The Island Resort looks appealing from the outside and is in a convenient location, but the experience inside did not quite live up to that first impression.

From the start, the hallways did not feel clean, and the room itself fell short in terms of cleanliness and maintenance. A trash bin near the elevator was frequently overflowing with guests’ garbage, creating a strong odor that made the surrounding area unpleasant.

Parking added another layer of frustration. Guests were charged $15 per night, yet finding an available space was often difficult. Paying an additional fee naturally creates the expectation of reasonable access, so the lack of available parking made the charge feel hard to justify.

While some reviews suggested that room condition should not matter since guests mainly use them for sleeping, that perspective did not align with our expectations. Even if most of the day is spent at the beach, the room should still feel clean, safe, comfortable, and fully functional.

There were some positive elements. The walk-in shower, for example, gave the bathroom a modern look. However, the glass panel only covered about two-thirds of the opening, so water easily splashed onto the bathroom floor during normal use. Although the design was visually appealing, a longer panel or full enclosure would have made it far more practical.

We also encountered an issue with the balcony door, which did not lock upon arrival. Maintenance fixed it after we reported it, but the situation

We had ocean front room with balcony it was very clean and the view was beautiful. Location was good for our purpose (couple of restaurants next door) beach straight the back and was perfect. You do have to pay for chairs and umbrella on the beach. We did not enjoy the 2 restaurants on the property: Catina or Sea Oats). We did like the food at food truck on the property: Smashin Burger. kids liked the shakes from the shake food truck. We liked the drinks at the beach bar. Not sure what the resort fee pays for besides towels. Overall would stay here again.

$60 per day in \"resort fees and parking,\" that weren't included in the booked price.

Food was extremely expensive and terrible. Drinks were extremely expensive.

Rooms are terrible - small, very thin walls, so noisy that I had to sleep in the car with my 1 year old because he couldn't fall asleep between the screaming, ice machine, elevator, etc.

Location and pools were nice - not worth all of the other issues.

Child got sick the second day into our trip, had to take him to urgent care and leave a day early - the resort refused to refund the day we didn't use.

Will not be staying here again and would not recommend anyone else stay here. Stick with the Hilton down the street or move down to Alys Beach and pay a bit more for a much better experience.

The property was kept I good condition for its age. This is an older property that needs updates. The pools are nice with many lounge chairs. Be aware you have to pay for chairs and umbrellas at the beach. Not included in the resort fees you pay to stay here. Also you pay to park your car $15 a day. A pricey stay for not a luxury resort

Loved the location and everything was very clean. The beds are not comfortable is why I gave only 4 stars. We finally turned the tv on the last night we were there and it didn't work but a quick fix of batteries and we were able to turn it on. Bartender at beach wouldn't sell me the pizza in the warmer that had been there all day and ordered me a fresh pizza. Pools and jet tub were wonderful, but they could use more jet tubs! Nothing they can do about it but room next to us was pot smokers. We are not smokers and the stuff just stinks and wish people had more respect for others. We ate at the onsite restaurant for breakfast one day and dinner one night and both meals were very good + my pizza on the beach! Had singers playing music and was just the right sound! Son wished the ice cream truck was open while we were there. My hubby and I wouldn't stay again just because the beds were uncomfortable, but the teen/young adult had no complaints and would definitely stay again.

Dinner at the resort… we had an extra charge of hush puppies on our bill. Waitress removed the almost $13 charge, but yet the gratuity and tax stayed the same. I feel like this is completely wrong. How many people do not catch this and are screwed? Also photos of room were quite deceiving.

The rooms were not the best, at all. I really don’t know how this place was rated very good (probably for the pools). I had a leaking faucet that was never addressed, broken toilet roll holder. We had several shower towels that had multiple dark/brown stains on them. We stayed there for 7 days/8 nights and the rooms were not vacuumed at all. I question if they clean at all. Housekeeping didn’t stock the rooms with the proper amount of towels, toilet paper…etc. We made several calls regarding that issue. When we brought up the issue with the soiled towels, front staff said “It’s not my problem and that it’s a housekeeping issue”. Housekeeping was unreachable. We have two young girls and the last thing that I want is a poor quality room for them to stay in. What brings my rating to 3 is that the lobby was nice and the outside grounds with pools were nice as well as the bar. Beach was very accessible. Unfortunately I wouldn’t stay there again due to the poor quality of the rooms and services. This place seems more like a motel than a hotel . I do not recommend this place to stay. They did have a laundry room which was a plus.

The location and the property are great, but for rooms costing over $300 per night, I expected better maintenance. The curtains were dirty and damaged, and the bathrooms were not as clean as they should have been when we arrived.
The food was good, but the waitstaff could use more support, especially around the pool area, where service was slow at times.
That said, we really enjoyed the amenities and the convenience of the hotel. Overall, it was a pleasant stay, but there is definitely room for improvement in the upkeep of the rooms and service.

We were disappointed with our stay. The hotel is very outdated and did not feel like it matched the price we paid. We spent almost $2,500 for a three-night stay, which we understood because it’s a popular tourist destination. However, being charged an additional $400 for incidentals and nearly $200 for parking was excessive. Then when we got inside the bed housekeeping used 3 flat sheets instead of getting a fitted sheet we were in room 3029.

Parking was another frustration. Finding a spot was difficult, and having to use the parking garage made it even more inconvenient. For the amount guests are paying, parking should be much easier or included.

We also paid for breakfast but only ate there once. We barely used any of the hotel’s amenities—we didn’t use the beach or the pool because the chairs were already taken most of the time. Instead, we ended up driving to Destin to enjoy the beach there.

Overall, we feel this hotel is significantly overpriced for what it offers. The outdated accommodations, expensive extra fees, and limited access to amenities made it difficult to justify the cost. Unfortunately, we would not stay here again.

The Island Resort was a great place to land during our stay in Florida. The resort itself is older and smaller, but you cannot beat the pool and access to the beach! We loved having great food options available so close and the heated pool was where we landed on most days. It was very family oriented and had fun community gatherings on the patio between the resort and the beach. We loved sitting on the balcony and listening to the live music, all while enjoying the ocean view! We traveled with our 6 and 8 year old children and would definitely visit again!

We almost let the mixed reviews deter us from staying at the Island Resort. We are so glad that we didn’t as we had a very pleasurable experience! They let us check-in early. Every staff interaction was pleasant and helpful. Our room in the beach house (5th floor) was great and the view was top notch. The bed was comfortable, but not to sleep on, per se (we are spoiled with a Termpurpedic at home). We literally parked the car upon arrival and it didn’t move til we checked out. We didn’t find it necessary to leave the resort, which was so nice. There was love entertainment every night and fireworks off the pier on Wednesday. The beach set up crew is nice and reasonably priced. We never hung out around the pools, but they were always packed and well maintained. We loved the Sea Oats Bar/Restaurant; very nice experiences there and touches. We loved our stay!

Our stay at this resort was fabulous. They had the beach, a cool pool, a heated pool and a hot tub, all close to each other. The room key band was convenient.
Even though the breakfast buffet was delicious, we found it to be expensive if you aren't a big eater, or if you children aren't. We found it more reasonable to order breakfast off the menu.
For lunch and dinner there is a food trailer on property, but they are very slow. The Boardwalk is next door and convenient for lunch and dinner. They are several restaurants, and they were all very good. There are gift shops there as well.
The only issue we had was parking our rental van. The place is fully booked, but we did manage to find a spot every night. All in all, we had a great time, and would stay there again.

I don’t know what the other rooms were like but the one in the sunset house was like a motel 6 room but not as nice and sandy. It is very noisy as it faces the “party area” of the public area with the restaurants and public parking. There was loud music and motorcycles well into midnight or later at times. I’m not sure if the 1/2” gap between the door and door frame exacerbated that. The pool with the waterfall was very nice but at busy times there were rarely enough lawn chairs and one day the towels ran out which was inconvenient. The housekeeping staff were nice and would give you a towel if asked while the people at the front desk have never given a towel and would die defending their towels.

I recently stayed at this hotel and unfortunately, my experience was quite disappointing. The front desk staff were not very welcoming, which set a negative tone right from the start. When I raised concerns about my room—specifically a clogged and leaking sink, and a back porch door that wouldn’t open—they seemed indifferent and made little effort to address these issues properly. They even sprayed something by the door while my baby was in the room, which felt unsafe and inconsiderate. Despite these problems, I was not offered any compensation or solutions for the inconvenience.

The bar staff were also very rude, going so far as to throw my receipt at me, which was completely unprofessional and disrespectful. On top of all that, the parking situation is TERRIBLE, making coming and going unnecessarily stressful.

The only positives were the pool, which was great, and the beach access right in front, which was very nice. Overall, I cannot recommend this hotel based on my experience.

The resort was ok. This is strictly personal preference and coming with comparison to other resorts we’ve been to. The pictures online of the lodge buildings are deceiving as they don’t show the side buildings which have no elevators and are external access rooms like a motel. The rooms are quite small as well. My kids did enjoy the pool. However the one pool had a DJ and it was quite rowdy/spring break type crowd. We couldn’t enjoy the beach much as it was double red flags, but that’s out of our control. I’m sure the resort is up to par for some. For us, we only needed one night to get us closer to the airport and it served that purpose. I would stay elsewhere if given another opportunity.

Not large family friendly!

We booked this months in advance on a 5k budget traveling with 7 people (2 adults and 5 kids).
Upon making the first deposit, i called and immediately requested conjoining rooms as we were traveling with kids. They explained it was noted. I called 2 more times before the trip to confirm it was still noted that we need conjoining rooms.

The day of, I called while driving to the hotel when they told me they could not accommodate conjoined rooms and we would have to figure out how our family splits up. Even made a snarky remark about how they’re busy giving everyone want they want. There was no attempt to resolve this ( some effort would have been nice). Just a should shrug and explained they don’t have a policy on how old kids have to be in order to be alone in a room.
I would have even been content with 1 night split and as people checked out that they just moved our rooms. But just explained to us they cannot hold rooms for families like that.

5k for 6 days and our family was split up for the entire vacation. This wasn’t two families traveling together. This was my husband and I traveling with our kids!

I would have rented something else with the budget and time we had if they explained that upon booking.

4+ families just stay away.

For the price, we were disappointed with both the cleanliness and the level of service. Our room felt damp and humid the entire stay, the floors were sticky, and the shower leaked badly, making the room feel poorly maintained.

Service at the main restaurant was especially slow—we had to wait for every request, including nearly 10 minutes just to receive cream for our coffee. We also had to repeatedly ask for swim towels before finally receiving them. Overall, everything felt very overpriced for the experience provided. Additionally, the property was not at all flexible with either check-in or checkout times.

Another major issue was the excessive noise after hours. Around 9:30 p.m. and continuing late into the evening, there was constant noise outside our room. Guests were gathered in the area, and several had dogs that barked repeatedly, making it very difficult to relax or get a good night’s sleep.

Parking was a complete nightmare. When checking out was notified you get a nice $15.05 a day parking fee on top of all the others added when checking in. There is not enough parking close to your room. It’s best if you park in the garage next door and walk. The patio door would not lock. The room was okay. Everything needed updated from the bed, pillow’s and doors. Pillows were flat, bed had dips and shower head half clogged up. The entire stay only had 2 employees that was friendly and seemed like they wanted to help. Everyone else seemed like they did not want to be there. Noticed that there was a lot of people there for just the day which made the pools extremely crowded. Food on site was not really appealing it was basically Mexican dishes. The out side doors to come in the building did not work. So basically anyone had free access. As usual pictures used online was when it was new. Definitely not what we expected when walking out the main lobby. Don’t book a stay if they are having a wedding because you will get kicked out of your poolside spot.
Should go with out first choice and went further south and stay in Destin. I have never had to pay for parking when I’m already paying to park ass.

The room was nice and the pool was nice the restaurants had very good food. However the grotto bar was closed at 5:00 or 6:00 p.m. and there was a private company that you had to rent beach chairs from on the beach in front of the hotel and we're not allowed to set up your own situation in front of those chairs so you were blocked by the umbrellas and chairs from the private company that charged like $65 to rent them The food trucks were hardly ever open. Most of the activities were geared toward children. Room service was not available when it was supposed to be. We were surprised to discover that we had resort fee charges every day that were mandatory Even though most of the activities were for children and we didn't have children.

Have stayed at the Island twice now. We enjoy the stay each time. The room is always clean and maintained. The pools and beach are easily assessable regardless of room location. Kid friendly with activities suited for them. Restaurants on location makes for convenience. Staff is professional and respectful. We will continue our annual stays.

The only reason I don’t give 5 stars is because, they charged me for my kid when I selected here breakfast included. They told me it was only for 2 adults. And because my son is 14yo now I have to pay as an adult. I didn’t like the surprise fee.

Rooms were surprisingly dirty and not worth the price in my opinion…shower stains, broken things, outdated decor. Would have loved to get refunded some money especially with the additional charges that were added the day of(Parking fee)etc.

Loved the location and the pools. The food was good but expensive and even the coffee was not complimentary . The room with King bed was very basic and we had some trouble with the sink, and the noisy fridge. It doesn’t qualify as a resort or a spa in my opinion.

The standard rooms are dated and bathroom is pretty small. Big pool was awesome and the beach is right there

I want to love this place but after my recent stay I am very disappointed to say the least. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and the staff was amazing until we left. I was charged a $250.00 smoking fee when I went to check out. My husband and I do not smoke. We filled out a dispute form but it went absolutely no where. Every time I called to get an update or to speak to a manager I was told on multiple occasions that they were busy and would call me back and if I hadn't heard back by a certain time to try again. After the 4th call back I finally spoke to a manager to only be told I had to dispute the charge with my bank. What?? This was not explained to me when I filled the form out to begin with. They also charge a daily parking fee. Needless to say we won't be back!!

We stayed 4 nights here, the room was clean but it was HOT. We called down to the front desk on the first night and they sent up a repair guy, he basically said, there’s nothing he could do and that the hotel was aware of the air conditioner issues throughout the property. We won’t book here again because it was miserable trying to sleep, the beach service was nice though.

The music playing at bedtime. But then again we’re matured. Early to bed, early to rise. Other than that…CANT WAIT TO GET BACK. ZERO COMPLAINTS and I’m a bit of a hotel snob.

The staff and food were great. Rooms were maintained with bare minimum effort, with mold on the ceiling, dirty linens, and our room smelt like weed every night.

3 years ago my wife and I stayed here on our honeymoon and we were very impressed.
Fast forward to now and the place is showing its age . The door frame to the room was busted and repaired poorly. The door to the bathroom wouldn’t close unless you forced it.
The shower floor was filthy. The plug in the sink didn’t work and the faucet was difficult to turn off . The outdoor areas were very well kept though . The pools were nice and the beach was excellent. The parking lot is too small but I guess there’s not much they can do about that ! They need to put a traffic light in front of the entrance to the resort. Getting out of the parking lot was very difficult. All and all we enjoyed our time there but the place is definitely due for a remodel !

If you were looking for a family, friendly beachfront accommodation, The Island is a great choice. Amenities were great and the beachfront is beautiful. There was live music at a beachfront bar every night. Only note is that the two double bed room was pretty snug so if you’re traveling with more than three people, you might consider an upgrade from that.

We love the island. The resort is very nice ,All of the food that is made there is delicious from the cantina to the main restaurant, even the pizza place. We love both pools, and can expect to be cooled off at the grotto pool no matter now hot it is outside. I sleep very well when we stay here.
