However, for certain areas, bus transit was closer, and worked out fine. And, areas for dining were within walking distance.

The owners of Menzies are very, very nice. Greeted us at the door and helped us carry our luggage up the very narrow, steep stairs. Location is pretty good. Lots of great neighborhood restaurants and shops. Very quiet and it felt quite safe. Close to the bus lines and easy to take a bus to the old town/castle area as well as Waverely Station. Negatives: The bathrooms and bedrooms are small. Shower was really small. We had a bedroom with 3 beds and it was a bit tight. Would stay again!

The owner should take the customer’s concerns seriously. It seemed from previous comments dated over a year nothing has been done to improve the situation. He needs to take into consideration what is not good for him, it also not good for others.

could fault nothing about the room for the price and location. would have paid extra to have had a cooked breakfast, (was ok if you like fruit for breakfast) car parking is tight and not sure how it would work if fully booked, (we had to get owner to move car to get ours out. just concerned if your car was blocked in by someone who was out for the day) I would stay here again however.

Room was clean and spacious. The private bathroom was on same floor next to bedroom and NOT in room but was clean though and had a bath, toilet and a small sink.Another sink was in the room.. Wifi quality in room was poor. Breakfast was a disappointing though with one type of individually wrapped processed cheese and one type of ham and cereals. Parking is inside private back yard with a gate so quite restricted with times to go in and out. Will have to agree with owner re times going in/out.But overall was a nice stay.

This was a lovely B&B. However, we were walking everywhere, and it was about a 15 minute walk into downtown Edinburgh. There was a learning curve when using the shower, but easily overcome! All in all, though, it was worth staying at Menzies.

The waitress was rude. My husband had gone out to move the car as it was parked in a place which was not allowed after 8.30am and I said I'd meet him at breakfast, so arrived at 8.20am. Breakfast was not due until 8.30 am so the waitress asked me to go back to my room, but as my husband had the only key , that was not possible, also I had recently had a knee operation so didn't want to go back up 2 flights of stairs, so waited in the breakfast room without starting, but the waitress was angry with me and told me off and said \"that's not even your table\". She made me feel most unwelcome,uncomfortable and like a naughty girl..The landlord was very pleasant and helpful about parking and the accommodation was clean, warm , comfortable and the facilities were good for the price.The breakfast was continental, not cooked.

Staff member was very friendly and welcoming upon arrival. Our room was spacious, clean and had a small sink/mirror unit, wardrobe and dressing table which was more than we were expecting. Bed was comfortable and there were two extra blankets in the wardrobe which was a nice touch. There was a bathroom shared by the floor however it was very clean and small soaps were provided for each guest which was handy.
I had an early start and didn't try the breakfast myself however my boyfriend found it a little disappointing (didn't taste very fresh) and would have liked a hot-food option.
On our last night at Menzies a fire alarm went off at 4am on the bottom floor. Although the alarms on our floor/in our rooms were silent, we went downstairs and couldn't find any staff members nor did any staff go upstairs after the fire alarm (~15 minutes) to let people know the situation.

The hotel met all of our expectations for an inexpensive guesthouse. The rooms are small but confortable. Our room was quite and we had no trouble falling asleep. Breakfast was creeps, cereals, nuts,yogurts, and cold cuts. It was more than enough for us.
The service at this hotel is what really set it apart. It was amazing service. The owners helped us with every need, and greeted us at the stairs for breakfast every morning. If I ever return to Edinburgh I will stay here again.

Easy to walk to everything if your a walker, and very nice area. Park is very close and walking through it will bring you right into shopping areas and then leads to the royal mile. Or you can walk directly there on the streets. You can't always pick who is in the other rooms but staff always handled it nicely.

We got a reasonable price for booking pretty last minute. The hotel had free breakfast and parking witch is a big plus. The room wasn't what was expected. One big room with 5 beds. Centrally located add on bathroom in the room. Shower was very small. The one worker there was kind of unfriendly but, I think it was more of a language barrier. The place is outdated and could have been cleaner. Not filthy at all but definitely not the cleanest. Also there was no fridge in the room at all. If you are staying somewhere for multiple nights it's kind of ridiculous to not have at least a mini fridge.

We stayed 4 nights at Menzies Guest house and had a lovely time. The owner was very nice, though not overly chatty, and the location of the guest house was fine (about 20 minutes walk from the old town). The house itself was beautiful and well-kept. Breakfast was not traditional, but the change was refreshing and we much enjoyed the selection of dried fruits etc. Our room was nice and the bed very comfortable. The shower was a bit temperamental, but nothing that would keep us from staying here again. Overall this was good value.

Spent 3 nights here with my wife and 11 year old son for a half term mini break. Checked in at 2:30 pm without problem, the owner was friendly and helpful. ' En suite' consisted of a shower cubicle with toilet and tiny washbasin situated off the main room but this was adequate for our stay. The shower required careful adjustment to get hot water but once it got to the right temperature it stayed hot. The vegetarian breakfast ( we're carnivores ! ) was excellent and a welcome change from the usual ' full cooked ' . For the price we paid we got a good deal. A previous reviewer complained about the smell of curry - don't be put off by this, we smelt it once in the morning and it this was in the downstairs hallway - it was clearly being cooked at the time and the smell had disappeared by the evening.

Don't look under the bed! No hoovering done there. No plugs in the sink and it was clogged with something a bit dodgy. Guest house smelt of curry. Breakfast a bit variable. Very friendly accommodating family. Very dated decor. Nice walk into town but a good mile and a half to the centre. Didn't realise that we would have to share a bathroom. Water not always that hot.
