The staff at the Edison were superb, and its location, in historic George Town, is excellent. However, despite being a member of \"Small Luxury Hotels of the World\", it is not a luxury hotel: it is a decent 'heritage' hotel, but it would need a lot of detailed improvements to earn the cachet of 'luxury'. Nevertheless, it is a decent hotel and the staff are outstanding.

Loved the whole old work vibes of the Edison. A wonderful oasis, with large well appointed rooms that feel lux in an understated way. Great bathroom, comfy bed. The hospitality of every one of their staff was outstanding. Had some great food recommendations from Albert. Loved the all day lounge where you could grab a drink or a snack and the we one hour where as a solo traveler I got to meet so many wonderful people. Overall, an excellent experience.

The pool was an added bonus after a long day exploring.

Albert and his team did a great job hosting me for 2 nights ! Hotel is efficient but also very laid back . It’s an old mansion and some of the public areas do not have AC . Anywhere you would like to me had AC and was comfortable ! Free non- alcoholic drinks and snacks available . Breakfast prepared to order eggs were great ! Lap pool is good location to chill out after a busy day ! Looking forward to returning ! Check my postings I don’t give many 5 star ratings

I felt the contiental breakfast could have been more generous and varied. Only one small bowl of fruit available \" this seems unfair in a country of marvelous fruits at v cheap price.also no fresh juice just packet
Bathroom only separed from bed by curtain ok but not ideal for privacy on\" the throne\"

This hotel is an excellent choice!

This is a beautiful,1906 hotel that has been maintained its historic floors, metal post and iron works, and general appearance. The breakfast was nice and the lounge was open with drinks and snacks all day. The people were very helpful and did their best to make our stay happy! We recommend it!

A modern colonial boutique gem.

The Edison is a comfortable friendly boutique style hotel with a modern colonial vibe. Very well located in the heart of heritage Georgetown. Decor is elegant and understated. The real strength of the place though is the staff. Really nice service at all terms. Friendly and seemingly informal but ever helpful and anticipating needs, with nothing ever too much trouble. My stay was for 6 nights and it never faltered and if anything just kept on getting better. If you have mobility issues be sure to ask for a downstairs room as there are mo lifts. Only slight quibble was that wifi data rates were patchy. But overall it’s strongly recommended.

The staff were attentive to our every need, from recommending local restaurants to booking a taxi to the airport. Unfortunately the noise levels just beyond us . There is singing club just across the street and will start @ 9:30 and last till 11:30 pm every night . Wi-Fi was patchy . If u need Wi-Fi , this is not the hotel for you.

Beautiful but complete lack of maintenance

Beautiful hotel, nice staff, but unfortunately it is not being maintained. Facilities are not i good condition (e g. Pool has hanging light), indoor sofa is moldy and stained, outdoor shutters are peeled off, doors don't close well, birds constantly inside the lobby entrance which from a cleanliness standing is not great Cleanliness of the rooms was subpar. Staff broke a perfume bottle while cleaning and did not report it - found out from left over glass shard and strong smell of perfume...). Such a shame as this hotel could be fantastic and the staff was nothing but helpful. However big investment needs to be made in upkeeping and training. Without this, i think it should be removed from the small luxury hotels group/website.

This is an absolute gem in Penang. It's a stunning converted mansion full of history and charm. Even better, it's a great location- we walked everywhere we wanted to get to within 25 minutes of the property.

But the real amazing thing was the staff. Everyone was so kind and accommodating. They took time to sit down with us and create an itinerary to experience George Town in our short stay, had restaurant recommendations to experience local cuisine, and an amazing lounge with complimentary juices and snacks. It's easily one of the, if not the, best experiences I've had with hotel staff anywhere.

If you're staying in Pengang, this is the place.

Love the hospitality from all the staffs. If I need to pick on 1 thing to improve it would have to be the sound proofing especially if you are staying at the lower floor as anyone guest who stays above just need to pull a chair or walk a lil bit harder we would get a full load of the sound. While I am perfectly aware that it’s a colonial building and the owners are preserving it to the best level possible but perhaps additional carpet would do the trick?

5 stars services. Staffs were very friendly. Got room tour and brief of history during the check-in. Located at the center of Georgetown and walkable distance most of attractions. Although it's a small mansion but it has everything that you need. Pool was nice, room was clean and spacious and do enjoy at the lounge area as it was very relax to sit in. Compliment snacks and drinks and free-flow Wine tasting session severed on limited time everyday with free-flow cheese too! The owner and manager did greet us warmly and even sent us off during our check out. Worth every penny. Highly recommended.

There is nothing not to like about this hotel. The minute you step in you feel welcome right away. We were checked in by Sofia and Haris. Sofia helped us with our luggage. The check in was very quick. Everything about this hotel is superb. The decor, the room but we really stands out is their impeccable service. Absolutely 1st class. The Hotel Manager Ivan Khoo even addressed us by our 1st name, now if that's not 1st class than what. I really love the lounge where you can get coffee and treats all day long. The minute we checked out my daughter wanted to go back again. You guys at Edison really rock. You definitely understand hospitality. Keep it up guys. We shall be back soon.

A comfortable oasis in Penang

We had an amazing stay at the Edison. The staff were incredibly warm and welcoming, and exceedingly polite. We felt like family. Our room was comfortable and well stocked with everything we could need including water and fresh passionfruit marshmallows brought to our room daily. The Lounge in the hotel, for breakfast, snacks, drinks, afternoon tea, and wine and cheese were incredible. Only downside was the proximity to a market across the street with some loud live music. Otherwise we would highly recommend a stay at the Edison. Can there be an Edison everywhere we go?

Overall, we had a lovely experience at the Edison. The room was beautifully designed in an art deco style, breakfast was good and the small touches memorable (complimentary tea, snacks all day).

Our one negative experience was the noise coming from a hawker center across the road until midnight every night. We stayed at the Suite, and this was the one downer to our experience. I would recommend that the hotel provide some kind of noise cancelling or white noise speakers.

Possibly the best hotel in George Town

We've stayed in a lot of hotels in George Town and this is possibly the best so far. While many have great heritage they can use that as an excuse for poor quality fixtures & fittings or services. The style is definitely more modern than some of the others, moving away from the pure classic heritage style of other places. The staff were exceptional, working hard to meet every need. The pool was long enough for lengths although not wide enough for more than two-users, but this is still good for a hotel in central George Town. The noise at night.... well yes, it was karaoke night over the road and although the earplugs helped, they couldn't block out the noise, but that did all end after midnight. Would definitely stay again and would recommend the suites.

We came for work and stayed extra days. This hotel is so gorgeous! And the service is over the TOP amazing. Location is terrific. I’ve stayed at the E&O which of course has the water view but for historical charm and awesome service this hotel totally rivals the E&O. And when you compare the price it’s not even close. Happy hour and snacks all day, breakfast, walk to everything in a lovingly restored mansion. Wil definitely be back.

I was travelling alone with my 8 month old baby and the staff were amazing, they went out of their way to provide everything I needed, including a cot, baby bath, baby toiletries as well as steriliser. The 24-hour kitchen/dining area also came in useful for snacks and hot water for my baby.

Well located to local sights and a stone throw away to local food, the Edison is a gem. its main highlights would be the service staff, who are more than eager to be of service.

the amenities of the hotel is lovely too with a lounge access catering bite sized food options throughout the day.

Breakfast is a gem be it lounging but the pool or sited indoors.

The history of the original use of the space is also quite interesting. Ask the staff for more.

My gripewith my stay has to be the bathrooms which isnt what I would associate to a luxury accomodation. In addition, GRAB drivers often find the place hard to locate. This may be quite annoying. Also, dont expect windows to the room.

Beautiful hotel with tasteful and modern decor sprucing up an old, restored mansion. Service was top notch and the air conditioned lounge open to all guests was an oasis in the Georgetown heat. I had the privilege of speaking with Mr Eddie Tan who runs the hotel and he was remarkably unassuming and pleasant. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Edison.

Staff is friendly, just shower doesn’t have a door so our bathroom was a bit wet...
But except that, everything good!

The customer service at this place is exceptional. Really impressed with all the staffs there. Overall, our stay at this mansion is satisfying. Would definitely recommend if you would like to experience somewhere different from the ordinary.

Lovely service at a new design boutique hotel

I was reading reviews of different Hotels in Georgetown and finally chose this because of the pictures. It proved to be a great choice. Service is overwhelming, the lounge serves an afternoon tea and a lovely happy hour with wine and cheese. Designs are stylish whereas in some of the other hotels Interior looked shabby. Good location, walking distance everywhere

Fantastic building. Friendly staff. Nice lounge, good breakfast. Great location too.

But internet a bit slow, and my room has a constant low level noise (maybe from the equipment /facilities outside the room window)

Great staff and service

The standout feature of this hotel were the exceptionally helpful and efficient staff. Wine hour in the evenings and 24 hour coffee and snack bar were a nice touch. The room itself was a little dark and had only a curtain between the sleeping area and bathroom.
