Rooms are beautifully and interestingly decorated and furnished, I think in the style of a well heeled Chinese family of a bygone era. Both rooms 8 and 9 are huge, especially 9.
We were quickly offered a change to room 9 because the air conditioning unit in room 8 needed attention.
Breakfast was à la carte, well cooked and sufficient.

To rate this hotel 4 stars is likely calling Donald Trump a Rhodes Scholar. Old, outdated, marginally clean, the bathroom of a hostel at best. The best I can say is that the attached cafe is pretty good. Very poor value for the money.

The room door : I got locked in from out side the room door by house keep staff , and there was no staff in the building I can reach , even open the window screaming for unlocked the door , I was waiting more than 40 mins to wait one staff to walked by ..

It's a beautiful old place and an amazing room - not sure I've ever had a three-piece suite in a room before - but then you notice that there are wooden shutters closed tight over all the main windows so it's pretty gloomy without the lights on. But then in the morning you realise that the transom windows let in the morning light, so you're waking up then whether you wanted to or not. I also didn't like that the door bolted from the outside, or that the cleaners sometimes only used that and not the key, so anyone could have come in when I was out. It's also noisy - a local bar or club till late and you can also hear other guests in nearby rooms.

Being on a unesco world heritage site, I loved their use of Old colonial furniture and fixtures. Staff were great. Very friendly. Great breakfast. Right in the middle of old town Georgetown. Close to the free CAT shuttle bus. The Red Village market a perfect place for great reasonably priced dinner. Would stay there again

The hotel is split between two (perhaps more) buildings - the main one and an additional one across the road. I’m not sure if this determines the overall experience. We were upstairs across the road and it felt like taking advantage of a heritage building without much other effort. The room itself was very spacious but the furniture certainly wasn’t period rather a mix of very tatty old items and current furniture. There were two beds jammed together. Neither was big enough for two but each was enormous for one person so we were miles apart. The beds were hard. The shower was good. Was it value for money - I personally don’t think so. Too many other places to stay so don’t think we will be back here.

It was an absolute privilege to stay at Muntri Mews for 3 nights. The room we were appointed was stunning (77D) with a four poster bed (very comfortable) and a lovely large, squishy sofa that was perfect to relax on. We were one skip away jump away from the cafe which served us a delicious breakfast from the menu each morning, which included a glass of fresh orange juice and hot drink of your choice. The scrambled eggs with smoked salmon were perfect.
The staff were very kind and welcoming throughout. The commonunal living room is absolutely stunning, full of antiques and is like a museum. In the afternoons, they serve afternoon tea there, which is a nice treat.
The location is perfect and it's right in the heart of the heritage zone. George town is a very walkable place, and the hotel is central to everything you'd want to see.
A truly unforgettable stay.

When we arrived we were given a room across the road from the main building which had to go up a narrow winding staircases. The problem was none of the two airconditioners in the room was working properly and hardly had any cool air coming out of it, despite 34C temperature outside.The room had no windows to see outside and the whole room was like an oven. I immediately asked to change to another room, but the staff said the hotel was full and no other rooms available and we could only be able to change to another room the next day. After the staff left, I discovered one of the airconditioners was actually blowing hot air into the room, so I went back to the reception and the two staff came to the room trying to fix it without success, they then said they would see whether they could do something about it, 15 mins later the staff came back saying they had another room available for us. This new room was in the main building which was way better than the previous one. We stayed there for 4 nights and had were happy after changing to the new room.This experience tells me the first room we were offered should not be used as a guest room as the windows were totally blocked and the two airconditioners were not working. Had I not made a complaint again we would have to sleep in an oven!

Hidden Gem in the Old Town, \nof Georgetown

We spent 3 nights at Muntri Mews from May 6 to the 8th. It was such a hidden gem in old town Georgetown, Penang. Ayu at the front desk was exceptionally helpful from check-in to check-out, suggesting places to visit and giving dirctions to get there. The breakfast was good with a good choice of eggs, French Bread and Malaysian food.

Always try to stay in a heritage or local hotel. Feels like a living museum, so you will hear some creaks and light neighbourhood noise, but that's the beauty of staying somewhere that has personality and satisfies those who are curious about life. As well as the Mews cafe and shady courtyard, there are many places to eat and enjoy coffee in the immediate area. The staff are welcoming and helpful. Thank you for a lovely and safe stay. Note to management: a larger tip box with a bigger slot is needed - your people are worth it.

An oasis

This is probably one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever stayed in. Even better, it is in a perfect location to explore Georgetown, while still being quiet and peaceful.
Moreover, the staff are getting excellent and accommodating. They helped us plan trips to the national park and gave invaluable advice.
The hotel restaurant is also excellent. In particular we loved the roti canai at breakfast.
I cannot recommend Muntri Mews enough, and I hope to return.

This boutique hotel is such a gem! They look after every detail to make your stay memorable. The furniture, wall art, the food…transfers you to the old Georgetown.
We stayed in room G and the decor was amazing yet conformable.
The stuff was kind and very accommodating.

Muntri Mews exceed my expectations. I loved this heritage style hotel with the original architecture. I love the size of the rooms and the charm and character of staying in an older building. The hotel was centrally located. There is even a cafe right now door. Walking distance to all the main tourist attractions and eating. I would definitely stay here again next time I'm in Penang.

This is a restored property, so it was such a treat to stay here during our stay in Penang. The history surrounding the property and the area is what we were looking forward to see, and we hope to go back in the future.

Property was unique as its in an old terrace house. However, it could have been better maintained, the room was a little dusty and floorboards were creaky. If you are looking to stay in an old house for that vintagey feel, its not bad.

Not really ideal for young families or elderly travellers as there are stairs to climb to the room and in the loft which are slightly steep. The rooms are not partitioned but its really spacious.

Check in and out were smooth, courteous front desk.

Muntri Mews embodies the essence of a heritage hotel, with beautifully restored architecture and a quaint living compound environment. The rooms were large and cozily decorated. It would be great if reception could keep to their claim of 24x7 and stock up on room amenities such as tea bags, rinsing glass, face towels. Housekeeping for subsequent days can also improve. Overall it was still an enjoyable stay and definitely memorable. I will consider returning in future.

what an amazing experience. Living in such a well restored historic house was part of my Penang experience. I loved my room, and especially the bed, I slept so well. The shower and toilet is so beautiful and clean it’s very key to me when I travel. Linda at reception and staff overall are so kind and friendly. The other places around Chulia Street is buzzing with noise. I was greatly go in such a quiet space and within walking distance you join the buzz. Penang is a must visit and Muntri Mews a must. Don’t book at muntri grove unless you like their neighboring karaoke bar which goes on to 3am!!! Friends stayed they and had to move to Mews becos of the noise. But I give Muntri Mews 5 stars

I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights with my husband and toddler. We were upgraded from a Standard room to a Family room on arrival which was amazing, my toddler had a huge bed to himself and the room was extremely beautiful and spacious. The bathroom was also huge. The wifi was good and the location of the hotel was awesome, right next to Love Lane and the really great food court around the corner which we frequented for dinner. Little India and Chine Town are also a quick walk. The only improvement I could suggest is a bit more variety for Breakfast at the Cafe. The staff were very friendly though and all in all it was a wonderful stay. We would definitely come back here if we returned to Penang.

Very nice boutique hotel. We had a lovely 1 night stay. The room is spacious and deco is like back to 1950 in Singapore or Malaysia.

Only that there is life band during the evening and the music is very loud. Recommend you stay out and go back until 10:00pm during weekend if you wish to rest.

Pleasant stay. Hotel is centrally located and yet away from the hustle bustle. Stay was very comfortable and room was very spacious for family of 4, though I did wish they had a pool. Will also be great if they had a full length mirror in the room. Excellent breakfast at Mews Cafe every morning.

Spacious room. The staff as they are friendly and helpful! The only issue is that they do not provide parking lot, so we need to purchase parking coupon from convenience store at the main street (the convenience store nearby all run out of coupon). Will be good if they can sell the parking coupon at the hotel front desk.

What can I say! This hotel was honestly our favourite of the entire trip! The room was absolutely beautiful. Clean and spacious. The breakfast included was delicious. The service staff were prompt and extremely professional. Also the desk manager on our check in was brilliant. He helped us with planning our 3 days in Penang and marked out on the map all the good spots in town. Recommend 110% anyone to stay here.

The restaurant and bar are nice with mostly outside seating. The room had 2 beds that were too large for the room, The shuttered windows opened onto a dirty wall that made the room feel
unclean. The room was comfortable but could use some updating especially to the windows. The water was not warm enough for a comfortable shower. The staff were friendly and helpful. The heritage location is interesting with some well kept buildings and some that are not. The open drain system emitted a foul smell in much of the area.

Muntri Mews is a perfect little boutique gem. It's a converted historic site and what they do with it is really special. The room we stayed in was beautifully furnished, however, we had issue with the beds as they were rather hard. But that is a preference and most certainly shouldn't deter anyone from staying here. The air condition in the room was heavenly, and the bathroom was very modern and clean. It was great to have access to the cafe across the street which had a lovely breakfast and helpful wait-staff. They didn't have the cappuccino on hand that I wanted but the server made a different, delicious drink and I was very happy.

It was a very cute and comfortable room with many thoughtful touches to make travellers feel welcome. The arrangement of the room with mosquito net and sit-out amongst greenery was spacious and attractive. The pretty teapot and real teaset, mobile chargers, in-line geyser, robust wifi, ready help of staff, location in the heart of town - all made for an excellent stay. The staff extended several courtesies helping with web check-in and travel advice within G'town.

Muntri Mews is fabulous boutique accommodation in the heart of Georgetown. It is a wonderful base for exploring the historic heart of Georgetown. The only downside is the lack of assigned parking for the accommodation. You have to park in the street and obtain parking vouchers which are valid from 8.00am-6.00pm each day. On Sunday street parking is free. There is a fabulous cafe attached to the premises which serves interesting, yummy food throughout the day, beginning with breakfast. There is even live entertainment on Saturday evening. The rooms have been tastefully restored and are scrupulously clean. However, my elderly husband found the joined queen beds difficult to navigate as they are in an alcove and difficult to access with non-standard bedding. The staff are extremely helpful and give excellent advice on where to visit and efficiently resolve any issues which may arise during your stay. I would definitely stay here again, if I have the opportunity

A fantastic place to rest and relax after a long day of walking around to see the street art. Within walking distance to street art, 3D museum, upside down museum and Penang Road for Cendol and char koey Teow.

Location was good in the Heritage section. Mew's cafe offers very good local food. If not for the lack of hot water in my room, I would have given a 5 in all categories.

Great place to stay/ delicious breakfast!

Great place to stay, spacious and clean room. Breakfast was delicious!

We had the executive room for 7 of us (6 adults, 1 kid) Everyone enjoyed the stay and planned to go back :)

Charming building, lovely staff

Beautiful building, great location, lovely staff, HUGE room. The beds were a bit hard, but it wouldn't stop me staying there again. I loved the fact that the plug sockets could take a variety of plugs, because we forgot to bring our adapters! And it was probably the best shower I've ever had in a hotel!

Was traveling with my faience's family from Vietnam. Our first stop was Singapore and then Penang. It was nice to have a very large room like this after living in a small box in Singapore. The decorations were great and the high ceilings gave us the breathing room we all needed. The location could not be better, especially if you are looking for some iconic street art photography in Penang. Twice for convenience we ate at the hotel which is a bit pricey given other local options near by but the food was excellent. A quick walk and you can find any restaurant you are looking for. The service at the front desk was great as we constantly needed their help to call an Uber driver given we did not have phones. I would recommend this place for a friend. We were in the family rooms and everything was very convenient. All the hot water you could ever use. Very clean and comfortable. You can make the room as cold as you like. People who say this is more for backpackers likely have not backpacked very rough. This was a nice place for a family.
