The place is a bit of a walk from the city center and on a uphill gradient. So best to take a taxi when arriving and departing with luggage. For normal sightseeing days days its quite ok to walk to the city center and back to hotel.
Also no possibility to get lunch or dinner at the hotel...so these meals should be had out before you return to the hotel at the end of the day.

I was quite excited to visit this hotel as on line it looked really great, on arrival it matched the pictures a converted house to a hotel, i presume
We were given a lower floor room which meant loosing a little of the magnificent views of the surrounding mountains, the room was a little disappointing , had i been a big person the bathroom facilities would have been a problem, the toilets position in conjunction with the shower gave no room, also little privacy
The washbasin was difficult to keep the water in when using it
The sleeping area was clean and comfortable with plenty of space for clothing TV was well positioned for viewing

We booked a Triple room at this hotel for 2 ppl only because we needed a room with a king bed, as we were unable to sleep in a small bed. Triple room was the only available with a king bed. When we arrived we were checked in to 2 connected rooms in the basement. There was no word about 2 connected rooms and about the basement on our Expedia confirmation letter or on the hotel description (we would never book such a terrible room and would never pay extra for a connected room!). We felt like there was something wrong with the entire reservation/check in process and we were not given a room we had booked. However, the hotel owner stated that no other rooms were available and they were fully booked.
Another issue happened during the check out process. There are no in-room safes at this hotel, so we had to leave our passports and valets at the \"hotel's safe\" = gave them to the hotel owner at the reception, which was a big mistake. Upon check out they could not find our passports and valets. It took about 30 min for a receptionist to locate them by checking all offices, calling the hotel owner (she was out of the hotel at that time), her husband and his girlfriend. We were about to call the police and could only guess where they kept our passports and valets and who could have an excess to all of it.

The host charged us an extra day, but due to my wife's help, got fixed. Family run place. The breakfast was not included and I didn't know that until checkout, though it was very good and probably worth the price. Salzburg is pricey and compared to other places this was a nice place to stay. Free parking was great. It's about a 20min walk to the main town.

My husband and I were very happy with our stay at Haus Arenberg. The hotel is just across the river from old town Salzburg and in a lovely residential area. When we arrived the owner was so jolly and helpful. We felt truly welcome. Our room was spacious, clean and the bed was comfortable. I love the two duvets so my hubby can't steal my blanket ;) Also the breakfast was very tasty and I loved that the hosts would cook us eggs to our liking in addition to the wonderful buffet. This hotel Hays is located 20 minutes from staatbruck bridge , the entrance to the Salzburg old city which contains almost all touristic locations .

Staff were not as friendly as other hotels during our trip. Hotel does not have a restaurant or food available, except breakfast. You have to walk to the downtown to find food. We had a five day stay and used a taxi most of the time as the hotel is in a quiet ( but staggering nice ) residential area and the walk into \"town\" gets a bit wearing after a while.

A very charming B/B. The staff were friendly, helpful and made you feel like you were a part of the family. The view was gorgeous and the breakfast in the morning was a gorgeous buffet of breads, meats, cheeses, yoghurt and eggs cooked to order. Will definitely return. Parking is limited so make sure and let them know if you're driving.

This hotel was nice and the staff was great, however the breakfast was not a good experience. The plates and serving dishes were not all clean. Many of the tea pots was dirty, so you had to look closely not to grab and add water and tea to a pot that was not clean. Plates and other items were dirty as well.

I highly recommend Haus Arenberg. Our room for three was spacious, comfortable, and very clean. We were able to leave our car there and walk 15-20 minutes to the Old Town. The breakfast was delicious and the hosts were very accommodating. Minutes after we got there, she arranged a Sound of Music tour for us with Panorama Tours and they came to pick us up.

Our triple room was nothing like the triple room shown on the Haus Arenberg section of hotels.com. Instead of a broad alpine view from a balcony and a tall window + door combination, our room was beneath the breakfast cafeteria with a view of bushes and tree limbs ten feet or so from rather short windows with high sills. The floor of our room was below the outside grade. We had ordinary mattresses instead of Select Comfort. Sounds of breakfast traffic above the room began around 7 am. The room was large and had an excellent bathroom. Breakfast was excellent. We should have been advised before booking that our triple room could be so different from the one shown online.

The hotel is a little off the beaten path and for me too far to pull my luggage from the bus stop. The hotel was nice, stuck in a residential neighborhood. The staff was superb and went above and beyond to fix us breakfast before the normal breakfast hours, due to our flight. The distance from the town and that there is no air conditioning is a draw back.

From previous reviews we were apprehensive about the walk to old town Salzburg and then back across the river and up the hill to the hotel. We are in our 60's and found the walk pleasant and slowly paced ourself up the hill. Bad weather would make the walk a bit uncomfortable. We were there in July and it was warm. The complex has no A/C, this is the only downside we found during our stay. We kept the balcony doors open and it helped with the breeze but when the guests next door went out on their balcony to smoke, the second hand smoke wafted unpleasantly into our room. Finally, Daniella, who served us at the great breakfast was such a happy, thankful and caring young lady.

Nice quiet hotel in lovely neighborhood
Great stay. Nice staff, tasty breakfast, comfortable beds and reasonable price. I don't think we would've found it without a taxi. It's pretty hidden.

Not close to city centre
Very disappointed with our stay from the moment we arrived until we checked out. First 20 minutes of our arrival was spent looking for the reservation even though we had prepaid room and had confirmation number. Finally placed in room and lighting was hanging from ceiling by wires. Constant interruption of wanting to come into our room and while we were away in town came into room and rearranged our luggage and clothes. When we came back we were resting in our room, when all of a sudden our door opened (nobody knocked) and walked into the room. When they saw us sitting there, they hastily left the room with an apology. There wasn't a safe in the room to keep our valuables safe. I would not give this hotel high marks. It is overpriced for the value you get. Not recommended if you do not have a car as it is not close to many attractions. My daughter was yelled at when trying to open the door when entering. I do not recommend staying here.

Lovely hotel with excellent friendly staff. Hotel is a 15 min walk to the old town but no issue in daylight but to feel safe at night in the dark taxi back to hotel from the old town costs €9. Hotel lovely in a lovely location and staff went out of their way to help. Definitely recommend.

One of the best places to stay ever. Our hosts were fantastic, the rooms were very nice and the view from the balcony was to die for. Just a 10 minute walk and we were at the steps of the castle in old town. Breakfast was very good.

We enjoyed our stay, it's lovely to sit in the gardens and enjoy the view. Our room was very clean and had a nice balcony, the toilet/shower area is very small but we managed. The staff were very helpful.

Haus Arenberg is smack in the middle of Salzburg but in a quiet residential neighborhood. Nevertheless, it only takes a 10 minute walk to the main shopping and sightseeing areas as well as a number of very good restaurants.

Based on the wonderful reviews and beautiful pictures, we booked this hotel in August for a 2 night stay starting New Year Eve . I chose the posted double standard room showing a view and a balcony.The room description gave the size of the room (194 sq ft) with a separate sitting area. The room was confirmed with a credit card. When we arrived at the hotel at around 4 pm on December 31st, the owner initially gave us the keys of room #1 but than he reconsidered, seemed a bit confused when our names were not on the main booking log, than after he finally looked on a separate book he declared that we have another room and proceeded to take us one flight below the ground to our small room without balcony, with a view of the grass roots since the small window was just above the ground. No sitting area either. When we asked about the room we booked 4 months back, he stormed out to call his wife on the phone and he came back saying that they are fully booked and that's our room: take it or leave.No apologies or sorry feelings. So at 6 pm on New Years Eve we had to look for accommodation feeling not only disappointed but outraged for the owners indifference to the most basic rule of the hospitality industry.

Very pleasant 3 night stay
We originally booked 2 nights, ended up staying for 3. Haus Arenberg, a cozy mom & pop lodge, was the best lodging we had in Austria. Getting there from the train station via taxi cost about $15. It's situated in kind of a (upper class) residential neighborhood. Even in winter, we enjoyed the 10-15 min. walk to/from the old, historical (city center) part of Salzburg. I think it's location is what provided such a quiet, serene environment. Aside from being so enjoyably quiet, the room itself was quaint but seemed renovated, clean but not sterile and it had a great, scenic view. The \"double bed\" (which, apparently typical in this part of Europe, was actually 2 slightly-smaller-than-twins pushed together) was more comfortable than I have come to expect from any hotel, regardless of price range. The mattress(es) weren't really memory foam but they weren't spring either. They are kind of like cushions which are just right, not too firm, not too soft (for a side sleeper.) The room had a small/standard but functional bath tub. We would stay there again if we ever come back to Salzburg.

This is a lovely, family-run hotel. It has the feel of a country inn. We were kindly greeted by the hostess, who took us up to our room, which featured a balcony with a superb view of the Austrian Alps. I have traveled around the world, and this view is one of the very best.
The walk from the hotel to the city center took about 20 minutes. The next day, we enjoyed a bountiful breakfast with muesli, fresh fruit, various breads, salmon, cold cuts, cheeses, an omelette, and strudel. What more could you ask for?

Quaint and Quiet Property

we really enjoyed staying here. It was located on the opposite side of downtown and just a 15 minute walk into the city, which was perfect. The rooms were very nice and clean, and the breakfast in the morning was delicious. The hotel was located in a neat little neighborhood which was nice to be away from the hustle and bustle but yet close enough to get into town quickly.
