Lee- Anne, Anjuli and Nisha made the entire four day stay truly memorable. They offered incredible service and were extremely kind and helpful. We loved the location, just out of the way of Old Town but close enough to all the sights by bus (right outside the hotel). We especially enjoyed the dinner menu as it catered perfectly to vegetarians with a great selection of vegan meals as well. Our room had a lovely view and we had a wonderful experience.

Perched on a hillside with striking, castle-like Victorian red sandstone architecture, the Braid Hills Hotel offers a historic stay with the massive perk of free onsite parking and incredibly convenient city access via a bus stop directly outside. While the clean sleeping area feels dated and lacked air conditioning (we stayed during an unexpected hot spell), the room was kept tolerable thanks to an open window and a provided desk fan, and it was balanced by a beautifully renovated, modern bathroom. The friendly staff and a great dinner experience at the 1886 Restaurant especially the dessert. Just keep in mind that there are no lifts, so navigating the stairs with heavy luggage requires some effort, making for a solid and characterful overall experience.

I liked the restaurant/bar area with lovely views over Edinburgh. Free parking is great and a great bust service to most places. A nice walk into the centre and The Castle. 20 mins walk to Morningside/Bruntsfield where there are lovely places to eat, have coffee/cocktails.
Downside are the rooms, which are very tired and in need of renovation. I believe this is going to happen.

Staff were friendly, helpful and attentive, lovely breakfast with lots of choice. Comfortable bed with lovely views. Perfectly located for buses into the city (about 20 mins away). Local independent shops worth a visit too.

The room was spotless but badly in need of the refurbishment the hotel is currently undergoing.

Accessible rooms are available, but no lift.

The welcome at reception was lukewarm. No lift and up 3 flights of stairs is not good with luggage at 68 years old. The water pressure which was reported was insufficient to fill a sink. Restaurant was over priced. The one plus was the young tall Barman with dark hair couldn’t have been more helpful.

We stayed at Braid Hills Hotel for the first 3 nights of our honeymoon, and had a fantastic stay! Staff were lovely and very accommodating.

Location was a bit far from downtown, but easy enough to get everywhere using the bus, and there was a bus stop right out front. Food in the restaurant was good but a little pricey. Hotel and rooms were clean and comfortable.

Beautiful views, excellent food and really lovely staff. After checking in, I ordered food from the restaurant staff. The gentleman who took my order (his name may have been Nigel, his hair was in a ponytail), was so pleasant and his smile was genuine, something that in turn made me smile, not easy after a 30 hour working day.

The room was also lovely with views towards Edinburgh and I hadn’t booked anything fancy. In the morning, the buffet breakfast was great with lots of fresh food being brought out by some more lovely staff.

I’ve never left a review before so I hope it means something to someone reading this. If I have to stay in Edinburgh again, I’ll be hoping I can get a room here.

The hotel is in a lovely building, but the decor in our room was odd and dated - it needed a bit of tlc and updating in our opinion. Lovely views of the city and beyond. We wish the blinds/curtains had been black out, as it got quite light in the morning. The big light in our room flickered a lot, so we couldn’t use it. Free parking was great. The room was cleaned each day and had basic amenities - kettle with tea and coffee, ironing board and a safe in the wardrobe.

Freshly cooked breakfast with self service. Items such as Haggis, Eggs and so on refreshed or renewed constantly and reasonably quickly. A good variety. Parking is easy and they even have EV charge points. Staff are very helpful and polite. The room was clean and made up daily.

On arrival, the check in agent was friendly and helpful, allowing us early check in and advising us on the best transport options to reach the Consulate in the city centre.

The room itself was clean and clearly part of the hotel that has been modernised, with new tiling in the bathroom.
The view across the Edinburgh skyline, including the castle and churches, was excellent and a real highlight.
However, after a whole day in the city we returned to the hotel. At around 10pm. Overwhelmed by the smell of guests eating disgusting McDonald’s in the guest lobby. We headed straight to our room, where we discovered that there was no hot water in the room.
Breakfast the following morning was served in the restaurant managed by Jenny, who ran the service very well. The buffet selection was excellent, and I particularly enjoyed the Scottish touches such as haggis and potato scones. The only small disappointment was the absence of mushrooms, which would have completed the breakfast offering.
Overall, my impression is that while parts of the hotel have been nicely modernised, the underlying infrastructure appears to be struggling, which significantly affected our stay

The \"Braids\" has been my favourite Edinburgh hotel for many years. Sadly, she's now a bit of a faded glory. The decor is outdated and paintwork, carpets etc are getting shabby. The staff were polite but disinterested and the quality of the food is barely average. Breakfast ends at 09.00 - I arrived at 08.50 when there were some tired leftovers but no tea or orange juice. I'll probably give the old girl another chance for auld lang syne but couldn't recommend her to others.

It was a huge disappointment that our room was in a different building more like the servants quarters than the actual hotel. The furniture was chipped and the wallpaper pealing. Was really sad that I paid so much for one night to be placed in this tiny room. The beds where comfortable though. The big plus was the delicious breakfast and staff friendliness.

For the money we paid the room was excellent. We had a lovely view of the park with a corner window which was Beautiful.
The room was lovey and clean and we had tea coffee facilities, fresh towels and shampoo and shower gels.
The breakfast was delicious for the money too.
We would definitely revisit this hotel for the money we paid.
The bus stop to Edinburgh city centre was right outside the hotel down some steps and ran very frequently.
It only took 15 minutes to princess street and you could get to the Royal mile near the castle and there 10 minutes walk. Really good location and 100 value for money.

We've stayed here several times and the staff are always friendly and the food very good. It's in a great location with easy access to buses going to the centre, plus there's ample parking. Rooms vary - this time we booked two nights in a Deluxe which had a lovely view and spacious bathroom. The decor isn't perhaps what you would expect in such a grand Scottish building but the glitzy wallpaper and large silver horsehead bedside lamps might go as the hotel is currently being refurbished. For an Edinburgh stay in low season, it's very good value.

First the negatives:
This hotel sorely needs some tlc in the general fabric of the place although on first glance public areas are warm and welcoming. Unfortunately our bedroom was akin to Rapunzels tower in that we had been put in a room - supposedly an upgrade - which had the ensuite in a turret meaning that it was cold due to the exceptionally high ceiling despite the small towel rail hiked up as high as we could turn it. The bed was very firm but the pillows were hard and lumpy. Best thing about the room was the great view.
We had a meal on the Friday night in the restaurant which was very good and reasonably priced but the buffet breakfast on both days of our stay was poor in that it was lukewarm at best and many items in the separate bain maries were sitting in grease, especially the eggs. We arrived down at just after 7am on our second morning (service starts at 7) and would have expected all the items to be hot and fresh but they were neither.
On the positive side, the staff were all warm and friendly in their approach and the hotel is a short walk to an excellent bus service into the city. It was also in a good location for our direction of travel and plenty of parking which is free.
We used to stay here previously and had hoped that under new management things would have improved but sadly it hasn't. If you are looking for somewhere just to stay for a very short time, you may think it's ok but certainly not for more than a couple of nights.

The room in general was tired and needs updating, initially I was put 4 flights up in a very small room but when I asked to be moved they found me a much better room so why not fill that first? Lovely staff throughout hotel. Dinner on rhe Friday was lovely and a good Christmas menu deal. Room was on the 3rd floor and there was no lift whixh was an issue as we has my 74 year old mother with us and noone offered to help take bags to the room whilst we ensured my mum was manahing the stairs.

The room wad tired but had everything we needed and it was clean.

Breakfast had a good range of options when they were available. Both morning's we attended there were numerous items that had run out and was not replenished, we were down for breakfast with over an hour left to go.

Overall it was a good stay and ideally placed for a day in Edinburgh.

The bedroom is tired needs TLC. Room could have been cleaner the wall paper in the bathroom management should decide if it is appropriate in this climate. Staff excellent. Evening meal and breakfast excellent. Outside needs attention as some of the decking is requiring maintenance. Parking good. Staff knowledgeable of surrounding area. When you first enter the property it looks good but as I said some parts need TLC this includes the parts of the building you see from the bedroom window.

Unfortunately, cleanliness was the main issue during my stay. On arrival, I noticed visible dust on the carpet edges and corners, smeared marks on the desk/window ledge, and a musty smell in the room. and the extractor fan seemed ineffective. Bed linens had a light odour; I recognise the building is older, but housekeeping standards and post-clean inspections should still be consistent. For future guests, I would recommend more thorough room checks before handover, quicker replenishment of amenities and towels, and clearer ownership when issues are reported. As it stands, the cleanliness level did not meet a reasonable standard and affected rest and comfort.

I had a disappointing stay at Braid Hills Hotel. From check-in onwards, staff interactions felt rushed and unwelcoming.which set a poor tone for the stay. Breakfast was also underwhelming: limited choice, slow replenishment, and little variety on hot items. The combination of indifferent service and a sparse breakfast fell well below expectations for this price point. Need improve training on customer care, and expand breakfast options.

Comfy room in a very British hotel- full of character and charm! Great location, friendly staff, and a fantastic restaurant. An added bonus is the very sweet old cat who roams the halls and sleeps on the sofa!
