This luxurious, colonial-style hotel, opened in 2005, is nestled harmoniously within the natural landscape of Playa Dorada, on the northern coast of the island. Located directly on the long, white sandy beach, it's just 3.

5 km from the lively center of Puerto Plata and a 25-minute drive from the capital's airport. The hotel offers 50 junior suites, each adorned with Caribbean decor and featuring a private bathroom with a shower and hairdryer, direct-dial telephone, internet access, satellite/cable TV, minibar, radio, in-room safe, individually controlled air conditioning, tea and coffee making facilities, and ironing equipment.

The hospitality of the employees very courteous, anticipating needs- i didnt give the full 5 stars because i feel the hotel should invest in additional staff to get drinks for us when on the beach- the 2 times i ordered drinks on the beach i could tell the waiter was doing his best but there where to many clients for one man; also bc it was only one guy it took almost an hour to get his attention- i would have just gotten my own drink but i was with my small daughter who wasnt trying to leave the area. clean depsite being bit by a spider in my room which i attribute to leaving the door open to allow the sea breeze in. i love that they come twice to clean and change towels no where else has done that before. The restaurant is small, so even with reservation you had to wait a lil which was okay for us to accommodate our seating due to high volume. food was great all around none of us got sick.

The hotel is absolutely gorgeous! The orchid garden is peaceful and sublime. The absolute best thing about the hotel is the staff. Everyone from check in, Jose and Claudia, to check out was fantastic. Housekeeping was excellent with superb attention to detail, the wait staff were patient and knowledgeable and the beach staff was accommodating and friendly. The night security guard even got cushions for us so we could stargaze in comfort! It was a wonderful visit for me and my elderly parents. Thank you! We will be back!!

This is far from a five-star experience. To begin on a positive note, the hotel grounds are fairly pleasant, with abundant greenery, and the staff is undeniably friendly. However, that is where the satisfaction ends.
The food was, without exaggeration, the worst I have encountered in the Dominican Republic. To be situated on a beach and to serve frozen, outdated seafood is simply unacceptable. The dishes failed to reflect the island's rich culture and cuisine in any meaningful way. We sampled the grilled salmon, chicken Marsala, seafood pasta, and a vegetarian dish that was overwhelmingly seasoned with garam masala to the point of being inedible. The falafel that was supposed to accompany the dish was replaced by mushy, paste-like balls. The seafood pasta was made with noticeably stale seafood and a strange, overly sweet tomato sauce. The chicken Marsala was dry and lacked any discernible flavor. These meals were all served at their restaurant, Lucia, which I would strongly advise against visiting.
One afternoon, we decided to try the nachos, only to be met with a repugnant odor emanating from the dish. It was difficult to tell whether the chicken or cheese had spoiled, but either way, it was inedible. We ended up eating outside the hotel for two nights, unable to tolerate the consistently poor food. Unfortunately, the local dining options nearby were no better.

The property is spectacular! It’s a very romantic location and loved the service. Everyone was very inviting and the employees all made sure you were taken care of. Beautiful property, well-maintained suites, meticulously maintained grounds, awesome staff at every turn, whether it was housekeeping, restaurant staff, front desk, bell hop, or anyone else you ran into on the grounds. Wide variety of food, which was also tasty, with the freshest vegetables and fruits. Never had to wait for a table and room service was always prompt. Surprisingly inexpensive for the quality. Pool and beach were never crowded and always someone to get you a towel, food or drink. It was the most relaxing and restful vacation we’ve taken. Shout out to all of the ladies who made sure our suite was clean and stocked every morning and every night. We always had an abundance of towels, washcloths and bottled water, and the rooms always smelled fresh and clean. And special shoutout to Felix who drove us around whenever we needed.

I have hesitated to write a review only because I don’t want this place to get ruined by hoards of people going there 😂. What a gem! I hadn’t been back to the Puerto Plata area in ages. We have been to many 5 star hotels in Punta Cana and this one has nothing to envy from those. The place is as beautiful as the pictures if not more. Service is 10/10. The food is AMAZING, literally not one bad or bland meal. The staff is genuinely friendly and attentive but never hovering over you- they let you be. We are actually returning to celebrate our birthdays there (my daughter and I). The only thing I will say is that this place is definitely for relaxing, I think we were the noisy ones there. It’d be nice if they had some type of entertainment at least on the weekends for people who want a more lively atmosphere, for me the pianist in the lobby during Sat night dinner was perfect- (great tunes!), but I know other people would maybe want something more interactive. The place is immaculate, super clean. Keep doing what you’re doing Casa Colonial and from the bottom of our hearts, a huge thank you to the entire staff- Odalis, Victoria (breakfast/pool), Luz from the bar, Lissette from concierge, Rafael, Nelson and all the waiters, Yeniz and all the cleaning ladies.

Stunning architecture and beautiful lobby/front desk area. Clean and gorgeous rooms with lots of space sand gorgeous view. The staff is super friendly and very professional, all very pleasant and helpful.
The spa is very well equipped and nice. The pool is for relaxing, not more than 4ft infinity style, the lounge area by the pool is soooo cute and there’s hot tubs with spectacular views! The hotel surroundings are simply breathtaking full of tropical greenery. The beach was y believe calm and warm.
The breakfast/lunch restaurant very accommodating and the food is superb. The staff there is also great.
The only thing my husband and I did not appreciate was the outrageously expensive menu at Lucia, the dinner restaurant. We had bottled water, one glass of wine, one salad, one shared appetizer and two fish dinners and the bill was nearly $260 without tip. Without a bottle of wine, even in the US, that was a bit much!
After the experience, we decided to drive around for dinner restaurants and found try gems.
Casa Colonial is overall a hotel everyone needs to experience when in Puerto Plata!

This was a lovely place, excellent staff and beautiful grounds! Clean beach. The beaches nearby were not as clean. The food was delicious but it was the same choices everyday, however there were plenty to choose from. The beach is very close so you can hear the waves. The drinks are delicious. The massage was amazing. Everyone is very kind and cordial. It’s quiet and peaceful. The only complaint was that the pool and hot tubs were under construction and we didn’t know this. They emailed us to tell us but it went to our spam so we never knew. There’s nothing on the website about this. We were highly disappointed about not having a pool or hot tub! With those are in working order, we would give 5 stars.

Where simplicity & nature meet. This was my 1st time at this property and I was accompanied by my 9 years-old daughter and 2 nieces.

In general, the hotel is purely for people looking for a luxurious peace and quiet environment.

The opening of a huge black gate, gives you full entrance to an enchanted mansion. The quietness/ peaceful ambiance coming from each corner of this property are pure heaven; the delicacy/simplicity emanating from every detail (e.i. rooms signaling embroidered in linen hand handkerchiefs) was so classic. One of the suites had my daughter's name \"Dalia\" embroidered - it was very sweet! ; the green and beautiful landscape as well as the multiple plants climbing and surrounding its columns/walls leaves you loving nature even more; the fresh/tasteful menu from its 2 restaurants were so delicious; The beach in general was good, no the best in DR, but good. Lastly, the people. The staffs were without a doubt the pure reflection of the hotel (both hotel/staffs are genuinely a good match!). The staffs - in its totality - portrayed such a peaceful/educated posture.

The already aforementioned are the reasons why I tryly enjoyed my first time at this property. I trust that what I wrote gives you a quick glimpse of what to expect if you are in seach of a resort purely for relaxation purpose. I feel that I don't even need to mention how modern and well-equipped rooms were, and the Spa (I booked an 80 minutes aromatic massage- heaven!).

The hotel itself is beautiful and the rooms are well maintained and spacious. Excellent value for the money we paid, especially compared to other 5 star hotels in the Caribbean. Their housekeeping was excellent and the grounds were well maintained. The food was also very good. The beach is very nice but they didn't have any outdoor activities. Our room was cool by day but the AC didn't work well at night. The concierges were very helpful and arranged our taxis, trip to town, and Covid tests very efficiently. They did recommend one restaurant, Casita Azul, that completely ripped us off (substituted items and charged us four times the original price, claimed they didn't have a wine list then charged us about four times the value of the wine, and told us a dish was 1090 pesos and charged 1900). We also saw online that we are not the only tourists to be overcharged by Casita Azul. Would recommend the Casa Colonial for a relaxing, romantic vacation.
