The room itself was nice and clean with comfortable sitting areas near the lobby. However, luggage storage was unlocked and unmanned. Any person could have walked right into the hotel and taken your luggage with no staff member seeing. As a solo female traveler, I should have payed more attention to the fact that this hotel is unstaffed at night, too.

Highly recommend!! Staff was very friendly and helpful. The gentleman at the desk gave us a tour of the hotel. He had a nice smile and was very welcoming! Loved that breakfast was included, and the lady in the kitchen was very efficient and nice. Enjoyed the coffee/tea bar, free to guests and the honesty bar. Clean room, simple yet cozy. Definitely plan on going back!

The room was spacious, comfortable and cosy, and the cleaners did a great job keeping it very clean. The staff were very friendly, and we enjoyed our stay overall. We only had breakfast once, but it was nice.

The only small downside was the lack of a safe in our room. We were told the room had been recently refurbished and that a safe could not be fitted into the new design. An alternative was to leave valuables with the reception, which was only staffed until 6 pm each day, so this was not always convenient. Thankfully, our valuables were fine, and this did not take away from what was otherwise a very pleasant stay.

Great hotel right from check-in to checkout. Reception was systematic, helpful and very welcoming. Charming hotel with a superb location - short walks from central train station; to Hohensalzburg Fortress and everything else in between! Spacious room and beds. We also felt very at home with the coffee/tea lounge and bar with comfy seating which were really nice.

This was my second time staying at this hotel. It is so lovely, with very friendly staff and in a great location. The staff really take the time to make you feel valued and comfortable. The common areas (including a record player and complimentary coffee bar) are extremely cozy and a nice place to relax outside of your room.

So we had a late check in after hours and they wanted me to send my credit card number and passport through hotels.com or as an email - both insecure methods and not really acceptable imo. I ended up sending an encrypted word doc. I honestly would have cancelled our stay if they had given me notice prior to the last day of cancellation.

The breakfast was also 22€ for pretty basic items. Not a very good deal and would have had better food at the hbf for a lot cheaper.

Wouldn't return.

The hotel was very convenient to be able to walk to all the sites in central Salzburg and the train station is an easy 10 minute walk as well.
The hotel is older but has seen recent renovations and the rooms are nice sized, clean and very quiet and comfortable. They also have a room witha self serve honor bar and another sitting room with complimentary coffee and tea.
I would definitely return again.

Amazing experience with this hotel. Arrived early on a rainy morning and was planning on just dropping off my luggage as check in was still hours away. Lovely young woman at the hotel desk was able to let me into my room then and there! Then, I discovered my electricity converter was the wrong kind and they loaned me one to use for duration of my stay.

The property is an older heritage property. There is NO air conditioning which I didn’t realise when booking. I was fortunate that the weather was mild, if it would have been warmer weather this would be a definite problem. Staff were very friendly.

Great Place on a Budget

Our room was a little undersized for our expectations, but it wasn't a huge deal as we weren't in it much during our stay. When we were, it was clean and the bed was quite comfortable. It was centrally-located between the train station and the attractions. Overall, it was a great place for our budget.

Staff were so friendly and kind at check-in. We stayed in a triple family room which was an excellent standard, and the bathroom was great too - loved the rain shower! Exceptional cleanliness and facilities. Perfect location for exploring the Miarabell Palace and Gardens, Mozart's birthplace and the old town, and 10 mins walk from the station/bus station. I highly recommend this hotel and would happily return in a heartbeat!

Very comfortable stay... loved all the \"homemade with love\" coffee cakes each morning, eggs to order, nice Jura-like coffee machine, & friendly service from the young girls at breakfast each AM.

Loved the courtyard garden where they keep a 50 year old turtle who is fed by the staff & even has her own turtle house for shelter. Nice rooms where you can hang out in the evening & play records & \"honor system\" bar, which we didn't use, but was a nice touch.

The only thing that was a bit stressful was the hours of the reception, but we called & found it was ok to arrive at 8pm. But i did wonder about what would happen if i had car trouble & didn't arrive till midnight or later....out of luck, or does someone always answer the phone even after reception closes?

Parking is also confusing, as \"wi-fi\" lot (underground parking lot a few blocks away) is closed at odd hours & we did not find the hours posted anywhere...street parking is restricted & largely unavailable.

But overall, lovely 4 night stay....

Check in was quick and our room was available hours earlier than normal check in time. Owner was at reception and readily offered ideas for things to do and got us the Salzburg Pass that saved us money on the attractions we wanted to see. Breakfast was very good and the staff was very attentive. Close to main train station and easy to get to the old town by bus. If ever in Salzburg again would definitely stay there!

Pros: Great location to exploring the city and very friendly staff. Cons: No A/C, and a broken window in one of our rooms so couldn't even let air in. Uncomfortable beds, industrial carpet everywhere (the hallways, rooms and entry were decorated very cheaply, but the \"library\", \"honesty bar\" and courtyard were very old world and lovely) and extra charges for everything. Every other hotel we stayed at provided water, beer, coffee and more, but this one charged extra for it all. Not a terrible experience, but definitely would choose somewhere else next time.

Such friendly staff! The hotel had many amenities like a lounge and an honesty bar. The breakfast was the best hotel breakfast we’ve ever had anywhere in the world! Everything was served and prepared with such care - we felt very taken care of here. Air conditioning would be good. We had the window open, but the dump truck woke us up early with the noise and smell. Only a minor inconvenience though!

Hotel was very cosy and clean. We choose this hotel because was close to the train station and also to the city centre . Service was very attentive and friendly.
Room was basic for a 4 star and they didn’t clean the room in the morning, but price /quality ratio was great.
22€ for a breakfast is a bit expensive but I will recommend this hotel to anyone

We loved our stay here. The staff were really friendly and rooms comfortable. We especially appreciated the very comfortable lounge and bar area which felt cosy and personal. The location was good too, just a 10 min walk to the river and the old town, and with the Mirabel Palace just round the corner.

The hotel is quiet and the room was clean and quite roomy for an old European hotel. There are steps from the street into the hotel and it is a little dated. Staff is not there through the night, but helpful with our questions during the day. Very nice garden, social rooms and an honor bar on the first floor. Overall, we would stay again.

The room is so small and the facility is limited: no fridge, no water cups in the room. There was even no shampoo or shower gel in the shower room on the day we arrived. We complained next morning as no staff on property in the night and they replaced the shower gel/shampoo. It was the worst hotel we had in our whole trip. I would like to say that hotel could be ranked as three stars with maximum.

Great location for walking or taking public transport. Big aged in many parts, and in need of a facelift. Even though Salzburg is expensive, especially in December, this wasn't great value for the amount we paid. However, no complaints about the room, public rooms small but homely, and helpful reception staff.

From start to finish, it was an absolutely lovely stay. The reception was friendly and welcoming. The coffee and tea room was set up so nice- one could sit there and play cards all day if there wasn’t so much to see in Salzburg! There is also a bar and sitting room with a record player and great selection of records- such ambiance! And the fact that is an honor bar set the tone for the hotel. I have only stayed in one other hotel that had that and I love the trust and faith it shows in the guests and in humanity.:) Our room was quiet with comfortable beds and big windows. It was a nice 15 minute walk through “New Town” to the main square of Old Town. I would stay here again and again and again. Thank you for such a wonderful visit !

I would not normally leave a review for a 1 night stay. However my experience here was not good.

On returning to the hotel in the early evening I genuinely thought the entrance door was locked after trying to enter. So I used the key as mentioned at check-in. This lead to whoever was on the desk shouting/berating me - in front of many other guests - because of me using the key. His tone was very inappropriate. You are paying the hotel you don’t expect to get this treatment- this person is in the wrong business if this is how guests are spoken to. It was perhaps fair for him to say something but the manner was totally unacceptable.

Otherwise the single room was pretty basic but with a nice bathroom tv/safe - however no kettle or fridge.

The hotel overall is pleasant and in an ideal location for both the main station and sightseeing. However now personally I wish I had chosen somewhere else to stay.

Hotel Markus Sittikus is very well-located near important Salzburg sights such as Mirabell. Not far across the river are the remaining key locations, including the Fortress.
Initially, the hotel seemed very pricey, and indeed, compared to others we stayed in, even in Munich, it was far and away the most expensive. However, it was reasonable within Salzburg and the surrounding area. It's just an expensive city to visit.
We enjoyed the public spaces (living room with coffee machine, bar, garden) and the friendly staff. Breakfast was bountiful, but very expensive and far too much for our appetites, so we ate there only one morning. Plenty of other options near by. Parking added to the total cost.

We all loved this place! Travelled with two friends and we all got our own rooms; they were small but well organized & perfect for one person. The staff were very helpful and friendly! There’s a coffee & tea room that was perfect for socializing.
Keep in mind if you have mobility issues theres are about 10 steps in then an elevator.
We all said we’d stay here if ever back in Salzburg.
