Spent two nights here while visiting Salzburg: this was one of the very best experiences we’ve had. From check in through the end of our stay, the service was impeccable. Room was amazing - we were second from the top with a 270 degree view of the city. We had a multi-course meal at The Glass Garden and an informal dinner the next night in their restaurant/bar: excellent wine and drink selection, exceptional food, and again wonderful service. The pool and jacuzzi area is beautiful, and we enjoyed that area twice. Short 10 minute walk gets you to an elevator that takes you right down to town. Perfect home base for a classy Salzburg adventure!

From the minute we stepped on the property was just beautiful and welcoming. Enjoyed the welcoming drink and snacks. Everyone was very friendly and helpful.
The room was clean, spacious and cozy. The property is just stunning, amazing views towards the city and surroundings. A place to unwind.

First of all the staff was amazing and so attentive to every detail and need. The room was beautifully decorated, clean and had everything you could possible want down to heated towel rack. The dining experience was delicious! The hotel is located on top of a hill but they give you a ticket to ride the funicular. We would stay there again!

Literally everything was perfect. Stayed in tower room #35 and it was amazing. The Glass Garden restaurant was impeccable and well deserving of its Michelin status. Breakfast was delicious. Every single member of the staff was polite, friendly, over-the-top helpful and welcoming. Our only regret is we could not stay longer. We travel quite a bit and this was easily one of the best experiences we’ve had with a hotel. Can’t wait to come back!

Amazing! Would love to go back!

We stayed for just one night ahead of a vacation with a tour group. After 2 flights and 2 trains to get to Salzburg, we were looking for a quiet place to relax. The staff were exceptional - we were greeted with champagne, our bags were brought directly to our room and our room was upgraded from a standard suite to a castle suite. The bed was a little on the firm side, just the way we like it. The staff gave us recommendations for dinner close to the hotel and free passes to use the elevator to take us down the mountain. We made the mistake of not reserving dinner reservations onsite in advance and the restaurant was fully booked for dinner by our 2pm arrival. After an early dinner, we came back to our room around 6:30 and within an hour we were both fast asleep for the next 12 hours. On checkout the next morning, the staff held our luggage while we spent the day exploring the nearby fortress. When we returned in the afternoon, they helped us with getting a cab to our next location.

Our room was fantastic, with a seating/dining area, comfortable king-sized bed and huge bathroom with walk-in closet, separate toilet, and freestanding tub under a huge, arched window.

The hotel grounds were equally as fantastic with the infinity pool, hot tub and several outdoor dining/seating spaces.

The location is quiet and remote, but surprisingly easy to access. Wooded paths from the hotel lead to the Modern Art Museum and Fortress.

What a wonderful experience at Schloss Mönchstein fr the moment arrived.

The staff was top notch, we had a glass of wine while our luggage was brought to the room. The room was perfect and made us feel like we were staying in a castle. Great pool and again everyone in the hotel was so pleasant and helpful.

What a gorgeous place. Amazing location, amazing views of the city. Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. We were upgraded (luckily because there are not a lot of rooms at this hotel). Upgraded room was spectacular. We decided to get massages and that was great, too (a bit different than what you’d get in NA, in a good way, but be prepared to be essentially naked and massaged almost everywhere! Very European…). The outdoor pool and hot tub are a nice touch, even though I couldn’t get into the pool as the weather was only 12C out. Overall, an amazing place and very, very highly recommended.

Beautiful mountain setting at Schloss Monchstein

Had an amazing stay at Hotel Schloss Monchstein. From arrival to departure the hotel staff were great. I had a personal request which was accommodated and all hotel staff went out of there way to help.
The setting of the hotel was beautiful, overlooking the city of Salzburg on one side and the backdrop of the mountains on the other. We stayed in the tower room which had great views all round, the beds were very comfy and the room was cleaned twice a day.
Breakfast was a lovely setting with a good choice of buffet and cooked foods. The table service was very nice and the food tasted great. Dinner in the glass restaurant was the same, a great setting and some superb food and drink.
The SPA made for a nice few hours of relaxing in the sauna and steam and then onto the jacuzzi which is set outside overlooking the city. (We waited for it to get dark before heading into the Jacuzzi).
All round the hotel was the best we have stayed.

What an amazing property. We had such a great time staying here. The staff went above and beyond to help with every request and were so friendly the entire stay. The walk to the elevator down to the city took about 6 minutes. Easy walk with no hills. The room was perfection. We had absolutely no complaints and will be back to visit again for Christmas Market and skiing next time.

From our arrival until departure everything about our stay was first class.We were visiting Salzburg for my partners birthday .We had booked a junior suite based on reviews of the hotel but on arrival, because it was my partners birthday we were given a free upgrade to the Apollo suite,(obviously i can only comment on this room).The room was spotless and beautifully decorated.
All the staff we interacted with during our stay could not have been more helpful ,they were professional but friendly not over formal.
The public rooms and grounds were excellently maintained with attention to detail in every aspect.
Both my partner and I had a massage. The masseur was very good he identified back and neck problems and we both felt a great deal of benefit from the treatments..
Finally we ate twice in the restaurant and the food was superb on both occasions.We are both vegetarian and one reason for choosing this hotel was the optional vegan menu.On the first evening we had the vegan tasting menu then on our last evening we ate in the hotel again and the chef produced a second four course menu with different dishes so we were not eating the same things twice.Every dish was cooked and presented perfectly and would recommend eating here at least once during your stay.
In short this was one of the best hotels we have stayed in and Would return and recommend without hesitation.

The Charm of Staying in a Castle

We were married in Salzburg 30 years ago, and stayed at Schloss Monchstein then, so it was a delight to return 3 decades later. The hotel has been added to and updated (and changed ownership a few times along the way), but they have managed to preserve the charm of staying in a castle, while adding in wonderful facilities (pool; spa; restaurant with a view).

Beautiful hotel and rooms. Staff is very helpful! The night we got in was around 1am and the front desk guy greeted us at our car by name, got our luggage and even brought us up a snack to eat. The cleaning staff are on point and organized our room perfectly. The bar is really nice. Breakfast has large spread available. We didn’t eat at the restaurant in the hotel. Location is walkable using the museum lift which they gave us a free card. Would definitely recommend this hotel!

This place was beyond amazing. We were welcomed with a drink in the cozy bar. Then the staff helped us up to our complimentarily upgraded room on the very top of the hotel tower overlooking the entire city. It was amazing! - There was even a TV that rose on command from a recessed cabinet. The views were stunning and the room was pristine. The staff were extremely helpful and responsive to any request that we had. We got a little too drunk at the Augusteiner beer hall (which is super close) and slept in past breakfast time. The next morning we thought we had missed breakfast, but the staff held breakfast late just for us to enjoy. Breakfast is huge with anything that you could possibly want. Yes, this hotel is expensive, but I think the value is definitely there and I would definitely stay here again! Absolutely recommend this place - the highlight of our entire trip!

I cannot explain how amazing our stay was at Schloss Monchstein. We were on an anniversary trip through Europe when we booked this hotel last minute when we realized that we had made a booking mistake in hotels when traveling from one city to the next, and found ourselves without accommodations for 1 night. We decided to stop half way and stay the night in Salzburg. I really wish we had found this hotel sooner because we would have spent more time in this beautiful city. Upon arrival we were directed to the cozy bar where we enjoyed a beverage while our bags were being taken to our room. Our room was a luxurious space with a king sized bed and an absolutely amazing bathroom. We were greeted with a personalized note welcoming us to the hotel, as well as some fresh fruit and a small cake for us to snack on. In the bathroom there was a adorable spa tote for your to use for any visits to the on site facilities. I loved that they also offered the totes available for sale. The front desk staff was very knowledgeable and directed us to a place for us to catch a late dinner. They also suggested that we take a short walk through the trees to the art museum, and take the elevator to the city level. The walk was very beautiful, and you were rewarded with an absolutely beautiful view of the city. At the end of our stay the front desk was happy to assist us in arranging a taxi for us to the train station. I highly recommend a stay here. You will not be dissapointed.

O.K., I'm spoiled. I've stayed at 5 star hotels all over the world. The Schloss Mönchstein Hotel is easily one of the finest 5 star hotels I have ever experienced. From the moment we walked in the door, the staff made us feel like royalty. Sabrina at the front desk was so helpful. She really made us feel like we were the most important guests at the hotel. The quality of the staff was evident again when we arrived late on our second evening and decided we wanted a late night drink in the bar. Even though we were the only customers in the bar, the two young ladies attending to us made us feel so welcome and assured us that we could stay as long as we wanted (even though I knew they could not go home until we decided to retire to our room). Not once did they tell us the bar was closing or that there was a \"last call\" for drinks. This may seem small to you, but every property I've ever stayed at would have told us the bar was \"closing in 15\". Not here, and that is a testament to the quality of the service and staff.

The property is immaculate. Not sure when the property was renovated, but it is obvious that whoever renovated the hotel spared no expense. The pool area is very well done. The pool and jacuzzi appear to be made from stainless steel and are the cleanest I have ever seen. We really enjoyed the jacuzzi after a long day in Salzburg.

The fine dining restaurant on property (The Glass Garden) is fantastic and highly recommended.

Disappointing.

I booked this hotel for 4 nights and immediately realized we land the next day and so cancelled our first night. However, when we arrived, after traveling for 30 hours straight and exhausted with jet lag, the staff met us to say we did not make our first night and they were charging us for it. This ruined our whole experience in Austria and I was stressed out every time I saw a staff member as they would ask about our payment. After 3 days, at check out, I told them I was sorry about the first night but I had cancelled so would not pay for it. They said we didn't have to pay and if I paid our visa bill they would give me cash back for the first night. As we drove away, however I notice the room rate was triple what they gave me Euros. I felt like they tricked me into taking cash and never meant to refund the first night and took advantage of us not knowing euros and being jet lagged, etc. Not the best way to start our European vacation but luckily it got better as we took a Baltic Princess Cruise that was amazing.

Stunning hotel location on top of mountain looking over the Salzburg. Hotel very clean, modern and up to date with facilities. All staff were exceptional, took great of us (including young family) and offered many extremely useful tips on making the best of our stay in Salzburg. This was a fabulous hotel, both inside and out.

We had a wonderful 5 nights in this hotel. All of the staff were brilliant - really friendly and helpful. We were offered an upgrade when we arrived and ended up in a suite which was gorgeous with amazing views over Salzburg. We had gone to Salzburg for our 10th wedding anniversary and found a bottle of champagne waiting in our room when we got back from our days travels on the day of the anniversary. Can't praise this hotel highly enough - we loved it. It should be noted that it is at the top of a mountain - a beautiful walk down, but not up! There is a lift but this is 300 metres from the hotel so might be problematic for those with mobility problems - it's a lovely, fairly flat walk through woodland, and is very well lit at night. It should also be noted that the lift closes at 11pm.

Beautiful hotel on a hill overlooking city

A short walk and elevator down to old town center. You avoid the hustle bustle of an in city hotel. In a beautifully restored old castle.

Worth the splurge!

My daughter and I recently stayed there for 1 night while in Salzberg. We loved it! The staff is amazing and we felt so special staying in this castle. It was a first class experience!

Spectacular hotel in a spectacular location

We arrived to the beautiful circular drive and were immediately recognised and met by the hotel manager who provided a welcome drink in the bar while our luggage was taken to our room. We were then escorted to our room to find a huge room with a bowl of fruit and an enormous bathroom. One of the few hotels which follow through on the Expedia upgrade for frequent travellers,

Throughout the stay, we were surprised by little acts of thoughtfulness by the staff, fabulous food in the restaurant, a charming location with a lovely forest walk to a lift down to the city. I'm not easily impressed but this hotel was just absolutely fabulous. It was a bit more expensive than we normally would pay but every aspect was outstanding.

Salzburg above old town

The staff and the food were absolutely fantastic. The location is fantastic and it is truly a beautiful place. The rooms and furnishings are out dated and need a serious refresh. The room size was massive and the bathrooms were definitely upgraded and spacious and clean. The heated bathroom floors were an absolute treat.

I chose this hotel because the previous reviews were effusive with their praise and it was centrally located. It is beautiful, private but easily accessible to central attractions. Wonderful spa, pool/hot tub, phenomenal staf.

A Magical Place

Spectacular location overlooking Salzburg! A beautiful walk to the elevator that takes you down to center city. Spacious room with luxurious amenities. Great massage by George at the spa. Wonderful staff! Outstanding restaurant!

A Great Memory

We had a wonderful time at this hotel! We were greeted at our car and spoiled for the next few days. It lived up to the reviews I had read before we booked. It is not cheap but worth the expense if you want a special memory.

Excellent hotel in salzburg

Schloss Mönchstein Hotel is a beautiful place. It locates up on the hill and has great view over the city from every corner. The rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated. Hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. If you take the lift from the next door museum to which the hotel provides the free pass, it is very easy to get to the ground level and walk to most of the attractions in the city. We had a wonderful stay in this hotel.
