Location easy access to nearby eatery. walking distance to Chulia street. friendly staff (front desk, house- keeping).Simple & basic room for a good rest (if most of the guests can lower their voice when back to the room and handle the door gently, echo quite clear if walk and talk at the corridor). Hot & cold water dispenser available at hallway. required deposit for room key and car park access card if driving (parking foc from hotel but carpark access car based on 1st come 1st serve). Non-Malaysian will charge tourism fee for MYR10/night, plus Penang island heritage fee for MYR2/night for 1~3 stars hotel. Overall pleasant stay. Value for money. Recommended for backpacker (they have bunk bed) , 2togo, budget family or group.

Noisy small and basic

Very basic hotel without any charm. The only good thing is the location and that it’s very cheap so I suppose you get what you pay for. Either way a few things - bunk bed rooms are tiny and barely big enough for one person let alone two. Don’t expect too much from the front desk staff and rooms can be noisy as walls are thin and property is on main road.

We stayed in the double decker room. Although the room was small, it was very clean with all necessary amenities. The bunker beds were very comfortable with good head height, it didn't feel cramp. Toilet was small but didn't feel cramp and had all basic toiletries. There's no kettle in the room but a water dispenser with hot and cold water is available in the corridor. Free parking is available in an open carpark if you are driving. It's also located right on Penang Road, walking distance to good street food all around.

Budgeted Stay Inn in George Town Penang

With the budgeted prices / rates for the hotel , it is mostly fine to us except the following :

- Mosquitos in the hotel room and reception
lobby
( We killed 4 mosquitos during 2 night stay
and 2 at the reception area while checking out

-One out of two fire escspe door was blocked/
locked. No alternative escape route in the
event of fire and therefore a fire hazard to
hotel guest

Pleasant stay, good location

The room service was poor. There was a slope in the middle of the bed which gives us a bad body-ache the next morning. The tv was not functioning well too due to the bad weather (rain). Other than this, the location was great. It's within a walking distance to the local market which we have tried a lot of local delicacies including the teochew cendol. The hotel also provide a great parking space for us to park our car and it's all free.

Awful hotel, Tiny basic room, smells of mould

Upon our arrival at the hotel, the woman at the reception was very rude an unfriendly.
We were just handed in the key to our room, no explanation of direction, room number etc.
We are a middle aged couple and was told our travel agency had booked for us a bunker bed !!!!! The rude lady said if we did not want to stay at the hotel, we would lose all the money we had paid for our -room 2 nights !

Also, we had to pay extra taxes for each night plus a deposit .

We insisted it must be a mistake but indeed the booking receipt did concern a bunker bed !!
We should have checked our booking confirmation carefully before arrival, our mistake.
Anyway, our explation and a simple request for a double bed fell of deaf hears and was ignored.She was not understanding or helpful and did not once try to help us.

We had to sleep in a very tiny bunker, had much difficulties climbing on the rusty old metal bed ladder and almost fell !!!! We are middle middle aged and clearly it was a struggle to climb up the tiny single bunker bed !!!

On top of it all...the tiny room has no shelf, no hanger, no mini fridge and has a very strong stale smell of mould !!! The whole hotel had such awful mouldy smell !!!

This hotel experience has absolutely spoilt our trip, very dissapointing.

For me who like to walk hotel is on perfect location and not too far from UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site maybe 10-15min. Same goes to shopping malls about 10min walk so locaition is really good. But for hotel what can I say lobby is much more nicer then rooms. In my room walls would need some repainting because it was quite dirty same goes for chair. And I was really disappointed with windows cound not see out because they are colored and one of the window could not close properly so I heard traffic from outside and it's quite busy road.

Basic accommodation in a good location.

Room and hotel was clean, staff were friendly and helpful. Great location being a walk away from everything in Georgetown. However, the beds were extremely hard (bunk beds) and would wake us up many times in the night sore and needing to move. The only other thing was the smell coming from the drain/toilet every so often a strong pungent smell came into the room. Overall a good place to stay for a few nights.

We was looking for budget hotel around Georgetown then suddenly we founs this hotel from hotels.com..Its only 60RM pernight with bathroom attached which is for me is very cheap compared with the hotela in armenian street which cost you around 50RM with shared bathroom. The location of this GrandInn is very superb, walking distance to Line Clear nasi kandar, bee hwa cafe, teochew cendol/asamlaksa, aistingkap, nasi kandar hameedeyah & nasi padang pusako...Free CAT shuttle Bus also stop in front of hotel..Free parking somemore, definitely i will recommended this hotel & i will stay back in this hotel if i visit penang again.

Nice little hotel close to everything. Buses outside the door, including free CAT bus for travel around Georgetown. The hotel is nothing fancy but as I was hardly indoors it did OK for the price. Staff helpful and friendly. If you need a spacious room/bathroom this will not be the hotel for you. If you want a bit more than hostel and sharing bathrooms this is it.

Also, the tourist City-Tour and Beach-Tour Hop-on and Hop-off bus service is nearby by the side of the wet market. Nearby has many coffee-shops or restaurants for meals and snacks. About 10-15min walk to Komtar.

Hotel is very conveniently situated; within walking distance to lots of street food and just a minute to 7-11 and another mini mart. Also, it was within the route of the free CAT bus. We just had to walk to the bus stop nearby (opposite cititel hotel) and the CAT bus can take us to komtar. Hotel room was very small; there was a table and chair but they were too small to place our luggage and the bathroom's shower was almost above the toilet seat. However, it was quite clean and decent for the price paid. You just have to make do. There was a water dispenser outside our room too so that's convenient. Service of hotel staff can be improved, especially for Ms Irene who was curt when speaking to us.

Location is good - 10 mins walk to Komtar bus terminal where you can get a bus to any part of the city and the airport. There are lots of eateries around. Just beware that Chinese coffeeshop either insist that you must order a drink or levy a RM0.50 for table fee when you eat in. Hotel room is clean, air con is cooling and water pressure for water heater excellent. There is water cooler where you can get free top up of water. Coffee and tea is complimentary (one set per day). There is unfortunately one channel of cable TV, the others are local free TV channels. Overall, very good value for money.

We book 2 rooms at level 3, in the middle of the night when we almost fall into sweet dream, we are shock by group of other guess who chit chat and having bday party infront of our room. We open the door and ask them to quite because they really disturbing and intolerance....its happened for almost 1 hour, hotel staff should be aware of this as they have cctv to monitor. Our bad dream is not over yet, after evening disturbance, early morning the alarm from room beside ours can not stop ringing for 1/2 hour....overall the stay there is horrible...

Location is very good. There's plenty of places nearby where you can get good food. Shopping area is nearby, all walking distance. The room is clean and big enough for 4 adult to stay.
