The staff was the highlight of the stay! For a budget hotel, this place was amazing and had everything we needed for 7 days. It was close to everything, breakfast included, good AC and the warmest staff. They made you feel like home!

Excellent location and staff

Breakfast was always delicious, and the coffee is amazing. Staff went out of their way to help us out, and Leo and Alba gave great advice on where to go and what to do. You can order tours of the Rosario Islands through the hotel.
I got used to the cold water showers quickly.

We first booked this hotel because of the location. Everything is walkable, but not in the middle of the action so it's quiet. The best part was the owners and staff. Everyone is friendly but the owners went above and beyond when they bought me a birthday cake and sang happy birthday and sat with us.
There is fresh breakfast everyday, that was delicious. There's a really nice patio upstairs with a great view. This is a sweet little hotel, you won't be disappointed.

Location: by the sea wall. Where it is part of the walking tour, my room was room 11 has a balcony overlooking San Felipe Castle (20 mins walk from the hotel). Everything was within walking distance, 20 mins to the clock tower. Lots of dining options around the block. Airport is about 30 mins away with traffic, around 25,000 colombian peso (US$1 = 3,800 in money changer place). The area is safe as well, I travelled solo and no problems walking in the anytime. The most I was out was around 11pm. Many people hang out by the wall and it has a security guard 24/7.

Room: quite very noisy up to 12 midnight, it’s on the main road. If you’re a light sleeper then this room is not for you (rooms 12 and 11). But this didn’t bother me, I stayed for 4 nights and slept well. Water pressure in the shower, faucet and toilet flush is good. 2nd floor walk up. Third floor has the open terrace and has a jet tub, I didn’t have the chance to try it, kinda humid and mostly it rains every evening. All channels in TV are in Spanish. AC is excellent, no problem with it. No hot water, but you don’t need it, it comes out lukewarm after a few minutes. It’s a small room just enough for two people.

Breakfast: has 2 eggs everyday (sunny side and scrambled) fruits, fresh juice and the Colombian coffee is delish, I rarely drink coffee but i drank it for 4 days, it’s just that good.

Staff: the owner and everyone from the front desk to housekeeping are very helpful. I highly recommend this place.

Beautiful and wonderful stay

What a fabulous stay. All the staff went out of their way to be friendly and helpful and Cristian especially was such a gem. Nothing was too much trouble. Great rooftop area with views of the castle. The hotel is just beautifully decorated and rooms big, cool and comfortable. Excellent location, would highly recommend.

The place is nice but the entrance is a bit annoying and out of the way. You have to ring a bell to come in and have the staff open the door to get out. No big deal but I wish I could just come and go as I please without having to bother anyone.

Pros: great location for exploring Getsemani, super friendly staff, affordable, rooftop terrace, free breakfast was served, and having a check out time of 1pm was really nice.

Cons: wifi didn’t work in our room for majority of the time and room doesn’t block out sound from outside so it’s a little difficult for light sleepers in the early morning and night.

*no hot water, but the lukewarm water was definitely not a problem with the hot climate of Cartagena

Fantastic stay

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. Breakfast was perfect to start the day.. coffee…fantastic. We throughly enjoyed the rooftop jacuzzi. One thing is there is no hot water in the shower.. apparently this is in the entire area.. cool showers were great and definitely not a deterrent for a return stay. Staff and owner very accommodating, knowledgeable and helpful. Will definitely stay here if we come back to Cartagena. Highly recommend this hotel.

The rooms are very simple. A bed and little else. Bathrooms are tiny. The water is lukewarm, no separate hot water faucets, but fine for such a hot climate. By USA standards, 2 star.
For the right price, it’s a good hotel. The location is good and Getsemene is very fun. The air-conditioning is great, the bed comfortable, the owner speaks English and the staff Is terrific, good breakfast.

A truly wonderful place to stay while in Cartagena! Leo and the rest of the staff go beyond to make their guests feel welcomed and comfortable. The property is located just a short walk outside the walled city in Getsemani. This is actually a big positive as 1) Getsemani is a very cool area with lots of character and 2) the walled city is very hectic with tons of tourists and traffic. It was always a reprieve to come back to the Hotel which had a very relaxing vibe. I hope I can return again one day to Hotel Patio de Getsemani and wish the owners and staff all the best!

Great place to launch your Cartagena adventure!

We love this place. Very inexpensive and very friendly. So convenient to Plaza Trinidad (VERY fun area). It’s on the edge of the area but walking to other end is a fun 30-minute tour. Breakfast was fabulous with fresh fruit eggs toast and friendly conversation.

Wonderful stay!

I absolutely loved this hotel! We initially stayed one night, but the service was so great and it was so comfortable that we’ve decided to extend and book two more nights! It’s also in a great are, with most of the tourist destinations and restaurants within walking distance. One thing I’ll mention is that there is no hot water, but it’s so hot in te area that it didn’t really make a difference. And the water is Luke warm so it’s not uncomfortably cold. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience. Would definitely recommend.

Nice hotel with very friendly, very helpful staff

I felt at home here. Each person on staff was great. The rooms are basic but comfortable and the air conditioning worked well, very much a necessity in Cartagena. They do not have hot water but the showers were not unpleasant, I did not find that to be an issue. The hotel is located right on the edge of Getsemani so everything is very close by. This is in the middle of a neighbourhood, the buildings next door are a bit rundown, but I did feel safe walking back and forth from the hotel.

Cheap and perfectly close to everything

This hotel is a cheap no frills option when wanting to stay in the center of Getsemani - it's on the edge of the area where the street its on feels a little unsafe, but we didn't have any bad experiences with safety, it just felt more 'rundown' then the more centered part of the area. The breakfast was great and the room was clean.

Minimal, but well placed

The bed is comfortable. The location is excellent for seeing the sights. The area feels a little sketchy with people hanging out on the historic city wall (just across the street from the hotel) at all hours. Sometimes they like to yell things. I walked down this street quite a few times and no one ever bothered me. That is both at night and during the day. But it looks sketchy. I am a man. I'm not sure how I'd feel walking down this street at night if I were a woman. I don't think I would. Staff is wonderful. All of them are as kind and helpful as you can get. No one speaks great English, but they do speak some. And they will try to help in any way they can. You will not feel like no one wants to help - they are SUPER NICE here. Breakfast is always different and quite good. The rooftop area is a great place for a cold drink and to look out over the town. Drinks (coke, beer, etc.) are available for purchase and are very reasonably priced. Internet is not strong everywhere, but it is pretty good. No hot water in the shower - be prepared. But it is hot in Cartagena and this is not as a big a problem as you may think. Rooms have good air conditioners.

The staff at this hotel is incredible; over the top level of service and really cater to guests' needs. Example: I was being a fussy brat, pouting about how I wanted fruits which were more exotic than those they were serving. Instead of telling me they would pick some up for the next day's breakfast, they sent an employee out and he ran back to the hotel kitchen from the market in less than 5 mins with special fruit for me! Wow.

But the best example happened another day of my 5-night stay. I am a solo female world traveler. A rough local market doesn't scare me. I read about the huge and especially lively (i.e. unsafe) market and wanted to experience it. When I asked the hotel staff how to get there, they begged me not to go. They said I might get robbed, etc. When I insisted, they relented and gave me heaps of advice on how to stay safe and be savvy in that environment. I admit, it was far more rough than I ever imagined! I took a taxi there at 10:30am and stayed for an hour, after which I went straight into town and joined some friends I met in Medellín. When I finally came back to the hotel around 11pm, the manager and another staff member were waiting for me in a panic. They immediately asked me where I had been and if I was ok and told me how relieved they were! Of course I was fine, just out having fun! When I checked my email, I saw they had even messaged me saying they were very worried about me. Like having a family to look after me! Very charming.

Very comfortable hotel

We are a family of four, with two teenage girls.We arrived on a Sunday afternoon Esperanza and Leo were at the hotel entrance to welcome us. Our room had four single beds which makes it very comfortable for our family. As we settled in we immediately wanted to tour Cartagena. German the young man working the desk gave us a map of the city and proceeded to show us where the good restaurants were and how the city was laid out. We truly enjoyed the plaza that was near the hotel, it is not in the center of the tourist area but had good restaurants and a local grocery store. The first night in Cartagena there was a large Zumba class in the plaza where locals and tourist enjoyed. That was a lot of fun. The hotel has a great breakfast, and the staff goes out of their way to assure we are comfortable. Cartagena is a beautiful city which is rich in history

Pros: 10 mins from clock tower and all the main areas
Cons: in a poor neighborhood so it does have that scary Street feel but staff assures me the area is safe to walk in. I walked at night, alone, and it was OK.
Tip: if you're a light sleeper as for a room on the other side of hotel it's literally inches from a main road and traffic runs all night so you won't get sleep. Back rooms are much quieter
Wifi: excellent coverage and speed even inside the rooms BIG plus if you need to be connected.
The staff I cannot congratulated for treating me with superior service from moving me to another room to even great tour recommendations and places to go, they made you feel like you were staying at their home and provided tons of suggestions on what to do and where to go. Even the tours they offered were cheaper than the guides on the street. If you do not want to take taxis to get to centro and save money this is your best bet. After you get over the feel of the neighborhood and you only have to walk 3 blocks to get over it, all works out great.

A great value, really impressive. Quiet A/C, king-size bed, small but modern bathroom, very clean. Roof terrace is lovely. Staff were very nice and the breakfast of coffee, fresh juice, fruit and a small cooked-to-order entree such as scrambled eggs and toast is perfect. Fun area with lots of locals out in the streets.

Very good experience. This is a good value hotel for single people or couples who are looking for a clean and centrally located hotel to enjoy the attractions and nightlife in Cartagena. The room is small with a comfortable bed, attractive but simple decorations, and a very good air conditioner. The only negative comment is the shower head needed to be replaced (many holes were clogged) and the water could be a little hotter.

Pleasant stay at a reasonable price

This hotel is on the perimeter of the historic district of Cartegena. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. The rooms were comfortable but ask for an interior room to avoid hearing street noise. The beds were rather firm and the water in the shower never got hot. However, the included sit-down breakfast was tasty and sufficient. Walking distance to the main tourist plaza takes about 15 minutes. There was a pretty patio terrace on the top of the hotel.

Boutique hotel in Cartagena

This hotel is located in the Getsemani neighborhood, walking distance to the bars and hostels and a short distance to the walled city. The rooms are small, but there are not many so the hotel is quiet. Breakfast is nice. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel is on a major street so it is easy to find, but can be a bit noisy. Wifi was good, but shower was not hot.

This hotel offered an attractive rate online but at the time of the check-out they charged me a lot more of what I supposed to pay. Their explanation was that they had to charge me an extra fee for a rollaway bed, however, I had to sleep all the time with the person that was coming with me in a very small bed.
In top of everything the beds are hard and the bathrooms in the bedrooms are very small and uncomfortable.
Avoid being ripped off and having an unpleasant surprise at the end and stay in a different place. There are plenty of nice hotels/guest houses in the core of the old city that have similar price, are nicer and are located in much better and convenient location.

the hotel is itself a nice mansion but is surrounded by squatters -its a short walk from plaza Trinidad which is food and disco hub -and has great views of the san felippe castle from the roof top garden which is charming -the staff are very friendly and breakfast is superb -I didn't have a problem walking late at night but it could be intimidating -it doesn't have outer windows only the ones that open into the inner courtyard and the room I had did have an outer window which looked out on a shanty town and I heard various noises all the time I requested a room change and thankfully was granted a quieter room -Cartagena is very hot and its full of traffic I never stepped out of the walled city only took taxis to neighbouring areas but within the walled ancient centre its charming like parque bolivar parque franciso -plaza aduana and plaza domingo -and the bolvedas market place ,you can walk all over easily and its safe,just stick to art and culture and must sees are palacio inquisition and museo del oro -and the lovely cathedral and placa de relojo -the largest park is parque bicentennario in front of the convention centre and its a short walk from the hotel -some great graffiti is painted near to the hotel and it gives a very exotic ambience to the walks -recommended

Our stay at this hotel was for only one night, but we really enjoyed it. The room was quiet and comfortable. Breakfast was served in the morning as part of the stay. It was very good and the service was great! The only down-side is the hotel location. It is a bit out of the way in a neighborhood that is rather run down (be careful going in and out the front door, it is right on a busy street). The friendliness more than made up for the location. The rooftop patio has great views of the city for evening drinks or morning coffee.

Wonderful staff, clean comfortable rooms

Staff were very helpful and accommodating. We don't speak Spanish but were able to communicate the basics with hotel staff and they were very understanding of our limited Spanish. They spoke slowly and even used google translate to communicate with us. Breakfast was very good and the room was comfortable and air conditioned. It's true that there is no hot water for showering, but I believe that's the case in most places along the Caribbean coast. You won't need a hot shower anyway. The neighbourhood was laid back and only about a 10 to 15 minute walk from El Centro. At first we were hesitant to stay in Getsemani, but in fact it's the perfect location since it's not right in the thick of things and is quieter. We didn't venture out late at night, but the neighborhood seems safe and we never felt uncomfortable walking around Getsemani. You can see Castillo San Felipe de Barajas from the rooftop patio which I would recommend visiting. All things considered we found our stay at Hotel Patio de Getsemani to be perfect. Oh... there are even some English movie channels on the TV in the room if you need to unwind and relax in the evening.

as others have stated esperanza and leo were incredible hosts as well as the rest of the staff and cannot even begin to describe the incredible hospitality i received. nice 12 room hotel located across the road from the old wall with great view of Castillo de San Filipe de Barajas. i had room 12 located with view of castillo and facing the road. noise was really not that bad at all and worth the view. room was about 10 x 15 (which included the bathroom) and at first seemed a bit small but then room had king size bed. nice rooftop terrace with small jacuzzi, great for relaxing and reading and, again, great view of castillo. breakfast area has three tables with four chairs each so you may have to share a table which is fine so as to talk to fellow travelers. breakfast was always good which consisted of coffee, juice, granola cereal, sliced fruit, then something different such as scrambled eggs with diced ham and toast one day, then arepa con huevo another day, or a grilled cheese and meat sandwich another day. staff is always more than willing to help in any way such as booking trip to \"volcan el lodo de totumo\" and loaning towel or giving advice on how to get to la boquilla beach, which area is better and where to eat. loved the old door to the hotel and the hand made metal work behind the office desk and breakfast area. would i stay there again should i return to cartagena? without a doubt and would not hesitate to recommend hotel to others.

Loved the hotel, loved the staff

This was the best hotel experience I've had in a long time. The place itself is great--nice rooms, pretty rooftop, yummy breakfast. The location is also good (Getsemani has much more interesting things going on than the Old Town, and it's an easy walk to all the major sites).

The real winner, though, was the staff. Esperanza, Leo, and the rest of the people working were so nice and kind. My girlfriend got a cold while traveling and they were so generous in helping us--whipping up hot honey & lemon concoctions, extending our reservation quickly, and checking in regularly to make sure she was OK. It felt like we were staying with a loving family, not some cold business, and that was deeply appreciated.

We enjoyed staying in Getsemani rather than in the old city. This hotel was cheaper and in a more interesting part of town. Hotel staff was extremely attentive, and the facilities were nice. We had our best shower of the trip while staying here. The breakfast was tasty as well!

We stayed over New Year’s and everything in Centro was booked. Patio Getsemani is in the city walls and is easily walkable (no more than 1.5 miles anywhere, as a guess) to the sights in the Centro and to the old Fort. The room was clean and the comfy, if basic. There was a flat screen with Spanish and English language programming. The price was great, especially considering the holiday. This rate also includes breakfast, with delicious juices I'd never heard of , and a rooftop with a whirlpool tub with great views. And the staff was great– friendly and helpful. They even volunteered to loan us cash when we had an audio tour delivered to the hotel for which we had to pay cash, so we would not have to walk out in the heat of the day to an ATM. There's also a \"minibar” in the lobby area, with all your basics -- snacks, beer, and water, at very reasonable prices. Overall, I recommend Getsemani for a budget friendly, well-located stay, with friendly service. The negatives are these. Getsemani is a cool area, with a bar scene and street life, but I would not have felt comfortable there travelling alone. We had no problems -- it's just a still gentrifying, and raucous neighborhood. Our room was the closest to the hotel entrance, and the neighbors played music in the streets till the wee hours of the morning on weekends. The water temperature in the shower is lukewarm, but less of an issue b/c of the tropical temps outside.

The hotel is in a \"real\" neighborhood with families, homeless people, drunks, drug dealers and tourists. If this sort of reality bothers you, stay in Bocas and miss the real fun. The hotel is basic, no frills. The rooms have good AC and tv with a tiny safe (can't hold an iPad). Otherwise, anything advertised as \"in-room\", isn't at all. No minibar, kitchenette, laundry machines or espresso maker. Those exist, but not in-room or without additional charge. The 'hood is great. Trinidad square has great restaurants, live music and a good feel. I was disappointed as the advertised rate did not match up with the rate at booking. I'd stay here again but only at the \"sale\" price advertised.

Great service and location

Lovely hotel- warm, friendly and helpful staff. Our room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast always included fresh fruit and fresh fruit juice. There's a roof terrace which is perfect for watching the neighbourhood baseball match on a Sunday. Perfect location in the hip neighbourhood of Getsemani. Only minor drawback was a leaky shower which meant a wet bathroom floor.

Gem in Gestamani

The neighborhood may be a bit rough around the edges, but this little hotel is just lovely. Nestled in the lively neighborhood of Gestamani and two blocks from Plaza Trinidad, Hotel Gestamani offers clean rooms with AC and TV. Breakfast is included which usually consists of fresh fruit and eggs or cereal. The staff is attentive and helpful. For those who want to be in the walled city and don't mind a little neighborly flavor, this is the place for you.

We loved this place

After checking in way early on our first day and sleeping a bit we headed out of the hotel only to run into a very organized game of street baseball, which turned out to be par for the course for this amazing (though a bit sketchy) neighborhood. The front desk staff were incredibly helpful with our constant questions and drink orders (the beer's priced the same as the grocery store; drinks on the deck are a must). The breakfasts were quite tasty, one was among the better meals of our trip. One minor complaint, the wifi didn't work in our room unless we opened the window into the courtyard, but not a big deal.

Nice Hotel In Low Income area

It was very nice and did not mind the area but someone might feel unsafe. It should not be an issue since the police presence is very high. Must use common sense in all areas. Did not have toilet paper when needed. Staff needs to do a checklist. Staff was incredible and very professional. I would recommend it to anybody.....

Cute place in Cartagena

This is a really cute hotel close enough to the old town to walk but far enough away for peace and quiet! The staff were very helpful and sweet and the rooms were clean with great air conditioning! Breakfasts were small but good.

The hotel is on a relatively quiet street within walkiing distance of the major sites within the walled city. The staff is patient, helpful and very attentive. Good quiet a/c with nice remote for temperature control. I often get up in the night and read. I enjoyed doing so in the coolness on the 3rd floor terrasse overlooking the city.

Good budget accommodation in Getsemani!

The staff here are really great. The breakfasts were very tasty and different every morning. Nice budget accommodation in a less touristy part of Getsemani (so close by very tasty and more affordable food). Nice view from the roof with a jacuzzi on top.
