I arrived and self checked in, my room couldn’t have been smaller, the en suite door wouldn’t fully open as it hit the bed. The toilet wouldn’t flush and I was asked to try harder twice. After this failed (I’ve been flushing toilets for over 60 years) I was offered another room the next day. I found hairs on the bed in that room and I had to draw the curtains because there was a man on scaffolding outside painting my window frame inches from me. The sink was too small to fill the kettle and the shower was small, a larger person would have struggled with it. The ground floor smelt of cooking fish on entry. Cheap but not cheerfull.

Best stay at we have had in brighton

We are a stone grow away from the Brighton pier and the beach is so close to the hotel, we booked in to the hotel and we had a message from the owner a couple of days before we were supposed to book in saying that they have upgraded a room for free. We are in such a lovely cosy room. We have a big TV that has great sound and picture on it, lots of room to move around and we were surprised that we have a refrigerator in the room, no hotels have that so we were shocked that we had a refrigerator. We have gone away on our honeymoon and this has just been the best experience we have ever had. I will be staying here again 100% next year in the summer. If I was you, if you want somewhere to stay, that’s cheap cosy and so close to the beach. I would recommend staying here the owner is amazing and helpful I cannot express how lovely the housekeeping is. He was so lovely every time that we passed him he would be smiling and greeting us in the morning. You cannot hear any foot traffic at all through the building. I love the fact that the bathroom is ensuite and we have a shower we have shampoo and conditioner with soap already supplied. I could not believe the little complimentary refreshment on the side as we walked into the room. We have stayed here for one week and we have loved it. It’s been the best break away from London that we could have asked for the bed is the most comfiest bed we’ve ever slept on. I don’t think my husband has slept in a better bed than this.

Amazing hotel, would recommend for short stays

We loved this Guest House so much. Jeremy is always available by text/email should you need any help. Its very close to the beach front, maybe 5/10 mins walk to the beach and pier too, and not far from the shops either. We loved the little complimentary boxes in the rooms too, and we were offered a bit of room service half way through our stay too, to top things up, which was a lovely touch on top too!

Our only negative was the shower being so small and cramped, and we kept getting suctioned to the curtain while showering, but in a narrow building, there's not a lot of space for bigger showers!

Lovely room in a great location. Brilliant customer service and a really easy check in/out procedure. The only downside is that the cold tap on the shower wasn’t working properly and the lights above the vanity mirror weren’t working. Apart from those two minors things, everything else was brilliant.

Thank you to Jeremy for having a lovely property. I didn’t realize when I booked it was a basement suite, but once down the precarious staircase the room was MARVELOUS. A proper king sized bed (not the UK version) and wonderful treats and snacks, a most welcome surprise after a long drive!! I would absolutely stay here again!

Ideal stay for Brighton Beach

A lovely room that had a generous welcome pack and excellent communication from the staff via email. I was a little concerned that there was no staff on site but everything was thought of and there is a 24 hour mobile number. Also 2 minutes from the beach and less than 10 from the pier.

I had a lovely stay at Brighton Surf, I received very clear and precise self check in instructions as well as great information about the area as well as directions to the property. The owner Jeremy is very helpful, and I appreciated that he checked in with me to make sure everything was going well. The room was clean, I had a single which was quite small but I'm used to that from travelling through Europe. The guesthouse is located in a very convenient location, ten minutes from the pier and right across from the beach. You will find many good options for food nearby and even a laundromat if you need it. Very safe neighbourhood.

I enjoyed my stay in Brighton. The single room I stayed was functional even though it was less spacious. The bathroom was compact but the shower pressure was good which is very important for me. I slept well and really appreciate that there was a standing fan in the room which really helped cooling down the room. The neighborhood is quiet. There were a few building works happening along the street but it didn't deter my experience. I received all the guest emails from Jeremy. Although, I did send emails on two occasions but I haven't received any acknowledgement. It would have been nice to meet and interact with the staff/owners. Overall, it was a good stay. Definitely, will recommend the place and will return to Brighton on my next travel.

Hidden gem!

What a lovely hidden gem! My husband and I were both pleasantly surprised with the customer service. The host is very thorough and goes above and beyond to make your stay seamless and noteworthy. We especially liked the welcome box full of treats and fresh fruit to fuel our midnight snacking. The host provided parking permits that were a far better deal than finding and paying for space on your own. Conveniently located for walking to and from all the must sees of Brighton. Our only complaint and I’m sorry to have one at all is this room is on the top floor and it’s very hot at night making it difficult to sleep if you run warm. There are two fans, but even with them both on high and the window open my husband and I found it too hot. A window unit would be preferable. We would stay again despite the warm room and recommend to our friends.

Great base for a trip to Brighton

Went to Brighton with my 2 daughters for a few days away. Brighton Surf was perfectly located for the sea front, pier and shopping. With parking permits available from the hotel we found parking in the surrounding streets relatively easily (just a little driving around at first.)
The room was comfortable and well appointed with plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits. The superking bed was super comfortable.
Due to covid there was no housekeeping service which was OK but over 3 nights it was quite difficult to wash mugs in the tiny sink of the compact bathroom so it might have been good to have extra cups supplied for our stay.
Regardless, it was a great base for our few days away and we enjoyed our tine very much.
Our host was very good at communicating in the lead up to our stay and the checking in and out process was seamless.

We stayed during the heatwave and found the room very hot at night even though we used the fan but I guess this is the same with all the accommodation in Brighton which does not have AC.

My wife and I had a quick getaway weekend in Brighton from Boston. Brighton Surf Guest House was the perfect place for us. A cozy room where the bed was almost too comfortable. We didn't want to leave! The place is literally seconds from the beach and close to a ton of little restaurants, pubs, and breweries. Jeremy, the owner, was super communicative and accommodating for check-in and check-out times. We loved Brighton and we will definitely stay at Brighton Surf when we come back!

It was not a 4 star hôtel and you will have a more luxurious stay at any premier inn.

It was clean and our holidays were fun which made up for the poor breakfast, old tiny bathroom and stains on the sheets. We had to set up the tv ourselves as not even the free view worked.

We had a lovely holiday but will not stay in this hotel again and would not recommend it.

Large bedroom with fridge,tea making facilities,cereal,milk,biscuits,chocolate bars provided The bathroom was huge with toiletries and towels.ours was the purple downstairs bedroom (9) and would not hesitate to stay here again. You can get parking permits from landlord,there was always a space outside,but we took our bikes as Brighton is flat with great cycle paths. Location is good and everything is there for your stay.

Awesome stay!

Excellent stay! Early check in could not be accommodated, but I was able to leave my luggage at noon (and check in at 2 pm). I never actually met the host/owner, as it was self check-in, but he was very responsive to text. Loved all the little treats in the room, like the cereal, water and chocolate bars. Tiny bathroom, but not surprising for a guesthouse like this. Would definitely stay again!

Nice little guest house in a superb area. Self check in and check out works well. It is a Victorian period building so some lack of comfort is unavoidable (small staircase, no lift) but the room was big and clean and it was enough for us for a couple of days.

Parking is the cheapest in Brighton if you don't mind a walk, 5 mins Freshfield road, £5.70 for 24 hours. Walk out of hotel / drive turn right, left at lights, go straight accross road, turn right , next to bingo car park and school.
Hotel room 10 , very spacious, very comfy, cleaned everyday. Chocolate and biscuits very nice touch.
Jacuzzi, Don't commit the golden rule of adding bubbles before you turn it on !
Bed super comfortable.
Cereals, bowl and cutlery in room along with fridge.
Massive TV.
Only thing I need to let you know is that it is down the steps to the basement, so not sure if you are elderly? This is only for room 10 the Jacuzzi room.
I will return no doubt.
Fantastic for the price, try the old bank for food 5 mins walk, nice ribs.
Brighton 10 mins walk, 2 mins to the beach and 4 or 5 to pier.

Room was clean and tidy... But we were on the third floor and it was very hot! With the window open, it was noisy (seagulls, as much as we love them, are not welcome when they constantly make noise 24/7). With the fan on and the window closed, it was too hot!

If noise and or heat don't bother you, go for it? It's a shame as it's otherwise a nice place!

The property is perfectly situated. Easy walk to the centre but far enough away from the noise of the bars. Ease of check-in and check-out. Liked the addition of juice boxes, mini cheddars and chocolate bars replaced everyday.

Great location by the beach and close to city centre. Kind and lovely service and effortless self check-in. But be prepared for a shower booth the size of a hamster cage which I imagine was designed by a dwarves who wanted revenge on all the bigger people who made fun of them.

Romantic cosy a warm one night getaway

Once booked we received the full confirmation explaining self check in and any other important information. We arrived at our room number 8 on the third floor and were so impressed. The room is so cosy and warm and the bed was massive! The tray of little biscuits and mini cheddars plus water and chocolate in the fridge was a brilliant touch. You feel the owner actually cares about their guests experience rather than all about profit I just wish there were more people like this. The hotel itself is about a 10 to 15 minute walk to the centre of Brighton which was an easy walk. The shower was a tad small but it done the job. Overall we were very very impressed and would definitely recommend.

Great contact via email from Jeremy, with all instructions for access. Our room was available early, which was an unexpected plus. Ollie, the staff member present was most gracious and even jumped in to help tote our bags upstairs! A large fridge in the room, stocked with milk, juices, and treats, along with cereal, teas, and coffee is a delightful surprise, too. Proximity to the seaside is also a win. Well done... when next in Brighton, we will stay again!

This is a delightful property and Jeremy was super-helpful with the booking, directions and other local tips. I was organising the booking from Scotland for my niece travelling from Wales and it was such a pleasant surprise to be emailing with such a cheerful and friendly person, who had already thought of everything in the hotel information... and then sent through additional walking directions from the bus station. Thoughtfulness and kindness in communication was an unexpected bonus from an overnight stay in Brighton.

Nice quiet hotel, close to the beach

I was worried about this hotel after booking it as it is advertised with a room size of 3.5M (Superking Deluxe (Jacuzzi bath)) however as it turned out the room was very spacious (over 40M) and very good value for money.

The room was clean, quiet and comfortable.

The Jacuzzi was great.

Don't expect to park outside the hotel but I found a reliable spot only a few minutes walk away. And don't worry, walking around the area is safe and easy - even late at night.

I enjoyed my stay. The room had all the amenities you need. It was very clean, and very quiet, so I got a good nights sleep.
My only criticism is that the en-suite is too small. The shower did not give you enough room to bend down easily, and the toilet was so jammed in you couldn't sit on it squarely. I think the owners should re-think this area.

Great Guest House - Highly recommended.

Friendly and exellent service and replies from the proprietor. The room was a bit small but comfortable, except it had poor ventilation, that should be alright during normal weather conditions but we were experiencing very hot days. Location is just great and the facilities were clean and amenities just as advertized. Would highly recommend this guest house to friends and family.

Wonderful Stay, Fantastic Staff and Management.

We booked the Brighton Surf Hotel for 4 days and enjoyed a fantastic room, facilities and a truly warm and caring staff and management. Our room was very spacious with a large bed, stocked fridge, tea, coffee and hot chocolate amenities and other treats that went above and beyond our expectations. We flew from Toronto to Brighton for a wedding and asked if we could check in earlier than the scheduled time. We were delighted to be immediately accommodated by Jeremy (Owner) and to meet our room steward upon arrival who couldn't do enough for us. His continued thoughtfulness and genuine concern throughout is a credit to the Brighton Surf and would be an asset to any 5* hotel. We had arrived without my suitcase (Westjet had failed to pack it on our flight from Canada) and although with the wedding in three days and an assurance by Westjet that they would deliver it at least a day before the 'big day' it actually arrived redundantly 2 days later on the evening after the wedding. With this threatening to overshadow the trip Jeremy took it upon himself to liase with Westjet and myself and monitor the situation from start to finish, ensuring the case did arrive safely and to follow up with emails and phone calls and deliver a customer aftercare we could only dream of while freeing us up to purchase new clothes and take the stress out of the situation. The hotel is perfectly placed and a stone's throw from the beach-front. We will absolutely book this gem again on our next visit.

Stay again...yes please.

A wonderful a stay. Loved the room with its fridge and food for us to snack on. Be advised that parking is tough but with a parking permit left for us at the cost of ten pound sterling, the owners make things much easier. You actually don't need to use the car as it's so easy to walk to everything. I would definitely stay again.

I have changed my travel plan two times but the manager,Jeremy, has tried various ways to accommodate my needs. He even helped me book a taxi on my last day of stay. The complimentary set is very generous. Though I communicated with Jeremey mainly through email, he managed to reply almost instantly.

Quiet, charming and close to everything

It's our second time staying at Brighton Surf. The first time, just a night. We liked it so much we came back a year later and stayed nine nights. Our favourite room, Number 9. Very spacious with a king bed. Very clean, close to everything. Staff were great. We'd definitely go back.

Sweet spot for Brighton getaway

Extremely warm welcome, helpful owner with local guides, and extremely comfortable bed. The only small issue is the fan provided didn't really do anything, but all in all a great spot if you're visiting for a quick weekend in Brighton.

Perfect stay

We were in Brighton for a The Great Escape and after living in Brighton until 5 years ago, we knew that Kemptown would be a great base. Neither of us had ever heard of Brighton Surf before but we're so glad that we picked it in the end. Day one in Brighton we'd treated ourselves to lunch at Chilli Pickle on New Road (AMAZING and a must if you're a fan of Indian food!) and the walk along the seafront the seafront to Jeremy's place was just perfect. It's was a gorgeous afternoon so we took our time dragging our bag along to check in. When we arrived we were greeted by the man himself and he couldn't have been more polite, he even carried our heavy bag (sorry Jeremy!) up the 3 flights of stairs to our room. We both loved the self service style that Brighton Surf has and honestly didn't miss having staff on site as we had everything that we needed. Including an absolutely HUGE bed! The rooms are very homely and I love the addition of the cereals, snacks, juice boxes and water. Our room was serviced everyday and the little extra replenished also (so cute) On our second to last day I received a message from Jeremy asking if we wanted a later check out - this was the icing on the cake! I can't recommend this place enough. If you're deliberating booking, don't. You won't find better value for money anywhere in Brighton!

I had a single which, as described, was small. However, Brighton Surf has used all the space incredibly efficiently and so you get everything you need for a short stay. Although there is no manned reception, the one time I needed assistant I rang the contact number and my problem was sorted very quickly and by a very friendly person. Considering how expensive some places are in Brighton, this is great value!

Can't fault it. Great communication from the owner setting out what to expect when you arrive. Located just a few minutes walk away from the town centre but far enough away to have a quiet night.
There's tea/coffee and other refreshments in the room and are replenished each day. The Room [No. 9] is really big, clean and beautifully presented. The super king size bed is very comfortable allowing me a wonderful night sleep. The usual Brighton parking challenge as with most places there, but the owner will arrange parking permits (payable at cost price). It took us about 5 minutes to find a suitable spot to park and was just a few minutes walk away on a busy Bank holiday weekend. Lovely place and we look forward to staying again.

Decent hotel close to the Mariner

Booked this hotel for my run in the Brighton Half Marathon. The room was compact but warm and tidy with plenty of facilities. The hotel was self service so you didn't have to check in with hotel staff which was a little unusual but my stay was absolutely fine.

Despite the snowy weather, we had a lovely stay. The room was comfortable and serviced regularly. Jeremy was a pleasure to communicate with. The area Kemptown is great. Far enough away from the main town's hustle and bustle but still with some life.

Such and easy process and good communication throughout. A great place for a quick overnight stay.
The only thing i didn't enjoy was the shower curtain, it was a small bathroom (which was fine) but i hate when the curtain sticks to your butt.

We loved the place and Jeremy couldn’t be more helpful. The bathroom in our room (2) was tiny but adequate. It was close enough to the town but also in a quiet street at night. We would certainly consider stopping here if we’re ever in Brighton again.

Nice hotel near to the beach and the city centre

We were given a free surprise upgrade to the hotel’s super king room as it was mine and my girlfriends birthdays. We were also left chocolates and fudge as surprise gifts. The rooms were cleaned and re stocked every day. Everything we needed was provided. The television was a large flat screen tv which was nice to watch just before bed. The bed was very large and comfortable. The hotel manager was extremely considerate. The hotel was perfectly placed- close to the beach and close to the city centre. Would recommend to a friend.
