I came to Comfort Suites in Merrillville, IN to celebrate my birthday to check into my room and found it filthy. The floors had not been vacuumed, trash behind the bed, sheets looked like it had old blood stains on them, bathroom was dirty so I went to the front desk and reported the issues. The front desk clerk gave us another room and that room was nasty as well so went back downtowns and clerk gave me another room.This last room was ok but it wasn’t up to satisfactory. My cousin had a room as well and her room didn’t even have heat and needed to change room as well. The whole weekend stay at this hotel was a mess and I’m very upset and will be contacting corporate office along with sending pictures.

The rooms were very clean and the staff was amazing. The heat in one of our rooms wasn’t working and they sent someone to fix it right away. The pool was kind of cloudy but as a pool owner, I don’t blame the hotel, I blame the guests that don’t shower as instructed before swimming! Hot tub was perfect! Overall, we had an amazing night and would definitely book again!

Hotel overall was awful, but the room was disgusting. Everything was dirty, hair and stains on the bed. Trash under the hide a bed. The mattress on the hide a bed was so old and brown it looked like it came from an 70 year old smokers auction. It was so gross all the kids refused to sleep on it. There were suspicios stains on the couch cushions, dried boogers on the pillows, and the air conditioning was crap. We turned it down as far as we could go and stil sweat all night. The hotel smelled like pot and the breakfast didnt taste very good. The paint on the ceiling above the pool was peeling. Worst hotel ive ever stayed in.

This property is too close to the interstate so if you are noise-sensitive, it is not a good idea. Television in the room did not work and they could not fix it. They offered another room but it would have been too much to move at 9pm at night. They have a sitting area but the television is on the wall facing the bed instead of the sitting area. Toilet was brown underneath the rim and the shower plunger was rusted and crusted.

When I checked in the room it was filthy. The toilet had feces all around the toilet. Towels in the room had blood on it. Throw up in the garbage can. The internet kept going in and out no connection for the tv. I mention it to the people who worked there who just gave me stuff to clean it up and didn't send anyone to do so. I will never come back again.

This hotel was not clean at all. The floors in the lobby, elevator, and especially the room itself, looked like they haven't been swept, vacuumed, or mopped in years. Bed sheets and comforters were stained with yellow and red spots. Pull out sofa was covered in trash under the cushions and the mattress was so stained and covered in dust and debris that it was completely unusable. I had to strip some sheets off of the queen beds to cover up the couch with layers not pulled out just so my fifth person had someplace to sleep that wasn't totally disgusting. Front desk guy was very rude and short. Aside from the absolute disgusting facility they also don't open the pool until 11am which is the time of check out so if you think you can let your kids swim the morning before you leave think again. At the rate of filth everywhere else though I would dare check out a pool there anyways. Overall 1/10 do not recommend.

They weren’t staying at the hotel but huge red flags to what their intentions were! It made us uncomfortable enough that we left early the morning of our departure instead of letting the kids swim and hangout.

While staff was friendly, the property was not not worth the $500+ including the $100 deposit. You can see the hallways, the stairwells, and the rooms haven't been vacuumed in a good 6 months or longer. I took pictures! Because of issues with the rooms, we went through 3 rooms. That's how we knew none of the rooms had been cleaned. The first roomed smelled like a combination of urine and being mopped with dirty water. The second room had the same smell but the toilet was broken. Looked like it had been broken for a while. The 3rd room smelled but we sprayed a something for smells. There were as my kid called it, poo stains on the ceiling. Stains on the sheets. Stains on the curtains, stains on the lamps, stains on the carpet. Holes in the curtain. The pull out couches had stains and the first room had what looked to be flakes of some kind on the arms of the couch. We were there for a funeral and my daughter's first time to the area and it wasn't a comfortable stay overall. I have a few pictures if I need to send them in.

only issue I had with my room was the TV wasn't working. Had the poor service desk guy up 3 times to try and fix it. Remote didn't power on TV, fixed that, then sound button on remote wouldn't turn up so I had TV but no sound. So now big deal except had to put over blanket so I could sleep. Told manager the next day. The ac worked but didn't stay on long, so for sound noises to sleep I opened the window to fall asleep to the semi trucks from the interstate.

The lobby smell awful upon walking in. Two sets of sheets were stained, we didn’t let our kids use the blankets because they were dirty, the floor was gross. I walked in the breakfast area and turned around immediately and told my kids we go somewhere else because of how disgusting it was. The pool area was so dark you couldn’t see anything and the kids didn’t get in because of how cold the water was. Extremely disappointed in every aspect of this stay.

My dad and I booked a two night room for an upcoming family reunion. Our room was clean, which was very important. However, during check-in, a guest was complaining about the lack of parking, as they had nowhere to park their car. It was torrential-like rain outside and they had a baby. The reviews for this hotel were mixed (i.e. noisy, unsafe place to stay), but we did not experience this. My biggest complaint was at check-in. My reservation was made under both of our names, but I checked in before my dad. I had to pay for our stay, although my dad had planned to do this. Expedia should ensure that this info is given to potential guests prior to booking.

At first I thought it was just for that morning if they run out that's it but no it was for literally the whole week they would not restock food items. I accidently booked this hotel thinking it was in close proximity to where I was while I was traveling. After it was booked I tried to cancel it but I could not because it was the same day. That is frustrating and a complete waste of money. the fact that I was unable to cancel 2 minutes after booking it as it was a mistake will completely make me rethink using Hotels.com in the future.

While the room itself was as expected, this turned out to be the worst hotel experience of our lives. We are a family of five (three kids and a service animal) traveling cross-country, checking in close to 10 PM for a quick overnight before an early departure. Instead, we spent the night breathing acetone fumes.
Around 11:15 PM, a strong, acidic nail salon smell flooded our room from next door, making my fiancé physically ill. The front desk confirmed a guest was “professionally” doing nails in their room with no ventilation. We were offered a room change, but with three kids finally asleep and a 5 AM alarm set, it wasn’t realistic. Towels under the door barely helped as the fumes lingered.
At 12:30 AM, I spent 40 minutes on the phone with customer service, only to be told they could “pass a message” to the owner since this was a partnered hotel. The owner called me around 10 AM, hours after we had left with splitting migraines, promising a resolution and to call me back “in an hour or two.” It’s now been over 20 hours with no response. A “future stay credit” was also offered, but we’ll never return to Merrillville, making it useless.
Between toxic fumes, yelling neighbors, zero real resolution, and being ignored by management, this was an absolutely miserable experience. Comfort should be embarrassed to have their name on this property.

Old apple was left behind couch along with a handwritten note attached to the tv from prior guest talking about how bad their stay was. The staff said we couldn’t get a mattress until the next day as the maintenance was gone for the day ( at check in time) We had to sleep 3 in a bed. The next day they replaced the mattress with another dirty mattress, I kid you not! Room was never vacuumed, couldn’t put bags on floor. Dirt all around the room. Regular mattress also dirty on sides, didn’t even address that issue since we knew it wouldn’t make a difference. Have a 3 because staff was friendly. Police surveillance parking lot all day and at night!

The fire alarm started going off and the fire department had to come. Comes to find out, someone was smoking in their room. That was such an inconvenience. The room wasn't bad but when i let the couch out, the mattress was horrible. It was stained so badly and they didnt have sheets to go on the mattress. When i went to tell the guy at thr service desk, all he could offee me was some sheets instead of switching out the matress. The fridge did not get cold at all and at this point, i didnt care to complain because the way the attendant responded to the mattress situation, i frlt he wasnt going to do anything about the fridge.

Hotel was conveniently located, and beds were comfortable. Aside from that, the stay was way below average for a Comfort Suites.
Room was dirty, chain lock was half broken, pillowcases and comforter were stained, curtains were broken. We had three people in the room and had 2 towels and no washcloths. Microwaved bacon looked raw. Keys were deactivated at 6 a.m. on our last day and elevator was broken.
Pool was cloudy, and paint was peeling off. Would never stay here again.

It was good. I upgraded to a bigger room which was great. I only took away a point because the floors were nasty and definitely needed a deep cleaning or better, to be replaced. There was sticky stuff on the floors. I had babies so it was hard for us since they kept gravitating to the floors to play. But I did enjoy the hotel. Hopefully they replace them. Especially if babies are involved for the rooms they send them to.

I booked a room with two beds and a pull-out couch, but the hotel had it under one King bed. They upgraded the room for us.
The beds were ok. The carpet has sticky stains. The shower head needed to be upgraded as it didn't change positions well. The shower pressure was only decent on one setting that was a focused stream.
The breakfast was ok, but needed to be refilled a little more frequently.

This hotel isn’t worth the rate that they charge. Not even close! Room was so-so at best. Bathroom floor hadn’t been mopped in weeks. House keeping never cleaned the room while we were there, even after we requested service. The desk clerk cleaned our room one night because my wife complained. The continental breakfast is served from 6:00 to 9:00. I don’t know about other people but I don’t get up they damn early when I’m on vacation so I never tried the breakfast. We paid over $100 per night for our stay. This hotel shouldn’t charge more than $60 a night. It’s not worth more than that.

The hotel is in a convenient location for business travelers or those headed to Chicago. I only needed a place to sleep for a night. The stay here was “fine” but if the need arises I will probably try my luck elsewhere.

Cons: Hotel is dated and in need of a refresh. The parking lot needs to be cleaned/swept. The room I stayed in needed vacuuming. The door to my room had clearly been repaired such that I had to “hip check” the door to open and close it. The safety latch on the interior of the door was broken. I tried to use the treadmill only to find that it was broken.

Pros: Staff was friendly. Internet was very good. Thermostat worked well.

Comfort Close to Chicago

Merriville is a great place to stay to be close to Chicago but not IN Chicago. This hotel is close and next to a mall and plenty of dining options. Just know it isn’t the Hilton, but it’s also not a Super 8. It’s perfect for a one- or two-night stay for an event in or around Chicago.

A great suite size room for a great price, shower was hot, water pressure decent and breakfast was just okay. We stayed as a travel team so the only real complaint was the lobby couch and chairs were not a lot room to hang out and chat for long, wish the breakfast area was open all evening as our girls love to gather and play cards or board games and there wasn’t room for that. Although we warned by an umpire on the field to take all valuables up to our room due to location, we had no issues there.

We had a wonderful one-day stay with our family for my daughter's basketball tournament. The property was excellent, and our room was lovely. The location was ideal, being close to restaurants and a shopping mall. We would gladly stay here again.
