Great hotel to stay in Georgetown! First the staff was amazing, always ready to help, gave us several tips, marked the must see places on a map and how to get there, they were all great! The hotel is well located with main attractions walking distance: hotel is really well kept. Restaurant is really good and the service was really good. Rooms were clean and the daily treats were really good. Overall I would go back, no hesitation

Superb in every way. This former Penang shophouse has deservedly won awards as Malaysia’s best boutique hotel. The location is excellent, and the decor lovely, but it is the service and the staff that take it well beyond 5 stars. Over our 10 night stay we were made to feel simultaneously like family and celebrity VIPs. A bonus is the 4-times Michelin recognized Italian restaurant (Il Bacaro) on site.

I would definitely recommend this hotel to visitors of Georgetown. It is a charming and quaint hotel. It is in a great location and the hotel staff are beyond gracious and hospitable. The morning breakfast was also delicious. My only one (small) heads up is to avoid using their 3rd party laundry service. I was not pleased with things in that sense. Otherwise, it was great experience!

Friendly boutique hotel in the heart of Georgetown
We picked Campbell House for it's location and weren't disappointed as it is a short walk from the likes of Love Lane with a great selection of bars and restaurants. Had a great time exploring the local area, spotting all the wall art/murals. Also really convenient for using Grab to get a taxi to Penang Hill and Kek Lok See temple. The rooms are stylish and comfortable (we were in the Loft, a duplex room) and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. Added bonus having a fantastic, authentic Italian restaurant on-site which is where you have breakfast. So good we ate there twice in the evening over the course of our 4 night stay. Highly recommend if you want to be in the midst of Georgetown

A luxury gem in a great location
Our stay at Campbell House was wonderful, and we couldn't recommend this hotel more highly. The whole team were amazing at their roles, but Kumar was a star, making us feel immediately welcome and also recommending great sights and eateries for us. The hotel itself is beautifully decorated and immerses guests in history whilst keeping all modern amenities. The daily desserts and welcome beverages were an especially appreciated touch. We really appreciated the no shoes policy, as it helped us to feel comfortable and assured us that the rooms were clean and well cared for. We also appreciated how seamlessly the hotel managed with Penang authority water maintenance works - we had everything we needed and didn't deal with any disturbances. We look forward to visiting again, and have already recommended the hotel to friends and family.

Incredible, our favourite hotel this trip!
We had a wonderful time staying at Campbell House. We felt incredibly welcome, the rooms were clean and well kept and the hotel kept so much of its heritage and charm. The staff were wonderful, the terrace was lovely and the on-site restaurant is break. If we are back in Georgetown, we will definitely come back here!

The good: the staff were friendly and helpful, the breakfast, the overall ambiance and condition (beautiful restoration of the building), free cake every day was a lovely touch.
The less good: standard room is smaller than expected and lacks charm (bed is also only a small double), wooden floors look good but are very slippery (you have to take off your shoes downstairs) and the rugs on top slide so much as to be dangerous.
The bad: we were clearly unlucky, but our air conditioning would not get cold, an attempt to fix it managed only a slight improvement, sleeping so badly in the heat left us groggy every morning and unable to enjoy the breakfast. Lovely staff tried to help, but it was out of their control.

A delightful stay in the heart of old town. Each room is a unique individual creation with vintage furnishings. The breakfast is amazing and the staff is knowledgeable and helpful. Everyday the chef creates a special desert and delivers it to each of the twelve boutique rooms. A must stay if you are going to Georgetown, Malaysia.

We had a fantastic stay at this beautiful and cozy hotel. The staff is phenomenal and each person made us feel welcomed. The breakfast was delicious giving us the energy we needed for long days of touring the city. A special treat was coming back and having a dessert left in the fridge for us to enjoy before settling in for the night. And we got so many wonderful recommendations for sightseeing and restaurants to check out. This place is truly a gem and I’d be thrilled to have a second stay on our next trip to Penang!

Location is EXCELLENT for foodies to Penang! Lots of great food choices within short walking distance or even on the same block. Many Michelin mentioned food stalls and restaurants near by. This hotel is a 100+ year old home turned into boutique hotel that services like a normal hotel. If you like history and antiques this would be heaven for you.

I love this hotel, is in heritage site of Georgetown. Is like staying in a hotel but more of historical house. The services are excellent. Campbell House is a lovely restored property owned by a wonderful couple with an amazing staff of kind, friendly, helpful locals who went out of their way to see to our every need. From the owners, themselves (setting a stellar example to follow), to the night watchman who checked us in @ midnight with a much-appreciated snack; the front desk staff who pointed us in the correct directions for food, shopping, temples, etc., to the servers in the Michelin-starred on-site restaurant who packed us breakfast for our very early flight out of Penang; we felt like we had hit the jackpot of boutique properties. Should we ever venture to his area of the world again, we would most definitely look forward to being warmly welcomed back to Campbell House by Roberto and Nardya and their loyal staff.

A very nice small hotel. Good service and the rooms are very well appointed and comfortable. Staff is attentive and informative. Great area. Only drawback is a lack of a lift although they are accommodating by hositing you luggage up to the floors where the rooms are.

Wonderful stay that the hotel has upgraded us to deluxe room as the standard room air cond is not working. The room is clean, and provided with compliment daily homemade bakery which is delicious. Elegant boutique hotel
A beautiful and elegant boutique hotel. A little bit noisy but a perfect location to explore the nuances and treasures of old Penang. Service was first class, the restaurant also excellent. Breakfast was included and was sumptuous and plentiful. We had The Loft room but next time would prefer the larger single level rooms which are more user friendly I feel. The decor is world class and owner Nadia has kept the feel of the colonial times with modern conveniences Thankyou. We’re going to make this our regular staycation!

Very helpful staff on arrival. Best hotel in Penang’s historical district. I did encounter a problem st checkin though. I believe that breakfast was included with the room. They claim it was not ands I looked at my Expedia receipt and it was not. I don’t fault the hotel but Expedia for this. It’s like bait and switch!

What a lovely hotel nothing was too much for them. Location was great, welcome was great, let us know what to visit and where to find food. Room was lovely everything you could need. We have booked 4 rooms for 2 nights for our family of 10, ranging from 7 to 75 years old. I only heard about good things from our family members once we done the trip and start discussing about the hotel we have chosen. Each room is well decorated with its own style and theme. So we are exciting to know what the color and them the other rooms are. The front desks are helpful and ready to help or give advice on anything you migt have. The location is perfect, especially if you plan to explore street art and want to try dim sum from one of the most popular resterants in town. Tai Tong is quite on the opposite. There was a bit of noise during the night since the floor is made from wood. But not much, you can still sleep well. The western style breakfast is also quite good, although you can try the morning street food just nearby the premise.

Love the fact that the place makes you feel right at home with its heavy wooden furniture, and having to remove your shoes to go upstairs. Every aspect of the stay in the room itself was really great, no complaints.

We told her we had two soups and a noodle dish, which she insisted the kitchen would plate for us. In the end, they mixed BOTH soups into one giant bowl (they were actually two different types, which we mentioned when we passed them to her), and that ruined our dinner completely.
We also called the reception once we were done to pick up our tray because there's little space in the room to leave it, and we found out much later why no one came up to collect it (in spite of her answering our call and saying she would) - she apparently left her shift without informing anyone of our request. Great Boutique Hotel in the Heritage District
I stayed 5 nights in the Opium Room. This was a lovely comfortable corner room with Chinese style decor and a large light-filled bathroom. From the moment I arrived the staff were wonderful. I was given a full rundown of the attractions of Georgetown and surrounds as well as advice for dining and drinking in the local area. I was also given a full orientation of the hotel and the room and how everything worked. The great service extended to the Dining Room where the excellent a la carte breakfasts were served. Overall an excellent stay.

We stayed in the Malay Room, a large comfortable room. Quiet, relaxed atmosphere. Right in the center of town. Staff very helpful. Quite possibly the cleanest hotel I've ever stayed in. Breakfast in the hotel restaurant was wonderful - try the salmon eggs Benedict. Quirk: you have to take your shoes off before you can go upstairs! Not a problem although some foreigners may find it unusual. Another quirk: the Internet had a tendency to be a little irregular, but it wasn't a serious problem. If we're back in George Town we will definitely stay here again.

Hotel is located in the heart of the old section of Georgetown. This was originally a colonial home that has been converted into a 12 room hotel with restaurant. The hotel and rooms contain original antique furniture, fixtures &rugs but have been updated with modern bathrooms and air conditioning. Luggage is hoisted to the upper floors via a rope and pulley. A western style breakfast was provided and was very substantial. The staff was the best part. They were extremely helpful and courteous. The only issue can be some noise from traffic.

We appreciated how everyone went out of their way to make us feel at home as well as the suggestions on things to do. We had a great day at the Tropical Spice Gardens and despite the rain enjoyed walking around George Town to view all of the street art. Show on Google MapsAcquired back in 2011, Muntri Grove was originally a row of 10 modest houses built as living quarters for workers serving the wealthy families of the grand houses of Muntri Street. These double-storey houses were some of the early houses built in the 19th century with low roofs, small living spaces, and only two rooms each unit.
As with most buildings built during that era, these terrace houses feature British influences but the materials used were more modest such as single brick walls and wooden partitions upstairs between the houses. Restoration works on the houses started in 2013, where the architectural framework was maintained as close to its original forms as possible with only minor additions to strengthen the structures as they are.
The original parts of the house such as roof trusses, windows, and doors were repaired, maintained, and replaced. Access to the rooms on the ground floor is through the original front doors while on the first floor, the rooms are accessible through an impressive 130 feet-long veranda at the back of the houses.
Each housing unit was transformed into two large rooms, one on the ground and one upstairs, each spanning an area of about 450 square feet to afford wide, spacious rooms for guests. The 10th house at the corner was destroyed during World War II and space was rebuilt to house an elevated swimming pool and breakfast area on the first floor and the reception area on the ground floor.

Under Ong's skillful touch, the collection of Edwardian era buildings, which were in various stages of disrepair at that time, was transformed into contemporary accommodation, complete with original wooden windows, doors, and roof trusses. The Grade II heritage building was originally the mews meant for the row of grand terrace houses built along the street during an era of affluence.
The rooms upstairs were originally built as quarters for drivers and syce at that time. The long verandah that connected the rooms had remained, lending a feel of communal living amongst the workers during that period.
This led to a common set of bathroom and kitchen that serviced the people that lived there.
