows and a fluffy comforter. We personally prefer to sleep in a cold room and had control over the thermostat.

Food wise we did the package with both dinner and breakfast buffet. Dinner buffet came with all you can drink with select beer, sake, sochu up

We had a room with a private bath on the balcony. Our room was very clean and well appointed. My husband and I had separate single beds - not sure if I made a mistake with the booking or if that was standard. The location of the hotel is stunning. The staff were incredibly welcoming and accommodating. There was a shuttle bus from the local train station which we didn’t know until a couple of days before our trip. The included teppinyaki dinner was one of our favourite dinners in our whole time in Japan. No tattoos allowed in the public baths, but the private bath was perfect for me.

An absolutely incredible property in Hakone. We couldn’t imagine a better experience in the area. Staff was very welcoming and inviting upon arrival, and the general ambiance in the lobby gave us a sense of relaxation immediately. Off-property Kaiseki dinner was a great experience, with amazing presentation of dishes and fantastic service. Onsen facilities were great, very clean with many amenities. The outside private onsen is really just big enough for one. The rooms are kind of small. Food is very good and drinks are available for all tastes. I am gold vip and was supposed to get a 5600 yen credit that never materialized. The room price included dinner but they listed credit separately. Apparently this is confusing English translation. I eventually got that the room prices include 5600 yen dinner. Not credit. They should probably clean up the deception in the promotion. Just put bundle price. Otherwise nice hotel and spa.

Very enjoyable experience. The staff was/is, overall, incredibly respectful/kind and the breakfast and dinner buffet, a better and cheaper option, was fantastic (with a large variety of options). The only issue with our stay is I have a shell fish allergy and made the mistake (my fault) of not informing the staff with enough lead time and the result was the fixed price dinner we paid a premium to enjoy, was not enjoyable as they could not substitute any ingredients, the server was visibly frustrated and made me feel embarrassed about my allergy, and the front desk after (our meal) suggested we eat at the buffet for our next evening meal, though they would not offer a refund for the difference. The Hakone area is beautiful and a nice break from Tokyo, Kyoto, etc. though the options for daily excursions are limited to the open air museum (really nice), a small museum, etc.

This was our favourite stay for our whole Japan trip. We stayed at 3 other hotels. This place and area is unbeatable and i wish I would’ve booked a second night. I didn’t know that I would want to live this day again. The staff were ridiculously kind and helpful. At the end of our stay, I asked which bus and where I should take to get to Hakone-Yumi to and she literally left her post and started running to help me catch the bus.
My son enjoyed free ice cream from the vending machine (which he loved).
The band in the lobby before dinner was such a nice touch.
The dinner and breakfast were perfect.
Honestly, just the perfect relaxing spot for us. Would go back for sure.

I couldn’t have asked for a better stay!
We loved every minute of our stay at Ten yu. The staff were very accommodating and friendly, the room was excellent with all the amenities you didn’t even know you needed.
We loved the onsen and especially the 6th floor one. What an experience!
I also really loved all their shower products. My hair has never been so shiny and soft! Where can I buy them please??
The free ice cream and the biscuits were excellent provision.
The breakfast and dinner at the Buffett were great with lots of choice but I would prefer if they had some different options every day. If you are trying to pack light, don’t worry about carrying make up remover, face wash, razors, hairbrush and even pyjamas or clothes! They provide you with everything including a kimono you can use to walk around property and even during dinner.
My only slight issue was that I was supposed to have a food and drink credit which I asked for and they said that as I have dinner included they would provide it with dinner. Well the dinner already had drinks included and they offered us a glass of sparkling wine in addition. I would have preferred to have the choice to use my credit for the lounge to have some cocktails.
Overall, extremely satisfied with our stay!

I took the taxi so I couldn’t say about the free shuttle, but the onsen was perfect that I would return again. The sushi in the Hakone dining buffet was fresh. The unlimited amount of alcohol in the buffet surprised me. The Mountain View from the private bath and the 6th floor open air bath were so pretty. The staff was cordial too. The room was so nice that I didn’t feel like going outside for my stay. There’s an underpass within the hotel that takes you to morinoyu and the kowaiken water park for the family. I would definitely go again soon and recommend it for people experiencing an onsen for the first time.

The TEN-YU was an exceptional experience. The staff recieve you as if you just arrived home. The whole ambience is of relaxation and de stressing. Enjoyed a fabulous aromatherapy massage at the onsite AnSpa, which was in the most serene location.

The Tepanyaki dinner was something else!! Beautifully prepared starters and delicious cuts of the best Kobe beef.

We were able to unwind immediately from a long trip and made it a stay i will never forget!!!

We stayed at a room with personal onsen. The tub was a bit small and it takes 15 min to fill each time, but the view and area was divine. We had a wilderness view and had a swing chair that was super comfy. The room was set up with two futons and two beds for our family of four. Overall very nice room, and they included pajamas and yukatas for all of us. They had some refreshments at the time of check in and had free seventeen ice - ice cream cones/bars throughout our stay. We were shuttled to our kaiseki dinner that included a small shabu shabu portion with wagyu beef. Breakfast was insane with the amount of options available. Oden, western, raw fish, curry, bacon, fruits, veg shot, champagne, beer, juice, grilled fish, espresso machine, dessert, omg way too much food, but all so good. We took the shuttle in and out of Gora which was on time and every 20 min. We barely missed our bus out, so we spent a few minutes at the foot baths right at the door. The views were nice there and it's a nice end to our stay.

The hotel is great - we had a bath on our deck, the amenities were great and the buffet was extensive. The covercharge in the lounge was not necessary and annoying.

We had a wonderful stay at this property. Our family of four (kids 9 and 7) loved the pool, buffet and the room was large. The beds were comfortable and the staff are so kind. The free ice cream vending machines were our kiddos fave!
