Some staff were amazing. Some staff need training in customer service. Rooms are super small and smaller than advertised. I was in 314 and it is much smaller than advertised. It can’t be more than 140 sq ft with advertised just under 200 sq ft.
Breakfast was so so. Not worth €15 maybe €8-9 maximum.

The check in process was great.
Room was MUCH smaller than advertised (at least by 30-40 sq ft). Bathroom super tight (room 314). Hotel was clean overall. Basic.
Has an issue night 2 that I was forced to book a second room - which I get. But how it was done was rude / disrespectful. There was no level of professionalism on that issue faced.

Traveled solo.
The room (single bed) was very comfortable and clean. Breakfast was varied (eggs, bacon, pastries, cereal, bread, yogurts, coffee, tea, juices). The staff was quite helpful.
It's at a walkable distance from lots of tourist spots and there are a lot of great restaurants and bars nearby. Great and safe area in general.

Nice old building and room was decent size with good bathroom. However beds were not comfortable (thin foam mattresses) and room was on noisy street where Saturday night drunks kept shouting until 6am. Breakfast was OK but a bit tired. Staff were helpful.

Hotel is gorgeous! Breakie is good and the room a though small but pretty ok! Cons: too noisy at nite. I can’t really slp on Saturday night where people are returning after party at wee hours! The noise lasted through 4am!! Walls are thin. I can hear neighboring rooms returning as well.

Staff was great. The room was adequate but hot. We had to leave the patio door open to get the room cool enough to sleep. The location was good, too. We had a drunk man moaning in the hallway and stumbling around. The front desk said there was nothing they could do because he was heading to his room. It was 3 am in the morning and not a great way to be awakened.Even with a nice breakfast and clean accommodation, I am not sure I would choose this hotel again.

Staff at reception were very rude and unhelpful. Their bar/restaurant was unattended the whole 7 days. Rooms were to be cleaned daily. Mine was cleaned 3 times in 7 days but very basic. Sheets or linen was unchanged. Towels 3 times. I constantly asked for toilet paper as they didn’t replace. In 7 days the tea cups were not replaced or clean and no replacement of tea/coffee /sugar or any water. It was disgusting service. I would not recommend this hotel to my worst enemy. Should be a one star hotel. Definitely not 4 star. Worst hotel I stayed in and I travel twice a year for last 50 years. Disgusting g service.

Beware of the new Hotel Paris.

Ok, first the young man who checked us in was very great, better than the hotel deserved.
The workmanship that did the recent remodel was atrocious especially the plumbing. We tried to stay in the most expensive room 017 and it stank to high hell from sewer gas and the bed was atrocious with its plastic mattress cover and broken mattress.the room we moved to was much better but sloppy workmanship and the floors were so uneven and carried sounds from above down to the room below. The air conditioning was controlled by the hotel and most kept off while we couldn’t open the windows because of nasty cooking smells. Must have been a grand hotel once but the new owners trashed it squeezing in more rooms and keeping costs down. Give your guest sheets on the there beds and buy some real beds for Christ sake.

Stopped twice at hotel as had break at Braga. First room 402 was good and if only this one good reviews. Room 419 poor shower door did not lock. Must have been some issue previously as lock on top of shoer rail so 6 inch gap so water on floor after shower & smell from shower room as assume damp from this issue. Staff & everything else fine

The hotel is lovely and very attractive on the inside. The outside is a little less than breathtaking and it’s on a side alley. With many European older properties there are stairs everywhere. This hotel does have a lift, however, in order to get into the front door you have to go up a set of stairs. There is no staff available to help With luggage, this made it difficult with large bags and my elderly mother.

Stylish vintage hotel in central location was ok for 3 nights. No fault of theirs, but massive construction site between nearby train station and hotel makes for rocky walking so the steep flight of stairs upon entering the hotel feels like the last straw. But staff are super nice. Unfortunately the bathroom smelled horrible, like poor venting. We asked and they did something to improve it but it was temporary. The windows open and the street is pretty quiet so it was workable but not ideal. Breakfast was good and room was large. Slim twin beds together were comfortable.

Clean room but the last two days they didn’t give me clean towels or clean my room.
I liked that the mattress was firm and the sheets were laundered, not permanent press. The water in the shower was hot, which I loved. The hotel is located in a place where if u aren’t looking for it, u would walk on by. There were lots of restaurants near by and walking distance to shops and a market that had everything.

The room we stayed #112 had a strong sewage smell coming from the bathroom. Even though we placed the sign requesting cleaning, no one ever came to clean the room. On the positive side, the bed was comfortable, and both the bed linens and towels were of very good quality.

Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful! The property conditions were poor. One of the bedside plugs was broken, the bathroom door handle fell off, and there was a large crack shower stall. The staff arranged to have these fixed within a day. There is a lot of walking downhill to the duoro river meaning lots of uphill coming back to the hotel.

1. First room given the tv was not working - and was thankfully moved to another room.
2. Second room - extremely noisy throughout from noise from the street. No soundproofing of any sort.
3. Powercut in at 5/6am - no emergency lights anywhere, especially on stairs, no staffs to inform or communicate whats going on. And when staff did turn up - did not provide any information. We had a 8am tour booked for that day so could not shower, no breakfast. Telephones in room not working too due to no power. The Hotel should at the very least have an emergency generator and emergency lighting.
4. Some of the staff could have been more friendly - they seemed not happy or really did not want to be doing their jobs.
5. Rooms are quite dated and oddly shaped and designed - e,g: power sockets not in convenient places.

Loved this place. It had so much character and was like stepping back in time except with modern amenities. My room had a balcony with view of the lovely garden and the Clerigos Tower. Air conditioned (Porto was hot). Bed was comfortable. Modern bathroom with luxurious bathsheets. Breakfast buffet was definitely worth it with many options including an espresso machine. The woman who checked me in was very helpful and friendly. The rest of the staff was nice but a little aloof - not a big deal. It's not a good place for people with mobility issues because you have a flight of stairs before you get to reception and elevator level. And noone helps you with your luggage. Also, unless you hire luxury transport, you'll get dropped a half block away (Uber). The location is great. Get a paper map. Google and Apple maps are terrible. From here I walked everywhere. There's a wonderful authentic home cooking restaurant just across the cobblestone from the hotel. Restaurants and shopping all around.

The hotel is in a great location for exploring the city. The staff were attentive and friendly although we were questioned before heading into breakfast and several checks were made to ensure we’d booked and paid. It seemed a little unnecessary and no apology was made that we were made to feel like we were trying to sneak in! The hotel hadn’t seen the messages I had sent prior to arrival so check in took a little while. When I first entered the room, straight away I could see the curtain hanging from the rail, I reported it in the morning and an attempt was made to put it back up but it was still allowing a lot of light into the room. Otherwise the bedroom was very comfortable. The eco bin system needs labelling! And the shower could do with a good clean, it’s very dirty in the corners and around the door.

Avoid the hotel, it's not worth the price.

Horrible hotel. The AC was not working for 2 nights that we stayed. The hairdryer was broken and there was no Iron. Upon requesting 5 times we were told that somebody had stolen the only 1 iron they had in the whole hotel. The reception desk is also not 24 hours.

I brought the wrong keys for my padlock and was unable to get into my suitcase, however the staff were amazing and came to my rescue for which I was really grateful for as a solo traveller. The hotel is very well located to places of interest, such as Chapel of souls, Duoro river, Bolhao market. There is a small bar area and courtyard. Overall, the hotel is beautifully styled.

This is advertised as a 4-star hotel. However this hotel was a grave disappointment, in many ways a lower standard than 3-star hotels I've used. I will be contacting the Portuguese Tourist Board to see when they last inspected the property.

Biggest issue was insufficient members of staff working at any one time, especially at Reception, and managing the breakfast. One of the receptionists even admitted to me at one point that the management need to employ more staff.

The room we were initially given was OK apart from a very dirty shower. But within an hour, water was leaking from inside the top of the wardrobe, wetting our clothes. The water was leaking through a light fixture which potentially could have been very unsafe. Alerted Reception staff (on a Friday evening) but she told me she was the only staff member working at that time so she couldn't some to see it! So I had to email photos and video so that she could forward them to her manager (off-site). We were moved to the only vacant room which I was told was a similar \"Superior Twin\", but actually *much* smaller. Also the floor was very uneven such that the level of the beds' head was lower than that of the feet! I get the impression this room is not used much - a last resort. Never got reply to email or offered compensation.

Breakfast was very disappointing. Many days we were missing items, e.g. eggs, orange juice, milk. Sometimes fresh fruit crawling with flies. Understaffed, so often no clean tables to sit at.

Historic, charming renovated hotel conveniently located a couple of blocks away from Clérigos and the Lello bookstore. Plenty of restaurants and pubs around, and safe area. For an extra, there is a quite decent all you can eat breakfast buffet.
Although my room faced a pedestrian street it was not so noisy at night. The room was small but offered decent comfort except for the bed with a thin foam mattress on top of another quite high and firm. The bathroom was minuscule and the shower doors offered a big challenge for overweight, pregnant, and older bathers.

Hotel is a good location. Like an old palace. Nice garden and old design. Some floor wood are lose and you feel when you step over it.
Big issue for me was the room is pretty cold and there was no way to set it in the heat option. When I complained to the front desk they informed me that they had turned the central unit to the cool mode, as summer is coming. So they gave us an extra duvet and said for us to turn the ac off . I felt very bad about it.

Charming hotel in great location. We had a beautiful room facing the garden. It was quiet, clean & well maintained. Comfortable mattress and pillows. We should have listen to negative reviews regarding the breakfast but ended up purchasing breakfast package. Bad mistake as there was no food & no clean cutlery or plates. I stayed 3 nights in this hotel. When I first checked in, they gave me a room in the basement - one level under the main level. When I went to go check the room, I saw that there was rainwater from outside that had flooded from underneath the door into the room. There were flood bags that had already been placed on the ground to try to soak up the rainwater so they were already aware of the issue. The fact that they still assigned me this room in that condition really bothered me. The room also had a very strong mold and mildew smell. I went to reception to let them know what I saw and to change my room but they told me they couldn't change my room until the next day. When I asked if someone could come clean up the excess rainwater on the floor, she said \"No, not until the morning\" and offered me a towel to clean it myself.
I was appalled.
The shower floor was also dirty and there are gaps between the windows and the side walls so you can hear everything going on in your neighbours rooms.
After the first night, they changed my room to the main floor and that was much better. The hotel is in a good location.
I wrote an email and followed up several times with the hotel manager regarding my first nights' stay but was ignored. Customer service at this hotel is horrible.

An attractive and stylish older hotel with a friendly feel. A very comfortable and easy stay. The hotel is in a convenient and quiet location, with easy access to R. das Flores and metro.

We paid for a superior double based on the description of city views and additional storage. We had a room looking at a block of flats and 5 coathangers. We were then told that it was a generic description and couldnt change our room. Otherwise all was very nice
