This hotel is run down. The rooms are right on the beach or right on the pool which is great, but they are small and very run down. I was extremely disappointed. The staff made an attempt to charge me with a smoking violation when i wasn't even at the hotel for 250.00! Take lots of pics people otherwise they will charge you. If you have a smoke sensor go off, shouldn't you make sure there isn't a possible fire? Not one person checked out room.
The constant daily charges, the nickel and diming made our stay unpleasant. Disappointed to say the least.

I have stayed at this property many times over the years. This year I was disappointed. The staff was always courteous and helpful. My view from the second floor was partially blocked by a food trailer. Ran out of wine at the Tiki bar, never restocked, although they said they would. The beds were uncomfortable and hard. The occupants in the room next to us sounded as if they were using a strap for recreational activities, with a lot of moaning and yelling.

After the delay to get checked in to our room due to it not being cleaned., the room was nice & had a good view of the Gulf. Pools were very nice & there were several bar areas. The hotel & rooms were a little dated, but overall good for a family or college group. Beach was nice but bring your own chairs or be prepared to pay for chairs & beach umbrella.

Terrible service by the front desk lady and the manager!!!!!! Wrong charges on smoke detectors by $250 … scamming people who stayed there by saying your room smoke detector activated and you have to pay $250 . We were not in the room that time and we have to get video proof from the restaurant where we had dinner on that time and waste our whole last day in the trip !!!! Stay where ever you want other than this scamming resort who don’t have 1% of Hospitality understanding how to take care the precious costumers who give them the business!!!!! Worst stay ever!!!!!!!!!

I stayed for 4 nights for a business conference, and there were definitely some pros and cons.

PROS:
- The conference space and views were perfect!! We had ocean views from the different rooms, and a balcony space to get some fresh air between sessions.
- The beach is immaculate and right on the property, but you do have to pay to use the chairs and umbrellas.
- Located right next to a few restaurants and a fantastic coffee shop
- The pools were really nice, and the property itself had a lot of seating and a good happy hour

CONS:
- Cleanliness was an issue, as my room had sand in it and stained towels upon arrival
- Noise was my biggest challenge. I had a connected room door and I could hear every word spoken in the room next to me. There was also a lot of yelling in the hallways and by the pool late at night. One night, they had an issue with the pool music blaring until 2am (apparently it was controlled by an app no one on the property had access to). It was really difficult to sleep, and I wish at a minimum ear plugs were provided as I know they receive this feedback often.
- The rooms are also very bright, even with the blackout curtains

All in all, you're paying to be beachfront and use the amenities such as the pool.

The location to the beach was perfect. Great view from our balcony. The landscaping was beautiful. The staff were all very nice.

We did not use any of the amenities - pools, but they looked very nice.

The cleaning staff only came to our room twice. They seemed to be cleaning the rooms around our rooms and not ours for some reason? The ac was very loud!! Tough to sleep with it.

The room was too small, no balcony. The window was next to the aisle, if you open the courtain, everyone walking can see you inside. Breakfast buffet, the same everyday. The water at the Waterfall Pool was very cold, no one went in. Umbrellas and chairs at the beach, not included $50 a day.

*We visited the resort for 4 nights for a family getaway with our two teenagers. Was off season so the resort wasn’t crowded. Staff was friendly, most were bi lingual, all helpful.
* Upon arriving we ordered groceries from Publix via Instacart. We got a case of water/gatorade, frozen breakfast sandwiches, iced coffee, creamer, deli meats and snacks which covered us for the first two meals of the day. For dinner we walked to the boardwalk, which had a couple of Restaurants there. Our favorite was Floyd’s Steakhouse. We did not eat at the resort based on reviews.
* The resort had beautiful views of the ocean. There were two pools, the main one with water feature and the second was a smaller heated pool. We spent our time here when we weren’t at the ocean. Got busy in afternoon but were always able to find a lounger. Towels also on site.
* Ocean was lovely. Rented chairs one day and used the free loungers in the grassy area the next. We also rented a boat one day and went to Crab Island which was a lot of fun. Lots of food vendors on dinghy’s selling all kinds of foods (not alcohol). Scary part was crossing the main road to get to boat rental place.
* Room was OK. Always felt sand in the floor, even when we checked in. Hotel has been updated in some ways, but lacked a full length mirror and extra blanket. Air didn’t have a fan either, so was on or off. Smokers on balcony were frustrating as it went into our room.

Lots of little costs added up. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

My sister came with me and was in another room and when we went to check out they were going to charge 250 dollars because they said they detected smoke in her room at 4:30am on the first morning. She is not a smoker and they didn’t tell her until check out, seven days later. It was a big hassle checking out and they told her they wouldn’t take it off her bill and she would have to dispute it.

When we checked out they tried to charge us a $250 smoking fee. They said it happened a week earlier at 4:20 am. They said a machine detected it and it automatically charged your room. We do not smoke and we were sleeping at that time. They wanted us to fill out a dispute form and deal with it later. After an hour I finally got them to remove the charge.

The worst thing is the AC is on a timer. My hot flashes AC on a timer sucked. The staff explained it like it is what it is sweat.

Booked a 4 night stay with the island for my wedding weekend. Got their for check in and the “resort” room was a motel. AC not working, about 76 degrees in the room with ants on the baseboard. We immediately went back to the front to get an upgrade hoping that would be better for our special weekend. (Seeing as we paid about $1000 for these four days) We then got an upgrade to the beachfront and it was a little better, cleaner and AC was working. It was a decent room and this time was more like a hotel room. Unfortunately it was not as spacious and comfortable for a wedding weekend. We went to talk to management at front desk to try and cancel this booking and get a refund so we can get a room somewhere else. The staff upfront told me that since I booked through Expedia, there was nothing they could do. I called. Expedia got them on the phone and they were trying to get a hold of the island. Once I communicated this with the island staff, they refused to talk to Expedia and gave me an email to submit a complaint too. Three days later they emailed me saying there was nothing they can do. Overall losing $1000 I’m having to spend even more for a new room was a horrific experience. Customer service at this hotel is less than satisfactory and I wouldn’t recommend their normal rooms to anyone!

The pool was good, and our room overlooked it. However, the room needs some renovation. The shower needs a door; it spills over to the floor every time, requiring multiple towels each morning. Some wallpaper was also coming loose at the bottom. The rooms are clean. The best part is the hotel's access to the beach and its walking distance to the boardwalk with many good restaurants. It's also great that the hotel provides 2 free breakfast buffets with the rooms.

The hotel room was old. Peeling wallpaper mural, peeling bottom of the bathroom door. The majority of the bathroom fixtures were loose. Mold in the shower. The toiletries weren't filled. The cheapest bathroom toilet paper and tissue possible. A daily resort fee of 29$ +tax, used or not. A daily 15$+tax parking fee. These are on top of the price of the room. We were charged 250$ because we were told our room smoke detector went off. Neither I nor my husband smoke. I believe it was payback for the bad review my husband left the first day. This place has a good location and comfortable beds.The AC is loud and coming apart Paper thin walls. Definitely not 4 stars. Definitely not worth the money.

The resort was family friendly. The resort had direct access to the beach. We frequented the heated pool during our stay. The other pools were a little chilly yet. The bar hours were limited and drinks were fairly pricey. There was only one restaurant option on site. Staff were very friendly. We had the pool view room, which had a balcony that was great to hang stuff out to dry. The wristband key card was nice to have instead of needing to carry a room card around. Overall, would recommend the resort .

Stayed at the The Island Resort at Fort Walton Beach and was very disappointed. The hotel is outdated and feels more like a 2-star than a 4-star. The rooms and common areas were not very clean, and the towels and linens looked worn and dirty. There was even sand around the bed, which made it seem like the room wasn’t properly cleaned.

Housekeeping also threw away my personal item, which was frustrating. The only positives were the ocean view and the food trucks.

Overall, the pricing does not match the quality. I would not stay here again.

Watch out for the misleading pictures of beautiful chairs and umbrellas by the beach right in front of the hotel. They are not free for resort guests . It’s paid by the day 2 chairs and 1 umbrellas cost $50! Breakfast might also not be included if booked with Expedia. Housekeeping only switch towels , they don’t clean the floors on a daily basis. Not my best experience with cleanliness.

In general staffs at front were nice and friendly both day and night shift. Especially I appreciate the attentive efforts of the bar manager Ms. Michelle. Ms. Michelle was outstanding and professional for the guests at resorts.
But i noticed this resort has been changed in a bad way lately and even several \"policies\" at this place got more \"strict\" in an awkward way including the 250 dollar for deposit. Here and there not so much clean anymore especially the bottom of elevators. Dirty carpet on the bottom which gives the unpleasant atmosphere to the point of some kind of hinge and poor motel in the remote island. Oh my gosh...why the resort does not invest or make efforts for the basic facilities, I just wondered.
And also amenities including the inconvenient to use the LID of shampoo and conditioner etc..let alone the poor quality of soap. Although we have been loyal for a few years in a row for this resort including this year and although we even PROUDLY brought our guests every spring or summer or even winter to THIS RESORT because we loved the spirit of staffs, facilities such as the beautiful pool and the deack board bar especially foremost the room with ocean view, but we did observe this resort has no the same philosophies as before. The african american female manager at front
doesnt seem to appreciate the guests at all and doesnt say hello or give greetings to other waiting people to check in. IT TELLS A LOT.

This hotel is rated as a 4 star but it did not feel like it. The parking is tight and there is barely any parking near your room. People were smoking weed every single day and I could smell it in the hallway and outside the grounds AND cigarette smells on the beach. This was supposed to be a family friendly hotel but that alone made me want my money back.
The sheets had sand in them as if they didn't wash them. The towels had stains on them. The floor was also filthy. It left my socks black. The door to the balcony didn't lock. The shower would splash water all over the floor because half of it was not enclosed in glass.
The room itself was small. There are parking fee's. Overall this felt like a 2 star hotel. It was not up to my expectations. I would not recommend this to a family with kids.

The pool was really nice but it wasn't heated so the water was too cold to get in. I wish they had vending machines to get drinks or snacks late at night but they did open the gift shop for us to grab snacks. We wouldn't have known it was open if we didn't call. The gate was closed when we walked by the lobby.

Over all, It was a very relaxing weekend. I am glad my friend and I got to go. We had a wonderful time.

Not very sound proof rooms. You can hear the neighbors, elevators, and ice machines. Pool music plays til 11 on weekends so if you have a room that faces the pool, it will be loud until that time. That wasn’t as issue for us, but for families with small children, it would be hard for them to sleep. Not every child stays up that late.

Every staff member I spoke to especially at the front desk seemed bothered to assist. The hallways and rooms are dirty and there were other guests screaming and carrying on. Banging doors and shouting past midnight and thru the early hours of the morning. Every time I tried to call front desk to ask them to send someone to address the issue…the line was busy…for hours and fast busy like they turned it off. Pools are clean but that’s it…everything else is dirty and unkempt and unless you are a college kid or an all night party-er this is not the place for you. Not family friendly….the smell of weed is overwhelming outside. It’s so bad that the hotel has sensors in the rooms to detect smoking so everyone smokes weed and vapes in the hallways and common space.. it’s also not safe for females alone….lots of places for someone to lay in wait

The pool was ok, the staff member Alexa was sooooo rude and unprofessional after asking for toilet tissue multiple times, she smirked like it was a joke. We didn’t have any tissue our entire stay and ending up leaving early, and finding another hotel. My children were devastated. I will NEVER stay at this resort again. Loved the breakfast buffet! Carpets in hallways could have been vacuumed more often. Overall staff was nice and good place to stay on the beach!!! By far best service in the dining area for breakfast and food was delicious!
