This hostel is AMAZING! The property is super well-maintained and modern. Everything is squeaky clean and it smells great. The staff are incredibly warm and inviting from the minute you step in the door. I could not recommend this place enough if you want great value for your money. The room was very clean and beds were comfortable. We had a sink and shower in our room. The shared toilets were always spotless. Location was very walkable and close to nightlife. We will definitely stay here again when we return to Porto!

Don’t judge a book by its cover. The street appeal is unappealing. The interior and rooms are period (blue and white tiles on the walls, original wood flooring) and are well maintained and upgraded. The owners did a beautiful restoration by adding modern amenities but kept the old world charm.

The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. All common areas as well the room were spotless and clean.

The location is 5 star. Easy walking access to the airport metro and in the old section of Porto. Highly recommend this property.

This is an old hotel in a very old neighbourhood. The staff are friendly and polite. It’s cheap but not nasty. Lots of good neighbourhood bars and restaurants within a minute or two. This is more a travellers hotel than a tourists hotel; there is no bar or swimming pool but it is safe and clean.

Residencial Portuguesa is good if all you want is basic en suite accommodation at a very reasonable rate (i.e. a bed, a toilet and shower) within walking distance of the old town centre (it is only about 5 minutes’ walk from the Clerigos Tower). The bed was comfortable enough, and the bathroom - although extremely small - was (like the room) clean and had a good shower with plenty of hot water.
But do not book this place if you want any 'luxury' or a quiet night. Examples of the basic facilities were: there was no heating or air-con, the 'free toiletries' were one small bar of soap and 2 sachets of shampoo (for 3 nights), I had no room service, the TV screen was smaller than an A4 piece of paper, there was only one socket available in the bedroom (which was loose!), there was no wifi, and there were no blackout drapes/curtains (as described in the listed facilities).
The main problem I had with the room was with the noise from the local area (I stayed at the weekend so maybe it's quieter in the week?).
Last point: I wish that you were given a key to the outside door instead of having to ring the bell to be let in every time you returned to the place. (Having said that, there was never any delay waiting to be let in, and they were also very helpful in letting me leave my bag for a few hours longer after checking out).

Don't be fooled by the pictures.

The people spoke NO English. They did not try to assist us in any way. Wifi only in 'lounge' area, but no privacy as someone is always watching TV. Wifi is non existent in room. Shower cubicle in the room was tiny!!

Overall a bad experience. The room needs heating, is absolutely freezing in the evening. Old bilding and unfortunately very noisy, you can hear people on the street as well as seagulls in the morning. You have to buzz in everytime you want to get inside at reception and you can't hang shower head to name a couple of examples. You get what you pay for, is definitively not luxury but is not comfortable at all. The hosts were nice but the accommodation needs improvements

It’s an old building don’t expect luxury but it’s a definite authentic Portuguese experience . generally quiet but occasionally you can hear drunken partiers outside. Ok older hotel if on a budget.

It is run by a nice older couple who checked us in although they couldn't find our reservation. At check out they explained that they thought my reservation was a no show and charged my credit card. So they gave me the cash back of what I paid at check in.
There is no elevator or a/c. Room and beds were fine. Bathroom looked rough.
Was able to walk to everything we wanted to see in Porto.

internet only at the lobby. reserved different room. room door broken. no elevator. the worst thing was that i booked a rooom with private bathroom with a bidet but i used shared bathroom. they said i booked cheaper one but my itinerary says i have a bidet in my room. if it was their mistake, they were supposed to give me a right room or not to ask pay more money.

The room was very clean and located at the center of Porto which for me are two very important things.

Our stay was in November and it was very very cold in the room . I slept with 4 sweaters and a tuque . There was no heaters in the room but lots of nice heavy blankets which didn't see mm enough at that time .
The staff didn't speak English but they were all very friendly , kind and helpful

I believe we were really close to some good nightlife which means there was a lot of people on the street having fun and we could hear them very well

Overall , it was clean and affordable but if you are visiting in November I would bring lots of clothes :)

A Place to Lay Your Head

Stayed three nights. Room was good size although a bit musty even with the window open. I nearly broke my fingers trying to close the window as it weighs a ton and there are no springs. Run by an older couple who only speak Portuguese. This guest house is in need of TLC, although the bathroom seemed to be somewhat updated. There is no housekeeping service even though I stayed for three nights. Neighborhood is a bit gritty, but seems safe. There are lots of cafes, bars and restaurants in the immediate area, although at night it is relatively quiet - good for sleeping. Close to all of Porto's main sights and a 3 minute walk to the Trindade metro.

It is a old pension located near the city center (10 min walking). It is perfect if you need a cheap place to sleep while waiting for the bus to catch a cheap ryanair flight.

The room was very simple, but clean. The staff is very kind and friendly. The bad things are poor or inexistent wifi in the rooms and some noise from the streets.

You get what you pay for!

If you are looking for luxury this place is not for you. For our needs it was perfect. We needed a place within easy walking distance to the Metro station. It was clean and quiet with minimal services. Easy to walk to the river area and other historical sites in town. Many restaurants nearby. The price was only 29 Euros which we felt was a very good deal.

We were able to check in about 2 hours early which was really helpful and the Gentleman at the desk was so unbelievably nice and helpful. He helped us locate parking which was so appreciated because it's really difficult to find long term free parking.
The room was nice, small and quite clean. Our only problems was that the bed was not very comfortable and the room/bathroom were just a little too small. Our luggage occupied what little floor space was available. Overall though it was a nice place to stay with a great location near the center of town, which does mean it was a little noisy at night, you really get what you pay though and I'd gladly stay again

We wanted a cheap, clean bed for a few nights and this was it.
Unfortunately the bed was very creaky. The window did not close properly and people stood outside to talk all night on a Friday night.
The shower was OK but there was no 'knee room' to sit on the loo.

The location was good, it was very cheap. It was very noisy at night, because a few pubs were open late in the street, we could also hear a door bell from the reception, which was rather annoying. My father and I had an excellent stay at Residencial Portuguesa. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and, even though we don't speak Portuguese, we were still able to communicate in Spanish and English. They were very friendly and gave us great restaurant recommendations and other tips. The hotel is located in a quiet, fairly residential part of Porto, but it is very close to the city centre. We were able to get around on foot and really experience the city. We felt very comfortable at the Residencial Portuguesa and would recommend it to anyone trying to visit Porto on a budget!

What you pay is what you get

The location of the hotel is good and so is the customer service. Also, the rooms are cleaned daily. On the other hand, the hotel is quite run-down: our room had some broken window panes, for example (they were quickly replaced after I mentioned this, though). The noise from the street was therefore quite distracting. Luckily the nights were still quite warm so we didn't freeze, as there is no heating... ;-) Overall, it's still good value for the money.

This hotel is fairly well situated. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the rooms are cleaned daily. The building is quite run down overall, and some things in the rooms are broken, such as lights and window coverings. The bathroom was particularly cramped and in a bad state of repair. The mattress was thin and very uncomfortable. Choose this hotel if you want a rock bottom price and are willing to sacrifice quality

Staff were Portuguese without much English but were particularly nice, especially the Night Porter. I had a nice room, en-suite with balcony looking down to a small traditional Porto lane, a few bars and cafes were just round the corner. Hotel is located a small walk from the city centre, perhaps 5 minutes. It was simple accommodation but what I wanted.

We stayed there for one night only. The hotel appears to be in the process of upgrading; the bathroom was small, but very clean and modern. The location was close to the square and the metro; but one block the other way was a bit run down. The room was quite dark with only one small wall lgiht - the bedside table lamp had no receptacle.

The location is really good, close to the portobello markt place and in area full with bars and night life possibilities. 10 min walk from Trindade station.

Seules les serviettes de toilettes étaient changées ; les armoires ne ferment pas donc les propriétaires ont mis un vieux chouchou à cheveu pour fermer ; l'interieur des tiroirs de la commode avec des vieux papiers déchirés ! le wifi ne fonctionne pas ; une lampe sur deux fonctionnaient etc etc

Excelente localização. O quarto tinha algumas carências mito simples e baratas para resolver. Muito barulho na rua de madrugada, em função dos bares no entorno.
Para entrar no prédio era sempre necessário bater à porta. Uma vez bati muito e só consegui entrar porque alguém estava saindo.

Exactamente o que precisámos no fim do dia

Fomos bem recebidas desde o início, sempre de sorriso na cara! Chegámos antes das 14h e deixaram-nos fazer logo o check-in, o quarto era exatamente como na forografia. A pensão cheirava a limpo e o quarto estava assim mesmo, tal como a wc partilhada. O chuveiro privativo funcionava em plenas condições. As camas não são do mais confortável, mas para quem passa o dia a conhecer a cidade a pé e só quer um sítio onde se deitar ao final do dia, chegou perfeitamente. A localização é óptima, apesar de perto da zona noturna, sentimos-nos seguras e o cansaço era tanto que o possível barulho que houvesse na rua passava-nos bem ao lado. A relação qualidade preço é a certa! Fomos com as expectativas do que líamos no geral dos comentários e não saímos defraudadas.
Para quem quer passear o dia todo, a pensão residêncial tem tudo o que se precisa: cama e wc.

Elektrības rozetes arī tikai divas istabā, viena televizoram, otra naktslampai. Sadalītājs noteikti noderēs telefonu uzlādei. WIFI reāli darbojas tikai pirmajā stāvā. É uma pensão, imóvel muito antigo, precisando de vários reparos, banheiro compartilhado e na apresentação do hotel para reserva não consta esse problema, dentro do quarto tem uma ducha e um lavabo, bem estranho. Localização é excelente, mas não recomendo

Достался номер с очень старой мебелью, как только сели на кровать она сломалась (отвалилась ножка). Так как все остальные номера были заняты, то хозяйка ничего другого не придумала как положить под кровать старый процессор от компьютера в качестве укрепления)) Но так как хозяйка оказалась очень милой женщиной в годах, то вся эта ситуация на общее настроение не повлияла. Для одной ночи этот отель вполне подходит, учитывая его отличное месторасположение.

PRO: l'albergo era vicino al centro e ci è capitata una camera ai piani bassi (qui di non abbiamo fatto molte scale) e molto spaziosa.

CONTRO: non c'era il condizionatore/ventilatore e quindi dovevi tenere le finestre aperte, ma da quest'ultime entrava troppo rumore di musica e chiacchiericcio, sebbene l'hotel non sia propriamente nella zona dei bar. Inoltre, la tavoletta del wc era rotta.

Cama ruidosa

Se echa en falta aire acondicionado o ventilador, ya que de otro modo es imposible conciliar el sueño con las ventanas abiertas por el ruido.
La cama bastante incómoda y muy ruidosa .

Pensione pulita, accogliente e centralissima. Personale gentilissimo. La camera semplice ma pulita. La pensione si trova a pochi passi da Ribeira, il quartiere storico di Porto. Rapporto qualità - prezzo eccellente. La consiglio vivamente.
