Like home but this time very disappointed

We stay here regularly however we were put in a room where there was a light outside that kept the room like daylight at night. Disappointing stay and even after my husband complained at 2am, management did not offer us any compensation / option.
In saying that, we will always stay here but not in that room.

The wifi in the room was appalling - I even moved room and it was not better, and also poor in the public areas. Simple websites like the weather could not be accessed from the room and anyone wanting to conduct work, via Teams, could not do so from the room. The breakfast was ordinary. The restaurant staff are sweet and efficient. The plumbing in shower and basin also need attention- the shower was either scalding or if one moved it a millimetre, cool.

The Beach Hotel Review

I had a three night business trip stay at The Beach Hotel which was very pleasant and enjoyable.
Room was exceptionally clean, and serviced daily.
Nice toiletries in the bathroom.
Mini Bar Fridge in the room was great - as often this is not available in a hotel room.
Lovely view of the sea from my room - got to see the dolphins swimming out at sea early morning.
Room service was great.
Staff were friendly and very helpful - especially Thulani who willingly offered to assist me with my heavy bag - without even requesting him to help me.
Staff at the breakfast room were also very warm and friendly.
Would definitely recommend to others. Competitively priced and affordable.

My only complaint - the cupboard in my room had a broken shelf, so there was no place to put clothes etc. But that was a minor issue.

I will definitely return.

A highly recommeded stay

We had an awesome stay at the Beach hotel. The staff were friendly helpful and efficient. The room was spacious and neat and had everything we needed. The only thing that could be improved on was the milk supply....3 milks for 2 people and no biscuits for that late night coffee which was provided the first night. All in all a very good experience.

Hotel is in a good location and the Ginger Restaurant is great. Front desk staff were helpful and attentive. Hotel was let down in the following ways.
1. The bedroom was old, tired and dated.
2. Terrace bar was unclean, food waste on floor and made the whole hotel feel a bit run down.
3. Breakfast was ok but the staff were inattentive and too busy chatting amongst themselves.
On arrival we were greeted with a sign for HIV testing in one of the conference rooms. Not a great welcome.

Some of the photographs on Hotels.com are misleading; for example the pool area looks nothing like the pictures.

Awesome service, much appreciated.

HI, I had an awesome stay. Short but all my expectations were met. I stayed here before and will stay here again. The staff were friendly and Greaterman was outstanding as usual.
As there was a walk for cancer underway all the roads were closed, but one of the security ladies went on a mission to get me to a point where I could have access to my uber. This was absolutely awesome.

the hotel is well situated, but was not impressed to walk past staff having a cigarette from the side car park to the main reception. the whole entry needs review, both outside and inside. the upholstery in public areas needs to be re-done as well.
on the whole the staff were pleasant and efficient and the breakfast was most enjoyable.
therefore, my opinion is that some window dressing would be in order.

Awful, Awful place to stay - would never recommend

The hotel is AWFUL!!! I would never recommend it to anyone. They ran out of towels, so we had to use bath mats to shower. They didn’t have pool towels, but said you HAD to use them to use the pool. They only give you 1 room key, so if you decide to do anything separate, it is very inconvenient. The staff is not helpful. Breakfast was an average buffet, at best. The rooms are fine, but don’t leave the AC on. It will start spraying water. They then act like it is your problem, and that you should have know better than to leave it on while you slept. I would honestly have asked for a refund, but we used a free night to stay at the hotel. I would say the service is worse than a 2 star hotel, but claim they are a 4 star hotel. They also make it a nucance to park. Arrived multiple times where the parking guard wouldn’t open the gate.

THE ONLY THING I COULD FAULT WAS THE FACT THAT THE BED IN OUR ROOM WAS NOT UP TO THE STANDARD FOR A BED IN A 4 STAR HOTEL.
IT WAS A LITTLE SAGGY AND NOT FIRM ENOUGH. ALSO TO LOW FOR MY LIKING. BEACH HOTEL SHOULD CONSIDER UP GRADING THE BEDS. OTHERWISE THE EXPERIENCE WAS VERY GOOD.

High Five to Greatermans

We were very happy with the trip except for the fact that we were stuck in the courtyard after booking via Hotels.com which was a pity but hey, it was comfortable and clean. We would recommend better pillows as they were very uncomfortable.. even our friends who were with us commented on them.
I would like to give a high five to \"Greatermans\".. his personality was awesome. A new little jersey would be welcome by him, I'm sure.
The Ginger restaurant was fantastic.. made our trip. Overall, pity there's no live entertainment anywhere close by so the stay was a bit boring for us in our middle years. Thank you!

Service was friendly and helpful with smiles all round. rooms were good size and well kept. Concierge was very friendly. There was always parking for my car. The only complaints I have are about the fine dining restaurant which was absolute trash. Food was pathetic. There was a large selection of different foods to pick for breakfast. The only complaint I have about the breakfast was the fruit, it was like rubber. Awful. The local area was nice during the day but around Xmas time it is full of lawless taxi drivers and drunk fools. Also be careful about going out at night on your own. I was sat inside the Blue Waters Cafe having dinner when whilst watching a female waitress get mugged right outside the restaurant that she worked in.

This was our second stay at the hotel. We previously stayed in 2014 and this experience was very similar to previously. The hotel has a fantastic location, is friendly and has a relaxed atmosphere. The staff are very courteous and pleasant and i would definitely recommend this to family and friends.

pleasant hotel in an old fashioned way

The Beach Hotel has had new owners since my previous visit 12 months ago. The interior of the hotel has benefitted from some re-decoration and 'felt' clean and fresh throughout. The piano has been retained and the lounge area is unchanged.,though no evening entertainment was apparent during my stay. .The verandah with its meals and drinks service remains an attractive feature. The restaurant dinner buffet was slightly less in range and volume,but still represented good value . The hotel is two storeys only and whilst there is no lift for guests the stairs are not too onerous and the ever dependable porter is on hand to assist with luggage. All in all a very pleasant time was spent in and around the hotel..

Great to relax and unwind

We've stayed at the Beach Hotel a number of times over the years, and the fact that we continue to return is testament to how we rate this hotel.
The staff are always helpful and attentive, the breakfast is as good as any we've had in SA, and if you don't want to go out at night there are excellent options available internally.
As suggested by the name you only have to cross the road to enjoy the beach and promenade, you are next door to the Casino, shops and a number of restaurants, so a hire car may not be required.
Our visits to PE always require a visit to Addo, in our view the best location in SA to see Elephants, so you may require a hire car after all.
We always stay in a sea facing room, if you can we'd highly recommend the \"luxury\" rooms, which are still reasonably priced but will make you think you're in a 5+* hotel.

Location and facilities are amazing - including standard room, Ginger restaurant and deck restaurant (where we chose to have our bubbly, buffet breakfast.
We would have liked to be issued with a gown for accessing the pool. SUGGESTION: maybe issued on request.
A MINOR: We only had one sachet of filter coffee (plus other instant coffee and tees) so on our way out for the evening we requested additional filter coffee coffee. We were assured this would be sorted before we returned. Upon return nothing had happened. However it did kick in aided by a suitable prompt.
Another annoying minor was that the pool was locked when we wanted to swim at about 8am. Upon request, the door to outside was unlocked but when we got to the pool, the pool gate was still padlocked. TWO ABSOLUTELY MINOR COMPLAINTS AND ONE SUGGESTION that would have converted our evaluation to a 5 out of 5.

Very comfortable hotel in a good position.

My wife and I only stayed one night be were very impressed with the hotel and, particularly, by the staff who were all extremely friendly and helpful. Our room was better than we had expected and was very large and well furnished. We had dinner at the Ginger restaurant which was of a good standard, as was breakfast.

Old, drab and outdated....

I was very disappointed by how hold and dated the hotel is. We specifically booked the executive suite as I thought this would give the most comfort and best view. Not so....some furniture in the room was damaged in places and needed a serious revamp. The sea view was spoiled by being set back so far. Your view was partial between the rest of the hotel and another building. I am not sure if we were on top of the restaurant but the food smells were horrible and overpowering. Was not worth the rate charged. Such a shame as the hotel staff were lovely. Wont stay again....sorry to say....compared to its neighbours the hotel is a drab and unloved old girl with carpets in need of replacement and chipped walls in need of redecorating too.

Went back to Beach Hotel after two prior stays.
Booked a Suite with sea view; room was large and airy but almost no sea view.
Outside patio was dirty , soggy furniture.
One of lamps did not work and the toilet drain leaked, leaving a puddle around the toilet base. Reported this on our first morning; it would be attended to, but never was.
Asked reception at 23:00 for some more coffee sachets; we were told 'that dept had closed'
Security is inferior: the outer door has a simple mortice lock. On the morning we checked out my wife put a chiffon blouse on top of the packed clothes in her opened suitcase. We went to breakfast, got back to room at abt 10:15, finished packing and checked out. We then stayed at my sister-in-law's in P.E. Upon unpacking my wife discovered the chiffon blouse had disappeared. We checked and double-checked, it was obvious the blouse had been taken whilst we were having breakfast.
We reported this to the hotel by phone, but nobody called back . I called again, and was told that the blouse had not been found in the room by the cleaning staff. After explaining again that it had obviously been stolen, they reluctantly agreed to check the CCTV images, and later said these revealed that nobody had entered the room from 09:00 to 10:00! But we had only returned at 10:15!
I said I should like to speak to the manager, but he never did call back.

Nice Hotel Across the Street From the Beach

Unable to understand all the negative reviews about this hotel. I had an executive suite on the ground floor with a patio overlooking the pool and the ocean. Very large room with a couple of sitting areas and everything I could want. The room was a little dated, but everything was in great shape and very comfortable. Room was very clean and the bathroom was sparkling. Free Wi-Fi, refrigerator in room, flat screen tv, sofa, chairs, desk. Overall great room. I would definitely stay there again.

The hotel was run down and felt dated. Our \"exectutive\" room was not what you would expect from a 4 star hotel. We checked out and went to the Radisson Blu just down the road which was much nicer

Large, comfortable, well equipped suite. Overall service and experience was positive. However the bar was disappointing. Staff gave us one menu to order drinks, then when we came to order they gave us another where the prices for same drinks were double; no explanation. Then waited 15 mins as a bartender tried to figure out how to make a martini; ended up leaving without a drink. On the plus side we had reservations for dinner at Ginger restaurant which is attached to the hotel and fantastic.

Only stayed 1night this time its a lovely place to stay as it was a major holiday time the area was very busy, but as it was a stay over purely as a break from driving from Jo, burg it wasn't a problem . The Ginger restaurant had a problem with the extraction system so could not cook much bit disappointed but I am sure as workforce gets back to normal that will be sorted. Staff all helpful breakfast was good lots of options

Short stay at The Beach Hotel

The hotel was nicely located opposite one of the beaches in Port Elizabeth and next to the Broadwalk shopping complex. The room was a spacious executive suite overlooking the beach, that pleasant enough although some fittings in the bathroom needed replacing / updating. Staff were courteous and friendly and the breakfast was varied and more than adequate. Overall the hotel was good value and would consider staying there again.
