Just awful. Avoid!

I dont know how this is considered a 3 star hotel. The 'bathroom' was a poorly walled of corner of the room. The beds were the worst I've ever slept on. You could feel the springs and overall, they were very hard. The room reeked of mildew. Because if the bathroom situation there was very little room around the bed. The lighting was awkward. Because the 'bathroom' was in the room with a partial sliding glass door, anyone getting up to use it in the night blasted the other person with very bright lights. The pillows were lumpy. The linens were dingy. They should have spent less on weird decor and more on making the rooms decent.

This hotel is almost like staying in a museum with great memorabilia on display everywhere. The room was a little outdated but very comfortable with good AC. The staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was reasonably priced and very good. It was a bit of a walk to the river area but we didn’t mind. We enjoyed our stay

This was BY FAR the coolest hotel I’ve ever stayed in. The staff was EXCELLENT. The location is a block from the main tourist area. The amenities were OUTSTANDING. And the rooftop bar was the best way to end a long day of being a tourist. I would highly recommend this hotel and, hopefully, would book a room there again. Gosh, what a great place!

Single was not in the hallway, but in the stairwell and did not get very good wifi. I had to bring my laptop up next to the door to get an ok signal, but it still kept disconnecting. While it was amusingly decorated hotel overall, it feels like a dated, budget-level hotel.

Safe, comfortable stay in central Porto!

The good: super centrally located, friendly receptionist, clean family room with comfy beds, great shower, and reliable WiFi.

The (not so) bad: Average (free but limited) breakfast menu, paid parking (not a surprise but 15e/day is a little on the higher side), no on-site restaurant (but plenty around the hotel), and a closed terrace bar.

The ugly? Nada.....

All in all, a safe, friendly stay without luxuries in a central location.

It was an interesting hotel with all these memorabilias as decor. The staff was helpful and pleasant. The breakfast was fine as European mostly eat pastries, cold cuts and cheese.

The location was perfect. You can walk to all the major sites.

Quirky hotel

A hotel is in a great location. The staff were extremely helpful. The bedroom was in need of an update and the continental breakfast was adequate. Overall very good value for money. There was a lot of building work going on but as we were out most of the day, it didn’t really affect us. We found all the memorabilia quite fascinating.

Hotel is in a good location. The walk down to the riverside is a little hilly. Service and checking really good. We arrived early and they looked after our bags and when we came back to check in the bags were already in our room. The theme of the hotel is interesting and a little unusual. The rooms are a little tired. Breakfast was good although space can become a problem if it rains and you cant use the outside terrace. Some construction work going on next door.

The hotel is conveniently located in the center, close to the metro station and the shopping district. The staff were friendly. The room i had was way smaller than expected. The walls are not soundproof, guess it’s understandble since it is not a modern hotel. I managed to make my stay a pleasant one nonetheless.

Not amazing!

It was not amazing! Even though the price was reasonable, I would not recommend the hotel. There is a building under construction next door and noise until 6 pm.
Breakfast was minimal, room was so small that I could hardly navigate between wall and bed. Spend a little more and I think you would be happier.

Could have been a great trip

We had a sm room but more then adequate as the room was clean and the black mold in the shower was taken care of promptly which we greatly appreciated. Breakfast was great, the staff we dealt with were friendly and helpful. Location was excellent. Our stay would have been rated higher but we were disappointed in how our friends were treated after jewellery was stolen from their room. Since the keys go to the desk every time we leave and we know the doors were locked leaving and returning we feel the hotel should have accepted some responsibility. When we left we were shown a small sign that said the hotel was not responsibil for anything left in the room and that there was a safe in the office. No information in our room or when we arrived. The room was not broken into so who was in the room
Our friends know they should have taken these things with them but only the staff and cleaners had access .
No one even said sorry, or offered any apology.
We were there 4 nights

Lots of noise during the day from new building next door. When staying for four nights, I think the hotel should make it a point to give us a good room. I measured the space between the bed and the wall and it was 30 cm! I can’t remember the last time we were given a hotel room with only a double bed! Partly my fault, I should have insisted on a larger room. Linens were marginal, pillows were terrible and drapes need replacing. No complaints about the bathroom! Location of hotel is great.

Vintage / retro hotel full of surprises

A great hotel with Art Deco style and a collection of memorabilia. Room was v clean, good size and staff were v friendly. Buffet breakfast was good, but no hot food. Good location just a short walk down hill to the river. Only issue was the bed was sqweaky we you moved, but still comfortable. Would stay again

I had booked a suite , but was allocated a room. I complained immediately and we were changed to a suite. The breakfast room was crowded and the selection was limited, no hot food. the reception staff were helpful and enjoyed a laugh and a joke. They were well informed, and able to recommend and direct us to restaurants and places of interest. Overall a good place to stay.

This is a nice, reasonably priced place to stay

From the outside and in the reception area, it looks a little gritty and worn, but the rooms themselves were very nice. The bathroom was spacious and modern and the main room very comfortable.

The staff were great. They were friendly and helpful -- especially in helping me retrieve my lost cell phone. We were very comfortable there and would gladly stay again if we return to Porto.

Very helpful staff tried hard to help us

Room was depressing, very high small Windows in a narrow corner made us feel in jail. Had little natural light. Got changed next day for next door room with bug window. Unfortunately bed was not so comfortable. Breakfast reasonable. Decir retro in hotel was fascinating. Loved it. Staff spoke perfect English and very helpful.

The hotel is close to public trains and access to the Duoro River. Many fine nearby choices for dinner. Interesting small retail in local area. Watch for all the lovely churches within a five minute walk of the hotel.

Outrageously Noisy

I asked for a quiet room as my only request. I was put next to elevator- accross from stairs with no carpet. I could here people coming in until 2 AM. Walls are thin. I could hear snoring in next room. At 3 AM homeless person camping across street right outside my window started screaming and yelling for 2 hours! I was planning on staying several days. I checked out as early as I could after being awake all night.

Satisfactory. Like friendly atmosphere and hotel staffs kindly welcome. Good feature on Room. Room is a little small but it is ok for one person accomodation. Nice Breakfast with many bread choices, but no eggs. Coffees and Orange juice are there. It's a bit far away from Sao Bento station with a big suitcase... At night it's noisy with young crowds running around or drinking on st. I think the neighborhood is safe. If you could use Metro to get around the city, station is quite near so it is convienient. You may like Porto city if you like to learn portugese history. Local foods are good and tasty. Portugese people are mostly nice and kind. Be aware of slippery slopes covered with smooth surface stone. (Slipped once w.sneakers.)

Centrally located hotel.

The hotel was conveniently situated. The cost of the stay was reasonable relative to the facilities provided. My one criticism would be the small size of the bath: I could barely stretch my legs! Was that because of a local plumbing issue i.e. the baths had to be that small size? Anyway apart from that the room was comfortable & the breakfast filling.
I was certainly impressed with the offbeat, quirky decor of the hotel e.g a fridge with books, an old cash register & scales, not forgetting a toy car & books in foreign languages scattered about together with postcards from different countries. It was certainly original & imaginative!

The hotel is centrally located. If you have a particular penchant for Art Deco then this might be right up your street. The hotel is basic, no frills. The room I stayed in as a single traveller was located overlooking bars and restaurants, traffic and was extremely noisey so no sleep for me over 3 days! The rooms also had a strange smell and the position of the bathroom in front of my bed just did not work for me.

Don't judge a book by it's cover

The hotel is in the centre of Porto, is easy to find, just 5 minutes walk from the metro. At first glance you may get the impression that it is a bit dated but step inside and your senses are awoken with a lovely fragrance that follows you as you walk through the foyer. At the end of the foyer the magnificent Art Deco interior is a sight to see. Climbing the grand circular stair case with it's broad landings you are treated to examples of a distant age. The standard of accommodation is good and the rooms are spotless.

The staff are extremely welcoming, helpful and kind.

We were not given the room we booked which was disappointing as we had booked a superior double room, but they had none . The room did not have any coffee or tea making facilities. The bed was comfy and the room ok clean and sufficient. The hotel was querky, staff friendly, breakfast fine open from 7-30- 10-30 location excellent enjoyed our stay here.

Central location - good value

The hotel lies relatively near to two Metro stations in a fairly central position. Our large room faced the rear of the hotel, which meant no view but, more importantly for us, it was quiet. The bedroom and adjoining bathroom were unusually large, nicely decorated and clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast choice was limited and rather uninspiring but OK for a few days. We liked the quirky collection of 1950s and 1960s memorabilia dotted around.

The hotel is quirky but pleasant and the rooms are of a good size. The bathroom was very new and bright. Breakfast is an ample cold buffet although a bit carbohydrate loaded. Service at the hotel is generally fine, but apparently if you want a drink at the bar you have to contact reception. A notice to that effect would be useful. The location of the hotel is excellent, right in the centre of town, just off the main street and everything is within walking distance. Overall good value for money.

Adequate hotel BUT...the room was spacious, dimly lit, smelly (despite lots of airing), it took 3 people 3 attempts to get my shower to function, staff entered 3 times in my 3 day stay despite requests for privacy and no housekeeping, limited breakfast. Furnishings and hardware are all cheap. The whole hotel is poorly lit so it looks rather dingy. And it has a very extensive range of 60's memorobilia plonked around the place. Usually I would think this touch would make it quirky and charming, but it just looked strangely out of place. For not much more you can have a beautiful hotel by the river. Can't recommend this one

Delightful,rather kooky hotel, well located and with a very helpful staff. The only thing to be aware of is the size of the rooms with a terrace. As there was no place to even lay a suitcase down, we asked for a larger room and happily gave up a terrace for more space.

A few days in porto

The smallest hotel bedroom ever but it did have a decent sized terrace, up on the 6th floor. Breakfast was limited in choice with nothing hot and not even a hard boiled egg. Nice guy on reception very willing to help, handy for direct light rail trip direct to airport. About 15 mins walk downhill to the riverfront.

The hotel is well located. The room is fine. No noise from outside due to double windows. Breakfast is satisfactory. Just wished they had a light curtain on the windows. The room and bathroom face directly into other buildings and there are no curtains, except for a black out curtain in the room. You either close the windows and turn the light on( not very bright) or you leave them open and have absolutely no privacy in your room and bathroom.

Location central. Room tiny and expensive. No door into toilet which is unacceptable. Open onto terrace which was very insecure as it was open to bar area and other rooms.I was told on arrival that there was fruit and chocolates provided by hotel as welcome gift. It was not provided and on asking about it , was told that my friend had paid slightly more and therefore I did not recieve welcome package.Breakfast was chaotic, we had to set our own tables. no eggs or hot food or freshly cut fruit provided. However there was tinned fruit and cake!

Unique city hotel with good location

This hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of the historic Ribeira district. It has some unique decorations and is definitely a \"city\" hotel (no room to park, you have to park in a garage down the street). Out of all the places we stayed on our honeymoon, this was the only place that actually acknowledged it and fulfilled our special requests. They gave us a room on the top floor that has access to the rooftop patio, which was really nice. You won't have access to the whole thing if you don't have a room on the top floor. Overall, it was affordable, in a good location and I would recommend it.

Fairly centrally located hotel. Extremely helpful & friendly staff, plus interesting displays of mid-century household history. Built during the war & housed the textile union offices, originally. Lovely building & kept very well - clean & shiny! We stayed in 404, which has a mini-lobby between the bedroom & bathroom & lovely wood parquet floors.

Good value and amazing decor

This hotel is some what of a hidden gem. The owner has created a museum of art decor with crazy things on each floor (bumper cars, old petrol pumps and the list goes on). The hotel is very clean and although it's meant to look old fashioned, the bathrooms are modern which is a big tick from me. This is now my hotel of choice when visiting Porto for business. The receptionist was very helpful as well.

Great location, late bar round the corner with outside music. The hotel is full of interesring museum pieces from the 1950s and 60s. We received a free upgrade to a king sixe suite. Huge comfortable bed and enormous room. Hotel great but some of the decor and furniture is a bit tired looking. Brekfast basic but good enough. Overall a great value hotel with very friendly staff. I would stay here again.

One of the Best of European Hotels

We had a great room on the top floor with a balcony and even a sitting area separate from the bedroom. This was one of the better stays for my wife and I in Europe in the 30 or more trips we have made. Porto is a charming city and worth a trip and the Pão de Açúcar Hotel was great - my wife thought the \"Man-cave\" waiting room near the lobby was a little much but I thought it was a nice touch. This Hotel has character and charm while maintaining a very European feel as it is located in an old building which is convenient to the city center.

It's close to the metro & in centre of city

We stayed twice - 9th Oct & 15th Oct. 1st time, we booked 2 nights prior to visit, 15th - we booked a month before& still couldn't get a room with twin beds! All Staff were very pleasant&helpful - hotel was well kept, with many antiques displayed which gave it a quirky but homely feel.
Perhaps breakfast could be optional as we paid for ours but unfortunately, had to leave for our flight early, so missed out, without any reduction offered.

The hotel is decorated in a really unique and cool way. Location was good, too, and it was just a 10 minute walk down the hill to the main restaurant/bar area. The room was nothing special, but quite comfortable and clean. The breakfast was a real highlight, though, with a large terrace for eating outdoors.

As much as i loved Porto i was satisfied with the hotel
The location and price makes it a perfect choice
They have a good breakfast at the 6 th floor on a a balcony.

Very Tired

40 degrees heat \"NO Aircon\"

I booked a room with a Terrace and Air con, the trip was to celebrate my Wife's Birthday and our Anniversary, the reviews looked favourable, but it all went wrong as soon as we got there, \"I'm sorry Sir but we have double booked your room, but we can offer you a suite at no extra cost\", I asked \"does it have a terrace or Balcony\" ? , \"No we are sorry it does not\", it was just a very large room with nothing special except old tired furniture, we stayed in it for one night as there was a bar directly below our room with a music licence until 4 a.m. and we had no sleep it was blasting out very load live music, we then asked for a change of room, they told us we could have a room with a terrace but no Air con, as it was away from the Bar we took it, we asked \"when would the Air con be fixed\" and they told us later that day, they lied, we spent 3 nights trying to sleep as it was so hot we had to sleep on top of the bed sweating like pigs, so three more nights with no sleep, we came back after our break more stressed than before we went. The Hotel staff were very nice apart from the lies.

Good weekend B&B

Staff friendly and efficient. breakfast good - especially if you like Portuguese pastries. The retro sixties thing is slightly bizarre, if intriguing! I had smaller room at end of corridor which was OK for me, but would be difficult for a couple I think. Most the other rooms are bigger I think. But v clean. A good weekend B&B in a great location, in a ery interesting city.

Good, central hotel for exploring Porto

There is a small reception space and an interesting lounge on the ground floor. Rooms are on floors 3-6, with offices and a medical practice in between. There are nice displays of 50s technology in the lounge and corridors and a lovely central spiral staircase. The staff were all excellent. Our room was (almost - see below) wonderful: we'd opted for a 'superior room' and it was very spacious, with sofa and armchairs and its own hallway. We were right at the end of the corridor and the WiFi signal didn't quite reach that far but it was fine in more central areas. The breakfast room on the 6th floor has a nice balcony with rooftop views where it's good to sit in nice weather; breakfast itself was not the most varied, but perfectly adequate. Two problems: 1) the bed was big and firm (good) but the mattress springs tended to dig into ribs and hips; 2) on one night (out of seven), despite the well-fitting and double-glazed windows, sleep was disrupted by noise from a nearby nightspot - our room faced the street. Overall, though, we were very pleased.

Great character in central location for travellers

This hotel was outstanding value for money, with a slightly retro feel, a gorgeous central spiral staircase and in close proximity to the main train station, Sao Bento.

Fun in Porto

Great location. Great price for what you get. It was clean, staff were helpful and friendly. It was an older place reflecting its age but clean. Worked for me ... I'm interested in traveling and seeing new not spending time in hotels so a comfortable night's sleep in a clean, somewhat cramped place is good enough for me. Did not supply parking ... had to get it from a public car garage less than 1 block away. I'd stay there again.

Very good service from Reception.

Very good service from Reception. Good atmosphere. Close to Metro, so easy to get there by public transport - also from Airport. Comfortable walking distance to old centre and the river, to grand station Sao Bento, and to Trinidade Metro \"hub\" as well.
