Unclean hostel, bathrooms were disgusting. Pee stained shower floor, pink mould in the sink, no soap.

We alerted the staff to the fact there was no soap in any of the facilities and they shrugged and said “try another one then”

Staff were unfriendly.

Heater in the room didn’t work.

Only good thing was the location.

I was on the lower floor and every step a person makes on the floor above it feels like the celing is going to cave in. The walls are extremely thin. Everything in the room was nice and the room smelt nice. The bathrooms were as dirty/clean as the person that previously used them.

Good location, and clean and comfortable. But don't expect to get much sleep. Quiet hours (10 p.m. - 7 a.m.) are neither respected or enforced. (We saw too late that there is a number to call to report noise, but guests shouldn't have to do a staffer's job, anyway). Our three nights there were like staying in a frat house -- loud partying and music until well after midnight, including one night until 4 a.m. Never again for us.

I guess I should be happy that I had a room in Queenstown. To be clear I didn’t realize that when I booked this that’s it’s a hostel. I just feel it’s ridiculous to pay $289 Cdn as single person and get almost 0 amenities. The bed was excellent but it was a very hot room with no air conditioning only a small fan to move the air. I had no choice but to leave the windows open but my room faced the Main Street so it was very noisy. The curtains were falling down as the rod is not astrong enough to carry the heavy drapes. There also is no bathroom in the room and you have to use a shared bathroom. I have been paying approximately the same price in other busy tourist locations and this room definitely doesn’t meet the standards set by other places.

Was expensive in comparison to other hostels j stayed at which were much more modern, clean and close to downtown. Front staff super nice and welcoming.

It's obviously a budget option catering to backpackers and younger workers, but it's clean, friendly and central. There's a bit of demand on the shared bathrooms, but nothing you wouldn't expect from accommodation of this type. I would happily stay again.

Great location and comfortable beds! The staff are super nice and helpful (booked through a third party and there were some discrepancies but Haka House resolved them separately with the third party). Enough showers/bathrooms so we never had to wait. Only complaint is that our room was next to the lounge and that door is closed in the evenings (propped open during the day), which meant whenever ppl came and went at night, it kept slamming due to the door mechanism. Just bring ear plugs and you'll be fine.

It was very difficult to find the lodge as there has been construction around. Took us 20 mins to find that place at night. When we got in, we spent another 30 mins trying to figure out why our power points aren’t working. We tried ringing night shift manager and it goes straight into the mail box? We were exhausted at the time and just wanted to relax and CHARGE our phone!!! Turns out the main switch on the switchboard WAS NOT turned on… HOW COULD A GUEST KNOW THIS??? The bathroom. Again, shower does not work. We did not take a shower that night!!

On top of that when we got into bed. Bedsheet has the previous customers hair!!! HOW GROSS. THEY DID NOT EVEN CHANGE THE BEDSHEET!

I’ve never left a bad review. This is my first time and I will never go back again.

The only good thing about the place is. Easy location. Very central.

This is a basic accommodation hotel. I was not familiar with the concept of \"back packers\" in New Zealand until this experience. The hotel was basically ok but no room had private bathroom. We decided to move to another hotel after our first night instead.

I didn’t realise check in was until 6pm was stressing out that we wouldn’t be able to get in because we were travelling over, my cousin was in Queenstown and she called them up got everything sorted and gave us the key and everything was absolutely perfect so thankful for that. The stay was awesome perfect sized room for me and my friend nice and tidy, really comfortable and staff in the morning were super friendly!! Definitely recommend staying here

Great place to stay if you are looking for cheap and quiet accomodation within Queenstown . The facilities are great, have more than 4 toilets and showers, 2 kitchens and a lounge room. Staff are nice and helpful, security is ok, cleanliness is good- staff always vaccuum floor, clean kitchens and toilets. The only problem is noise insulation, I can always hear moving noise from other lodgers while sleeping. Generally deserves 4.8 out of 5 stars in my opinion.

The room was clean and surprisingly cool even during a very hot day. However, there's a distinct smell in the room - smells like sweaty shirt. The bathroom is very clean and the towels are fresh. For sure it's not a luxury hotel but it's bang on for its price.

The location is great and the facilities good too. The manager was friendly and helpful but that was it.. the staff didn't seemed interested when I tried to clarify things.

I stayed in a six bed dorm... It wasn't big enough for six people. It should really only be a 4 bed. Only 2 people could be on the floor at once and that was a squeeze.

Stayed in 6 bed mixed room for 4 nights.
I requested a lower bunk due to hurting my back which was granted but after having to really make a case over a telephone call, almost beg and assure them i wasn't lying. The allocated bed had a curtain with white stains a bit like sick or something so I took another bed. The bed I took had hairs on the black duvet cover and also the curtain rail hooks had come off. I asked reception to rectify which they did. Lady at check in was friendly and apologised. As we had window open in room to avoid smells I was cold and next morning asked another reception lady for a blanket to which they said I could use the communal lounging blankets. I asked when if it was clean and said once a week. I decided not to take one due to hygiene reasons and the receptionist offered no other alternative to assist me to feel comfortable and not cold. Asked the same receptionist for bus times for arrow town and was misinformed. The bed locker lock was damaged although working, but had to be pushed hard into place to lock and made noise. Personally I found bed and bedding uncomfortable. The bathrooms were clean with good shower pressure. Bathrooms on ground floor smelled of damp. Bathroom on first floor near lounge didn't. Kitchen was clean other than food storage boxes being dirty and mouldy, male staff washed one for me to use. Lounge looked comfortable. Nice outdoor seating. Two staff helpful, two not. It's ok for somewhere to sleep in expensive Queenstown

Kitchen gets locked so you can't get to your food

Rather strange design of building, which means that there is no communical space after 2200, which seems to mean that people sit of stairs etc and still make noise!
Also means that you can't have dinner after 2200 and more of an issue, if you are doing an early tour with an early pick up, you can't get breakfast.
Apart from that it was a comfortable stay, but they really do need to look at the design of the building to reduce noise and allow you to get an early breakfast!

Mum & I stayed here for 2 nights & enjoyed our stay. It was good that everyone kept to Haka’s rules. The hostel is in a great spot & easy walk everywhere.
The only thing i’d say is the smaller kitchen/lounge needs a dishcloth & hand towel as everyone was using the tea towels to wipe their hands.

Lovely place to stay

This is not a party hostel. It is comfortable, with pleasant people, all after a nice place to hang their hats. The common areas had an early curfew. But we didn't mind, as we were out enjoying Queenstown; and there are plenty of places to stay out late in. The bathroom facilities were individually locked; so at times we had to hunt for the vacant one, but you had it all to yourself when you got there. We had a private room, which was very nice. Our friend had a dorm, and his roommate snored ... they should really offer breathe right strips at all hostels. Only downside was the long wait for the washer (about an hour). But I absolutely had to do my laundry, and they didn't allow late night washing. Seemed unfair, since my room was the one next to the laundry anyhow. Regardless, I would stay there again. It was my second Haka Lodge, having also stayed at one in Taupo.

Haka Lodge Hostel - Queenstown NZ.

Stayed in a private room only for 1 night. Place was clean and adequate for what i needed. I only spoke to the staff over the phone as I had a late Check-in and they were friendly and helpful. The Wifi worked well. Can't comment on security / condition of dorm rooms though as mine was a private room.

I stayed there twice. The second time I sent a email to tell them I will be there late, and when I arrived they had arranged every things well for me. And when I checked out, the reception gave me a good help to storage my luggage. The wifi there works well with high speed, it is useful for backpacker to search information for their trip. I have to recommend Haka lodge Queenstown to anyone who wants to find a nice place to stay!

A small lodge, just a couple of blocks from CBD. It is just far enough away to be removed from the noise and bustle of downtown. Very friendly staff. Food, both restaurants and markets close by. Most people that stay here are very into doing stuff, rather than hanging out, so mostly didn't see other guests and it was quiet even when they were there. Good kitchen and shower/toilet facilities. Room was small, but very clean. TV was proprietary model provided evidently by the satellite company, very few channels, and only visible straight on , not at an angle. Small thing and , who needs TV when in Queenstown ? All in all a pleasant stay.

The hostel is quite homely with great staff always assisting with any questions, facilities are always immaculate whenever I occupied the showering and lounge facilities.

Couldn't be a better position- see the gondola out of kitchen window and so close to town! Parking is a bit limited so get there early, I like the beds they have kind of big drawers underneath the bunk that fit your suitcase in and can be locked so bring a padlock. The beds have a curtain you can pull all the way around so gives you privacy and keeps it dark and warm. Staff very welcoming and they sell earplugs for $1 in case you end up with a snorer in your room. BBQ night once a week.

Fantastic backpacker lodge with great facilities

Haka Lodge was a really awesome backpacker lodge to stay at. All the facilities provided were impressive - the wifi was reliable and unlimited (unlike some other backpacker places in Queenstown); there were heaps of utensils, pots, pans and other cooking items in the kitchen; and there was also a really nice lounge for chilling out.

The room itself was spacious and comfortable. Staff were helpful and willing to provide information and advice about activities to do in Queenstown.

small lodge nice for backpackers. Has full size kitchen, shared but very clean lodge and bathrooms, comfortable bed. Laundry in the back of the building is crowded, but got the job done. It would be nice if the windows have screens as small flies can get in, and the room is a little stuffy with closed windows.

This is excellent place to stay in Queenstown. ONLY 1-2 minutes walk from town center (iSite, freshchoice). Away from center so its quite at night. Rooms are little bit small BUT there is BIG DRAWER under a bed where you can put your bag (big enough) and put a lock on it. Bed is wide and very comfortable. Each bed has its own light lamp which is very useful, elect' socket and small shelf attached to wall where you can put a device while charging or some other stuff. Also each bed has curtain which can be closed for some privacy, prevent from outside light at evening or morning, or not to disturb others with your lights on at night. Kitchen is small but with two separate stoves. Big tables to eat and terrace to sit outside when having a meal. Very quite neighborhood. Not enough car parking space. Plenty of washing machines. CONS: Only 3 toilets and 2 showers!!! (at least I didn't find more). I didn't have any problem with toilets but showers sometimes had to wait.

Thank you for having a great time in Queenstown. I really enjoyed stayed in your hostel. I was in shared dorm. Each bed has curtain, drawer light, consent and small rack. That's awesome. Also there are nice showers, clean bathroom, big and tidy kitchen. I like all of them. Location is good. Just 5 mins from city center.

We enjoyed our stay with haka lodge, their service was good, and though the room was small it was nicely furnished. We were able to park our car in one of the limited on site car parks and walk in to town for the duration of our stay.
