Overall experience was great. Some issues with road noise due to overly loud cars.
Dan in bathroom was very dusty and at times blew dust round the bathroom. Overall though very clean and comfortable.

Loved the architecture, and the fact that it was built in the first few years of 1900. The staff was exceptional. Breakfast was included and it was excellent. The gal taking care of the food was very friendly. The nights were warm and later we found that we could have asked for a fan. We just thoroughly enjoyed our stay and your beautiful city.

With this hotel, you’re paying for convenience—15 min from anything in Gamla Stan; 15 min from anything in the museum district. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. That’s where the nice things end about this stay. I want to be clear that the things that need fixing are the responsibility of management and not the employees, who go above and beyond. But this hotel is charming in the common spaces, while the rooms are rundown. We booked 3 rooms; 2 of them had issues with sewage smells, 1 had a broken toilet, 1 had a problem with gnats and what appeared to be baby spiders. The shower is maybe 2ft X 4ft? Extremely narrow—and the tile has mold and mildew spots, as well as grout that is coming up or just missing in some places. The beds are comfortable, but the rooms are in desperate need of paint. Be advised you are on the corner of 2 very busy streets, so even with the windows closed, it’s very loud. The coffee machine was broken for 50% of our stay. And for guests who are differently abled or elderly: there is no elevator and this place is most definitely not wheelchair friendly. You pay for a nice hotel, but in the end, end up with a rundown-former-gem that is in desperate need of management to spend some money on room renovations.

Location, transportation, and dining options

The location was fabulous! It was across the street from the harbor and the walking path. There was a multitude of restaurants from which to choose to dine as well. The lady staffing the front desk recommended a nice restaurant a couple blocks away that served traditional fare. The entry was inconspicuous so we actually entered a restaurant first but were directed to the right location by a group of friendly people in the bar. The balcony in our room faced a courtyard that had limited parking spots. We could also see a small view of the harbor from the balcony. There is a small sitting room with a balcony that faces the waterfront. It’s on the same floor as the room in which we stayed and it’s a nice place to read. The breakfast they served was delicious. There is no elevator but the clerk offered to assist with luggage. The street in front provides transportation of many types including a bus to the cruise pier. It’s about a 5-10 minute walk following a blue line to make one’s way back to a ship from where the bus stops.

Hotel Esplanade is a unique hotel. It is wonderfully “dated” with character and comfort. We stayed in a very nice and spacious suite with a harbor view. As we stayed for 5 nights, an improvement would be a dresser to unpack and store clothing more easily. The hotel has a fantastic, friendly and helpful staff. We especially appreciated Joanna at the front desk. The breakfast was quite nice and well taken care of. Great location makes it very highly recommended in every way.

We loved staying at the Esplanade. The charm and character of the entire building was incredible. From the delicious breakfast spread each day to the relaxing sitting room upstairs to the outdoor balconies - we couldn’t get enough. We had split our trip between two different hotels and in the end were wishing we had stayed with the Esplanade for the entire time! Staff were all helpful and friendly. Will absolutely be back!

The hotel has a very relaxed and homely feeling to it with wonderful staff. The bed was comfortable and good showering facilities. Coffee and tea available all day in the downstairs lounge. Breakfast very good with homemade bread. Situated opposite some of the boat trip berths and in easy walking distance of most of Stockholm's tourist attractions.

Exceptional hotel- showcasing the absolute best of Art Deco design. The whole place is a treat - beautiful architecture and furniture throughout. We loved how historical and authentic it is.
We stayed in the gorgeous Room 10, with French balcony overlooking the harbour, which is both very spacious but also cosy, because it’s almost circular! Lovely comfy sofas, very tasteful blue and gold decor.
Staff were incredibly helpful and very welcoming. Breakfast is really lovely. Many thanks!

The Esplanade is in an older, charming building. The hotel was located, I believe, only on the first two floors of the building, which has a lot of charm and character. I didn't feel the lack of an elevator because our room was on the 2nd floor but this could be a problem for some. If people need the modern amenities, this isn't the place for them but the location was fantastic (across from the water) and you could feel the history of the place. The breakfast and available coffee/tea on the main floor were very nice. It is very easy walking distance to the old town Gamla Stan and many of the museums and other places of interest so really an excellent location for a stay in Stockholm.

Old world charm

It’s an old hotel but that is part of its charm. It is very clean and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The location is superb. Asking distance to the Vasa, Abba, National Museum, the Palace, the Nordic Museum. There’s a small public balcony facing the harbor that is a great spot to people watch. Lobby is very small but again, it’s an older style of hotel which is a nice change from the fancier newer hotels.

Extremely disappointing stay, felt like a scam. Peer hotels in the same street are way superior for the same price.

Unfortunately, it did not meet my expectations for $400 per night. The hotel is very old, and this is evident in the outdated facilities and design. The fact that there is no elevator was not mentioned anywhere in the listing, which made it inconvenient to carry luggage to our room.

With only around 30 rooms it felt like a small/ low cost hotel. There was only one employee available in the afternoon and night. This limited the assistance we could receive and made the service feel inadequate.

There was no official bar, and the one employee available had to make our drinks, which felt unprofessional. Additionally, there was no room service at all, which was very disappointing.

The wifi connection in the room was terrible, making it difficult to stay connected, and there was no air conditioning, which made our stay uncomfortable, especially during the warmer nights.

We paid $400 per night, and for the price, it felt like a scam. Compared to peer hotels right beside them, such as the Diplomat Hotel, which offer far superior amenities and services at the same price, this was a complete outrage. We stayed in the Diplomat Hotel for a couple of nights for the same price, and it's way superior than Esplanade Hotel (no point of comparison). The price is completely unjustified for what they offer. Terrible experience, I would actually like a refund.

Perfect location for seeing all the major sights on foot or by boat. Surprisingly quiet. Free Sauna included as well as breakfast which made it excellent value for money.

It was built in the early 1900 & has retained that look & feel. There was no air conditioning in our room, but as thus is Stockholm was not an issue. We loved the quirky, individual feel of this hotel so dont be put off by its 2 star rating

This hotel is a bit of a legend with Stockholmers. Art nouveu and twentieth century modern collide. I wouldnt want this changed. However, when I arrived I found there was no lift to my level. If i had known this, i would have booked next door. I think it only fair to alert prospective guests that could be a considerable inconvenience to some. However staff were quick to take up /down luggage. If you can manage atairs - then enjoy the old fasioned luxury of thexEsplanade

The hotel is older which I love and the staff are all wonderful - especially Carina (very helpful and a wonderful host for the hotel). Only issues is the hotel does not have parking and I unfortunately got three tickets on the side street so learn the parking rules. Otherwise love the hotel, tea/latte machine, and living area where you can watch the boats go by.

Excellent location hotel with pleasant staff and great breakfast. Reasonably large, old-fashioned (in a nice, quirky way) rooms - ours had a lovely shared balcony with a view over the courtyard and harbour. It would have been very nice to have a kettle in the room (even if one could nip downstairs to get coffee or tea if required). Overall the styling of the hotel felt homely, but some of the furniture (like the bed and cupboard) could be updated for a more luxurious feel. We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel and hope to be back sometime soon!

A beautiful gem in the heart of Stockholm

We were met with a warm welcome and beautiful surroundings. It is a small hotel of only 34 rooms but it has such character. The rooms are clean and simple with high ceilings and big windows. It felt like staing in a stately home. Couldn't recomend it more.

I've stayed here a few times now and will again. Great location (I walked everywhere I needed to be from the hotel), lovely breakfast, nice staff. I had a recently refurbished room which has been nicely done. Nice toiletries. The rooms are small, but I'm only in them to sleep. If you book a single room, it really is a single room, but I'm ok with that.

Very nice hotel in the center of the city. Easy to get anywhere, parking is difficult but expected due to location. Staff is very friendly. The standard rooms are very standard and pretty small. Bathrooms where clearly not originally expected in the room. We managed to have 2 checked bags, 2 carry on bags, and 2 backpacks and still be able to not feel completely trapped. We would stay again but definitely get a larger room.

staff - all excellent, pleasant and very helpful;
area in Stockholm was fabulous - proximity to everything we wanted to see and had time to visit was excellent and as advertised;
the room was somewhat attenuated, the shower did not work, and the bathroom was VERY small - the room did not look as updated, \"new\" and attractive as the pictures on line.

This is a beautiful hotel in Stockholm. It is convenient to everything - the museums, the public transportation, the harbor, Gamla Stan. It is a very old building, so no elevator, and none of the extras you expect in a newer property. But it is clean, the staff if helpful and friendly. The breakfast buffet was plentiful and well laid out. We loved it here and we would stay again.

Perfect Stay for us in Stockholm!

Hotel Esplanade was the perfect place to stay for us. It was quiet, yet close to all of the attractions, provided excellent, knowledgable service, and an absolutely fantastic breakfast! We love that you have a cappuccino machine, as well as other coffees offered. The scrambled eggs and other breakfast items were the best on our journey! And we loved being able to open our windows w/o screens, and enjoy the view of the harbor and bicyclists.

Rummet luktade instängt och gammalt, och det var mycket damm på taklamporna. Inredningen kändes också gammal och fåtöljerna fläckiga. Personalen var däremot väldigt trevliga men totalt blev vi ganska besvikna.
