Air con doesn’t work and they didn’t tell us before hand, just when we raised it with them.

Maid came in the room on our first night despite their being a do not disturb sign on. Told her politely to “go away”. She came back 30 minutes later, apologised after being told again to “go away” but took the room key out of the electric point.

Raised this issue with front desk who offered a free alcoholic drink to my pregnant wife. Politely declined but hey ho, offered a breakfast instead.

The next morning, after a long night watching England lose to Scotland, the maid came in around 8:30am, again with the sign outside.

Complaint made but told we can get a discount off our next stay which will almost certainly not be at Mercure. Unprofessional responses, condescending replies, overall pooooor.

The bathroom door stuck and I couldn't get out- it was a broken runner.
In the morning a vent had a piercing noise coming out of it from 7 am for at least half an hour.
There was also a pair of pants hanging in the bush out side our window.

Pros: Relativity modern decor, polite staff, good breakfast options ( cooked,continental, cereal, juices and coffee), clean, ok location for fit and healthy. Discount offered for parking. Eco ethos with towels, toiletries etc.Beds mid soft matress. Fridge, safe in room.

Cons: parking is 10 minute walk so bare in mind if travelling with heavy cases. Or if you have any disabilities.
Rooms are cold, but do have small electric radiators in room to help, reception and bar area to hot, pillows really soft not to my personal taste. Got woken up by chamber maid at 8am in the morning dispite having a do not disturb sign being on my door.
Small Tv bad quality.

Top tips: request room away from elevators as we found them to noisy.
Book directly via accor hotel website for accuarte hotel information, i booked via a
3rd party and found half the reasons i booked this hotel where in fact incorrect such as distance to castle, main attractions and parking situation.

Advertised with on site parking, which i needed as i has muktiple bags no car park, phones the hotel to see where im suppose to park and it was half a mile away, i had ti walk a mile back and to with bags, if i had children, a disabled person or elderly it would not be suitable, false advertising, wont stay again

Heating not working in rooms so they were absolutely freezing, wasn't told this at check in, rang front desk twice but nobody answered, went down to reception to find staff playing on their mobile phones rather than answering my call, was given a fan heater for my room but I couldn't leave this on overnight as it smelled like a fire hazard. Cooked breakfast the next day was only just warm and when we told the guy on reception whilst checking out he basically said it was nothing to do with him. We won't be staying here again.

Staff very helpful, good location central enough but not too noisy or busy. Only slight criticism the bed was extremely hard and I didn’t get the best night sleep and sadly there was much staff could do to help other than give us an extra duvet to sleep on, which was a shame, otherwise we had a pleasant stay.

I actually NEVER got to stay as my sister was rushed into hospital and is still in hospital now… when my enquired about changing my booking which was only for the one night to attend a concert on the city I was flatly refused… the money I’m not overly concerned about, it was their utter reluctance to simply chant the date whereas I had no issue paying any extra charges which would inevitably occur… I now intend to publish this to all my friends across the vast network of U.K. ARMED VETERANS NETWORK… as I feel it’s an appalling lack of empathy and customer service.

Hotel didn't take cash- something we were not aware of before. This policy is discriminatory, particularly to overseas tourists who have plenty of G.B.P currently and their bank cards charge foreign exchange fees. Could not even get a drink at the bar using the Kings legal currency.

The 'premier' (or privilege) room only had a double bed. For a executive/premier or privilege room one would expect a bigger (i.e king size) bed.

The heating system was not working it was very cold January in Scotland. However when I raised this, it was immediately rectified by very quick provision of a plug in heater for the room.

Did not have breakfast so cannot comment on that.

Shower/bathroom fine & hot water ample.

It was definitely cold in the room and throughout the hotel. We decided to leave after the first night due to the ice age. We were refunded for the unused nights. The staff was very friendly and attentive. We were offered a heater, but it wasn't powerful enough to heat our room. It was maybe 14°C with the heater on.

Very clean property and room. Early check in and late check out. Very accommodating to our itinerary.
Smart TV in room also was great to watch after a long day of walking and getting caught in the rain.
Didn’t eat or drink at property but the staff was very pleasant and we really enjoyed our stay. Thanks again.

The air conditioning/ heating is broken, in January, in Edinburgh, in every single room. And they’ve run out of electric heaters. They don’t tell you when you check in in the hopes you’ll be ok with it. Had to rebook in a leonardo and get a refund- did f want to pay £120 for a freezing cold room.

Overall, the stay was nice and the hotel is in a good location, around a 15-minute walk to the town centre. However, we were misinformed about the room we had booked. We were told it was a Privilege Room, but on arrival we were given a disabled-access room with a very different layout to what was shown in the pictures, which was disappointing. We raised this during our stay, but unfortunately nothing was done to resolve it. Aside from this issue, the stay itself was pleasant.

We were put into a room with disabled facilities which was not what we booked and told we could move to a room in the basement but that was smelly so kept disabled room. After first night we woke up to our bedroom carpet being wet. They said we had done it from our showers but said it wasn’t so had to move rooms again.

Our stay at this hotel was very nice an had a lot of good accommodations. It was also in a nice location that was easy walking distance to all the attractions. We were a little surprised to have a room in the very lower level, below ground level, but it was quite and comfortable. The shower was always warm and room was clean. The room cleaning services were also very great and they cleaned our room well everyday. There were just little things that could have been updated or maybe a little outdated, which is why we didn’t rate ir 5 stars, but overall is was a comfortable and nice place to stay and we would stay again, however next time booking an above ground room.

So I didn’t want to write this but it’s been 3 weeks and no one from the hotel has reached out and I really hope this doesn’t happen to anyone else.
A staff member let a random male guest into my room on the first night, without knocking or announcing themselves.
( I had the do not disturb and deadlock on). Lucky the man(guest) said oh sorry and left .
When I asked reception why and how he was let in they said “ I used my staff key as the guest told me 207 was his room number and his key wasn’t working” I stated we have all forgotten room numbers, you should always double check. And it wasn’t working because it wasn’t his room it was mine. He did a little laugh.. maybe he thought I was kidding?
I asked to move rooms as I was pretty upset at this point but was met with confusion and was asked “ so what’s the reason?” which was really frustrating, I felt bad thinking that I was overreacting but I just didn’t feel safe in that room or comfortable leaving my stuff in there when I was out. Which I said.
I had prepaid so if I left I wouldn’t get a refund. I was there for 3 days no one contacted me. I followed up multiple times asking to talk to a manger to make sure it doesn’t happen to someone else. I gave my mobile & email. Nothing.
Location it’s abit far away from the centre. Edinburgh is a gorgeous city but this experience was in the back of my mind. No one acknowledged a mistake or apologised which made me feel stupid. Saddly I wouldn’t ever stay again.

We had a quick check in the reception staff in fact all the staff from dining room staff to the cook cleaners etc were all extremely mannerly and friendly. Room was very nice and was a really comfortable temperature. Fantastic shower with hot water at all times. Tea coffee making facilities water and biscuits. Couldn’t recommend this hotel enough and will definitely stay again when in Edinburgh.

Room temperature was awfully uncomfortable - the in room thermostat controls are disabled for guest use and require hotel staff to manage them remotely. I phoned the reception team in the night who responded to the request however every hour it would revert back to being incredibly hot and stuffy. I had to phone every hour throughout the night and we got no sleep. The air vents were also banging and rattling all night creating lots of noise. Not the stay we expected or wished for and certainly not for £200 per night!!

Haymarket is a peaceful part of Edinburgh and Gardner’s Crescent is a very quiet road. I mainly walked in and out of the city centre, which is done quite easily, but also used the tram, rail, and bus services with stops nearby. The staff were all very helpful. A particular shout out to Sakuba, Sophie, and Krish, and the rest of the breakfast crew who made every morning start well.

Unfortunately, my experience was marred by misleading information regarding onsite parking. The Expedia listing stated that the hotel had onsite parking with a height restriction, which clearly implied that parking was available at the property. However, upon arrival, I was informed that no onsite parking exists, and I had to make alternative arrangements at significant additional cost.

After a long drive from Kingston Upon Thames, this unexpected inconvenience added stress and disrupted the start of our holiday. Accurate information is essential when planning travel, and I would not have booked this hotel had I known the parking situation.

While the hotel itself was clean, the lack of transparency regarding amenities was disappointing. I hope the property ensures that third-party listings reflect accurate details to prevent similar issues for future guests. I have raised this as a complaint to Expedia.

The hotel was excellent. Comfortable. Clean. The staff was friendly and very accommodating. I had medication that needed refrigeration so they kept it for me and retrieved it for me every day so I could take my injection then returned it to the fridge.
The last night they placed my gel pack in the freezer so I would be able to travel with my medication. They were all so nice about the inconvenience. I was so appreciative. It is hard to travel with medications that require such restrictions but they made it so easy for me

We had issues with the air con, it kept going faulty and at one point it was at night, when needed the most... no answer at the front desk, room service etc.

It felt like no one cared at all and just blanked any contact from us.

One night stay to attend concert. Coming to Edinburgh by car so needed parking. The info via Hotels.com says low clearance onsite parking but also offsite. Email confirmation says only offsite and too late to change when that was received and wouldn’t have got refund. There isn’t any onsite and parking 10 or so min walk away which in torrential rain with luggage isn’t fun! However easy to park and discount code from hotel good. Easy to grab a bite to eat before heading off to concert and handy location. Nice room. Privilege room. Could do with coffee table - nothing to use when sitting on seats. Bed lovely size but too hard for us. Super bathroom tho.
