Casa Palopó was easily one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at! The staff were welcoming and helpful from the moment we arrived. They booked us tuktuks to travel around, and allowed us to preorder breakfast and take it early on the day we left. Each time we came back to our room, they had been in to tidy up and leave us a little gift! The hotel and grounds are gorgeous, and the views of Lake Atitlan are breathtaking. The hotel is a short walk from Santa Catarina Palopó, a beautiful Guatemalan town which felt authentic and friendly. We did find that it was easier to eat dinner at the hotel in the evenings, as it got dark very early and we did not want to walk back along the road from the town. It is very much a hideaway, perfect if you are looking for rest and escape. There are activities available at the hotel too, and a wonderful pool and jacuzzi at the villa in the grounds. The decor is truly beautiful, and everything is finished to an excellent standard. Thank you so much for a perfect stay.

We have stayed at the hotel -prepandemia- in several ocassions. This time we got hold of the only room option available in the newer building above the main hotel, problem was too many stairs, which make it dependable on shuttle runs to reach dining options within the hotel.... walking up the hill to our room is risky for anyone not in good shape/health....also there are no hand rails, hence posing addionatl risk of falling. I did like the excellent service from all the staff, always ready to help and assist ieven on nonhotel matters. The newer part, once solved the issue mentioned above should provide a good choice for staying in the future, is quite, nice pool and jaccuzzi and good spacious rooms.

First time visitor. Our room had a beautiful view. It was a very relaxing location. Everyone was beyond professional and accommodating. We did have an issue with our room AC unit which leaking water from a clogged drain line... they were prompt to address and gave us a remedy. We were there for an overnight stay otherwise I may have asked for another room. The weather was cooler and refreshing so the AC at that moment was not a big deal. Thank you to all the staff at Casa Palopo.

This is an outstanding property, One of the best that I have stayed in the world. The front desk staff, housekeeping staff, the sous chef, the wait staff, the turndown service staff, the staff that takes you to the hen farm, the views from their 2nd restaurant, beautifully decorated Kinnik - all possible because of their outstanding staff. Loved my stay here, comfortable and clean. I did get sick when I ate at the restaurant both times. Also the guy at the front desk that spoke English as well was rude. Whenever he would be assisting me, he would be helping others at the same time. Whenever I came to the front desk and he was helping someone else he didn’t even speak to me. When I checked out, he didn’t even say thank you or anything. At the price you pay for this hotel you expect the customer service to be on point. Besides him, it was a good stay.

The hotel restaurant is excellent. I was a bit disappointed with the steakhouse Kinik, down by the shore, so I recommend you stick with the main restaurant. I also took the private motor boat to the pueblos; although pricy, it was worth the convenience. The concierge gave me good and accurate recommendations

For our 1st anniversary we wanted to visit the beautiful Lake Atitlan in Guatemala & this hotel made this adventure feel over the top luxurious. While the hotel & views are hard to beat, the hotel team that worked every day to give us moments of delight throughout our stay, were the true unique component of this stay. From an easel/paint/canvas waiting for us in our room to paint the beautiful views, to the turn down service with a unique gift each time, but more than that was the friendly and helpful nature of all of the staff was incredible. They arranged a private boat driver for us to go to San Juan & San Marcos. It was definitely worth the elevated price to not be on a tight schedule & get to explore as much as we wanted & leave as soon as we wanted to make the most of our day. Skip going to San Marcos but DEFINITELY visit San Juan!! We also walked from Hotel Casa Palopo to the town of Santa Caterina which allowed us to explore the everyday lifestyle of the community. We also recommend going up to the infinity pool at Hotel Casa Palopo for the days you just want to relax & for sunsets! We did the traditional route of ground van transportation lined up by Hotel Casa Palopo, but when we learned about the hotel having two helipads, we found GuataFlights and HIGHLY recommend them for a much faster transportation to Antigua (10 min) or the GUA airport (25 min). Make sure to eat and lakeside restaurant, Kinnik. The BEST! Can't tell - I recommend you stay here. We will be back.

it is high up but close to a small town and transport is easy available - it has a magnificent absolutely stunning view - it is so special - waking up with the view of a huge vulcano i. the window, a big veranda with great views , a swimmingpool and hottie with great views, beautiful rooms and bathrooms . huge common areas -a restaurant and very friendly staff - it sextremely beautiful- we had one of the suites - the stunning view came with a small downside of 150 steps but we managed to never have to go up by always using the tiktuk when coming back from syrups and always eat in the room - teh entire menü is available in room - food in small town was much cheaper - prices at hotel are very high but they try to have fancy food - town restaurants were a very amazing alternative though - and

Absolutely love Casa Palopo and so glad we decided to stay here during our trip to Lake Atitlan!! The views are amazing and the service and kindness the staff showed us was outstanding. They staff went above and beyond to make sure our stay was comfortable and enjoyable. We had NO issues with communication or hot water in our rooms. So I'm really surprised by the other reviews left. The restaurant in the hotel was lovely and they were happy to accommodate to my food allergies with no problems!!! We found the location we'll worth the views of the lake and Volcanos. And easy walk to Satana Catarina, a beautiful local village. Easy Tuk tuk transport to get to Panajachel for more restaurants, shopping and transport by boat to other towns across the lake. I highly recommend this boutique hotel!!

Refreshing pools surrounded by curated cactus gardens, backed by the mountainous jungle and overlooking the teal Lake Atitlan. Kayaks and paddle boards are provided to make the most of the lake. The restaurant serves incredible cocktails and cuisine. The team is friendly, fun and very attentive. Avoid Casa Palopo: Guatemala is/was going through a political unrest situation with protesters blocking the roads. The US embassy advised anyone to stay clear or the road blocks/areas which also pertained to the roads to Late Atitlan.
We found out the day we got to Antigua about the unrest and that the roads to Lake Atitlan are closed. Having booked for the day after we got to Antigua, we contacted the hotel and after several hours they said that we won’t get there unless we take a helicopter which was out of the question (financially and safety wise). We talked to several people in Antigua and most of them were going to visit Lake Atitlan as well. ALL of them got refunded due to the circumstances, however Casa Palopo did not. They charged us the hotel room for 2 nights with no explanation. (We did book through Expedia and they contacted the hotel every day for 8 days and the hotel refused to give us the refund, although Expedia mentioned several times that considering the circumstances it should be not issue to cancel the reservation and get the refund). Obviously money is way more important for them than the safety of their guest. I highly suggest to stay clear of this hotel as unknown circumstances may arise and the hotel WILL NOT work with you not matter what. We spent several hours on the phone with Expedia and emailing Casa Palopo and at the end they decided not to refund our stay!!

We booked the Casa Palopó as part of a friend's 50th birthday celebration about 4-6 months prior to the arrival date. Unfortunately for us, the Guatemalan elections caused civil unrest and because of this, we ended up having to cancel last minute (about a week's notice). The hotel was incredibly difficult to get a hold of, and when we finally were able to get someone via a web-based chat, they assured us that we'd be able to get a refund for our cancellation. Mind you, this was all before our stay was scheduled. However, after the dates of our stay passed, they came back to us and refused to give us the refund of over $1,000. We will be pursuing a chargeback with our credit card company, and we will most certainly never be booking with this hotel (or any of their associate properties) ever again.

Exceptional attention to customer service
We were not able to make it to this hotel due to protests in Guatemela with road closures preventing travel. We can however attest to the fact that the hotel staff checked on us during our travel and kept in touch to make sure we did not get stuck in a road blockade. I asked them for a discount for the inconvenience. They did offer a complimentary dinner for the inconvenience which is almost laughable.

There is a lot of climbing up to the pool but it’s worth it.
The restaurant is in the main building where our room was, so it made it easy to have breakfast and dinner in our hotel, and why leave??
We had drinks by the crackling fire near a bar at night, and saw lightening cracking off in the distance on the other side of the lake.
If you need a quick trip, there is a heliport that will take you to and from Antigua or Guatemala City or other places.

Casa Palopo is a delightful get away. My room was at the tippy top of 150 steps, right near the upper pool. The room had spectacular views of the lake and amenities to match.

Nice staff and beautiful decorated. BUT it fails in comfort (the most important thing of a luxury hotel), the mattress is very hard and the pillows are just terrible and uncomfortable. Also they didn't charge me in us dollars and use a really high exchange rate, they are just interested in getting out more money from their guests. There are better places to stay in the same area.

Casa palopo is one of the best hotels ive stayed at. Ita absolutely beautiful, the grounds the rooms, the view, the staff. All of it! Only complaints i have is that it was somewhat difficult to get a hold of them before our stay. Sometimes it would be a week before i got an email reply. Also, the lack of info about transfers. We wanted to take a helicopter back to the city and didnt know that there was time restraints until we tried to book it, therefore making us have to take the 3 hr. Car ride. All in all absolutely beautiful through! Go do the tours of the city and ask for Renaldo!!
