The atmosphere and ambience was wonderful in this historic old inn and staff were very friendly. The pub was gret but no food is available because they are no longer running the restaurant. Conveniently located for touring the Cotswolds and Stratford on Avon by car
Biggest issie is very poor wifi in rooms except on phones, ipad connectons dropped off as soon as you leave the main pub area

Friday night at the Mary Arden Inn

A lovely village pub with ample parking. Flag stone floors in the main bar and plenty of seating front and back gardens.
Only a couple of letdowns were the shower didn't work (slight dribble) but amazing water pressure in the bath made it a bit difficult for someone used to shower-this would be a simple fix.
The room was spacious and clean and clearly some effort has been made to spruce up by the new owners.

This would be a fantastic destination pub if food was available and could possibly turn the future of this vital village asset into a blooming business. and we really wish them luck.

My stay was ok. Took over an hour to check in when it didn't appear the pub overly busy. They did provide a complimentary drink at the bar for the inconvenience, so that was good.

The room was dated, but clean. The mattress was very firm and squeaky, but on the whole the room was ok. If you are looking for a cheap and cheerful stop off near Stratford then this would be an option.

Made a booking to stay overnight, as I was working late and did not want to travel home.
Received confirmation of booking and travelled to location, to be told that there were no rooms available!
Ended up paying twice as much trying to find alternative accommodation at 9.30pm.
Not happy.

Nice village, close to Stratford

Admittedly the cellar was flooded but it was also very tired, no shower curtain or fitting for head or toilet roll for example. Due to flooding (from storm) there was no bar/food or coffee area. It is handy for Stratford and Landlord was a lovely guy

Amazing stay

Absolutely fab stay staff amazing and friendly couldn't do enough to help. Rooms and pub a lovely with original features room was spotless and bed comfy. In a nice little village. The owners Rob a Vicky reserved us a table for the football was really busy but no wait on drinks service was flawless. There not currently serving food but buffett platters was put on all tables for free during the football game which was a lovely touch. Will defo be returning and recommend to others.

We had a confiirmed booking for thi property, emailed confirmation fron Expedia receoved. We paid an extra ten pounds in case we had to cancel it/ We then received an email inofming us the hotel was actually booked up and thay they had booked us into a different hotel several miles from Stratford. Very unimpressed. I trued to explian the issue to Experian but was just referred back to the MaryArden hotel to sorgt out myself

The first thing you must remember is this is an INN not a hotel. On arrival we were greeted at the reception desk and everything was explained re Dinner Breakfast etc. We were shown to our room (Merchant of Venice) which was very spacious and warm. If anything a little too warm even though the heating was not on. Found out later we were above the kitchen. The room was clean, the bed comfortable although you couldn’t lay on the bed and view tv as it was on a stand too low down. Bathroom was okay although not the bathroom we thought we were going to get as in the pictures of the room I’d booked it had a jet spa bath. This one had a standard bath with shower. Shower was okay. Breakfast was cooked to order and there was plenty of choice of cereals and teas. Overall score 3.75/5

This is a small very rural Pub type of B&B very quiet and friendly ,
No shops,no street lighting , no bus,, but the train 1 per hour is only 10 mins walk away , there was no trouble getting taxis , for which the fare into Stratford is £10

Staff were really friendly on arrival and throughout the whole stay. Breakfast was lovely. Room and bathroom was clean, furniture a little dated. The dog got a lot of fuss which he loved and a dog biscuit in the pub. Will definitely putting this on the list of hotels I want to visit again. Although a little bit out of town only £10 each way in a taxi so great value stay compared to the centre of Stratford.

Ok if you are looking for cheap well located

The problem with this place is it is trying to be something it is not. The rooms are advertised as being Shakespeare themed but other than the names they are just rooms. Free WiFi is also advertised but nothing in the room. I had thought they had free WiFi in the bar and were passing that off as free room WiFi ( annoying but fair enough) however only one network appeared in the bar and the signal was so poor that my 4g had to help it out! This really annoyed me as I have 3 main selection criteria one of which is free WiFi. The bed was really uncomfortable and in closer inspection was damaged. The bathroom was covered in mould. Food was alright - cheap pub grub not the brasserie prices we paid for it and the service although quick and efficient was lacking - waited 25 mins to be asked about dessert and then gave up and left. More worryingly the pub was quite busy despite being 6 pm and a number of what I assumed were locals were talking very loudly. One group were racist about 2 different groups of people within ear shot of the diners. No challenge from anyone staff or otherwise. In summary everything is fine for 65 quid a night but the promises made on their website and trivago and expertise really are just fiction. No hot tubs( apparently there is only one in the place) no luxury, no WiFi and no fancy food. The main thing that needs to be addressed is the mould - felt cleaner before the shower!

Wont be going back

I don't normally write reviews but this deserves one. On arrival the toilet needed flushing, the shower drain smelt and I washed bits out of the kettle before use. The room was basic and the breakfast wasn't getting any better. Sticky table, dirty cutlery. I'll go elsewhere with £80 next time thanks.

The overall look of the inn was in keeping with its age. The room was not as well appointed as I would have wished, they were a little tired. The hotel was very short staffed, with one girl seemingly doing everything. Dinner was only open to guests and the selection was very limited. Only one choice for gluten free people such as myself. Overall it was okay for a one night stay. I would recommend it for an afternoon drink but not for an overnight stay.

Lovely hotel

Had a lovely stay, Mary Arden's farm and Wilmcote station or the sightseeing bus are just a few minutes walk away. Friendly staff and we stayed in the Romeo and Juliet suite, which has a jacuzzi tub!
Breakfast was included in our stay, it was excellent value for money all around.

We arrived around 1.30pm and the room wasn't ready but it does say check in 3.30pm on website so expected to wait. The lady did ask the cleaner to do our room next which she did so we didn't have to wait too long,The room was a bit dated could of done with a freshen up and the carpets weren't very clean either. We spent the rest of the day in Statford and decided to finish the night back at the inn so we arrived back there at 9.30pm to find that they had just closed the bar. Really disappointed at this as we were celebrating our wedding anniversary and thought as the inn was a taxi ride away from Stratford we would be settled for the night. We were late for breakfast as it wasn't really clear of the time it finished(bank holiday) but the lady did make us one and it was very nice.

Stayed in king lear room four poster bed .
Room was a bit tired need seriously updating , bathroom was a joke .
The hotel is being updated and refurbished soon , will be a excellent place to stay then .
Manager and staff were lovely .
Breakfast is excellent, had fish chips in the bar was also excellent .
The bar , breakfast room is really nice and very good standard shame about the rooms at moment .
King lears room has a ghost , I felt some one stroke my neck and then touch my foot in bed ,was frightening but exiting .

Charming inn, we were pleasantly surprised to be shown to the Romeo & Juliet suite complete with four post bed. A large room with a large bathroom equipped with jacuzzi bath. Not that we had time to use them but lots of added extras hidden in draws and cupboards like headphones for the CD player, advd player, hair dryer, iron and ironing board.
We would definitely recommend the Mary Arden Inn.

Great value in Stratford-upon-Avon area

We arrived without our luggage, and the manager worked diligently with the airline to ensure our suitcases were on the way. She addressed the issue even while we had to leave for an event. We should all be so blessed by such a caring and aware hostess. The hotel is across the street from one tourist destination and although it is a distance from the town center, we noted city buses went down the street. The price is very good, so the value is high. It is an old-fashioned inn, so don't look for the latest in showers and so on, but it's clean and nice. The breakfast room has a great atmosphere.

Didn't even get to stay!

Booked online as it was getting late driving home after a stay away. Got there just before 10pm to check in but the hotel was locked, with all of the lights out downstairs. Tried ringing the doorbell and phoning up but no answer. All other hotels booked in the area meant we had to sleep in the car.
Very poor considering the good write ups!!

A homely, hotel, full of character

The hotel is situated in a very quiet village only 3 miles from Stratford-upon-Avon and is in a beautiful setting. Is is full of character with log fires and oak beams. The room was very spacious with a nice bathroom, and everything was clean and comfortable. There is a good sized bar with a range of quality cask beers, reasonably priced. I didn't have an evening meal there, but I had a full English Breakfast on two mornings and that was delicious and nicely presented. The accommodation price was very reasonable when other hotels where more than twice the price for comparable accommodation. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to family and friends, and I will definitely be using it again

The webpage says 5 mins from 'rail station' so one assumes it's Stratford-on-Avon 'main'; we went 3 stops too far [past where we should have alighted] and had to take our cases around with us all day sightseeing in Stratford centre till we could check in. Had we known it meant Wilmcote 'local' station we could have got off there and left our luggage 'till check-in time. Then we had to get back on the train to the Mary Arden Inn and were charged to go back to where we had passed by earlier.

I couldn't fault the Inn, the staff were very helpful and nothing too much trouble. The room was cleaned daily with fresh towels and tea making facilities. There was a good choice for breakfast and the evening meal was good. I wouldn't say the hotel was convenient without a car. Although in a beautiful spot right away from it all, it was a bit isolated without transport.

We had a really nice stay, our suite Romeo and Juliet was fantastic, very cosy. The restaurant meal that we had was cooked perfectly as was the full English each morning. Staff were lovely. We would go back.

Info on website misleading - themed bedrooms were just named after plays, once inside ours was a standard double room. Cobwebs on lampshade and rubbish brushed under dressing table curtain. Stayed 2 nights - room not cleaned after first night, bar staff emptied bin when I complained, was told they were busy and housekeeping were needed behind the bar. When checking out, manager told me housekeeping had gone home with the key. Apologised for rubbish in room, not sure why, as room previously not booked as was decorated - yet dirty marks on the wall so clearly not had a lick of paint. Cooked breakfast was good except you had to boil the kettle and make your own tea...in a cup, no teapots available! Also the fruit on the first day was a little over-ripe! Also had to make your own toast if required. Evening meals available in the pub - times on website different to reality - meals served after 6pm on Saturday and only Sunday lunchtime - no evening meals Sunday evening.

We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel, the staff made us feel very welcome and even made a lovely Birthday and engagement gesture when they realised why we were visiting the area. Needs quite a bit of tlc. Dirty water in flower vase on reception desk incl dead flowers. A bit of 'Flash' on the stair handrail and doors wouldn't go amiss, (this is b4 you get to your room) lack of lighting in bathroom bath tap broken no privacy curtain. Water dripping through dining room ceiling whilst we ate. Breakfast SUPERB. A minimal amount spent to rectify these things would yield a better outlook

The Inn could be lovely, but needs updating, room was tired, no hot water, either at night or in the morning. Breakfast was very nice, bar in the evening was fine, bar food was ok too. Good location for access to Stratford without being in the centre of town. Very pretty village location.

Well placed only 10 minutes from town centre.

The hotel looked tired and in need of a facelift. Having said that, the bed was comfortable and the room was adequate. However, the bathroom was awful. Some of the floor tiles were broken, the radiator was rusty, the woodwork was badly scratched, worn and grubby but could be put right by a coat of paint and a good clean. Worse of all was the shower; the shower head was lying in the tray and we discovered why - it dripped all the time. The shower tiles were very grubby and we didn't risk having a shower because the head looked too dirty. We were very disappointed.

Value accommodation close to historical sites

The accommodation was functional and the main parts such as the bedding and bathroom were in themselves clean but the general decor of the room was a bit tired. The wall where the tea and coffee was stained with water marks and the hook from the bathroom door has been taken off and not replaced. Everything felt a bit dated. The staff were pleasant but after reading some of the previous reviews, it felt as though many did not expect to be rated as being any better. Some spring cleaning and a touch up of paint could make a huge improvement . We ate in the evening and there was a problem with my main course which was dealt with, but again, it was as if it was no surprise that I should complain. The food was stodgy and unhealthy and the breakfast set up was basic and undressed.

We arrived on a Friday afternoon having booked and paid for a superior room, only to be told that this was not available. We were then taken to a room directly over the bar. The shower was not fixed to the wall and the head damaged. The kettle did not work and the furnishings were shabby. The bed was only a double although we had booked for a king size. We had an evening meal in the bar area which was adequate but breakfast the following morning was woefully inadequate - one over-ripe banana and some mangy grapes, no yoghurt, initially no milk or fruit juice, no marmalade and long wait for any cooked food. We had a terrible night's sleep as the Karaoke in the bar went on until midnight followed by very noisy clearing up until 1.30am. All in all a very disappointing experience.

There was an initial problem with the booking. It seems when you input 1 adult and 1 child and the drop dowm menu appears for the age, the manager sees the number of children in fractions. :) Anyway, although the room wasn't available when we arrived, the manager was very accommodating and worked things out.

Lovely room, comfortable bed and great food.

The Mary Arden is 3 miles outside of Stratford Upon Avon in a quiet residential neighbourhood which was nice as it was close to the town centre but quiet at night time. The room was clean and not cluttered and you had room to move around and the bed was very comfortable. The food was well cooked, fresh and delicious.

The rooms are basic and tired looking, the skirting boards need a good wipe. There was only one cup in our room and no milk, we asked for another cup and some milk, we were told that it would be sent up to our room - it never arrived. The food in the restaurant was of average quality but overpriced, service in the bar was slow. Breakfast was very nice.

Pleasant pub, hopeless hotel

Reception deserted on arrival: 10 mins wait. Two lights in room not working, one missing its bulb altogether. Bathroom light blew up when switched on, blacking out the entire room (fixed reasonably quickly but symptomatic of the whole experience). No towels in bathroom - had to ask for them. Extractor fan not working. Shower permanently leaking, desperately in need of refurb/replacement. Wi-fi only worked within about 10 feet of reception - no signal at all in my guestroom. Paper thin walls - people in the next room could have been in my room. Evening meal was the lower end of average pub food. Breakfast was non-existent as no one turned up to cook or serve it. Reception deserted again in the morning, so I had to check out without paying, leaving message on business card, while another guest called his booking agent to try to raise the management. Seriously, there was not a single member of staff to be found anywhere between my coming downstairs at about 8 am and leaving at about 8.45, and no indication as to why they weren't there. One of the other guests I met waiting for breakfast also complained about their room: \"We've never experienced anything like it\", they said. Neither have I.

not a good place to stay.

Arrived at 5.30pm Room was not ready on arrival, had to wait an hour for this to be sorted, then still not been cleaned correctly, no staff around at breakfast, no breakfast available although it was paid for, no one on site at all in the morning, unable to check out as no one could be found. Other guests just left there keys at reception with business cards and contact details. Manager turned up only after linen delivery man got in touch with him.

Ok for the price

Staff are nice and helpful. Our room is on the first floor and there is no wifi in the room. Otherwise I would rate higher. Kitchen open till late so if you are not picky at least you have hot food after a big day. My husband and I liked the idea that room doors are not numbered but named after Shakespeare's works. Overall ok for the price.

Quiet country location close to town

Stayed 3 nights. Comfortable room, bathroom minus some basics such as towel rail and shelf for toiletries despite ample room. Little information provided about hotel facilities or that an evening meal not available on Sunday.

Good location, nice hotel and pub.

Located right next to Mary Arden's House and farm, so very easy to find. Plenty of parking, and even within a few hundred yards of Wilmcote station - so you can get here without a car.

Friendly reception, large and comfortable room, and large bathroom - with a bath.

Location was quiet - no problem getting a good night's sleep. A good alternative to staying in Stratford upon Avon, where hotel prices can be much higher.

Pub seemed fine, we only used it for a quick drink, but they do serve a variety of food.

Breakfast was fine - normal English breakfast plus the usual extras - cereal, toast, fruit, etc.

We'd happily come back to The Mary Arden Inn if we were staying in the Stratford area again.

The room itself was lovely and the fact that I had both front and back windows meant I could generate a through-draft which helped in the heatwave. They advertise free wifi--which they have, but ONLY in the bar. It would be much more useful if they had it in the rooms (which is generally what advertising free wifi means these days). And the breakfast room.

Despite their short-staffing, they were very good, even when the entire hotel came in for breakfast at once.

Disappointing Stay

On overnight business trip, definitely overpriced for what you get, it is a bit dated and run down, basically a village pub with rooms,Wi-Fi although advertised was non exisitent in bar or romms, I overheard some foriegn tourist commenting on this, they wee advised to go to the front door where it usually worked, cashing in on Shakespeare. Used this pace because my usual hotel was full, don't think I would go back or recommend it to anyone else.
