I loved my stay at Iberostar waves Costa Dorada, and I wish I could’ve stayed even a day longer, but it’s an experience I’ll never forget. The staff was so friendly and made sure we were taken care of at every step. They had games at all hours of the day, and the entertainment at night was fantastic. If you love the beach/pool, dancing, drinks and food available at all hours, good music, entertainment, and setting aside your cares for however long— this is the place for you!

My 12 year old daughter and I stayed for 4 nights and the staff was wonderful. They were always so helpful and nice. The pool area and activities were awesome. Staff made sure to include everyone and did such a great job. Sol and Henry were awesome! Henry one of the concierge booked all dinner rsvp without me even having to ask. The room was clean but dated. My lights flickered without stop and I found a water bug. There was a coffee maker but no creamer. The food was very mediocre even though there was a variety everything was just okay. Even the pizza. I went to the Japanese and Italian restaurant and same here… food was eghhhh ok. The entertainment was ok as well but I’ve seen better. The resort was kid friendly and inclusive. I would probably try a different resort when I return.

What I didn't like about the resort is that my stay was too short! :(
Everything else was exactly as expected, and the food was amazing. My only issue was that I couldn't make reservations at any of the restaurants that required them because they were always fully booked.
Other than that, the resort has everything you could want in an all-inclusive. The nighttime shows were the best I have ever experienced. I am definitely coming back to this resort soon!

Rooms are clean and beautiful - we stayed in 6215 this year, which is Oceanfront. This is our 2nd year at Iberostar Waves, Puerto Plata. There is a large selection of food options at the buffet. The pool is cooler in the morning; then we hit the ocean after lunch. We eat at the snack bar for lunch. This week in June seems to be the quietest time to be in the DR. You can try scuba in the pool for free; there are many activities all day long. Darts, Bocce, Bingo, water cardio, dance lessons, water basketball, archery, ping pong, volleyball in the pool or at the beach, shows in the evenings, kids club, large swimming pool until 7 pm.

They have filtered water available on site to minimize 1 time use plastic but they do NOT clean or sanitize the glass bottles they leave in your room for you to use.
Mine had a lime wedge in it from the previous guest...I requested a sanitized bottle (using google translate to leave a note in Spanish) 3 days in a row with no results. Took the dirty bottle to the front desk. Needed to find someone to converse with me in English then offered me a new PLASTIC bottle from the gift shop! Could not produce a sanitized bottle until I waited around for 25 minutes. This tells me they are NOT running these things through a sanitizing dishwasher then stacking them in a supply closet. They are just hoping the housekeepers rinse them out.

Also, the country's language is Spanish and at this resort you will do better if you at least try to use some Spanish. My sister knew zero Spanish and was routinely ignored at the pool bar. I had a whopping 400 days of Duolingo under my belt (so, yeah, not great) but they bartenders were more willing to serve me if I tried to order in Spanish.

Not the resort's fault, but there is a much more local clientele here than at the Punta Cana resorts and the guests were RUDE. Locals routinely cut in the line for omelets, and refused to move to single file when two groups were trying to pass on the narrow sidewalks until I harkened back to my basketball days and put all 250+ pounds of my girth into a pick a couple of times...

Food was great, pool was dirty most of the time and children allowed in the bar areas. Property needs maintenance and upgrades to rooms and facilities. Beach was perfect. Housekeeping staff need training as they loudly chatted by our room starting at 8:30am every morning. When we complained, we were told to tell them to be quiet, not my job to discipline their employees. We would not return.

Dear Management,

I am writing to formally express our deep disappointment regarding our recent stay at your hotel. Unfortunately, our experience was absolutely terrible and far below any acceptable hospitality standards.

The main and most serious issue was the condition of the ocean and beach area. The ocean was completely unswimmable — the water was muddy, had an unpleasant smell, and there were constant large waves. In addition, the beach itself was extremely dirty, with plastic bottles and trash everywhere. The overall condition was honestly disgusting and completely unacceptable for a resort destination.

Another major issue was the cleanliness throughout the hotel, especially in the dining areas. The food service conditions were unacceptable: plates, glasses, utensils, and other items frequently appeared dirty and had unpleasant odors. After eating at the buffet, we both suffered from diarrhea for two days and did not feel comfortable eating there again for the remainder of our stay.

This was one of the worst hotel experiences we have ever had. We are extremely dissatisfied and disappointed with the quality, cleanliness, and overall conditions provided. Unfortunately, after this experience, we would never consider returning to your hotel and cannot recommend it to others.

The hotel is very good, not the luxury type, but worth what is paid.
The restaurants were ok, do not expect much. The beach is really good, calm and relaxing, but not with super transparent water. The volleyball court on the beach is amazing, and my son enjoyed it every day. The shows were fun, but not that glamorous. The entertainment team was not professional, but were very nice guys.
Overall, it is a nice place to spend a week with the family, relaxing, enjoying the sun, the beach and having a good time.

We stayed at the ibeostar in Cancun and the difference is night and day. This one in puerto plata is not well kept. The pool was dirty, paint around the hotel chipping away , food was okay. No complaints about the staff, they were all friendly and polite. I just wish the facility was up to the same standards as the other locations. Cancun location there were shows and activities that we were made aware of and invited too. Im not sure if there were any here because I did not see any or hear of. The atmosphere was just different. All in all I would probably not attend this location again.

The resort and rooms were clean. I didn’t like that they didn’t offer water bottles, however, they did have water filter system where you have to refill your drinkable water daily.
The staff was friendly but some how always seem to get the restaurant reservations screwed up. I was here for 7 days and due to the reservation issues I didn’t get to eat at all 3 restaurants. The buffet was basic and towards the end of trip I was tired of the buffets food options. When trying to add a day pass they give you the run around, front desk says go to guest services and guest services says go to front desk. I will never return to this resort. There are so many better options out there for me to return.

Iberostar truly delivers a top-tier resort experience. My boyfriend and I stayed for his birthday, and from start to finish, everything exceeded our expectations. The staff were consistently professional, warm, and genuinely accommodating, creating a welcoming atmosphere that made it easy to relax and enjoy every moment.

Our room was spotless, with a perfectly comfortable bed and an ocean-view balcony that made each morning feel special. Waking up to that view alone was worth the trip. The food was equally impressive—both the buffet and the specialty restaurants offered exceptional quality and variety, making every meal something to look forward to and well worth the cost of our stay.

A special thank you to Lucy at the concierge desk, who went above and beyond to make our visit unforgettable. She provided thoughtful recommendations, handled our reservations seamlessly, and delivered truly top-notch service throughout. The birthday surprise she arranged—a banner on our door—was such a personal and memorable touch that meant a lot to both of us.
We stayed for four nights, and honestly, it still didn’t feel like enough. Iberostar set a high bar, and we’re already looking forward to our next visit.

Beautiful location and fun resort. There was a lot of pressure to listen to a sales pitch on becoming a member. This made me decide not to go back. The only way to book reservations was to talk to the concierge, so the app didn’t do much.
The off resort country was beautiful. The DR has beautiful culture and people

Food: as an all inclusive, food was good. Reservation for specialized restaurant was complicated since restaurante has very limited availability. We arrived on Momday and get reservation for Thursday. If you are going for a 3-4 days trip, you couldn’t visit all specialized restaurant. Tepanyaki and Mexican restaurant food and service was great. Italian was awful. All plates were bad and cold.
Rooms and hotels need a lot of update. Property is not mantian adequately. Specially the pool. Beds are not threat confortable and pillow are not good at all.
Personally: al the staff were great. Always smiling and eager to talk.

Could barely see the ocean. They put us on the ground floor right next to the snack bar and truck delivery for that food service. It was terrible.😳😩 Took longer to check in this time three different folks kept saying 15 more minutes 3 different times we finally went to the room and it was ready. So we got our luggage to room and never heard from front desk. Our TV had to be replaced after 3 times reported not working. Had to have AC reset and my daughter next door was using blow dryer and blew a breaker 🙈. Who knew you could only use bathroom outlets for that. They did respond quickly to calls. Oh worst of all being in that room we could not be comfortable sitting in balcony or getting dressed in the room as we also were at a common busy walk way for all to peer at us.

Located right on the beach with plenty of chairs and umbrellas throughout the resort. Lots of covered walkways for the tropical downpours. Site is beautiful. Staff are lovely and very helpful. It’s all but impossible to get a table at the on-site restaurants. The buffet is acceptable but not outstanding. However, staff were very helpful in recommending and obtaining reservation and transport for a local restaurant which was excellent (LaLola - on the beach). Room and bathroom were lovely, clean, and very comfortable. There’s a safe in the room for valuables.

Premises was very clean, staff were friendly multiple activities throughout the day to engage families. The drawback for me was the pool water was very cold and no hot jetted hot pool. Additionally, it was a challenge to obtain a dinner reservation always full, we ended eating most of our stay in the buffet. Additionally, people smoke everywhere. The resort can improve on this by making a smoking designated area specially because there’s children being exposed.

Room in good condition. They didn't allowed me to get into my room til 4pm 😒. Food in the restaurant was ok, better food in the buffet. It was annoying the insistence to buy the hotel membership and took a lot of time time for activities that we planned . Be prepared for that. Otherwise, staff very friendly and clean rooms 👌

Staff service & authentic Dominican food were the highlights of the stay at this resort. My housekeeper was polite and kept my room spotless. The two dudes who work the lobby bar at night delivered poor service. I consider Iberostar to be overpriced for what I paid to stay there.

For a resort that is almost 30 years old very expensive. The VIP section didn’t have its own pool. It’s own bathroom. And the beach was almost unusable and the VIP also didn’t have its own restaurant. But on the good side, the staff overcompensated for the resorts faults and they made my stay enjoyable.
