This was our first trip to Hakone, so we can’t compare this hotel’s location to other areas, but we absolutely loved the peaceful atmosphere here. It’s perfect for anyone looking for quiet, rest, and truly attentive service. Our room with three beds was very spacious, comfortable, and had a beautiful view.

We enjoyed early walks by the lake and appreciated the convenience of having both dinner and breakfast on-site. We chose the Japanese dinner, which was presented beautifully, though we probably haven’t fully acquired the taste yet. The French breakfast, however, was excellent; the French toast was the best we’ve had, and the coffee was great as well. We were also lucky to catch a wonderful view of Mt. Fuji.

We didn’t use the onsen since it was public-only and we weren’t comfortable with that, but everything else made our stay very enjoyable. We rented a car, which made exploring the area simple, though it seems manageable by public transportation too, since the hotel runs a shuttle every 20 minutes (with an evening cutoff). The hotel is a bit older, but everything was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. Overall, a very relaxing and memorable stay.

I would definitely stay here again when visiting Hakone. Easy and scenic walk along the lakeside from the bus stop or you can take the complimentary shuttle that runs every 20 minutes.

The staff both at the front desk and the Japanese restaurant were very helpful and spoke excellent English - we did not try the French restaurant so no review on that. We were checked in very fast and had our luggage held for a few hours after checkout. Food is average, but you can't beat the convenience and the service is top tier.

Our room was very spacious and clean with an excellent view for the lake. Unlike most other hotels in Japan, the room had very good soundproofing. Carpeting is dated and a bit worn, but very clean. Yukatas for going to the bath are provided. Make sure to grab a complimentary ice pop after your bath!

We had a very peaceful and relaxing stay.

Hotel next to the lake with amazing views - service was very good but facilities need upgrading and remodeling. Very limited options to move around unless you bring a car - access to taxi is very limited: options for food at the hotel are limited but we had dinner one of the nights and it was excellent. Japanese breakfast was a unique experience but it is not for everyone.

Unmatched location, all rooms look over the stunning 1930’s garden and magnificent mountains and lake, no bad views! The hotel exudes old world charm, and while some may find this ‘dated’ we found it delightful. The Franco-Japanese -Deco blend carries through to cuisine and 2 fantastic restaurants (though not for the budget conscious). A truly unique and memorable stay. Would come back in a heart beat.

Perfect lake side hotel in Hakone. The oversized room had more than enough space for three of us plus our luggage. The staff was very warm and friendly. We chose not to have dinner at the hotel but we did visit the French restaurant for breakfast and it was wonderful. The food was delicious and the staff was very attentive. The onsen was also enjoyed. Great property and I would definitely stay again.

Rooms were very large and had a fantastic lake view! Very clean with many amenities included, my favorite being their traditional onsen. It is open very early in the morning and late at night. It had everything you needed and the outdoor onsen was extremely relaxing and refreshing after a long day hiking. Additionally, I have sensitive skin and my skin did not react to their onsen water, unlike the onsen I tried in Gora. So safe for sensitive skin people! Staff was extremely friendly and responsive. The only downside was that there were 2 high end restaurants that required reservations. Most places in town close at 5pm, so those restaurants were really our only options. However, they had not a single reservation open for the entirety of our staff. We ended up having to walk a mile (in the dark w/ flashlights) to the convenience store every night (~6pm) for dinner. So maybe try to book reservations ahead of your stay! But their amenities and onsen made it very worthwhile!

I really enjoyed my time at this stately hotel. The staff are beyond helpful, the room was very comfortable, and the baths were just what I needed after a long day exploring the region. The restaurant was able to accommodate my gluten-free needs for breakfast and the shuttle bus from Motohakone was great. This is a region that needs to be experienced and this is the place to do it in comfort.

This is a very luxurious hotel with a nice onsen. Beautiful gardens and incredible view of Mt Fuji if you are on the garden side which I think on the rooms are facing the garden and lake. Nice paths through the trees to the shrine and “downtown” area but don’t plan a run, it’s made of cobblestone type bricks so your ankles would suffer. Shuttle to/from downtown every 20 minutes if you don’t want to walk.

Hotel was excellent. I was shocked to find I had booked for 1 Adult and was asked to pay a supplement for my wife. This was A$495 for the 3 nights.
This was a 2 week trip will all rooms booked on Hotels.com.
This is the first time HOTELS.com had a 1 person room...

The hotel is nice and on the higher end. The grounds are magnificent and the view to the lake is wonderful. In a nice day (which we had) you can see Fuji mountain clearly from the terrace. The only downsides were the bar with a bit of a gloomy vibe and a lack of a snack shop (as there is nothing open in the evening within walking distance from the hotel). Overall a great stay and I hope to return there in the future.

Did not give perfect score because there is only public bath option available; and, you must have a reservation to eat dinner at the Japanese restaurant and that was not communicated to me at check-in. There is however the option for room service to order a Japanese meal at a reasonable price.

Excellente service, cleanliness and the views of Mount Fuji were fantastic. Much better from the hotel than the five lakes tour we did!
There is a shuttle service that goes from the port to the hotel every 20 minutes which stops at 5pm. It meant we had to walk 15 minutes in the dark to the hotel with our luggage because we couldn't work out where to get a taxi from. This was dangerous and the hotel really should have some kind of warning about this for visitors.

The location is great, right above the shrine. Do wish we could have understood a little more about the buses but had it figured out by the second day. The weather wasn’t great when we were there but so happy we stayed at this hotel.

We went to the Odakyu Hakone Lake Hotel and that we booked that one but once we checked in and found out we went to the wrong hotel. The front desk clerk was super nice. He helped us to call our hotel but they didn’t come to put us up at all. And he called few taxi companies but no one was available. Then Odakyu manager told him to drive us to our hotel.

The location and views - spectacular! Was very lucky to get very clear views of Mt Fuji on my first full day there. I also booked in for a spa session and while expensive, was worth every cent. The staff of the hotel were extremely professional, friendly and efficient and spoke adequate English.
The rooms were very spacious, however being an old hotel, the walls are not very soundproofed and on my second/last night I was able to hear the people in the room next door very profoundly. While this is by no means the hotel's fault, I think it is worth mentioning. I ate my two breakfasts and a dinner at the French restaurant there and cannot fault the staff for their professionalism of service. The free shuttle from the town centre (Motohakone) to the hotel is a particular plus - not that the distance to walk is far but with luggage, in the dark or bad weather it is hugely convenient! Would have been nice if there was free bottled water in the room though. Would stay here again.

The view and the gardens were spectacular, as was the onsen. The stars of the show, were the Japanese and French restaurants. Order the breakfast/dinner options and treat yourself to fine dining, with attentive staff in a lovely setting. Though the rooms could do with a little updating, this venue is perfect for a romantic or meditative getaway.

The hotel is beautifully situated with gorgeous views of the lake. It was raining during our stay so we could not see Mt. Fuji, but I am sure the view would be spectacular. The facilities are a bit worn and the furnishings dated, but the room was of good size, comfortable, and clean. The onsen is gorgeous, nestled under trees and was incredibly soothing. The highlight of our hotel experience was the Spa where my husband and I had 90 minute side-by-side full body massages. We are massage snobs and this was one of the best massages we've ever had. Afterward, we sat relaxing sipping tea while taking in the breathtaking scenery of the misty lake and mountains. We are in both the French & Japanese hotel restaurants. The food was good and the views beautiful.

This hotel greatly exceeded our expectations. I would merely advise them to get a better interiors photographer because the rooms and particularly the onsen are just beautiful. The staff are first class, the whole service is really exceptional; from the porters to the reception to the silver service restaurant staff, it’s all very luxurious.

All the rooms are on the front, so have lake views (and my gosh, what views), and the walk into Motohakone is stunning, along the lake side path. Passing Hakone shrine on the way. All in all, a perfect stay, we stayed 3 nights.

If you’re looking for a quiet, relaxing stay in Hakone; this is the property for you. EVERYTHING was top notch. We did splurge on the top floor suite with the private onsen which made the experience even more magical but every guest received the same amazing service and overall experience. From check-in to departure; we felt pampered.

The location is perfect if you’re looking for a retreat from the fast-paced action of other areas in Japan. There are no doubt other properties closer to late night restaurants or activities but if you stay near Hakone-Moto; you’re in for a quieter experience.

Art Deco style hotel with clean rooms, beautifully situated within walking distance of town and several local attractions. Offers French and Japanese dining within the hotel and dessert available on the lake across the street. Bus available to take you directly here from Shinjuku station and with one bus change directly to Haneda. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful.

Nice place. The restaurant offerings are extremely limited and very expensive. I just walked to the town for dinner each night but everything closes very early like around 5 or 6. I found one place that was open late called \"Box\" that is also a little boutique hotel. The food was amazing, the on site onsen was nice but small. They had an outdoor part to the onsen and a sauna/shower which I enjoyed the most. This hotel is only a few minutes walk from Hakone shrine if that is important to you.

Hotel and onsen facility is top quality. The only reason it loses a star is because it is very remote and the immediate area has absolutely no places to eat, especially after about 5 or 6PM. Places close extremely early so don't expect to find anything to eat for dinner. The shuttle/bus system during the day is great but ends around 5PM so if you plan on returning back to hotel after this time(which is most people), expect to walk back. (No taxis either) But their amazing onsen made up for everything.

Staff really helpful. Location very good. Rooms are tired. Food good but expensive.

Muy cerca de Motohakone-ko. El hotel tiene servicio se shuttle hasta el pueblo. Muy cerca andando del santuario de Hakone y de su famoso tori en el lago.
