Staff was fantastic—welcoming from the moment you arrive, and you’re handed a drink right at check-in. Excursions were great; book with Wendy for a good deal. The pool was right across from my room and the beach was just a short walk away, which was very convenient.

The room was beautiful, but the A/C vents were extremely dusty and appeared not to have been cleaned in months. By day 4, I developed a runny nose and cough. The gym was okay, but I would’ve preferred 24-hour access and more space.

Food was hit or miss. The snack bar and the à la carte Mexican restaurant were great, but the other restaurants were only okay and we experienced food poisoning.

Important note: If you’re 21+ and don’t speak Spanish fluently, avoid the clubs. The DJ plays mostly Spanish music and staff gets annoyed when anything else is requested. Also, skip the disco lounge unless you’re okay with heavy cigar/hookah smells.

Good location and amazing staff, but cleanliness, food, and nightlife need improvement.

En general se pasa bien y es tranquilo. Los chicos que atienden en el buffet y rest son buenos sobre todo Luis muy atento y servicial. En la barra hay un empleado prepotente entiendo es un supervisor. Con respecto a las habitaciones necesitan remodelación el baño se tapaba la bañera y se reportó aun asi se continuó tapando. Hubo un día que no nos pusieron toallas y se pidieron en tres ocasiones y no llegaron. Se demoró. No nos pusieron frisas para arroparnos del frio, se tuvieron que pedir. La piscina debe tener calentador para invierno ya que el agua estaba muy fria. El baño de la piscina siempre estuvo mojado por gotera. Se entiende q por ser el baño de la piscina va a estar mojado pero, lo de la gotera y el charco no es aceptable. Entiendo que en los restaurantes deben haber mas empleados. Se demoraban mucho.

Where do I begin to express my delight at finding this beautiful resort at the suggestion of a friend the day before I arrived. I found the beautiful king size bed too hard for me, but I slept on the futon quite comfortably, and the housekeeping noticed and continued to make up that bed for me instead. The mediterránean and Brazilian dinners were excellent, and all meals were quite enjoyable. Staff were so friendly and very helpful. Even calling to check on me after I had arrived in my room to see if everything was all right. The decir is a little bit dated, but does not attract from the enjoyment of this lovely resort. It actually reminds me of a Grand Bahia Principe I stayed at last winter! I will definitely recommend Marien to my friends, and hopefully be back someday myself. Muchas gracias!

Everything amazing the cleanliness the rooms everything the only thing why I not going to give you guys five stars is because in the buffet area they have some kind of racist employees they never went to our table to ask us if we need something to drink and when other white pleople that were there after us we saw how they treat them and when we give the feedback to the manager in charge of the area he said that he have so many complaints about the same thing of Dominicans being discriminate ,he was all the time given us excuses but he never feel apologize anytime apart from this the stay was amazing.

The place was nice and the staff very friendly, except for the bathtub which wouldn't drain when we arrived and which they repaired but clogged again before we left. We had no other problems. The room was very nice and was always clean (although there was a foul smell around the building, apparently from a sewer). But other than that, we had a great time

This was a terrible experience. We arrived tired after driving over 2 hrs to get there. We have a 4-year-old and a 3-year-old. We paid for an ocean view, and the first room they assigned us was smelling terrible. It was very humid, and we complained because I was having trouble breathing due to my allergies. They then sent us to two other rooms, which were both in the same condition. The 3rd room also had electrical issues, and the lights kept turning off. At this point, I was willing to leave. We when back to the front desk and they finally decided to put us in an area with no humidity, (This was very upsetting because they know those rooms and due to my allergies they should have offer that from the get go, when we first complained about my breathing issues and not have us carrying our bags from room to room) after arriving in the room that finally had no humidity we realized that is was infested with mosquitoes. At this point, we were so tired, and my kids were done. My husband and I decided to try to kill as many as possible, and we counted 20 mosquitoes. Then we put the ceiling fan on high to try to keep them away.

We paid for the 3 nights, and we left after the second night because that morning, after the second night, the light (electricity) went out, and we couldn't even take a shower. We no longer felt that it was safe for us to keep our kids in this place.

All this, and I am not mentioning all the issues we had with the food.

Staff was courteous and very accommodating. Service was nice. Room was cleaned nicely but the property itselfneeds an upgrade. Condensation in vents required me to use bath matt toprevent from slipping. TV or telephone in room did not work and the wifi coverage was poor. Food was ok. It lacked variety.

If you want to sleep in bed as hard as bricks then this is the resort for you. That mattress and pillows are horrible. We tossed and turned all night. Once we entered the room the wifi was dead. The water was luke warm in the shower. We froze because the air would not regulate when we tried to change the temps. If you like cats, theres plenty on the property especially the restaurants. They're walking around all under your table. Yep we will not come back and don't recommend

The Marien Puerto Plata is a beautiful complex. The staff was friendly, but at the restaurants it took a long time to get served a beverage. The food was good, and although there are a few restaurants to choose from the food selection is very limited. The furniture in rooms at the hotel are outdated. The doors of the closet of the room I stood were sliding doors that didn’t slide anymore, they were stuck and the mirror of the closet door was rusted. We were charged $3 per day to be able to use the in room safe… I’ve never had a resort charge for that. One thing I did absolutely love about the resort was the pool area. It was beautiful. (The bartenders at the pool bar have to be a little more upbeat.). The entertainment was also good.

Im giving the hotel a 2 as they closed all the restaurants and only offered food from the buffet to save money and options were awful. If the were planning on closing the restaurant they should of at least offer some options from each of the restaurants at the buffet.
They moved buffet to pool area at night and we could even see the food on our plates.
Poor management. I won’t be returning.

Overall the staff was nice, but the upkeep of the rooms was dated , I stayed there for a week and my bathrooms was leaking they repaired it and it started leaking the following day, they switched my room and that bathroom was also leaking water from the other bathroom above it. The food there was okay, if you didn’t like the restaurant you had the buffet restaurant to go to. Overall I would give this hotel a 4 star rating.

The check-in was really fast, and the food was good. The service at the buffet was okay; you had to wait a lot to be served. The bed in the double room was too small. They have to specify what kind of bed they have in certain rooms. Finally, the Wi-Fi is really bad; it just works in the lobby. Great hotel; just need to improve.

Bad expirience with costumer service

We have a terrible time proceeding with the payment with 3 hours of struggle and harassment from the personnel. They have us a link to process the payment and we procedes to do so. After we showed then the payment approval from the bank, they kept on saying they it was denied. So, they insísted to cancel the reservation and make a new one because my bank dinied the payment and it was not true. In other words they wanted to charge us more money. I sent some family local to make a payment in a local bank were they provided me with that information. In other Words, we felt hartases and we faced such a burden

Owner needed to check
On property cleaning service is none existent. Bathrooms have not been regularly cleaned. I was unable to use the second room due to sheets not being cleaned so we stayed in one room. I will reach out to the owner In The hopes they will replace you ever is maintaining the property I’m not asking for a refund or discount cause I should of first check the bed sheets and bathrooms before it was too late to make changes.
