Mercure Salzburg City is a great hotel and I would stay again.

The staff are super friendly, the hotel is well located (only 12 - 15 mins leisurely walk from the Makartsteg Bridge that crosses the Salzach), the rooms are spacious and clean, and the beds comfortable.

The only disappointment was that the complementary bottles of water (2) in the fridge are not replaced each morning.
So regardless of a single or multiple night stay, you get the two bottles.
That doesn't make sense. If I book one night, I get the same as someone staying longer?

Mercure management team: if you are going to provide water (which I really appreciated), then please make it consistent and fair.
If I had known, I'd have bought water on my way back to the hotel on the second night. Buying your water at reception costs more than 3x the price in Spar!

Great location close to the train station, Mirabel gardens and hop on hop off bus in walking distance. We ate in the restaurant every night, meals were well priced and amazing.The staff were a great help with our questions. Thank you Toth for the great service you provided in the restaurant, you must try the Wien as schnitzel!

The Mercure hotel in Salzburg was a great value choice for staying in a location that was convenient to get into the city centre and explore the Christmas markets and city attractions. Just about 10 minutes walk from the main train station and with a bus stop only 2 minutes away, you can get around the city and local area with ease. Much of Salzburg is easily walkable. The hotel is in a quiet residential area, the rooms are modern and comfortable and there are dining options on site, but these were expensive so we used the many cafes and restaurants in the city.

Mercure in Salzburg is in a quiet neighborhood not far from the central station. Double bed was firm but comfy. Bathroom was fine with large enough shower although i don't know why there was a towel bar in front of the sink. Breakfast buffet ay 24 euros was a little high although selection was good. I'd definitely stay there again if i return to Salzburg.

The hotel is situated in the New Town with the Old Town a 15 minute walk away. The walk does take you past many shops and eateries and is very pleasant.

A comfortable and lovely hotel

I really loved this hotel.

Away from the tourist areas (but only 15 - 20 minutes walk) this hotel is perfect for those who want a bit of a quieter stay and don’t want to pay the high prices of staying in the older part of town.

The hotel was immaculate. The rooms were lovely and spacious with great walk in showers which were very powerful.

The staff were all really helpful and their use of English was great for us non-German speakers.

The only slight downside was the cost of breakfast. 17 euros pp/pn I thought was slightly excessive. Whilst It did look good with lots of choice, you could easily pop to a coffee shop and the supermarket for a light breakfast and still have change left over.

I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to others as well.

Great hotel about ten minutes walk from the station. Staff are friendly and the hotel is really clean. The only gripe I would have is that the hotel restaurant food is shockingly awful we only went there one night and wondered why there was so few people there when the food arrived all became clear!!! So avoid that part of the hotel the rest is amazing! We shall be back very soon Salzburg is an amazing city to visit make sure you visit the cable car just out side the city and also the castle.

Good location, only a 10minute walk from town and in a nice quiet spot. Hotel a bit dated but clean. If I was being picky the only things that brought the ratings down were that we had single beds rather than a double and the lighting is quite low. Having a bath was a great bonus after a couple of days of heavy duty walking.

Check in was alright after a not so pleasant first approach at the checkin desk and about a one hour wait. The second colleague then kindly arranged for a checkin just before 14:00 which allowed me to arrived at the 15:00 performance at the Salzburg Festival refreshed after all. The first colleague, maybe overworked or unhappy with his job, was neither friendly nor helpful - not a good first impression of a hotel.

Wouldn’t choose this place again

The standard rooms are very tired and in need of completely updating. Our room had stained carpets, holes in the curtains and the shower head wouldn’t stay in place making showering difficult unless you’re very short!
The staff weren’t to helpful we were sent up to our room only to find it wasn’t ready and asked to wait downstairs when we asked at reception a few minutes later we were told our room had been ready all the time. I tried to explain we had been sent back as it wasn’t ready they either didn’t understand or didn’t care!
When we started settling into the room a man (member of staff) came bursting into our room, with no knocking!, said sorry and then looked in the fridge that was empty and said that’s fine and left.
Not very satisfactory on the positive the air conditioning worked well!

Comfortable hotel, a little away from the main parts of Salzburg. Restaurants and shops always a 10+ minutes walk away. Breakfast was disappointing and wasn’t worth the additional money paid. There was a waffle machine, but apparently only available after 8am, so not for the early risers. The remaining food was very limited in appeal.

Shabbiest Mercure I ever saw

Room was a disappointment. It was very old, like a step back in time which needs renovation ASAP. Curtains were horrible. Pillows were a disaster. Toilet flush was a hit and miss. Shower water temperature takes time to heat up. When I think of Mercure from my experience in the past, it was hip and modern. This was NOT. The only saving grace was it has coffee/tea facility in the room. And location was 10-15mins walk to Old Town.

Nice and quiet, other than the delivery lorry at 5am but thankfully he wasn’t there too long!
Lovely staff and lovely food at the restaurant. However, breakfast was a nightmare due to only one hot drinks machine and there only being 2 staff on!! Absolutely ridiculous. Those 2 staff could not have worked harder and I can’t fault them at all, I just felt sorry for them because they were overwhelmed by numbers. There should have been another 4 on!!! There was a queue 10 people deep the whole time waiting for a hot drink and it took 20 mins to get to the front of the queue!! Please get another drinks machine and one that is preferably a lot quicker at working!!!!
Otherwise it’s a very nice place to stay.

On our 10 day trip around Switzerland, Austria and Germany this was my least favourite hotel. It is very dated in decor and overall condition. The climate control did not function. There was a house fly issue in the room that I tried to remedy with a magazine as a fly swatter but then realized many got caught in the popcorn ceiling spider webs. In such a large center with other options, I would not stay here again or recommend it. However, the breakfast was really good.

The listing for this hotel said it had air conditioning but the manager decided to turn it off and switch to heating even though we still had summer temperatures. I sweated for three nights. The location was a bit noisy too especially if you had to leave the window open because of no AC. The free internet was also very slow.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel was a 10 minute walk from the train station but was a little difficult to maneuver the night we arrived. A friendly local helped us to navigate. It was easy to walk back and forth afterwards. I suggest a cab ride if you have luggage.

I found the location to be barely walking distance to center of town. Facilities are obviously older and not particularly well kept. For instance, The area behind the bathroom door had holes in the plaster and wallpaper. The back of the bathroom door was dirty. Location wise was soso, 10mins from the train station, 10mins from the old town/main attractions.

We requested for a queen size bed but was given a twin bed room instead.

Electric kettle wasn't clean, feedback to the front desk and was told it was due to boiling hot water (what?). They did change a new kettle for us but it wasn't clean as well.

It was very hot for our 18 day trip to Germany/Austria. This was the first place we stayed that had AC. It was a very clean room and spacious. Located close enough to the historical places we could walk. Parking and breakfast were a bit pricey, but bakeries were close enough for us to walk. I would recommend this place to others.

As the weather was very hot, over 30 degrees, the excellent room air conditioning was most welcome. The location is just a short 15 minute walk from central shops and cafes/bars/restaurants and 25 minutes from the old town. The hotel is in a quiet area and has a pleasant garden open to guests. Great breakfast!

A terribly uncomfortable room without ventilating air-conditioner. Though room temperature seems more than 27, air conditioning system was not allowed to operate due to temperature policies. Unsympathetic and unapologetic staff were not helpful at all. It is true that you receive what you pay. I recommend you not to expect more than what you have paid.

The hotel was in a good location and the hotel staff also sorted out the few minor issues we did have with our room very quickly.

When we first arrived we felt the staff could have been a bit more helpful with tourist information without being asked.

The room was nice and clean but it was unfortunately located near the bins being emptied early in the morning which was disruptive.

we went just after New Year so it was quiet. The reception staff are great and the breakfast is all you could wish for. We had a slight issue with the room not being cleaned properly, I think they were on a skeleton staff, however, it's a decent enough hotel so it would not put us off going back.

Cons. 20 minutes to get into the city not many shops or facilities close to the hotel. Very slow check in and check in staff not particularly friendly or helpful at all . Deposit demanded on arrival without prior notification.

The hotel is a bit off the main area but in a quiet area of town. It’s about a 15-20 min walk to Old Town Salzburg. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. The staff was pleasant and accommodating. We enjoyed the breakfast very much.

We were on an extended independent trip through Central Europe and for the most part had great hotels. The Mecure Salzburg, however fell short.
We arrived in the early afternoon. The desk attendant was abrupt and merely waved his hand in the general direction of an unsecured storage area for our bags.
Although the rooms are nonsmoking, when we opened our windows, the smoke from people smoking on their decks readily entered our room.
